I'm always surprised at some of the places that I find great sushi. We were walking around at an outdoor shopping center that on this day had several booths set up like a farmers market with tons of items to go through. My wife was craving a coffee and of all the vendors outside that day, none had coffee. Told my wife to jump into this Sushiko restaurant and ask for coffee to go. She said they had coffee but would only serve it dine in. I was slightly put off at no coffee to go, but then I realized that was probably a good time for a break and meal before completing the shopping circuit. Turned out to be the best idea of the day, perhaps of the weekend. For some reason the general manager looked familiar to me, as if I've seen him around restaurants in Dallas. Heads up, the place isn't spaced for COVID distancing. Tables are about three feet from each other and they stack them in. Nice Japanese and Korean style menu. Probably the deal of the day was a $16 dinner bento box that was stacked high with short ribs and bulgogi (you get to pick two meats), side salad, soup, and choice of steamed or fried rice. I'm Hawaiian so always prefer the steamed rice. On weekends you have to order dinner all day, just a side note. The lunch I believe was $12 and not sure of the portions. But the dinner portions as consistent across the board as the family of four with a baby next to us received similar plates covering the run of bulgogi and spicy chicken. I could tell they thoroughly enjoyed it and confirmed by them requesting to speak to the GM and telling them as much so venture to say their grade also a 5-star. I was pleasantly surprised with the Nigiri sushi list most specifically the Ikura (salmon eggs) topped with quail egg. Was so impressed that I then ordered the Hamachi (yellow tail) to try. Wife also ordered their number one roll which as I recall was tempura shrimp, cream cheese, avocado, crab. The shrimp was very warm in the roll so could tell it was made fresh to order. Was flavorful in that tasteful way rather than just smothered in spicy mayo. There was definitely a touch of artistry with all of them. Fish I'd say was probably not premium level but just under...definitely better than medium grade. Staff super attentive and friendly and attended every request we made in short order, and with a nice smile. Definitely worth stopping in if you're running through Shreveport, I'd even say worth a special trip and you can do a lot of shopping to boot. Bill for the day came out to about $50 so definitely more than enough food. We had plenty left over to take home with us on the way back to Dallas where my Dad finished them off when we stopped by his place on the way home. read more

My spouse and I are foodies and eat out a lot traveling for work in different cities. This is without question one of the best restaurants we've ever been to. I'm stunned at how anyone could give this place a non 5 star. The sushi is excellent with tons of choices, the bento boxes were the best we've ever had, we came back with two clients a couple days later they thought the same thing. The portions are so big on the bento boxes it could easily feed two adults. Heck on the menu it says you get 4 pieces of sushi with the bento box and we got 5 and there was probably the equivalent of a 6 oz salmon filet in there. Everything we had both nights was a ten out of ten. Our servers name was Cara. She was very real, personable and just a happy person to be around. The atmosphere is amazing with the sushi station the people that do the bento box and then the full bar. If you read the reviews of some of these people they are delusional. Don't let anything stop you from trying this place for yourself because it's amazing on every level. The only issue with the place it was so good any other bento box I have the rest of my life will be a let down. I wish I could give 7 stars. read more

I also got the seafood udon. By the time the udon finally came, which was last, our waiter finally got my side garden salad and a cup of rice to me. The udon taste a little better then my rolls and squid salads. The udon has a weird taste from the baby mussel that they gave me more then other seafood. The udon was slightly salty. Spent the weekend at Margaritaville and walked over to Sushiko to eat lunch. They took our drink order at 2:54, I know because I texted my daughter a picture of the menu because it is one of our favorites places to eat, well it was anyhow. But after the extremely poor service we received we walked out and won't be back, along with anyone else I can tell to avoid them. They were not busy at all but took several minutes to take our drink orders and bring us menus. No big deal. So we get our drinks and menus and I send my daughter the pic teasin her where we were and we patiently waited to place our orders. About 6 minutes later the server who had just been standing there talking to her co workers came over to take our order at exactly 3:00 pm, then we proceeded to order off the lunch menu she said it was 3 pm and no longer available. I told her we had been setting there with our drinks waiting to order for several minutes. Her response was "sorry". I don't care about paying a few extra bucks for dinner prices if I had gotten there when it applied but we were clearly there during the time they serve lunch they just waited until exactly 3:00 to come to our table and take our order intentionally. Very tacky. Very unprofessional. Very desperate for a few extra bucks. Not a good look. read more

We found this location using Yelp. It was in the area so we decided to give it a try. It was a Saturday evening and the restaurant was mostly empty. The wait staff were huddled near a tv watching the soccer game. Our waitress came on over and I asked about the sunomono salad. She didn't know what it was. After some thought she said only one person had ordered it before. I asked if it had ponzu. She said yes. I ordered the salad. I asked if the Yaki udon had yakiniku sauce. She didn't know what that was but then said yes. I didn't feel confident and my gut told me to leave but we stayed. The drink menu didn't have prices. The waitress didn't know the prices either. She went to ask and said, "most of them are $8." I ordered the peach flavored sake. It was hot when it was brought to the table. I apologized and asked for it to be chilled. The waitress took the sake and returned with a large glass filled with ice and sake. She asked if I wanted a straw. By this time I am thinking we surely made a mistake. On her own the waitress took the glass way and went back to refill in the sake carafe. A short while later she returns to tell me that the yaki udon does not have yakiniku sauce. It has teriyaki sauce. I asked her to cancel the order. She made a long face and said it was already being cooked. I tried to get her understand but she kept saying, "it's already being cooked." That translates to me that o ordered so I must eat it. The sunomono salad had a spicy soy sauce with what I can only describe as having some tamarindo mixed in. It was too spicy for me to eat. The shrimp was placed on top with sesame seeds sprinkled. I didn't eat the salad. The yaki udon was brought out along with a salad with mayo dressing and some miso. I wasn't sure how to feel about the dressing. I didn't eat it. I didn't have time to try the soup because the food was delivered. The tuna sushi, unagi, and a Philly roll arrived shorty after the udon. The sushi was subpar. We thought the salmon in the Philly roll was expired. We've never seen salmon with a dark purplish ring on it. The tuna was flaky though it wasn't cooked. My husband didn't finish the sushi which I've never seen before. Overall it was a dismal experience from start to finish. Our instinct told us to leave and we didn't. We lowered our expectations and ate some of the food. The prices are higher than normal about $1-3 dollars more per roll. We paid nearly $80 for food we didn't enjoy eating and left over half of. This isn't a place for people who have had consistently good sushi. I would've excused the clueless waitress had the food been better. Won't return. I ordered the seaweed salad and I got a lot of it, it was delicious! Most sushi places add julienne cut cucumbers underneath the seaweed salad to make it look like a lot, but not this place. It was a nice size scoop of seaweed salad and delicious. For dinner, I ordered the octopus and salmon sashimi and it seemed fresh and cut to a nice size. I can't remember the name of the sushi roll I got but it was mixed with avocado, salmon and tuna and rolled perfectly with not too much rice. Not the best experience. Upon arrival we were met with attitude from the hostess as if our presence was an inconvenience to her day. I ordered pick up totaling 167.09. I ordered a multitude of rolls and nigiri. Everything is overly sauced the fried sweet shrimp head and tempura was put together with the raw nigiri which is the ultimate no no as hot/fried should not be included or next to cold raw items. As far as presentation it was the best it could be I guess for to-go. The flavors were unbalanced in every way and extremely salty and over sauced, if you have high blood pressure steer clear as their menu items will have you right in the arms of a stroke. I'd give the freshness a 5 out of 10 especially since the raw fish was hot after being included with the fried food and in the world of sushi that is deplorable. Ugh, please return to your former glory. Every time we dine here is out of convenience and hoping we could go back to the days of 10 years ago when this was the best sushi place, ever. Service and cleanliness has greatly improved, staff are fine. Location is still in need of serious upkeep and dated is no longer the correct word. Now as for the sushi. Its well, "meh". This visit we were served by two different sushi chefs, both of which had completely different skillsets and passion, which showed in the presentation and flavor. Sunshine roll was loaded with various fish but bordering on that "its barely fresh" line. Yummy Yummy roll was OK however nothing special (yet according to their menu is the #1 roll) and 007 Roll was decent however awfully similar to the cherry blossom roll. Same concerns aside, the menu has drastically shortened, old favorites gone and speaking of menu is absolutely rushed and not very inviting. Tons of spelling errors etc etc etc. I get it, its on the boardwalk, its "trendy" and likely attracts a certain clientele but please reconsider the basics as this location can be soooo much more than it currently is. read more
