Chef and wait staff were nice. Food was ok. This is not my normal hibachi spot so I may be bias.

We took our family who came to visit from out of town to eat here a couple of days ago. We placed our orders. The chef came out,cleaned out the teppenyaki grill,though oil over it and lit it up. He then squished a squirt bottle on one of us and it squirted a long string of thick yarn? on her. He then cooked our food and dished it out. No flair,flourish or show. We'd come with our out of town family for the showy performance of our food being cooked. He did not bring out enough food and had to cook extra shrimp again and left. The food. It was awful. Shrimp was tough and chewy and Oh So Salty. The chicken was Tasteless, dru and too salty. Veggies were limp. Needless to say I am never going to eat at this restaurant again. We've been going there for years and have always enjoyed the food and the experience and this past Wednesday was one big disappointment. read more

Food is good-typical hibachi and really good sushi. Service is "ok" because they often seem a bit understaffed so wait times can be tricky, especially if you're on a time crunch for lunch hour and such. A couple of the servers are a little rough around the edges but nothing to keep us from continuing to go there. It's a typical hibachi place so lots of fun and excitement for the whole family to enjoy! There is ample parking and it just so happens that it has been raining a downpour twice when we've gone and it's a ways from the car to the door so make sure you have your umbrella! read more

A group of us had lunch here recently and it was pretty good. The food is really good and portions are bigger than average. The interior is big enough to accommodate both large and small groups. There's a small bar inside. But it didn't really look like people sit there. Expansive menu with lots of options. Prices are reasonable. The only thing is that during lunch there is only 1 server. And it was busy. So it took a really long time to get anything. The server was friendly, just overwhelmed. I still will come back but will just expect to wait a bit for service. Went for lunch. Prices are high. The place is very run down. The fist table I set was dirty. Moved to another table. Not much to choose from. Had the steak and shrimp. Steak came cut up. Very tough. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because the food and cook were amazing and very sweet to our kids. Our server was AWFUL. Her name is Soon. She took 20 minutes to take our drink order, and almost just as long to bring our drinks. She tried to argue with my partner about what we ordered for our children (an adult plate. it was easier and cheaper to split one plate for them) . She was extremely rude about it and it rubbed me the wrong way. I'm VERY gracious with my servers as I've been in the industry for almost a decade, but she was absolutely ridiculous. We went in for lunch today after church. I had my mask on upon entry and my husband did not. He told the server he has asthma. They said it didn't matter he needed to have it on anyways. We left and went elsewhere. I support being safe and cautious (hence why my mask was on) but there is a state exemption for a reason and he fits the exemption. My husband highly recommends Tokyo for their Hibachi, might as well give it a try! Went here for lunch for the first time. They have a decent lunch crowd. We had the filet mignon and shrimp hibachi lunch. I thought that my experience was enjoyable! The rice was cooked al dente, complemented by their sauces and veggies. I also enjoyed how tender the steak was, but did not care for the shrimps despite their size. The reason that my review fell short of 4 stars is because of their sushi and sashimi. I got a tempura roll, and the rice was so thick I can't even taste the tempura. It also was not seasoned well. Sake sashimi still had some frozen spots-- nothing more offending in your mouth! If you're wanting hibachi, try Tokyo!! However, I don't recommend their sushi options. :) read more

I am a hibachi aficionado and have eaten at many hibachi restaurants around the country. Tokyo was by far my least favorite hibachi experience as all the flavors were just a little off. First, I ordered a pot of green tea which tasted watered down. When I told the server about it, he was nice enough to add more tea bags to the pot , but after it steeped, it was still watery. That leaves me to believe their tea bags are flavorless bags of tree leaves or something. The hibachi itself was just okay as it lacked seasoning. The food was not good at all. The teriyaki chicken tasted off. I've never had teriyaki chicken that tasted like that. Was not good. Shrimp was seared on only one side. Didn't even bother getting a sear on both sides of the other diner's steaks. Eggs were over cooked and so was the bottom of the rice pile because he just let it sit. Under seasoned and under sauced. Go to shogun or Panda Express for better Asian food. read more

Haven't been here in a while. The service was the best I've had in the city. Brought our 3 kids and they were treated like royalty. Food was great, a wasp landed in the hibachi in the middle of the onion volcano, and the chef killed it, swept all the cooked food and started over. I was SO disappointed in Tokyo. We were in the mood for Japanese and sushi and everyone told us to go to Tokyo and that it was the BEST in town...WRONG! Our service was awful. Our sushi was awful. Went in for Hibachi and some Sushi. I asked the server if they had Boston Rolls, the server said they did not. She then asked if I knew what was in the Boston Roll and I told her not worry about it as I proceeded to look for some other Sushi items. As she was walking off to fill our drink order she mumble to her self, loud enough for me to hear, "fine I won't help you (then mumbled something that resembled asshole). It is at this point myself and my co-worker decided to find another restaurant. I am not going to eat at a restaurant where the employees treat customers that way. Plus when my co-worker asked for a sweet tea and they did not have that, I know WOW no sweet tea at a restaurant in the south, the server said that they are Asian (seem a little racist?). Continues to be one of the best in the area. I saw another review complaining about how you have to wait for 8 to fill the hibachi table, but that's pretty standard practice anywhere you go for habachi. I have a family of 8 and we go for every birthday as well as just random lunchs. I'm never disappointed in the quality of food or the service provided. Small business, the owner, comes around to all the tables, gives the children lollipops, speaks to all of us by name, shares historical facts. Really fun, cute little place to be. read more

Sound - No sound, band brings own sound, bands every night. They could probably get fresher ingredients, the rolls were put together and presented nicely enough - but the craftsmanship and uniqueness of the great rolls just isn't there. Sushi Ballers living in Shreveport! I was passing through Shreveport and decided to visit a friend and get some food. I was craving for sushi so I hit up yelp to see what's good. Tokyo came up with good reviews so I checked out the menu and was like dam, Shreveport has some ballers living here for Tokyo to be charging those prices. I don't mind paying money for good food so I gave it a try and ordered a bunch of things to-go. I got the spicy tuna salad which was $12.95. Like really? $13 for a small pile of lettuce, cucumbers, and maybe $3 worth of tuna drenched in a vinegary spicy sauce? And when I mean drenched, I mean it was like lettuce drowning in a red pool of spicy vinegar. Lettuce and cucumbers were completely soggy and even though the tuna tasted fresh, the spicy vinegar dressing was just too overbearing. I also ordered the "Heart Attack" and "911" special rolls. Both were just meh. The Heart Attack roll consisted of spicy tuna, jalapeno, cream cheese, deep fried, mayo sauce & eel sauce. I like spicy foods, but I don't like it to mask the whole flavor of the dish. All I tasted from this was the jalapeno and cream cheese. The 911 roll consisted of spicy crab, cucumber, topped with tuna, jalapeños, spicy garlic, hot sauce, spicy mayo. This was a little better than the heart attack roll, but then again, the jalapeno takes over. This roll tasted better without the jalapeno. We also ordered an Octopus salad and a few normal rolls and it was just okay. Our bill came out to like $75 for a couple of mediocre salads and rolls. I'm not sure where all these yelpers had sushi, but I've had sushi from all kinds of places and I was disappointed here! I've got a few more sushi places to try still but Tokyo is pretty easily my favorite sushi place in town so far! I went here for lunch after trying to go on saturday for lunch at which point I found out they are not open on saturdays for lunch, still kinda bummed about that but oh well what can you do. It was fathers day today so the place filled up pretty quickly right when it opened. I knew it was bound to be a good place to eat when it opens at 12 and has a line waiting before they even start seating. Much better than crickets chirping... Lets see...where to start here. Tokyo sits on a sorta out of the way street and if you weren't going there and knew where you were going it's not really a place you are going to just randomly drive by and stop. With that said it's a great location, plenty of parking and it has a really cool fish pond out front with some water falls and the like. This makes me happy already because I place a good portion of whether I like a place based on things like location, the actual building, the decor etc. For some reason I think that if i'm going to go out to eat I'm spending my money on more than just food, I want to be entertained a little bit, I want to get an experience I can't get at home because after all I can probably cook most of the stuff i buy in restaurants. Anyways, what i'm saying is I like the place. On to the food.... I started with Miso soup and fried Gyoza. Pretty much the norm for me. Normally I wouldn't comment on Miso soup cause it's pretty simple but for some reason the Miso here is really good, fantastic flavor. It doesn't have seaweed in it like most places which I thought was odd but the flavor of the broth was awesome so I really didn't care. The fried Gyoza was also great... by far the best i've had in town and probably anywhere for that matter, it was good stuff. After that I got the LSU roll. For whatever reason I had a craving for cream cheese in my roll today and was having trouble finding one with cream cheese that wasn't deep fried. The LSU roll was a special for the day and I almost didn't see it until I looked over to the sushi bar, normally I would hope the wait staff would point that kind of thing out but no harm no foul. The roll had a spicy tuna inside with cream cheese and something else topped with white tuna and shrimp with some spicy mayo something or other and hot sauce. It definately had a kick to it and I was glad I got it. Other than that everything else was perfectly fine. My waitress was patient and did a great job recomending a few rolls that i'm sure i'll try next time i'm back. I have a feeling that Tokyo is probably a pretty cool place to come on a friday or saturday evening before you go out so i'll have to come back then too. read more

This was some of the best hibachi I've ever had and the hibachi chefs are very entertaining. People who write poor reviews about this place must not understand that if you want decent food you're going to have to spend a little more. read more

Miso soup tasted like a new appliance smells the first time you heat it without washing. We sent it back to the kitchen. The manager did nothing. The sushi had too much rice and the decor was dated. And not in a cute way. I guess the locals have good memories from here 30 years ago. I say try Hana instead. read more
