I came here because I had a coupon. In the past I had done create your own bowls and it just felt basic and bland, even with the sauces. However I ordered the banh mi bowl with ramen and it was great! Loved how they tossed the chicken in a sauce and you got to choose another one too! It made the dish yummy! While visiting Denver for work the staff order lunch for us today and it was Tokyo Joe's. Asian food will forever be my go to regardless of what city I am in. So as a group decided to try Tokyo Joe's. after looking over the menu I felt the place had some potential. I liked that they have plenty of options especially for vegetarians and pescatarian, so I was in heaven. So, to start the food is subpar at best but I'm going to be honest I didn't set the bar too high. I order the build your own salmon bowl with brown rice, broccoli, zucchini, sesame seeds, spicy-aki and its edible, I probably wouldn't double back if I'm being truthful. It wasn't that it wasn't good just not... flavorful a little (A LOT) it was kind of on the bland side. The salmon was.... tasteless. and WELL a co-worker and I was debating if it was chicken from its appearance. The zucchini looked like cucumbers, like they might've been steamed. I don't know but I for sure picked over them. the broccoli was borderline raw. the sauce had no spice whatsoever! I don't know my colleagues seemed to have liked it but me on the other hand practically skipped lunch. First time ever eating Tokyo Joe's and I had a great experience simply due to great customer service, specifically with Cole at this location. I made a mistake of ordering online to the wrong location, but Cole was able to quickly call the other restaurant, get the order canceled and refunded, made me a new order and had me all taken care of within 10mins. I first tried Tokyo Joe's several years ago (pre-pandemic) when visiting Arvada. I liked it then and was looking forward to trying it again when I was back in Arvada. I wasn't disappointed - it was still good. We were ordering takeout for 4 adults. We had a white chicken bowl, a dark chicken bowl, a steak bowl and an order of California rolls. Each of the bowls was customized with each of our own preferences regarding rice, veggies, sauce, etc. The order was ready when promised (on-time) and all of the bowls were very good. I've been going to Tokyo Joes locations for 20 solid years and have been to pretty much all of their locations during my work travel around the state. This was my first visit to this location and probably the worst visit I've had anywhere. The place was virtually empty when I stopped in. The steak was cooked rare - I've never had it served like that before and asked them to throw it back on the grill -which they agreed to do. The tables were dirty, the floor under the table was filthy, the sauce and spice on the table were almost empty as were the juice dispensers. The floor in front of the drink dispensers was, you guessed it, filthy. There was plenty of staff and lots of cleaning that needed to be done and there was none of that going on. The young lady who took our order was patient with us and charged us correctly, however when we got our order, both meals we paid for weren't even close to what we ordered! We came back and explained to them the order wasn't made correctly...only for them to still get one of our bowls incorrect. I have never had any issues from this location at all. I also don't go to a Tokyo Joe's expecting the fanciness of some of the sushi restaurants downtown. It's great for what it is, quick and decent food for a decent price. I have ordered to-go from this location twice now and have been satisfied each time. The first time I built my own poke bowl and this last time I ordered a sushi roll and spring rolls which were all delicious and quick to come out. The food is decent..nothing special, but the price is right and they have good options. I would definitely avoid a low-cost poke/sushi place, but I've never had an issue here and I've eaten at various TJ's close to 50 times.
