Been here before and the food is generally good, but service has always been touch and go. This visit was a step down even from that. Walked in on a Sunday around 11:30am, restaurant maybe a quarter full. Seated in a corner with incomplete silverware, no menus for several minutes, no water for even longer. Waited another 10-15 minutes with menus in hand before anyone came to take our order. The food wait aside, what really stood out was the lack of basic check-ins. No "sorry for the wait," no acknowledgment, and when I finally asked for the bill, the manager came over with the terminal, took payment, and walked off without much of a follow-up except to hand over boxes. Just a little warmth goes a long way! Food, when it arrived: * Landwer's Pancakes: the highlight. Three pancakes tall with seasonal fruit, whipped cream, Nutella, and maple syrup. Delicious and a generous portion. * Croissant Sandwich: disappointing. Tough, chewy croissant with thinner filling than the bread size warranted. Hard to get a clean bite. The Century City location is convenient, and parking on weekend mornings is easy before the crowds roll in. read more

I've been to Cafe Landwer a few times over the years, and it was usually decent. After today, though, I don't have any interest in returning. My friend and I made a reservation for outdoor dining for brunch. We arrive right around our reservation time to find nobody at the podium. After a few minutes, a woman comes up and asks, "For two?" before immediately turning around and walking the other way, to which point we stop her and say that we actually had a reservation which we gave her all the details for. She stopped for about half a second, grabbed menus, then turned around again and brought the menus to an indoor table, then just walked away without making eye contact. She did not even tell us to follow her nor say a single word to us once we were seated. No worries, right? Wrong. We perused the menus and waited for about ten minutes, with no staff members coming by to help us. We started looking around to try to flag someone down, but each staff member was either not looking in our direction and/or wearing a different outfit from the next staff member, with some outfits almost having a nightclub aesthetic than wait staff. Eventually, another individual comes by our table and, again, without greeting us or making any eye contact, aloofly says, "Just order off the QR code," which we didn't see because the menus were covering it. Now, my friend who I was with works in the mall, and I know the restaurant offers a discount for mall employees, so as the employee was walking away, I called out and asked if we would still get the discount if ordering off the QR code, and he said yes. Note that in all the times my friend and I have eaten here in the past, it was always traditional table service. Then, we go to place our order, and after adding everything to the basket, it tries to charge my credit card. At this point, almost 20 minutes had gone by since we arrived, with still no single greeting or water or silverware set or anything. I get up to speak to another waiter who was helping nearby tables, to which I am again told to just order off the QR code but was reassured that the mall discount would be applied once the tab was settled. So we oblige and place our order through the portal. Several minutes later, the same waiter who I had most recently spoken with had come to our table (mind you, this is the first time someone came to our table in the entire time we were seated) and said that the restaurant was out of some of the items on our menu. And it was at this point that we FINALLY got waters. At this point, we had to look through the menu again, but it was getting to the point where we were going to miss our movie, so we had to just abandon ship and eat at the mall food court. Upon leaving, the only acknowledgement we got was from the first woman who "brought" us to our table, which was a petty smile and wave. Allow me to make myself clear. I hold no animosity against any establishment for being short-staffed, for requiring QR code ordering, or for being out of ingredients. This stuff just happens. What I do have an issue with is the astounding lack of any grace or hospitality, without even a simple "Whenever you're ready go ahead and use the QR codes on the table" or even a welcome. It just felt as though every person was just trying to get by with doing the bare minimum, and every employee had attitude. Even the couple next to us, who had been seated before we arrived, never got acknowledged. It's honestly a shame, because many of the items here are great, and the offerings are unique, but if this is how Cafe Landwer chooses to operate and treat its customers, I won't be back. read more

Cafe Landwer is a Mediterranean-style restaurant located inside a large mall. We visited right at the start of lunchtime and noticed the restaurant filled up quickly soon after we were seated. Unfortunately, the service was a bit spotty, and it was difficult to flag down a server when we needed assistance. After we ordered, three of the four dishes arrived. When the staff noticed our food was still untouched, they checked in and asked the person without a plate whether they had ordered something. Since we didn't want to start eating without the missing dish, our food sat for a while. About ten minutes later, the fourth plate finally arrived. That said, all of the dishes looked fantastic, my plate in particular was both beautiful and delicious. If not for the service issues, this visit would have been nearly perfect. read more

Came here yesterday because my friend recommended it, and it did not disappoint. My pancakes were great, and although I can't remember the names of the dishes my husband and friends ordered (see pictures), everything they had was also delicious. My drink was really good too. I can't remember the name lol but it had cinnamon, orange, and ginger with a breakfast tea base, and it tasted like Christmas. The service was great as well. We didn't feel rushed at all, and the staff took the time to ask if we had any questions about the menu. They did forget my friend's Benedict at first, but they were very apologetic and made it right as soon as possible. The place itself is very pretty and does get busy as the day goes on. We ordered the plain hummus, spicy rigatoni, pasta verde, basque cheesecake, and a shot of espresso. The hummus and bread were great! Soft and really enjoyable. Both pastas were also tasty and cooked well. Unfortunately, dessert and drinks brought the experience down. The basque cheesecake started good and not too sweet, which I prefer, but I bit into part of a paper film still stuck to the bottom of the cheesecake. The espresso also had a chemical-like taste. I stopped by for dinner recently and had a decent dinner before heading back to shop with my friends. I ordered their famous schnitzel as it sounded pretty good and was one of their more popular items. I was sat down immediately at a table when I walked in and service was friendly and relatively quick. The schnitzel arrived after waiting around 10 minutes and was of a good portion size. The fries were crispy and they were well-cooked. They had some seasoning on them and weren't bland. The schnitzel was crispy and had a good crunch but was a little on the bland side and squeezing the lemon on top definitely helped. It wasn't memorable or anything to write home about. It was a good place to try in the mall but I would go for a different option in the mall if you want something worth more spending on. read more

The meat was cooked very well and tender, though it could have used a bit more seasoning. The salad that came with it was fresh and flavorful. I was initially excited about the almond and sunflower seeds on top, but halfway through they started getting stuck in my teeth, which made it a little less enjoyable. The hummus bowls were excellent and definitely the standout dish for me. The pita was incredibly fluffy and paired perfectly with the hummus. We also tried their famous iced tea with fruit, which was refreshing. One of my colleagues ordered a freshly pressed green apple juice that was very tart, a bit too natural and sharp for our taste. My husband and I went to Cafe Landwer for the first time for lunch yesterday. We got there around 1 PM and it was not that busy. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I liked their decor and you get to choose your seating, assuming if it's not that busy.The only draw back was the bathroom. For the women's bathroom, one stall was out of order and the other was a complete mess but overall our experience was great! I ordered the chicken shawarma pita (not pictured) but the staff had messed up and put in the falafel pita instead. They had communicated to me the mistake, apologized, and said that I could keep both meals. I tried both stuffed pitas and I'm actually glad they messed up because I preferred the falafel over the chicken! They even gave us a dessert on the house which was so sweet. Service was definitely a 10/10 for us! My husband ordered the burger and enjoyed it! For a drink, I got their famous iced tea and wow!! It was so delicious and refreshing. I want to start by saying I am not the type to leave a bad review, but I do think people should be warned about Cafe Landwer. Especially in mall with incredible food options. Don't waste a breakfast, lunch, or dinner eating here. We were seated in a reasonable amount of time. The ambiance seemed nice and the restaurant was clean. The table next to us were seated around five minutes after us and had their order taken before ours. Not terrible, but it gets worse. The waiter comes and we order drinks and entrees as we had been left at the table long enough to review the entire menu. We ordered the short rib shakshuka, breakfast burrito, and fresh squeezed orange juice. The food took about 25 minutes to arrive. The food runner dropped the food off and this was the last time a staff member approached us on their own for the entire meal. The short rib shakshuka's eggs were completely overcooked, as you can see in my photo. I would have loved to bring this to our waiter's attention, but he never spoke another word to us. The breakfast burrito was just fine and the orange juice was delicious. The shakshuka left a lot to be desired, which was disappointing as it is $28. Long after we were ready to leave, we walked to the host and asked for our bill. She awkwardly told us our waiter would bring it out. We said we had not seen him since we placed our order and to please ask him for our bill. A different waiter came with the bill and we informed him we had not seen our waiter our entire meal. He did not seem surprised and asked who our waiter was. I told him we did not know as we had only spoken once to take our order. We paid with the stand in waiter and when he returned with the receipt he said our waiter was DAMIAN A. I will not be eating at Cafe Landwer again. If anyone decides to take a chance on Cafe Landwer, I hope that Damian A is not your waiter. Your order will be prepared wrong and you will have no recourse to correct it as he will ignore you. read more

Went for lunch with my mom on a Thursday. We ordered the chicken thigh skewers and soup of the day, which the waiter said was tomato vegetable. The chicken was really good, super tender and juicy but missing the tahini which I had to chase down another waiter to get. The soup....let's just say I've had enough progresso minestrone in my life to know when I'm served a can of it. Completely identical in ingredients, appearance and taste (actually I think it tastes better when I've heated it myself from the can, but maybe that's because I'm used to paying $2 for it instead of $10). Definitely not what I was expecting in a nice posh airy cafe where most of the dishes looked fresh with somewhat fancy presentation. They could have just said they were out of the soup of the day when I asked what it was, I would have ordered something elseThe chicken was obviously made fresh as was the herb salad, which was fine but a bit heavy handed with the raw green onion. And to be fair I know a lot of restaurants don't make their soup from scratch, but they might want to pick a less recognizable one than canned minestrone. I learned about Cafe Landwer on TikTok actually. The owner has been posting videos about it and that was effective enough for us to try it out!! We got two different types of shakshuka - the serving size was insane!!! I also loved the side salad and pita bread. I got the Halloumi shakshuka which was cheesy and flavorful. I also tried their rich Belgian hot chocolate made with whole milk, which was very indulgent! My friend tried the Turkish coffee which has the grinds in the bottom of the cup. The waitress was super friendly and explained the best way to drink it. One thing I will say is perhaps they were too attentive, if that is even possible to say! I think throughout the course of our 1 hr ish meal we had ~4-6 different staff members approach us asking if we needed anything. I think it was a bit disruptive but I do appreciate that we didn't have to flag anyone down throughout the meal. Thank god we did not settle on eating at the mall food court! Cafe Landwer is located conveniently in the century city westfield mall right by the escalators. There was no wait on the weekend and plenty of tables and booths. We ordered the Sinia Kebob which were beef and lamb. The dish included eggplant, onions, and tomatoes which were roasted. It came on top of a fresh pita bread with a hummus drizzle on top. It was served with a salad on the side. The kebob meat was tender and the veggies had a really toasty flavor to them. I liked the cucumber tomato salad as well, it was refreshing and you can taste the mint. The hot honey pepperoni pizza was delicious! The crust was thin and crispy. There was a cheese pull as well. I loved the hot honey on top of it. Overall, it's a good choice if you need a snack/meal at the mall. I'm usually not impressed by mall food but Cafe Landwer was great! I liked how juicy the beef and lamb kebabs were, the charred veggies and the fresh and crunchy chopped salad on the side. The focaccia presentation was also unique and soaked up everything well. My only critique is the whole dish seemed to be lacking in flavor compared to similar dishes I had at other Mediterranean places. I wish there were stronger flavors. We just ordered the vegan breakfast and the normal herb omelette with a side of turkey bacon. Vegan breakfast costed more than the normal egg one. The website had a larger variety than their in person menu. Our server was friendly and brought out each hot sauce for us. My friend said she should've ordered the pancakes since they looked more aesthetic than the plain omelette. She thought there would be more texture or flavor. The vegan omelette tasted like a waffle. There was some maple syrup undertone. There was carrot and chive mixed in. The guacamole, tomato dip and tahini were yummy. Tahini was whipped and fluffy. Coconut yogurt was unsweetened. Not likely returning for dinner, may try for a brunch if in the mall early enough. The dinner menu was great and many Mediterranean options. Our food was good but it didn't have anything notable or memorable, like the food didn't match the cute diner-like environment we were in. Nothing kinda popped for us. Service was great by one of the two there. I commend our waiter working hard on a somewhat busy evening. I'm going to assume he is new-ish but I recognized him trying as he was helping all tables. His fellow waiter, however, which seemed to be the more leader role as our waiter asked him for questions, did not seem to pull his weight. Never really seen in the hour we were there lol. I also appreciate the back crew serving our food and cleaning after us. Overall, it was an a OK experience, but wanted to try as we've walked past this restaurant so many times in the mall. Tucked in the corner of the century city mall is this Mediterranean spot that we went to for early brunch on a Sunday. Seating and ambiance is chill and I love a good booth. Service was very attentive and prompt. The coffee was rich and smooth. Not too acidic which shows they serve quality coffee. Ordered the breakfast platter, herb omelet and the pancakes. Everything was cooled right and flavorful. The only knock is the guac which tastes a bit fake but honestly I don't eat guac unless it's made fresh so maybe that's something they can work on. Came early for Brunch over the weekend before it was busy and I really wanted to like this place, so I'll start with the positives: the service was genuinely friendly, and the cappuccino was amazing, smooth, rich, and honestly the highlight of the visit. Unfortunately, the food was a major disappointment. I ordered the avocado toast with a side egg over medium, and the egg arrived ice cold and completely overcooked. It was so cold I actually had to spit it out. The toast itself was hearty, but the spread tasted like a pre-made avocado "something" rather than fresh avocado it didn't taste real at all. I managed to eat half of my half-slice and couldn't finish the rest. If a place can't cook and serve a simple hot egg, it's hard to trust the rest of the kitchen. My companion ordered jam and toast and could only eat half because it wasn't good either. I'm especially disappointed because I'd been looking forward to trying Cafe Landwer. The menu is interesting, and I was excited about the Brentwood location opening soon. Sadly, based on this experience, I can't recommend it. I visited this café recently and unfortunately did not have a positive experience. It took about five minutes just to be seated, even though the restaurant wasn't busy.
