We ate here when we were staying at the Premier Inn next door. Without wanting to sound like a food snob, I've never been to a carvery place before and I wouldn't have chosen it if it hadn't been the only choice.
The two stars are because it was cheap and the staff were friendly. Apart from that, I can't find much to compliment it on. The carvery is four massive joints of meat sitting out under lights and you get a single slice of each. The turkey was dry as anything but the others were better. The serving guy doesn't pile the meat up on one side of your plate to leave room for veggies though, he lays it all out across the plate, a single slice thick. As the plate is cold, this immediately cools down the food and by the time you add your veggies and get back to your seat, you have a plate of cold meat. The veggie selection was good but everything I tried was overcooked or soggy, especially the broccoli.
Had it even all just been hotter, it would have been a lot better, but it was one of the worst plates of food I've ever paid for. The only saving grace was that it was under £6. The two mains (Him Indoors supersized his main course for an extra £1.50), two desserts (better than the mains although they gave Him Indoors the wrong crumble), a large glass of red wine, a pint of Stella and two coffees came to under £30.
Unless you really don't have time to get in your car and go find somewhere else to eat, I wouldn't recommend it here. But if you have no other choice, at least it's cheap. read more
