I finally figured I'd search o line and found this spot. I called and the immediately received a text. Everything was communicated through text, including photos of the menu. You order the day before, and pick a time (it seems like they start around lunch), then pay through Cash App. We met our delivery person at 310 Daniel Webster Hwy Mall Entrance. Nashua, NH 03060, which is one of their drop off locations. It took me a bit to understand the process for ordering and pickup, but I couldn't be happier with the food. We can't wait to try some more items next time! Truly sooooo delicious!

I was contacted via text messaging by an automated attendant. I thought it was quite tedious at first, but I understood they wanted to be clear about what I wanted to order, and what they provide. It was quite expensive, but well worth it because the food was delicious with first class service. I felt like a princess. Keep up the good work guys! Never despise days of small beginnings. Thank you!

We arrived a little less than an hour before closing time but we were still happily served. Let me be clear, this is a Ugandan restaurant. Okay, moving on. Our food came out, steaming hot and fresh- nothing seemed like it was reheated (try eating reheated posho y'all). We stayed long after the restaurant was closed to finish our food which really gave me the real homey Ugandan vibes. There were also a bunch of Ugandan uncles in the corner just chatting it up the entire time which was fun. Also, there's a store with Ugandan products, raw frozen cassava/matooke, bitenge, and some other Ugandan staples like Royco, Blueband, Majaani, etc!

I can see from the reviews that some people are expecting a smooth assembly line operation like you might expect if you were eating at a cafeteria in Den Bosch in the Netherlands--which I've done. This ain't that. But bring your patience and adaptability and a smile and you'll be rewarded with a hearty country meal East African style. If you want anything spicy ask for it. In the 3rd world in my experience my Anglo looks meant they leave out the spiciness unless you ask otherwise. The vibe is like a Ugandan version of a British village pub full of locals socializing. If you want to meet every Ugandan expat in the Boston area, come on by. But while most of the people were Ugandan we obvious non-Ugandans were greeted with open arms. We asked them to just bring us dinner, and so they did. One interesting thing was the Indian influence--Uganda had had a large Indian community there until Idi Amin appropriated everything they had and kicked them out of the country. I guess some? many? have returned since Idi Amin was kicked out himself. So among the more obviously indigenous chicken stew and cooked plantains as a major starch was samosas and chapatis, much as you'd expect to find in an Indian restaurant. Portions were so big I got two and a half additional meals out of it. I've tried a lot of cuisines--I live in the SF Bay Area which is one of the most multicultural places on Earth--so for me this wasn't all that exotic. Ethiopian food is a lot moreso and a lot hotter, for example. So someone who's only mildly adventurous should do fine here. Actually Cajun cooking from Louisiana is more exotic, frankly. And hotter. And there's nothing on Karubu's menu like that Gulf Cajun fave "Bucket of Mud Bugs" (crawfish). Both my wife and our local friend who dined with us enjoyed our meal, and I look forward to returning on our next trip to Greater Boston. Interestingly both one of our Uber drivers and the night clerk at our hotel were Ugandan and familiar with Karibu and very pleased that we planned to dine there. A lot of the infrastructure people we deal with as we travel are really very interesting people if you talk with them and don't just treat them like they're invisible. And it can make your travels more interesting than just going somewhere and doing the standard tourist things.

Let me start by saying the food is delightful. While I am far from an expert consumer of this…read morecuisine, I have consistently enjoyed the Jollof rice, the fried plantains, the chicken gizzards, and their goat dishes. The portions are generous and the food is wonderfully spicy. The restaurant is very loud as they play music on a sizable PA system in a relatively small space. I would not recommend eating in for anyone with auditory sensory processing differences. That said, if you're going to eat here, pay cash or go somewhere else. In our last visit (October 2024), my credit card was triple billed for our meal. The staff told us that it was a problem with Square. Cool. I've dealt with Square. Square can be a pain, I get it. Sadly, that was the start of the problem, not its resolution. The receipt they sent me was a completely different order (literally nothing we ordered was on the receipt, the the receipt was for almost twice the cost of our meal). The staff said they'd fix it. Cool. We'll wait. However, after waiting 20 minutes or so for this to be resolved, the staff told us that they were unwilling to wait on hold any longer and that they would follow up the next day. I never got a call. Two days later, I called to follow up as the charges had only been partially reversed. When I called the number staff gave me for follow up, they told me my refund was processed. Looking at my credit card statement, it most definitely was not. They refunded a partial and seemingly random amount, leaving them still having overcharged me by more than $60. The staff person I spoke to, who assured me that they would be available on Monday, said they were too busy to talk and would call me back. They did not call me back. The staff person I have been in contact with has been consistently argumentative. I have consistently been made to feel that I am the problem and am an inconvenience for insisting on accurate, timely correction of the charges. I don't care how good the fried plantains are (and they're really good), they're not worth this much headache. I'll not be going back.

The space has a homey atmosphere with seating in the dining area and a takeout counter. After seeing their small grocery Mart next to Man Yee Express in the Heights, I decided to head to their small restaurant for takeout. I ordered the Banku & Fried Fish ($17 plus tax) and the owner asked me how spicy, referring to the sauce that comes with it. I was given the spicy sauce and the non spicy tomato sauce on the side. My food was ready to go in about 15 minutes. The boxed dinner had a dense balled cornmeal (slight salt flavor) served with fried croaker fish with bones with shredded onion, and pepper on the side and hot & mild sauces on the side. The hot flaky fish needed to be carefully deboned before enjoying. The sauces were great with my food and with the Banku, the dinner was filling to eat. I will keep Maddy's Food Hub on my list of places to stop for a fresh cooked African meal.

It looked dark from the outside, and they were doing a ton of decorating inside (for an apparent club night) that almost looked like construction from where we were looking. We went in and asked if they were takeout only, but they hesitantly offered us to dine in (no one else was seated). So we accepted and were sat near the front window where there was a loveseat and armchair near a table. It was a bit haphazard, but it worked. I ordered a modified rasta pasta with tofu and the friend got the butternut squash stew. The food was very good and they accommodated us pretty well when all was said and done. They have a good clientele. The ambiance and the service were also quite good. The highlight, of course, was the food. I am a fan of Ethiopian vegetable preparations. The injera was soft and spongy. The vegetables were hot, well seasoned and cooked to perfection. I couldn't get enough of the yellow peas and the lentils. The flavors were vibrant. The highlight for me was the whole fried tilapia. Lucky for him, my hometown is a food hub with several great options. We came to Habesha on a Sunday at 12:15ish, right at the time they opened. Our food didn't come out for about 45 minutes, but we received our veggie Sambusa, honey wine, and beer came out beforehand, giving us something to munch and drink in the meantime. Sambusa's are small, we split it, but wish we got two! The beef tibs were delicious! Definitely an option if you're not adventurous with your food. But I highly recommend getting the habesha special and beef tibs to get the full taste and flavor of this cuisine. The beef tibs fed us both, we felt very satisfied. My husband had a flight to catch so it was perfectly portioned, but our next visit to town will definitely include the habesha special AND tibs. Do yourself a favor and pop by. This is probably the best Ethiopian food I've had ever.
