    Ark Shell Bibimbap
    Carlo G.

My first time trying Ark Shell Bibimbap from here and it was pretty good! Ark Shell is a type of shellfish used in East Asian cuisines. In this particular dish, the taste wasn't too fishy since there were a lot of Korean flavorings and sauces used. There also was a generous amount of protein, so the dish didn't feel like it was just rice. I got it with the purple rice and mixed together, it was delicious. The fried egg on top was also perfectly cooked and crispy with a runny yolk. Tha banchan selection was also good with all the fresh veggies. They paired well with the bibimbap, and of course free refills. Overall, the food here I had was great! This new Korean restaurant in Ktown offers several popular Korean classics. A solid choice with something for everyone. The interior and service are pretty nice as well. They have a parking lot out front, but it can get limited since the area is pretty popular.

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW I just had lunch here with my friend. We were actually going to get pho next door but when we parked, we remembered we've been meaning to try Tofu Chon since they opened at this location and pivoted here. It was in between lunch and dinner time---around 2pm when we went and we were the only ones in there. It is bright and spacious in there and each table had an ordering pad for convenient ordering. Our server (I'm sorry, I didn't catch her name) was amazing and periodically checked up on us. The banchan was so colorful---you could just tell that everything was super freshly made. The kimchi was one of the best kimchi I've had in a long time. We both opted for different combos. I got the arkshell bibimbap + extra spicy mixed meat soondubu for $27.99. The food came out fast, piping out, and they were huge portions. BCD has NOTHING on Tofu Chon.

One of the best soondubu out there!! Perfect thickness and flavor and depth all throughout. I got the kimchi pork at the max spicy. It could've been spicier but this quality is much better than BCD in my opinion. Bon chon was good and fresh. The galbi was incredible quality. The potstickers were also very nice and the sauce that came with it was to die for! Great service and open space!

Not entirely sure what they're doing differently, but this tofu soup spot just tastes better than others nearby. The tofu is silky and the broth is savory and full of flavor. I also appreciate that they offer purple rice as an option and the banchan has been consistently solid. We've ordered the combo sets a couple of times, and while the meats are great quality and flavorful, they can be a bit hit or miss depending on the day - the meat dishes can be quite oily at times. That said, it hasn't stopped us from coming back. We've been here a few times just in the past month alone and I already know we'll keep returning. I keep telling myself I'll branch out and try other dishes, but it's hard not to default to the tofu soup every time. Ordering and checkout are done through a tablet at the table, which makes the whole process quick, easy, and modern. Restaurant ambiance is clean, bright, and inviting.

Everything was amazing! This place is located in a plaza in Ktown so if you can either find a spot there (if you're early enough) or street parking. We went early on a Monday day time so there was plenary of open seating. Everything had such great flavors and so fresh and fresh looking as well. We got the combo deals which were great and filling. The service was great as well. I will definitely be coming back here.

Came in for lunch just cause we were in korea town, didnt expect much but everything was so good! Service was good and fast. Food was delicious! Would definitely comeback!

10/10 dining and service experience! We stopped in for some comforting beef tofu soup, and I have to admit this is the best tofu soup in all of Southern California! It's markedly better with a thicker soup base and hearty tofu contents. We also tried the kalbi combo, which is smaller but the buttery meat melts in your mouth. The restaurant is clean, minimalistic, and you order from an iPad. They are generous with their korean side dishes, which you can tell are made fresh and in-house.

Move over BCD! The Ontario legend has finally arrived in K-town. Tired of the endless lines at BCD? I have great news for you. Tofuchon, which I first fell in love with in Ontario, has finally opened its doors right here in LA Koreatown. Get ready for a soft tofu stew experience unlike any other. * Banchan (Side Dishes): The starting line-up was solid. The Kimchi and Cucumber Kimchi were incredibly flavorful and the seasoned vegetables (namul) stayed true to their classic roots. * Galbi: You can tell they use high-quality beef. It had the perfect amount of marbling...making it extremely tender. The seasoning was spot on--not too salty, just savory perfection. * Soon-tofu (Soft Tofu Stew): We tried the Pork and the Seafood stews. The base broth itself is on a different level compared to other spots. There's definitely a "secret recipe" or a special touch here that makes the flavor profile deeply unique and addictive. * Seafood Pancake (Haemul Pajeon): The chef clearly knows the art of the pancake. It was impressively crispy and packed with flavor. Personally, I found the flavors here to be more special and refined than BCD. I honestly think Tofuchon is about to start a new "Soon-tofu boom" in Koreatown. This will definitely be my new regular spot!

We knew that LA has good Korean food so we came with high expectations and were not disappointed. We ordered a combo galbi + seafood soon tofu, and the galbitang. The galbitang was chefs-kiss, with rich and flavorful broth, and well-cooked tender meat. The seafood soon tofu was also excellent in flavor, and paired very well with the purple rice. The galbi is good too, but we lacked the stomach space so will need to enjoy it tomorrow.

Wow amazing taste and service. Everything was so good. I ordered the spicy Galbijim and Galbi set with soon tofu. Located in the same plaza with Out of Ordi and Damo. Valet only. We will be coming back for sure

Found this gem in Koreatown in Los Angeles on my recent trip down there. Seems to be a newly opened place, super clean and has a modern decor. We went in on a Friday afternoon and we were seated immediately. We got the khimchi tofu soup along with the beef tofu soup. Both dishes were extremely flavorful and the tofu was so fresh. I even overheard another patron asking if the tofu was made in house and if they sold it separately co of the high quality! The service was attentive and refilled our banchans without asking. All in all loved the experience here and recommend folks looking for good Korean food to give this a try!

Let's face it, K-Town's dining & drinking institutions are a dying breed. Ever since Beverly Soon Tofu's exodus, a competent bowl of scalding hot Soondubu (silken tofu stew) can be quite a commodity. Aside from BCD, capable options are few and far in between. But wait, there's a new competitor in (K) town. ** Tofu Chon joins ##chat Enter Tofu Chon. A fast-casual tofu house out of Ontario CA which specializes in, you guessed it -- Soondubu. A new tofu house in K-town, you say? Say less, fam. Opted for the Galbi (bbq short ribs) & Seafood Soondubu (mild) combo tonight. The combo includes banchan (side dishes) & a bowl of rice (choice of white or purple). Banchan - Fresh & delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed every dish. Galbi - Served on a bed of sautéed onions. Each morsel was well-marinated, flavorful, & tender -- with just the right amount of chew. Seafood Soondubu - Aromatic, savory, & delicious -- with just the right amount of heat. Served bubbling hot with plenty of small shrimps & clams (opted for a raw egg on the side). The service was fast, friendly, and efficient. We were promptly seated by front of the house team. Each table comes equipped with a touchscreen tablet, which makes ordering a breeze. The menu is small, yet effective -- ranging from quintessentials like Bibimbap (mixed rice with meat & veg), Haemul Pajeon (seafood pancake), & Galbijjim (braised short rib) to Gejang (raw marinated crab). Parking can be a nightmare in dystopian K-town. But don't fret. The lot is strictly valet -- albeit at an affordable fee of $3.00. If you are craving for a serious bowl of Soondubu or too impatient to brave the lines at BCD, give Tofu Chon a shot.

This spot just opened. So let's see if they're pretty good eh or ew. I got their galbi soon tofu combo non spicy for my grandma and galbi jjim to try. They started us off with complementary toasty barley tea which my grandma really enjoyed and super fresh, super flavorful banchan. My faves were the sesame oily, sweet, savory bean sprouts and spinach ones. The galbi in the galbi soon tofu combo was tender, sweet, savory, and had those perfectly grilled flavors. Pure deliciously. The soon tofu came with an egg to crack in, plenty of firm yet jiggly tofu, a decent amount of meat and savory comforting warm soup. It even came with some pretty purple rice. This was my first time having galbi jjim and wow. I got it mild and added cheese and glass noodles to it. They come to your table with it and torch the cheese which is super cool. It had a bunch of things from the chewy glass noodles and rice cakes, soft sweet pumpkin, and super tender yummy short ribs. And a bunch of that toasty savory cheese. This thing legit had cheese pulls for dayssss. It's clean, service is fast and good and portions are good and food is yummy. Overall this place is pretty good! Galbi jjim $91.99 Galbi soon tofu combo $32.99

But as beef stew goes...it wasn't stew-ish enough. Mostly because it has some strong seasonings, and the pieces of beef were cut really small, so it was more like a beef stir fry. That said, it was really tasty. Very flavorful, and the quality of the beef was good. I can see myself going there again. As for he place itself, the staff were nice, though going at lunch meant they were a little (and understandably) distracted. The website makes it seem like it's just for pick-up or delivery, but they have a couple small tables, both inside and outside. And I do mean small. Two people max. There's also a decent sized parking lot (the place is in a mini mall), and there's usually street parking, but at the moment Wilshire is under construction, so plan accordingly.

There is sometimes street parking but the availability is rough, it's tough to park, and even one of the meters we ended up at just didn't work. They only charge a $5 cash service charge though, which isn't bad. We were lucky to be seated right away, even in a packed restaurant. The restaurant has a surprisingly modern design, and is comfortable for as small as it is. We were quickly served their signature kimchis and barley rice. The kimchi, particularly the yeolmu (young summer radish) kimchi, has a unique flavor profile well suited to their food. We ordered 2 bowls of their plain kalgooksu, 1 bibim milmyun, and 1 tteokbokki. The food came out fairly quickly. The kalgooksu was as expected the star of the show. The anchovy broth brings a savory complexity that seems impossible for a soup made from just dried fish and a few other ingredients. It even has a rich, almost thick, quality to it that is surprising for a fish broth. Their noodles, the titular kalgooksu, have the signature irregularity and chew of knife cut noodles. I appreciate the vegetables that always come in kalgooksu, like potato, pumpkin, and zucchini, which offer an earthy heartiness to the light soup. My only complaint is that the potato is in huge irregular chunks, and is barely cooked, though I feel like I have had this issue with many of the kalgooksu bowls I've had over the years. The bibim milmyun was solid. I think that I prefer the texture and flavor of naengmyeon buckwheat noodles, but the milmyun, which are made with mostly wheat flour, still provide a satisfying chew. The sauce tasted bright and fresh, especially with a splash of added vinegar. It also came with a small side portion of spicy pork and some rice paper to wrap. The tteokbokki was the one let down of the meal. To be fair, I wasn't expecting much out of tteokbokki at all restaurant like this whose specialty is essentially the opposite. I ordered the tteokbokki as a "safe pick" for a picky eater in the group. It turned out to be a bit mediocre in our opinion, and that friend ended up enjoying their kalgooksu anyways. If you're looking to try this dish, it's definitely one of if not the best I've had in Southern California, so I'd totally recommend it. I'll also warn to steer clear of the Garden Grove restaurant of the same name and specialty. I think it's a disappointing mimicry of this place.

Luckily, they were there (waiting in the car) so I told them to walk over so we can be seated. I ordered 2 orders of chiayi chicken (1with white rice and 1 with brown rice), 2 orders of thousand layer pancake (1 with egg and 1 with egg and cheese), shrimp wonton, dance dan noodles, wonton noodle soup, hakka mochi and forbidden rice pudding. For drinks we had a few of the shaken iced green teas and 1 taro milk tea (my sister said it didnt taste like taro) Everything was great. I was surprised my sister's bf liked the food. The chiayi chicken was good with a bit of the chili sauce (sambal). The thousand layer pancake was good if you dip it in the black vinegar (mixed with chili oil and a little soy sauce). The shrimp wonton were surprisingly light and tasty. The dan dan noodles was balanced my medium thin sliced cucumber. Casual setup where you order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. I had already looked through the menu beforehand, so the real challenge was narrowing down what to order for one person. I failed at that... and I'm very happy I did. Started with the Pig Ear Salad 滷豬耳朵. Braised thin sliced pig ears dressed with soy sauce, chili oil, sesame oil, scallion, and cilantro. OMG. So good. Tender, flavorful, perfectly braised, with that satisfying chewy texture done right. Also got the Fried Peanut Salad 五味花生 with garlic, cilantro, scallions, vinegar, and Thai chili. Super crunchy, bright, refreshing, and honestly addicting. I added a cup of the Hot & Sour Soup 酸辣湯 too. Organic tofu, beech mushroom, carrot, bamboo, woodear mushroom, and egg. Super comforting with a really balanced tang and peppery heat. Not overly thick or heavy like a lot of Americanized versions can be. Exactly the kind of soup you want during a long travel day. For noodles, I ordered the Dan Dan Noodles 擔擔麵. Sesame-peanut sauce, cucumber, cilantro, crushed peanuts. Delicious on its own already, but I ended up adding some of the fried peanuts from the salad into the noodles and it became even better. Then the Three Cup Chicken 三杯雞 with sesame oil, soy sauce, rice wine, and Thai basil. I do wish it had a little more wok hei, but overall the flavor was still really comforting and savory. Extremely good with rice. Had a glass of Gewürztraminer alongside everything, which paired surprisingly well with the spice and aromatics. Their wine list leans more organic / natural wine focused, which felt very LA in a good way. Ended up sitting at a high top next to one of the managers and had a great conversation throughout the meal. She ended up hooking me up with the Traditional Shaved Ice 傳統刨冰 with grass jelly, red bean, boba, sweet potato balls, taro balls, brown sugar syrup, and condensed milk. I was already planning to order it anyway, and wow... I finished the entire thing. The brown sugar syrup was incredibly fragrant. Packed the leftovers to-go, and that ended up becoming my dinner after landing in San Francisco later that evening. Flight cancellation somehow turned into a really great food day.

It's very poor workflow, not to mention negligent customer service. The management should really take notice before business goes under.

Had a great experience at Sulga House of Beef Bone Soup…read more Their beef bone soup is simple, clean, and really solid, the kind of comfort food that just hits right for the soul. They currently have a great deal at $12, which makes it even better value for what you're getting. The sullungtang comes with rice, soup, and two types of kimchi. Service was friendly and efficient, and the whole experience felt easy and satisfying. Place was chill, not too overly crowded. I've noticed a lot of people ordering other dishes every time I go, so I'm definitely looking forward to trying more of the menu, but I keep coming back for the basics because it's just that good.

Sulga was definitely THE place to be for a warm bowl of bone broth on a rainy night. My friend and…read moreI stopped by for doganitang (for two), and the portions were indeed large - for four. We also added beef brisket since my friend wasn't a big fan of cartilage - more for me! The pot itself wasn't too deep, though there was a good portion of protein cartilage. Also important to note that rice was NOT included! The brisket add on came as a pre-cooked brisket that was added in after, as it didn't initially fit in the pot. The staff member told us at the time that broth refills were free. However, when it came time for refills, they said it was only one time - poor communication. Paying was fairly straightforward, but for future visits, I'd likely just come for their lunch special sullongtang after this experience.
