Visited my brother in the Sheboygan area and we decided to check out Tochi finally. I'm always up for great ramen and we'd heard good things about Tochi. We got there not long after 4pm on a Monday and I'd say it was 3/4 full. It's a very small place so I imagine it fills up regularly. Very cool vibe in there. We sat at the bar. The people there were overall very nice and friendly. I opted for the braised beef mazeman ramen. It was superb! I'd say better than most ramen I've had in WI. I found this little gem online and then a local business associate told me excellent things about Tochi Ramen, so I had to try it. It is in Downtown Sheboygan and you can easily drive past it if you are not careful. There was a small wait for three of us on a Tuesday evening. They got us in, seated, gave us menus, and took our drink order. This place is a small dive with limited seating, but I never felt cramped. Our table first started with the Pork Steam Buns. Amazing! The pork belly and sauce with a perfectly cooked steamed bun was delicious! Two of us had the Tonkatsu. The broth was rich and hearty. The whole thing worked wonderfully together. It was so much food that I took it for the best lunch the next day! Our server was very nice, explained what things were, and checked on us. The overall ambiance, meal, and price were a nice value. Unfortunately, we did not get the dine in experience but did grab several dishes off the menu. We were disappointed in how it was packaged. Typically Asian soups are packaged separately from the noodles to avoid the starch soaking up the juices and the noodles from just falling apart. So that was unfortunate, even though we were 10 mins away, the food did not hold up well during that drive. Appetizers were unimpressive. Flavors were bland and generic. Deviled eggs were not worth the price, unfortunately we were hoping for some special flavors and that's why we tried it, but were disappointed. We got the buns and the pork belly was tender and fall apart so we give them that, but just some hoisin sauce and cucumber accompanied it. Again, for the price and location, would expect cheaper vs better flavors to warrant the request. Cucumber salad was not good at all. We had 2 palates try it and not impressed, not refreshing. Onto ramen, beyond the to go packaging issues, the noodles had soaked up most of the soup, condiments were minimal except deviled egg and green onions. Protein was plenty and fall apart good but soup itself was disappointing. Ambiance was dim and tight. Mostly smaller seating areas and bar seating. Tochi is a modern Japanese-style restaurant. I suppose it could be called fusion since the entrees have a "spin" on the style and flavor. I had the grass-fed beef mazeman and my wife had the Donburi. We also tried the pork steamed bun. Everything was great and full of unique flavor. The Mazeman (ramen) had a generous amount of meat and spice. I really enjoyed the egg on top. The flavor combination was perfect. I ordered takeout. So, I can't comment on the dining experience. But, takeout was pretty flawless. The interior of the restaurant looked inviting and it had a "punk rock / anime" vibe. They even have funky/ironic t-shirts for sale. Overall: I would definitely recommend Tochi. My wife and daughter loved Tochi's. I didn't think I would be much of a fan and didn't visit here for my first time ever until Thursday 09/30/21. I enjoyed the deviled egg appetizer and my beef ramen dish was solid. That being said ramen dishes are just not my thing when it comes to my dining dollars. Unfortunately for those that were fans of Tochi's it turns out 10/02/21 was their last day in business in West Bend. I'm glad I can say I visited before they decided to pull the pin. Exceeded expectations, we went in a bit snooty and came out big fans. A well oiled local machine and friendly owner. We had the butter corn ramen with fake chicken and it was excellent - a massive knob of butter slowly melted over everything. The fake chicken was better than the real thing. I know this because we had the chicken udon to compare. Prices were very reasonable at $16 and $17. Manage your expectations, this is a little gem. The menu has little twists and its own identity. This ramen is definitely some of the best in the greater Milwaukee area. The miso deviled eggs were to die for. The pork bao was so fluffy and flavorful (but a bit fatty). My only gripe is that there are very limited ramen options and it is stated on the menu to not ask for swaps of things because the flavor profiles are carefully crafted. I am mostly vegetarian and would prefer a vegetarian or chicken option that sounded exciting or spicy. The options available are just so bland sounding and I want things like mushrooms or more veggie forward in my ramen. Tonkatsu/pork belly and fatty beef are usually not my vibe and I ended up having to just give away my meat in my ramen to others (which is unfortunate because it was expensive). The options don't vibe with my preferences but that doesn't mean the food isn't exceptionally well done and delicious if you like your ramen as they serve it. read more

A little hard to find, and you might just drive by without knowing it. They have old Godzilla movies playing on the TV above the bar. The food is fantastic, I've tried several dishes and never been disappointed. There aren't a lot of seats in the place so you might want to call ahead. Cue the music...ensue pogoing in the mosh pit....enjoy some ramen. Did I ever expect an atmosphere of punk rock with a Japanese twist? Nope, but damn I loved it. Husker Du posters along with Ramones-esque t-shirts with Ramen are some of the cool things you will see at Tochi. When Tochi was in Milwaukee I didn't visit but I had this place on my bucket list to try. I was staying 15 minutes away so I had to finally get here. I am just sorry I waited so long to give Tochi a try. Based on other reviews I had to get the shisito pepper appetizer which was a great call. Imagine Russian roulette with peppers with most mild but one or two that are spicy....you never know who will get the hot one. Beyond the fun of the "spice game" the flavors are incredible - a little fat combined with the slightly sweet sesame on the charred pepper. Allegedly there is fish sauce in the dish but you can't taste any of it but it gives the dish a nice umami. For ramen I took the server's advice and got the grass fed beef ramen and added the crisp pork. When I let others taste the pork they immediately ordered a side for their ramen. I loved the flavors of the ramen but like others said it could have used more broth. Next time I will pay a little extra for that tasty broth. The beef was good but the crisp pork was definitely the star. Will I drive 40+ minutes to eat at Tochi? Yes, I will because it is some of the best ramen in southeast Wisconsin. read more

Hi! I went there this past week and was super excited to try a new place in the area. Been hearing great comments and feedback Tochi. When I arrived an employee was so kind and professional and was very polite. The staff seated us on the bar area and while we were looking at the menu the owners? Maybe? Not sure we're serving and talking to us throughout our experience there. To start off I noticed there was pepper paste and politely asked if I could try it in a dish. Love gochujung, especially if it's homemade! The owner kept asking questions and seemed a little frustrated that I wanted to simply try it. My household eats a lot of Korean and Asian food in general. They did kindly end up getting a small plate for me of the paste. The brat dumplings were ok.. they were in a broth when served and the wrapping was very thin and was breaking off of the dumpling, so most of the dumplings were just the brat... do not recommend! My ramen was very yummy!! However in our house I make ramen fried and that's how we grew up. I was eating it on the plate mixing with spice and the other owner seemed a bit angry on how I was eating my food. "What's wrong with the broth?" (Nothing wrong with the broth, it was excellent!!) however when I explained I usually try my ramen, she walked away pouty! The other owner serving us was very goofy and fun, however he made it very clear (in a joking manner) he did not like me. Jokingly called me an a**hole. I'm sorry but business owners, any employee anywhere should not be saying that to their customers and even to their customers. Even if it's jokingly. Once again the food and ambiance was very great and amazing. However the owners just simply made the experience a little rough while trying to enjoy the food. Oops! My husband and I travel often, so I hate to say, but my expectations were low being in the middle of Wisconsin, but this was easily my best ramen experience ever. And not just the ramen, the deviled eggs, the cucumbers, the spam buns - wow. Flavors were phenomenal, owners were awesome and involved in the dining experience. So well done across the board. Finally made here! Yay! I've heard so much about Tochi that I've literally been dying to try it. Well today was finally the day. We arrived shortly after they opened and it was really quiet. Not a big surprise since it was slightly after 4pm. I skipped lunch and honestly starving. I went with my 16 year old son, who was also starving. We decided to get some appetizers. Miso deviled eggs and the shoshito peppers, which came out pretty quickly and we delicious! My son said they were the best deviled eggs he has ever had, and the shoshito peppers were out of this world. I cannot explain them sufficiently, but definitely try them!!! Warming there are like Russian roulette as some of the peppers are HOT and others quite mild. Such an adventure! We ordered the tonkatsu ramen and the grass fed beef mazemen and agreed to share...we actually pinky swore just in case. Both were outstanding! But in the end we agreed we liked the tonkatsu ever so slightly more than the mazemen. I think it was the crunchy bits of pork, but what ever it was, it was truly fantastic. They both had very rich and flavorful broths and their noodles were perfect in texture. The soft boiled egg in the tonkatsu was done just right too. The fried egg of the mazemen has a wonderfully runny yolk. Oh and let me give an honorable mention to the marinated shiitake mushrooms in the mazemen. We couldn't finish our ramen and took home two small containers. They provide generous portions. Service was casual, prompt, and friendly. Prices seemed reasonable too. The best in so many ways..... Allergy Friendly: Exceptional (read below) We moved back to Wisconsin in 2014 and started going to Tochi in Shorewood which was within walking distance to my home (close to the corner of Maryland and Capitol Drive location before West Bend location). I have had visitors from Chicago say - 'THIS IS THE THE BEST RAMEN I EVER HAD.' In fact, when they visited, we made it a point to drive out to West Bend. But there is more to it than just saying it's the ramen (yes, I've had ramen in Chicago...and I agree, Tochi is better). My son who is allergic to peanuts, nuts and shellfish was and is able to eat here since the Shorewood days. And during one of our visits to the West Bend location, Gregg, the owner, stated to his staff, "He is the reason we don't have nuts/peanuts in our kitchen" as he pointed to my son Jordan. We have been going to Tochi since Shorewood days, and we have had delicious meals, appetizers and desserts a this great place. Not one bad experience-everything always outstanding. Yes, not all the ramen is free of shellfish, but the menu is labelled clearly so you can make an informed choice. The servers are careful and double check on ingredients when necessary. They do use ingredients that are packaged in Asia, but again, so one needs to be cautious, but we have had a great success there. This is allergy friendly as a restaurant can get. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. For those who are vegan, the spicy miso ramen is delicious. The tofu is not bland and mushy, instead it's tasty. The shishitos are outstanding - I have not seen them any other restaurant. Desserts outstanding and again, being allergy savy they double check the ingredients to make sure the person with nut allergies can have it. We drove from Shorewood to West Bend happily for great food and great experience. I am so happy that West Bend location is successful. Service and food are outstanding and I love the punk decor, music, wood tables-everything. The only bad bad part is we moved even further....so it's no longer 'just 45 minutes'-but still will make sure that we will go back. One of the few restaurants we really miss being further out now. I'm not quite sure why it took me so long to visit this amazing restaurant after they moved from Milwaukee. Today reminded me that I should not leave it so long and it is definitely worth the drive to check out this cool spot for amazing Asian fusion food. Read bout the owner as it's a great local story and his passion truly shows in the amazing food served at Toshi. We enjoyed Pork Ramen, Devilled Eggs, Japanese Salad and an amazing Rice dish. The cocktails were also a lot of fun but most importantly the people had a friendly and fun vibe, really looks after us and knew the menu to make sure that we got exactly what was more suited for us. However one night we decided to eat there and loved the atmosphere, I do think at times they could train their existing wait staff better, simple things like not reaching over a customers bowl which side to serve, not rushing the courses.
