CHIPS & SALSA
Michelle N.

This location is in the Century City Mall. It wasn't very busy when I got there around 5pm. You order at the front and then go and sit down with your number. It was happy hour (weekdays 3pm-6pm) so my chips and salsa were only $2! I love their outdoor seating area and it was a great place to catch up with a friend. The food came out quickly and tasted great. The street corn en fuego had a spicy symbol next to it and there was indeed a little spice, not a ton if that's what you're looking for. I would say the value and price match up great and I was certainly full afterwards.

BLACK BEANS

WHY IS THERE ALWAYS CHICKEN IN THE BEANS? I love Tocaya but for the past year anytime I've eaten in person or ordered delivery I always end up chewing on hard pieces in my black beans. I am vegan so I really don't appreciate biting into random hard bits that I'm not sure what they are. I've eat/ordered from the SM location before along with the location that was previously in the Beverly Center and this has never been an issue. PLEASE MOVE THE BEANS AWAY FROM THE MEATS IN THE KITCHEN LINEUP

Amazing place with a good vibes. Perfect location. Good music delicious cocktails I really recommended about the watermelon Margarita only 8$ dollar it's nothing .. and really really delicious . Carina was amazing

First let me say I love this Tocaya Mexican restaurant it really has great food is always fresh but their homemade queso and chips the queso is horrible everything else was fabulous the tacos were fabulous the burrito was fabulous the guacamole and chips is fabulous but that homemade queso is horrible. Service was great we was able to get seated and this was the day of the marathon so it was busy outside of the mall but inside the mall was actually doable you were able to get a seat. Loved the be seated and scan and order your food to be delivered to the table. We will be back!

I'd come back here! Good pricing, quick service, yummy food! I'd recommend the chicken tinga taco, the squash blossom taxo, and the birria bowl!

Quality and portion are going down unfortunately. Service is great. Convenient spot in the mall and nice happy hour.

How is this place still in Business? The food quality keeps getting lower as do the portions and I end up having to get a second lunch An hour later, ....I will definitely never order from this place again.

It becomes my favorite place now! 1. Self ordering, no need pay big tips. 2. Very nice outdoor and indoor sitting area, spacious, and I can just order a drink sitting there and work on my laptop while day. 3. It's the only place, looks nice and clean, I can sit in long time, no need pay big tips. 4. The menu price is very reasonable, cheaper than sweet greens, around $14 for a rice bowl, and $4 for a drink. 5. Very good for family and children hang around. Cause they have large couch area. Good for business talk and date.

FAJITA DEL REY
Farzad F.

What i like about this place, you can have your Mexican fix without having too much saturated fat. This is in the century city mall, so be aware if you come at the wrong time it'll be hard to find a seat. Started with the Chips and guac, they had sunflower and pomegranate seeds which surprisingly was a nice touch, well seasoned. Chips were decent. I ordered the fajita del rey. It was pulled chicken in a reddish stew, black whole beans next to a bed of rice and some pickled peppers. I liked it. The meat portion was a little left to be lacking but the beans were made very well and the flavor was good. Service was good, the floor was a little sticky towards the back but ill give them the benefit of the doubt, might have just been the person before us. If youre looking for a treat that wont be calorie bomb with flavor, give this place a try. I cant give this place 1/2 stars, ill go 4 but really its a 3.5/5.

Stopped in and tried two of their vegan tacos , both were good the cauliflower one was better in my opinion. This place has a nice atmosphere upstairs in the century city mall near the movie theater outside of the food court area. Friendly service , looked like they had a full bar would be nice to grab drinks with the girlies after shopping!

Stopped by Tocaya Organica at this location for a quick bite. The atmosphere was pretty cozy, clean space and comfortable to dine in. The service was also great, from the person who took my order to the one who dropped off the food. Everyone was friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. I ordered four tacos: steak, Tinga, cauliflower, and Baja. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best. The steak, Tinga, and cauliflower tacos were bland and really needed more flavor or a kick. The Baja taco, on the other hand, was the star -- crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The cucumber mint drink was also so good, very refreshing and light, the perfect complement to the meal. Overall, cozy atmosphere and friendly service, but the food could use more seasoning and excitement to match the vibe.

Passion fruit margarita

Good food - had the side of street corn, Tinga taco and steak taco. Drinks are good too under $15 so a good price! They accidentally brought a fajita dish but they corrected that and brought the street corn. All yummy!

Do you take reservations for lunch?

Hi Maxine, thank you for reaching out and your interest in dining with us. As we are a quick casual concept, we don't accept reservations. It is first come first served. If you are looking to seat a group, I would recommend contacting the store…

Do you allow dogs on your patio?

Hi Alanna, yes all of our Tocaya locations allow dogs on the patio.

Does this restaurant serve organic or non-gmo chicken?

No (I'm about 99% sure). Their website states their meat products are hormone, steroid and antibiotic free and the menu says the chicken is "free range" but that definitely doesn't mean it's organic or that the chickens are fed a non-GMO diet.…

We had intended to go to the bar next door, but one look at the crowd there and the loud throbbing music turned us off. I had wanted to go to Mi Corazon anyway, and was glad the group agreed. Lots of great mezcal and tequila options, as well as a well-stocked bar with wine, beer and cocktails. And the food menu looks great, but we didn't try it. Next time! The bartender was great and served us at our table. Brought us chips and a delicious homemade spicy salsa. The atmosphere was perfect for conversation, with good indie music playing at the right level. I will be back.

1 Star -- Extremely disappointing experience…read more Unfortunately, our experience at this restaurant was horrible from the moment we arrived. When I first arrived, I gave them the name of our reservation, and the staff had no idea what I was talking about. We were a party of 6, yet they seated us at a tiny table that was clearly not appropriate for our group. When it was time to order, my husband very clearly told the waiter which pasta he wanted and even showed him a picture of the item on the menu. The waiter looked at it and agreed. My food came out, but my husband's food never did. We eventually found out that his order was never even put in. What made it worse was when the waiter came out saying, "Oh my God, I thought you said you didn't want it." Everyone at the table looked at him completely confused because my husband had literally told him what he wanted and showed him the menu item. Instead of simply acknowledging the mistake and fixing it, we were left waiting. On top of that, trying to get anyone's attention was nearly impossible. We had to repeatedly try to get someone's attention just to get basic service. Then there was another issue with the entrance fee. My sister-in-law had messages showing that we were told that if we ate at the restaurant, we would no longer have to pay the entrance fee. We showed those messages to the woman handling the wristbands, but instead of looking into it or speaking to someone who could clarify the situation, she simply said, "I don't know, you have to pay." No attempt was made to investigate or resolve the issue. After everything that happened, they still added a tip to the bill, despite the extremely poor service we received. Overall, this was one of the most frustrating restaurant experiences I've had. Poor communication, poor service, lack of organization, and no effort to make things right. I definitely will not be recommending this place to anyone, and we will not be returning.

When we arrived, we had to join a line outside in the rain as the restaurant was a few minutes late to opening. While it wasn't a huge deal, it's not something I've experienced before. Shortly after, we were let into the outdoor restaurant through a beautiful thatch tunnel. The aesthetic is stunning. There is a lot of lush greenery and beautiful woven lantern lights, complemented by chill, ambient house music playing throughout. Unfortunately, we were seated very close to a speaker, so the volume was way too loud and made it a bit hard to hear--less than ideal for a date night, though I understand and appreciate the vision. The restaurant also burns incense that fills the air, which I believe was Palo Santo. I personally love that scent, so it was enjoyable for me, but it's something to be mindful of if you are sensitive to smoke or fragrances. Since this restaurant is attached to a hotel, the crowd vibe is a bit odd. Some people, like my husband and me, were dressed nicely for a date night or birthday celebration, while others were literally wearing sweats, flip-flops, and baseball caps. I know the restaurant is catering to hotel guests, but I do wish there was at least a minimal dress code to align with the gorgeous aesthetic and the steep cost of the meal. All of the staff we interacted with were incredibly kind! Our server was wonderful. He was genuinely so nice, and we really appreciated this part of our visit a lot. We ordered quite a bit of food, so we got to taste a lot of the menu. My husband had a Mezcalita de Yucatán to start, and for food, we ordered the blood orange aguachile, the potato taquitos, the cochinita pibil, the oxtail frites, the corn esquite, and the frijoles de la olla. As the sun goes down, the restaurant uses ambient lighting. While I usually like this, one major flaw is that there is so little light that we couldn't see what we were eating by the time our main courses came. Part of the experience of dining is the visual, and we genuinely were unable to see our plates. I don't personally drink mezcal, but my husband enjoyed his cocktail and said it was light and refreshing. The blue prawn and blood orange aguachile featured a delicious, vibrantly tart crimson sauce with a great chili kick, but the prawns themselves were disappointingly mushy and stringy rather than snap-tender. Unfortunately, the dish was held back further by being served with only two very dry, sub-par tostadas. The potato taquitos were exactly as expected; you can't really mess up a dish that is fried and filled with potatoes. The flavor profile of the oxtail sauce was fantastic and the small amount of meat available was incredibly tasty, but the dish suffered from structural flaws. The oxtail itself was disappointingly skimpy on meat. This was okay since my husband and I shared both of the mains, but for the price point, the portion of meat should be more generous. Also, because the Yucatán frites were served directly in the heavy sauce, they quickly became soggy, developing a starchy and slightly slimy texture rather than a crisp bite. The cochinita pibil was yummy, and the pork pulled apart beautifully alongside the excellent fresh tortillas. As for the sides, the frijoles were solid but unremarkable, and while the esquites tasted good, they were a tad too soupy in consistency. While the kitchen clearly understands flavor profiles, the technical execution across all dishes was flawed. Worse still, unfortunately, we ended up with food poisoning after eating here. I cannot say for certain which dish caused it since we ordered an array of things on the menu, but it was a huge bummer, and I would definitely be hesitant to recommend Ka'teen consequently.

Last time I was here was last June & the menu prices were not the correct prices. I was not notified of this by the waitress but when I received the receipt. A difference of $3 for the burritos from the menu prices. The waitress's reasoning was they haven't got their new menus OK no problem. I go back today, 3.5 months later. The burrito menu prices have not been corrected in the menu & I revise the receipt w an increase of $3 and no indication on the menu. The waitress uses the same excuse as she did in June, except this time I call her out on it. She states that it indicates that "prices are subject to change", in very small print. I inform her that that change must be indicated by the waitress or the menu by California law. Even though I brought this to her attention, she stuck by it. She also charged twice for cheese. I also paid for the Large burrito but it came out the mini-burrito. I hate to say, but this place is practicing pricing deception. The owner and the supervisors better correct this, quick. It is the waitresses job to inform the customers of the price increase. This Is technically theft, just like if a customer walks out on a bill. I didn't argue. I just adjusted the tip accordingly. These are tough times & no one should be taken advantage of. Manny would not be cool w this. ***Just spoke w the Manager Ghay about the issue & he was unwilling to listen, & very defensive. He claims that he knows the law & does not have to indicate the current prices. After I explained he was violating city laws by not informing patrons of prices. He said I could speak to the owner "Carlos" & hung up on me. This guy is gonna learn the hard way that he's committing theft. This guy better change his tune bc the place is usually empty these days.
