    Our goto place after visiting Braehead is here. Just love the food and always a cheery welcome from staff. Recommended

She made excellent suggestions for our mains so we went with the venison, monkfish and lamb. Each was better than the last! Venison melts in your mouth! Monkfish was grilled perfectly and the lamb was pressed and almost like a confit!! Desert was just a awesome!! Raspberry sorbet with lemon tart, chocolate mousse and caramel as well as affagato using brown butter ice creme!! The experience was outstanding and the food was incredible!! Don't forget to get one or two Old Fashioned's from Matt who had been with the restaurant for 30 years!!! Don't miss this wonderful place on a quaint little alley on the west end!!

From the moment you step in, you can tell you're in for something special. The atmosphere is gorgeous -- a bright glass ceiling, lush plants all around, and a rustic stone floor that creates the perfect mix of romantic and relaxed. It feels ideal for a date night but also welcoming for families and friends. The food here is definitely on the high-end side, and while the portions are small for the price, what you're really paying for is excellence. Every bite showcases the chefs' skill, creativity, and attention to detail. The quality and flavor are absolutely superb -- the kind of dining experience you simply won't find anywhere else. We ordered the Pigeon Breast, Bramble, Chicory, Walnut , the Tenderstem Broccoli and the Organic Arran Leaf & Herb Salad with Mustard Vinaigrette, and both dishes completely blew us away. The flavor combinations were thoughtful, unique, and perfectly balanced. This is one of those special spots worth treating yourself to at least once. Whether it's a romantic evening or a celebration with friends, it's an unforgettable dining experience on one of Glasgow's most charming lanes.

The vibe tho is grown up, serene and subdued in the best ways, the cream walls were dotted with beautiful abstract art in shades of grey, there was a large fireplace feature, soothing just audible music, fresh red roses on the table (it was valentines!) linen table cloths. It was beautiful and even though it was jumping it felt like a calm and soothing environment. The staff were exactly what you would expect from a restaurant like the Sister - delightful. They were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the service was fast...probably faster than it normally would be due to the date, having said that I never once felt rushed or harassed - the staff were just sharp and on the ball with clearing plates. The menu at the sisters is like a love letter to Scotland, it was loaded with haggis, black pudding, fish, venison, beef cheeks, clootie dumpling and puff candy. It was like head chef Jackie O'Donnell had stepped into my childhood and brought all those foods into the 21st century. I could very easily have chosen any dish on offer from each course, it's an utterly lush menu. In the end I decided to try the haggis, neeps and tatties to start, I never took pictures of the menu so I forget the exact description of the dish. My first thought upon seeing my dish was wow! There was a puddle of glossy gravy, in the middle was a large haggis cake topped with neeps and a fritter....yes a freakin FRITTER!! I was beside myself as I am sure by now you know how I feel about fritters. The food was utterly gorgeous and without fault, the haggis was tasty and slightly spicy, the neeps were light and creamy, and the fritter was crisp and perfect. Gorgeous! For my main I finally decided on the Chicken breast with Stornoway black pudding, creamed leeks & a red wine jus with a side of Rooster tatties & market vegetables to share. Again visually it was so beautiful to look at. Taste wise it was amazing, the chicken was moist and tender, the creamed leeks still had bite and were seasoned to perfection, the big wedge of black pudding was soft and crumbly, the mash was silky and the red wine jus was lush and decedent. The side was also a triumph - the roasted potatoes were crispy golden nuggets of joy and the veg was incredibly tasty, I even liked the broccoli (I hate broccoli) but I loved however they cooked it. After all that food dessert was touch and go for a while, but there was no way I could leave without trying the Puff candy meringue with honeycomb, ice cream & hot butterscotch sauce. Now lets not kid ourselves this dish it basically a plate of sugar in various forms.....but boy what a plate of sugar it was. The puff candy meringue was light and delicate, the honeycomb was crunchy and sweet and the butterscotch sauce was thick and creamy. This dessert is as good as desserts get. It was a stunning gift from the sugar gods! All in all a pretty exceptional meal and up there with the best I have eaten in Glasgow without question. This is a must try restaurant for me and I will definitely visit again very soon.

    We picked this restaurant because it was down the street from our hotel and it was a great choice…read more There were 4 of us dining; a meat eater, a vegetarian, and 2 pescatarians. We started with drinks. 2 of us had the Joker ipa and the other 2 had the Magners dark fruits cider. 3 of us had the starter of the special soup of the day which was Cauliflower and blue cheese soup. It was so good that I'm going to have to try making it at home. For main course 2 had the Fish and chips. It was light and crisp. The tartare had capers in it which were delicious. The chips were fresh and actually tasted like potato. The Banana blossom was vegan and at first we thought it was meat. It has almost an artichoke like flavor but looks like shredded chicken. It was fried in the same batter as the chips. The meat eater had the Steak sandwich which they said was very tender. The Chips were in a metal container where they stayed hot even after the sandwich was finished. What they found most impressive was the gravy. He doesn't usually like gravy but smothered the chips in it because it was so good. For dessert we had the pavlova which was delicious. The service was wonderful. Everyone was very attentive. I definitely recommend making a reservation in advance which is easy to do online. Prices were very reasonable. We will definitely try and go back before we head back from vacation.

    I'm a little embarassed about how long it's taken me to visit here. Previous incarnations never…read moremanaged to tempt me in, and to be honest it's not the most welcoming building exterior. However, as it's right next to the bus stop on my way home it's a long overdue visit. After walking the 3 minutes from my flat, it was nice to see the 'Dogs welcomed' sign (no, I don't have a dog but it's a good sign for a local pub) and walking in it's a nice space, lots of wood and brick on show. We were given a table and after a quick look at the menu I was heartened to see lots of mention of chorizo! The fare on offer is very much in the burger, pizza and pasta mould but with a few smart twists to make choosing a little more of a challenge. In the end I plumped for the special starter of chorizo, mashed polenta and puy lentils, and it was delicious. The chorizo was the main flavour but worked well with the subtle sweetness of the polenta and the lentils added a nice extra texture underneath everything, the meal was off to a great start. Clare had the black pudding, fried iberico ham and poached egg starter, and not only was it well presented it tasted great (or so I'm told!). Pretty soon after we polished off our starters our pizzas arrived. Stone baked with your own choice of toppings (there are no 'set' pizzas on offer), and my BBQ pulled pork and red onion pizza not only looked great but with a lovely fresh tomato sauce, thin base and a good helping of toppings, the first few bites confirmed what my eyes were telling me. By now I was REALLY regretting not having visited here before now - watching the rack of ribs go past didn't help either, looked great! - and by the time I had finished my pizza I was feeling nicely full, but not stuffed, and enjoyed every bite. Desserts followed, and a wonderful sticky caramel apple tarte tatin, with salted caramel ice cream both appeared promptly and disappeared almost as quickly. A wonderful sweet, caramel sauce, with that kick of bitterness at the edge of the caramel, all sparked with hints of salt from ice cream... deeeelish!! I managed to score some of Clare's dessert, the Chocolate Trio but it was very heavy, although packed full of flavour, but don't think I'd try it next time. Oh yes, there will be a next time. The service was good, the prices look a little on the high side on the menu, but the food was good and overall I was more impressed than I thought I would be. GWR is in a funny location, right next to Gartnavel Hospital and as I said, it doesn't look particularly inviting but if you are in the area, or just passing, it's definitely worth a visit. Even if it's just for a quick drink, there is a good selection of fine ales and a well stocked bar.

Legend has it that the Pie is SO good, folk even get it to take away. There's a Sunday Pub Quiz, Saturday DJ, and sport on the big screens. So why folk want a takeaway is a mystery to me!

    Whuppity Scourie formerly Jade's formerly Bridgewater Tavern has changed Management A LOT…read more However, the revamped Whuppity Scourie is a very welcome change. Recently refurbished, they have split the main bar away from the Bistro to allow children to enter and reduce the noise. Good plan! The menu has been overhauled and they don't have as many dishes on the menu as before which is a lot better for the kitchen ensuring quality over quantity. I ordered King Prawns with Calamari, my mom Haggis Fritters and my sister in law Black Pudding in Breadcrumbs with a Chilli Sauce. No complaints. They were tasty and well presented. We then ordered Balmoral Chicken, Fish & Chips and a Chicken Burger. Portions are extremely good for the price, food was cooked fresh to order and of a good quality. There was only 1 staff member within the bistro when I was in looking after 4 tables, which was okay but we did have to wait at times to be served; not her fault though. The dishes are a little expensive for a Bar Bistro in Erskine, but you'd expect to pay more if you dined in Glasgow for the quality and size of the portions. Our bill for 2 courses and numerous drinks for 3 people came to around £56. Not THAT bad when you think of it. All in all, the Whuppity Scourie is much better than it's predecessors and I hope it's hear to stay.
