We recently built a new house on a vacant 2.25-acre parcel of land. Shortly after moving in, we hired a landscape architect to prepare a landscape plan/design and drawing for us, including a detailed list of all plants and materials. Our plan was to submit that landscape plan to several high-quality and experienced landscaping companies so we could get apples-to-apples and comparable bids. The scope of this project was huge. Our house sits on a 2.25 acre piece of land in Farmington Hills. Much of the property was just open land area filled with super-tall weeds. There were also many areas of densely-packed and overgrown vegetation and undergrowth, which were a mixture of thick climbing vines, thorny shrubs and many dead or dying trees. Moreover, the unevenness of the ground required lots of machine grading and the installation of hundreds of yards of soil. The project necessitated a huge amount of "cleanup" before the true landscaping could even start. In addition to the plantings, we also needed a patio, outdoor kitchen and firepit installed. We also needed two irrigation systems installed (one for city water and a separate one for the irrigation well) and landscape lighting. All were part of the project and bidding process. We contacted five companies seeking a bid to implement our landscape design plan. We obtained price quotes from all of them, and all were in the same rough ballpark, which was about $250,000. That is an outrageous number, but it was consistent among the different competitors, and this was, after all, a huge project. Todd's Services was the most responsive company that we contacted. They set up a meeting within a day of our initial contact. Todd (not "the" Todd of Todd's Services, but an awesome Todd nonetheless) met me at the house, and we walked through the project. He was extremely knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. Not only that, he mentioned that he had some ideas that could save money by making small tweaks to our existing landscape design. He assured me that, based on his experience, those modifications would result in large costs savings without impacting the final result. It was obvious to me that Todd and his company knew exactly what they were doing and had the resources to do such a large project. After carefully reviewing all of the bids we received and meeting on-site with each company, we decided to go with Todd's Services. That was the best decision we ever made! It was an easy decision because Todd's Services was the most responsive company, has awesome communication and had some excellent ideas for improving the landscape design in way that would save us money. Todd's Service's was able to cut nearly $35,000 off the cost of the project without compromising quality. Not only that, they had the resources and equipment needed for the project. Everyone (without exception) who works at Todd's Services is extremely professional, polite, and accommodating. The crew was simply amazing--meticulous, clean, prompt, accurate, professional, and detailed. A special shout out to CHRIS and JOEY who busted their butts on the project. And another shout out to KEVIN who installed the outdoor grill and fire pit and also helped design and implement the vast irrigation system for the entire 2+ acre area. Kevin also designed and installed the landscape lighting system, which literally has people stopping their cars while driving by to admire it. Given the breadth of the project, it took nearly two months of hard work by Todd's Services to transform our property from a muddy, overgrown field into a beautiful home with a gorgeous yard. Todd's Services always had a crew of at least four people on site working, and many days had about ten people on the project. They installed hundreds of plants and full-sized trees (there were so many plants, in fact, that at least two semi-trucks made deliveries). It was a constant buzz of hardworking people working nonstop on the project. I was impressed how the crews always arrived on time each day and how they left the job site clean and tidy every evening when they left. The end result is incredible. In fact, the team is so customer-focused that they even ran to the rescue of my daughter who got stuck in the mud of the yard walking home from school. We HIGHLY recommend this company!! The customer service is impeccable. From the first visit all the way up to every interaction, you can tell these people care and take pride in their work. 5 stars well deserved!!! I was at McDonald's on Dixie Highway in Waterford. Todd's Services were doing landscaping there. I pulled through the drive-thru to order a Coffee. When i was waiting to order 4 men working for Todds Services were yelling mean things at me, calling me "fat". Saying really loudly look at that girl in the Maroon Fusion she's huge, look at her arms, wow. Do you see her? I felt completely humiliated. The girl taking my order couldn't hear through the speaker because they were yelling so loudly to each other about me. I felt terrible after I left. Those men completely embarrassed me, humiliated me, and made me feel disgusting. I would never get services from their company. Todd's Landscaping are cheap hacks. They did some work on my neighbors yard, and subsequently wore down my grass in the process. When they seeded my neighbors yard, they made sure not to sprinkle any seeds on my side, even though, I talked to the job supervisor, and he assured me that they would take care of everything. I also asked my neighbor to remind them to restore my yard afterwards. Nothing. As for my neighbors yard, nothing more than mediocre, after spending $10,000. The result was almost complete failure. We continue to suffer most of the same water runoff and the lawn was left worse than it was prior to their work. We have been dealing with all sorts of issues for our new house and Nadine was very respectful of keeping us within our budget but still fixing what we could. Not sure what all you get for $ 10,000 since I was merely told the price prior to "Todd's" bothering to schedule a quote. Had complete sod & sprinkler system installed. Would never use them again!Spent tens of thousands of dollars for poor quality sod, an irrigation system that broke spilling tons of gallons of water from it that had to be repaired with no compensation for water loss & terrible customer service! They are only about the below line...theirs! The clovers were not roots in the ground as they were there at the time of planting. My water bill was $1000.00 after gushing water from my house for over 3 hours!!! If you want to see it I will be happy to forward it to you. You offered to pay me $40 which I never received & frankly was minuscule to the cost of your work! I would have been pleased if the work was done right, if you stood by your products & service with quality workmanship but you didn't! read more

A+ Experience. We called Todd's in to perform some remediation required as a result of another landscaper and they definitely set the bar for what I would expect from a landscaping services provider. They were courteous, had appropriate services contracts, and accurately scoped the work required. They delivered the services as promised efficiently taking only part of the day to deliver that which the other landscaper we contracted wasn't able to deliver at all. I asked Todd Services for a quote for a significant landscaping operation -- I was met with rude staff - a truly bizarre experience. After numerous phone calls and an onsite visit, no quote was every provided and I was treated very rudely by staff claiming that their time as a service provider was more valuable than mine -- clearly a case of a company not understanding "the customer is always right" principal. He advised me what I needed for drainage and gave me good design options for plants and overall design. Further, the install went flawless thanks to the team of Jake, Lee and Ben! We've been with Todd's Services for 23 yrs, since they put in the irrigation system and landscaped our brand new home in Pittsfield Twp. They open and close our system every year. Upon opening the sprinklers for the new season, Todd's changes damaged heads, sets the water output per zone, etc.- typical maintenance procedures. This year Steve LaFairre serviced our home and he did an excellent job. He was punctual, polite and knowledgeable. We had a 3 point check list that we wanted address and he did everything we requested and coincidentally, all were on HIS check list as well. Several years ago Todd's installed our sprinkler system and laid sod in our new home. We were pleased with their work at that time. In the past year we had a leak in one of the valves. We had a Todd's repair person come to investigate... he found nothing, closed the system and said he would fix it in the spring. Come spring he opened the system and then explained he would have to come back because there wasn't enough time for the leak to let out enough water. On the third service call he dug a hole around the valve which filled with water but he couldn't find a leak. He suggested it was the city water line leaking and flowing uphill to my valve. I finally went to another business. They found the leak within five minutes and fixed it. I won't be using Todd's ever again. read more

From design with Tom to design/construction with Gary (absolutely fabulous!), we have loved everything. This review is for Todd's lawn care services. I previously used Todd's to design and install a patio and I was very pleased with the service and work. Based on that positive experience I asked Todd's to clear out a bunch of landscaping in my back yard and replace it with just grass. I told them I was willing to wait until a different time of year if it was better and that I would do seed or sod based on their recommendation (i.e., I was in no hurry and I wanted whatever would yield the best results). They recommended seeding and did the planting in the fall. This was a few years ago. The following spring the lawn did not appear to be coming in well and I called multiple times for advice on what to do and followed what I was told. Things did not improve and I took pictures and emailed and called to complain, and they finally came out and did some additional seeding and/or fertilizing. Whatever they did didn't improve things. The next spring (last year) the lawn was even worse with old plants/weeds reappearing, and again I took pictures and called to complain. I was eventually contacted by a supervisor, who basically said get some fertilizer and weed preventer and things would improve. So they basically blew me off, but I did what they suggested and things improved only marginally. I went with Todd's for this service because I had a good experience with them previously and because of their reputation, and I was willing to pay a premium for what I thought would be premium service. Sadly, the service was not good and here I am 3 years later and basically in a position where I am starting over with my lawn. I would not recommend Todd's Services. read more

I had Todd's Services Landscaping out to turn on my sprinkler system. After turning on the sprinkler system, the technician uncovered an issue with one of the elbow joints leaking and went to work repairing the leaking joint. About 2 hours after the technician left, I heard rushing water coming from the side of the house. Upon inspection I found water streaming out of the location of where he attempted to fix the elbow joint.Apparently it had ruptured at some time after he attempted to fix the leaking joint and burned a hole in the siding of my house. The next day, they sent out a more experienced member of the team to fix the leaking pipe. However, I still have the issue of the 2 inch diameter hole and burn marks in the siding of my house. It has been three weeks since this occurred and I have not gotten resolution on the issue, despite calling them at least two to four times each week. I did speak to a manager and he said he would come out to investigate the issue and see what he could do to make the siding look better. He has yet to come out and inspect the siding. He said Todd's would in no way pay to repair the siding they ruined. This is a very untrustworthy company. I would not recommend using them for any landscaping project. I will never use them again. Update: The manager came by and fixed the siding on our house. I really would have appreciated more communication from them. read more

They don't stand behind their work and do a lot of bait and switch with you. I had a problem and they say well that's what you paid for. Nothing is clear with them. We worked with Todd's Services to do our master landscaping and deck plans on a new construction. We worked with Tom Hall as the designer and he was very helpful. We met with Tom several times to discuss designs, options and selections. Having moved from TN, we weren't familiar with what types of plants would do well here. He provided plenty of guidance for options, understanding that we wanted low maintenance and deer resistance. We also said that we wanted the beds easy to mow around and he tool that into account in the design. We've opted to work on the plan in phases. We just completed the first phase which was the main landscaping in the front and side of the house, which included a small area of pavers, and yard trees. They scheduled two crews to tackle the work, and it was all done in one day! The crews were professional and courteous. They moved a large boulder from the edge of the property into one of the beds, and that was quite an ordeal, but they made sure that we were happy with the positioning. They laid down plywood on the lawn to drive heavy machinery on it and stage materials. That helped avoid damage to the lawn. Since our grass is still getting established, we have some bare spots, and the crew raked those spots and put down some seed as a bonus. They staked down the trees well and walked us through watering and care. And then the left the property and street even cleaner than it was before. Tom and another designer Jeff checked on the work throughout the day, and Tom followed up with us the next day to make sure we were satisfied and walk us through care of everything. Highly satisfied with the experience. Couldn't have asked for more. We're looking forward to doing the next phase (deck and patio) with Todd's Services. UPDATE: We had Todd's Services back to build our deck. They were very helpful in working with us to find the right design for our deck and finding the materials we wanted. We decided to use man-made decking materials. The crew from Todd's was excellent. They handled the permit and inspections. We ran into an issue with the materials - manufacturer's fault, not Todd's. The project manager and service manager went above and beyond in fighting the manufacturer on the issue, making sure we were satisfied with the outcome. In the end, the crew put in much more labor than we were ever charged for and the managers had quite the runaround from the manufacturer. Really outstanding service from Todd's Services once again! read more

First off let me say that I was taken back a little by the price at first. Once I seen the process and involvement I feel like the price wasn't high at all. Pretty fair as a matter of fact. But with that said Franicsco and Jared are top notch. Building boulder walls is an art and Francisco is incredibly talented at putting the puzzle together. Francisco and Jared both work really hard, great professional attitude and a pleasure to have at my home and hated to see them leave. I wish I could leave five stars out of ten. I had Todds out to do drainage work to stop my driveway from washing out. They dug out one side of my driveway and put in drainage and stone and the only problem with that side is the amount of settlement of the stone. I feel they should have rounded it up to compensate, so after just one year I had to pay more money to get a lot more stone. The other side of the driveway is where my major issue lies. They added stone to the wall which is only ok because it doesn't match what was already there and the drainage behind that wall works but they didn't go deep enough and now I can't grow grass within a foot or so of the wall. They came out eventually but just basically fertilized and re seeded which died like it had the two previous times it was seeded, told me it was draining too much to grow anything and offered to bring out edging and stone to make it look finished if I would pay for the labor...I already paid to much according to another contractor...so no thank you, it looks terrible. I Do Not recommend Todds for this type of work. read more

In a very short amount of time I was contacted by one of the sale personnel and a meeting was scheduled. The quote for the job came shortly after that and was very well presented and easy to understand. I received several quotes for this job but it was Todd's price and professionalism that sold me to contract them. They started the job when they said they would and the finished it on time and on budget. I couldn't be more pleased with the service and professionalism that Todd's provided me. I was deciding between a brick or cement drive since I was building a new front entryway and kitchen side entrance with pavers. The Lawn architect from Todds designed a beautiful map of how the driveway and pavers would connect and how the landscaping would be with irrigation drainage. I signed the contract, he said he was getting a permit. A month went by. I called his company and they said late May due to an issue getting Concrete and the weather. He came back a second time telling me the irrigation system needed to be different, the city would not allow the lengthening of the driveway and the pavers would be too expensive for me. He reduced the paver plan down to a walkway and the entry way and kitchen door. He came by a third time, this time NO new driveway and I would need to build a Rain Garden for more money. I called and cancelled the contract. They charged me $750 for a permit not used and $518 for labor. read more

Was very excited to hire Todd's Services Landscaping, Hamburg, MI. Read several reviews which were mostly glowing. Had heard that they were pricey but that the level of professionalism and quality would be worth it!! Got a quote for $12,500 for the perennials and small amount of stamped concrete on the porch and walkway (displayed in photo). I felt as if I was being gouged but still felt the quality and professionalism would be worth it. The difficulty came when I inquired about the date of completion. I was told by salesman Matt that the work would be started on Monday. Monday came the crew showed up, worked for an hour and did not return on Tuesday. I inquired with Matt the salesman. Multiple excuses as to why things did not progress as anticipated. Okay. Some things are not in the control of the company. But when Matt replied that the company does million dollar projects. I hope this did not imply that my business was not appreciated. So I called the company spoke with the Sales Manager (mark i believe) who states they have 800 customers per year... and he'd have to call back after looking into it. Sales manager and Doug (general manager) phoned back. After a brief explanation of my concerns, Doug states that they have 700 customers per year and so on. After a bit of back and forth I decided that my business was not needed by Todd's. Doug wished me "good luck in getting your work done by 12 weeks" and agreed to return my deposit. We took several bids on redoing our landscape and finally selected Todd's as they could handle the entire job of landscapping, sprinklers and a deck. Once everything was set to go, August 13th, we were told that the job would be complete by the time we left for our vacation, which was September 19th. Todd's did not even start the job until September 8th and needless to say the job was not completed by the 19th, it actually was not completed until October 7th. I would suggest to everyone that using Todd's would not be a good idea unless you have the time to be present when they are doing the work as they do not follow the plans. We had had glowing recommendations from friends that hey do excellent work. Examples of the issues we had are the following: They planted the wrong plants in our back bed, we asked for "Wine and Rose Weigalias" which are red in color; and the planted "French Lace Weigalias" which are greenish yellow. Sure once pointed out to them they said "oh, my bad" and replaced them, but it should have not occurred. We ordered a 8-10 foot Arborvitae to replace the one that had died and they showed up with one that was 5 foot and would have put it in the ground if we would have not stopped them. Our walkway was to be paver stones in a random pattern. When we came home from work it was done in straight lines. When questioned about it they siad" well it is a random pattern as the bricks are different size." I then informed them that according to the contract and design plan I had it was not random as the contract states per design. They then conceded to remove and replace it to the correct pattern. After completing the new walkway, I noticed that they did not redo the step inlay. This was the day we left for vacation and they called the next day and informed us that they had talked it over and decided that it would involve too many small cuts to put the same pattern in the step and it would look terrible. We informed them that once we got back from vacation we would look at the step and let them know. My wife upon our return made a design that would mirror the pattern of the walkway, this was actual size and we contacted them to have it replaced per her design. Over the course of the installation of the landscapping we had three (3) different lists of issues and concerns that need to be corrected to get the job done according to the plan. They misplanted our boxwoods so instead of being near the porch to create a hedge, they were planted 4-5 feet in front of the porch. They took off all of the downspouts while they were doing the work and damaged several of them. Ours are beige and werre set up with removable ends for grass cutting and when they were done they had lost all of the pins to hold the end pieces on as well as putting the dented ones back on and also replaceing some with white pieces. They placed a sprinkler head under the area where the deck was to be built, which had to be removed and replaced. The placed another sprinkler head under our gas meter which also had to be removed. The crew was not professional and left the yard a mess every night with the scrap and their trash, bottles, paper etc. The only good thing to happen while the work was being completed was the deck crew. They came in and had the deck done in 3 days and all during the process they were polite and very professional, they asked if they had questions concerning our deck and made sure that we were satisfied. I would not recommend them as you need to be constantly on top of them or the work will not be correct. Once all of the issues were completed the landscapping looks nice but it was not worth the time, effort and price to get this done. Over priced for the effort. read more
