Beef Tofu Soup with side dishes
    Canary H.

A fantastic soondubu restaurant, which I didn't expect would be so close to me! Located in Ontario, Tofu Chon is a fantastic Korean tofu restaurant, that gets quite filled during meal times. Parking is a cinch, but would be difficult during lunch and dinner hours. My fiancé and I arrived around 3 pm on a Thursday afternoon, and we were seated immediately. They have tablets at each table to make ordering easy. They mainly have combo meals (protein + a tofu soup), a few main meals, and drinks. They did not have any appetizers, so come hungry to finish actual plates! I had ordered their rice wine (makgeolli) and a combo: purple rice with beef tofu soup and galbi. It didn't take long for our rice wine to come out and we were ecstatic!! It's not often that many restaurants service their makgeolli with the proper drinking bowls. We drank our rice wine while enjoying their side dishes: beansprouts, kimchi, fish cake, cucumbers, and garlic green leaves. The kimchi was in the sweeter side which was great. Their garlic green leaves truly stood out though! Shortly after, our food came out. To my disappointment, we did not receive purple rice as ordered. Yet, when I started tasting their beef soup and galbi, I absolutely didn't mind that my order with very slightly wrong. Their food was amazing and truly was worth every bite. Galbi was very tender and marinated well. Their beef tofu soup was hearty and warm. It reminded me of a nice hug. We stayed a bit to finish our rice wine. By the time we were at the end of our bottle, it was a full house for the start of dinner. The staff here were quick to seat, very patient with every patron, and were very tidy with the tables. The restaurant itself was very comforting and clean. I am absolutely coming back when I crave more tofu soup!

This is more of a high 3.5-low 4 out of 5. Good! We came pretty late around 8:30pm and checked if they were still accepting customers, they were. Each table has an iPad set up to take orders which was perfect because we ordered very quickly after being seated. I liked their simple but varied menu, that is probably why our food came out relatively fast. Great. We were hungry. They shut off iPads around 8:52pm without notifying last call, just fyi. Vibes were homey. Space was a bit tight trying to squeeze past tables to get to our seat in the back corner, but it wasn't grimey just maybe not a location for large parties or lots of rowdy children. Banchan: bean sprouts, spinach, cabbage kimchi, fishcake, cucumber. These were decent. The fishcake, bean sprouts and spinach were simple but tasty. The cabbage kimchi had too much fish sauce. The cucumber still had a good crunch, lightly seasoned. We ordered the spicy marinated pork and seafood tofu soup combo along with the spicy cold noodles. Spicy marinated pork was so flavorful. Best dish of the night. The portion was pretty small though even for a combo order. Crisp of the raw onions, the marinade on the pork was perfect. Delicious with the purple rice that we selected as part of the combo. The seafood tofu soup was tasty as well, the seafood flavor was not too overpowering. There was 1 large shelled shrimp, a couple baby shrimps, and a few clams. Minimal but at least the flavor was good. Great offset to the cold noodles we ordered. The spicy cold noodles were just okay. We did not enjoy the slices of meat that came with it. We are very familiar with cold noodles and eat it often, the meat just did not taste good here. The noodles had a good chew, a bit too much gochugaru pepper flakes - we understand we ordered the spicy cold noodle but the pepper flakes here were more than necessary because then that was mainly what we tasted. Adding the vinegar (clear bottle) and mustard (yellow bottle) helped add some more flavor, we usually add it to our cold noodles. Overall this will probably be our go-to tofu soup/cold noodle spot if we find ourselves in Ontario, good options are pretty limited out there.

    Galbi Combo & Bibimbap Combo

I was really craving something hearty when my boyfriend picked me up from the airport, and this place happened to be nearby! It's a small shop, although you order from an iPad so it's all relatively quick. We ordered the bibimbap combo & galbi combo, which took a bit long to come out. The soups were delicious and hearty, a great taste after being stuck in the South all week. Salty, but went well with the side dishes. The bibimbap was average, but the galbi was definitely one of my favorites out of the Korean places that I go to, which are a lot. It has grill marks and were freshly hot, although the portion was on the smaller side even though it was a combo deal. A good spot to go to if you're craving Korean near Ontario, I would definitely stop by again!

good variety of side dishes, served immediately after we placed the order.

3 of us came in on a Saturday evening around 5:30pm. it's next door to dollar tree with a huge parking lot in front. There're still a few tables open. as we ordered and ate until we finished, people are coming in to fill up the place by 6:10. menu is electronic pad on the table with clear photos. server is very friendly and helpful and clarified menu items for us. the 2 servers spoke English, mandarin, Korean and Spanish. they did tell us the owner is Korean but realize there are large population of mixed race patrons so they hired multi-language servers (which I thought was very smart). we ordered 2 soondubu+beef ribs combos. 1 soondobu is with beef/pork/intestine, 1 with oysters. each combo is $32.99. the banchan side dishes (5) came immediately after we placed the order, which is great bc we love snacking on these side dishes while waiting for our food to be served. Many Korean restaurants don't serve the banchan until the order is served (probably to save refills?!), we always had to ask for them early and get frowned at. the tofu soup also came very quickly, followed by the ribs. all are very flavorful. the rib dish is on the small side, only 5 slices. but the soups are same size as other restaurants. they do offer 1 free drink for Google or Yelp review, but the sign did not ask for 5 stars. so personally I think it's fair. overall, I think the service, the ambience and the food were really good and worth the trip. price is a little higher than what I'd like to pay, especially considering the ribs portion are smaller than expected. the whole dinner lasted about 30min, shows how fast the food was served. We will come back to try their cold noodle soups and other dishes.

What a blessing that Tofu Chon has come to Ontario! There's a lot of great Korean food out here but Tofu Chon really brought Ktown to the Inland Empire! I've been here twice now and each visit the food is always consistently delicious and the staff is always friendly and very efficient. I do love that they allow you to order from the iPads, they have really awesome meal sets with a variety of options. The first time I went, I ordered the bibimbap with tofu stew and my partner got the galbi and tofu stew set. Banchan is solid, the stew is really good, but what stood out to me was actually their bibimbap! I haven't had such a savory, flavorful bibimbap in a long time! It's usually very earthy and lighter on flavor, but with their bibimbap, there's almost a different flavor with each bite. It's enhanced by their bibimbap sauce available too! The second time I came, I noticed they expanded their menu and I ordered their newly added cold noodles and soy marinated crab to share with my friends (forgot to take photos because we were hungry). The cold noodles were refreshing with just amount of vinegar and a nice chew to the noodles. Their soy marinated crab was more affordable than when I order them in LA, and they were fresh and perfectly salty with the rice it comes with. They are generous with their portions and very authentic. My visits on a weekend or weekday so far have not had a wait. Tofu chon is our favorite spot for Korean food in the IE that we've tried so far, we look forward to coming back!

Beautiful little spot! Staff were very nice and helpful. Food was also great! Noticed they also have a spot out in LA so will definitely go and check that location out as well.

Went in around 11:32 AM and the place was already 75% full. Anyone coming in after 11:35 had to wait, and there were only two people serving the entire restaurant. Ordering is done through a digital tablet, which was actually pretty convenient, but the food still took about 30 minutes to come out. The banchan felt more catered toward American tastes than traditional Korean flavors. The kimchi and cucumber especially were sweeter than it should be. I ordered the extra spicy soon dubu, but honestly think it's more like medium spicy compared to most Korean spots in Ktown or Rowland Heights. Look at the image of the soup in my review, you'll be able to tell. However, the bigger issue for me was the broth itself. It tasted diluted and lacked the umami depth you expect from a good soon dubu. The color was there, but the body and richness weren't. The galbi was decent and probably the highlight of the meal. Flavor was good overall, though slightly on the sweeter side. What surprised me was that it came out on a hot plate that wasn't even sizzling, which kind of takes away from the experience. Overall, I'd say they're slightly better than BCD in ktown, but definitely not the best soon dubu I've had in SoCal. Giving it 3/5 mainly because the galbi saved the meal.

Sides came as soon as we sat down, and they were super quick to refill them as well. The kimchi was super fresh and tasty. I like how they offer hot tea too The seafood soup came piping hot and was super delicious. Very thick and hearty. The best tofu soup I've had in the IE for sure.

    Seafood pancake and japchae.
    Johnny C.

The food was good, and it definitely had that authentic Korean taste. Although, the sauce on the seafood pancake seemed to have a bit of a Chinese flavor to it. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it was still good. I was a little surprised to hear the staff speaking Chinese, though maybe that makes sense since we live in such a heavily Chinese-populated area. The japchae was pretty salty, so I would want to try it again soon to see if that's just how they always make it.

This is my favorite spot in the area for tofu soup! The food is delicious and comforting, and I also love the variety of banchan that comes with the meal. It can get pretty busy during peak lunch and dinner hours now, but if you go a little earlier or later, you'll be seated quickly and the food comes out fast. The service is quick and the interior is clean and modern. If you're craving tofu soup, bulgogi, or any other Korean dish, this place is a must-visit!

    Ban Chan

This place is a recommended area for Tofu House hunt in Ontario. Place is quite small, but the turnover is quite high quick. We came in during lunch on Sunday. The wait not bad as we were number 3 and waited about 10 minutes. Once seated we were straight ordering through installed tablet to order by ourselves. Ban Chan was served quick and soon after the hot plate and last was the tofu soup (served with raw egg). The only thing I noticed if the bulgogi's hot plate has so much oil at the bottom which I didn't see at other Korean's resto. All staffs were great, friendly and work efficiently.

You know how it's like when you're hungry and you're on a mission? When you check Yelp and all the restaurant listings start calling your name? We made our way over to Tofu Chon in Ontario because the photos were making us drool. The place felt immediately authentic: Korean staff hustling between tables, cozy close-quarter seating, conversations bouncing around the room. Clean, simple, no nonsense. We slipped in right before the rush... which turned out to be a very good life decision because ten minutes later the place was packed! The banchan came out first. All those delectable pickled and petite-sized plates, perfect for ravenous parents and their hungry offspring. Ethan scarfed down the fish cakes like candy. They also had little menu screens at the table which were genius. Tap, order, food appears. Efficient, modern, slightly dangerous when you're already hungry. Soooooo then the soon beef soup arrived. Y'all...Y'ALL. This was not the polite little soondubu soup I thought I knew. This was a bubbling clay pot of flavor...a soulful beefy broth with some silky tofu and freshly-cracked yokey egg. I took one bite and stared at Jordan like, What IS this magic? Yes, my eyes rolled back. It had layers. Depth. Magic in a freakin bowl. Meanwhile Jordan ordered a heaping pile of some ridiculously tender, smoky ribs that disappeared faster than my daughter's patience waiting for the rice to cool. And speaking of rice, Lea ate bowl after heaping bowl of the perfectly-cooked stuff with a little bit of beef, a little bit of fish, a little bit of satisfaction smeared all over her face. Then there was the fried yellow croaker. The first bite basically short-circuited my brain. Crispy, delicate, salty. I couldn't stop stuffing my face. I loved it so much we ordered three more...just for me. If you're mathing that correctly-- I literally ate FOUR FISH. FOUR!!! I never looked back. No regrets. My only complaint? I ran out of stomach before I ran out of curiosity. There were so many things on that menu I wanted to try, but my belly was waving a tiny white flag. Homestyle Korean cooking, a packed table of happy eaters, and a soup that rewired my expectations. Holy soup gods. That was biblical meal!

    Em N.

Came here with some friends to split some galbijjim and soondubu. It was deliciousssss. The meat on the galbijim is so tender. I would have liked the cheese to have been torched a bit but it's cool. Prices are fairly reasonable. You can order on the tablet for convenience. Will definitely need to come back and try the crab. Service is nothing to write home about but they're friendly. The restaurant itself is small so come early if you can!

Thankfully we have experience with HotPot and (sort of) figured it out and even after we expressed concern about how we were suppose to order/write down our meat selections per round (which they claim is unlimited but they only have 3 columns on the sheet) our questions remained unanswered. Trying to flag a waiter down to order more meat was a pain as hardly any were available and we were missing appetizers on our "second" but with the way the service was we figured there wasn't any point in bringing it up not to mention the lack of (flat) soda refills.
