Blue Moon reserve wine
Danielle B.

My Tobin James review is a few years too late but I'm happy to give it! lol my first time here was 2019 on a girls trip and then with the hubby this past December 2025. Both times I really enjoyed myself( I mean with great wine how can you not??) We didn't make reservations but was able to do a walk in and were at one of the bars. Our hostess was super cool and asked us some questions beforehand to see what kind of wines we liked to get an idea of what she would pour for us. Our faves were the liquid love, james gang reserve, fat boy, the table red wine and the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon. They had chocolate truffles to try at the time which paired perfectly with the wine as well. Overall it just felt like a a fun place to just relax and enjoy yourself. We ended buying the james gang reserve and table red wine for home. Will definitely be back when we are in the area!

With all the countless wineries/vineyards all over the central coast, we always make it a point to visit at least a new one (or two) on our bi-annual trips back to Paso Robles. This place had always caught my eye whenever we drove into town because of it's Western/Cali-country fascade (and vibe) that I love! Their website said, "walk-ins welcomed, but reservations encouraged", so my husband and I took a chance they could accommodate us for a tasting (without a reservation), and they kindly did! Welcomed by Blake, who was behind the beautiful bar! He was great and made our first time tasting there a wonderful experience. We even got to sample a grape from their vineyard, which was absolutely delicious and sweet! Needless to say, their Cab was my favorite (and we left there with 3 bottles...LOL!). Looked like they were prepping for an event that evening. We explored their beautiful property, and I was in awe at the stone fireplace, pizza oven, and western decor throughout. All in all, we had a fun time! Thanks again for accomodating us! CHEERS till next time...

Our experience at Tobin James was outstanding! This was our first wine tasting experience of our holiday weekend and it could not have been better. The vibe was super cool and very cowboy outpost. Our tasting guide, Dakota, took GREAT care of us and was incredibly accommodating. She had amazing recommendations and was super informed about each and every wine. Their tasting room was pretty packed due to the holiday, but the staff did an excellent job being attentive to every guest. We will definitely be back!

Charlene provided exceptional service during my tasting experience here. She offered immaculate wine recommendations and was friendly and conversational throughout my visit. I highly recommend this winery and her for your wine needs and desires!

Always fun to visit Tobin. They are generous with their tastings. We have a membership and have tried many of their wines but there were a lot of pleasant surprises this visit. Everything was great! We had a case of our favorites shipped home and will be waiting on our return. If you enjoy good tasting wine stop here and try them out.

Tobin James! Hospitality here is unmatched warm, fun, and with a local flair that makes out-of-towners feel like regulars. Ask for Richard, he's hilarious and makes the whole experience unforgettable. The entire team is welcoming, and the extras seal the deal: sopresa from the fridge, Pozo toffee, chocolate cherries, and that hot pepper bacon jam (a must-try!). Great tunes, amazing outdoor Jamaican food, and flawless hosting for our group of 11 girlfriends. We'll be back! thank you, Richard and team!

Great area. Lots of fun. Spectacular staff! Wonderful experience. My girl had a blast enjoying the scenery and nothing like a little buzz to enjoy the sun set. The drink was delicious and the breadsticks saved us from catching too much of a buzz. They have transportation @ extra cost to enjoy your buzz responsibly

Our first stop of our Paso Robles weekend and DONNA started our weekend right! Great wines - and again, Donna made it so much fun taking us on the "cab ride". Went home with the Private Stash. We will be back.

Excellent and fun wine tasting experience with our tasting Gide, Gaetano! We got to try MANY different wines and he was a hoot! Very knowledgeable and entertaining. Everyone working there appears to be really having a good time. I've been told by friends that the Paso Robles region produces their favorite red wines. This was our only stop but will agree based upon this. The tasting room and wine shop is spacious and well appointed. We stood at the bar for our tasting but there are seats and tables too.

Tobin James is the ABSOLUTE BEST! Kind staff, delicious wine and a connection to people that is next level!! You need to join!!!!

The BEST! So many awesome people representing amazing wine!!! The vibe of the place is relaxed and fun!

Every time we pass Paso, we always have to stop by and get a few cases of wine. We've gone here many times that we finally decided to become members. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. They even let our son come in and have non alcoholic champagne. Nothing but good vibes and good drinks and good conversations. We definitely recommend stopping by if you're not sure which place to try.

Well we did it. We visited Tobin James Winery and Blake did not disappoint. He was very welcoming and had a wonderful personality with charm added. He was most generous with the requested pours and wanted to show us all around the making of the wines. With our reservation he had a couple of cheese trays as we were special guests visiting. The tasting room is beautiful with gorgeous woodwork and many items that make a tasting room welcoming. Blake made the whole experience of wine tasting fun!

Yes it was noisy and like a bar. Tobin himself actually poured for us! Was a surprise we didn't expect.

It's 16,000 square feet of underground tunnels. As one of the few spots offering complimentary tastings to our complete surprise! This winery is a hidden gem. We loved the selection so much we had to pick up a few bottles for home! Overall Great wines, beautiful views & amazing service! Definitely going back!

Let me preface this with this - I rarely write reviews, and never have had to write a bad one…read moresadly. I believe sometimes companies have off days, and employees may have a bad day, which can affect one's experience, thus I dont let one bad experience ruin a company's review. But when it comes to my CHILD, you best believe i will never forgive and forget or let our experience be forgotten. We visited this winery expecting a relaxing, family-friendly experience and instead left with our daughter crying after being scratched in the face near her eye by the owner's off-leash dog. What makes this especially frustrating is that the winery's own rules state dogs must be leashed, yet the owners' dogs were roaming the property freely. Our daughter was calmly petting one of the dogs with me standing directly beside her when the dog suddenly growled and scratched her across the face. This was completely unprovoked and witnessed by the owner himself, who said absolutely nothing afterward. No apology, no concern, no accountability. An employee later approached us and said, "Sorry, he's old and maybe didn't like that she was the same height as him, which made him react".....which felt less like accountability and more like an absurd attempt to excuse why a reactive dog was allowed to roam off leash around guests and children. We also observed the dogs behaving territorially toward other leashed dogs on the property, making it even more inappropriate that they were allowed off leash in a public setting. My father-in-law is a VERY well known, well respected, and prominent winemaker in Virginia and across the United States, if you know anything about wine, you know him. So lets say, we understand winery culture and hospitality, fairly well. Had something like this happened on his property, it would have been handled immediately and professionally with genuine concern for the injured guest.....especially a child. Watching the owner casually continue on in his conversation with whomever, and pet the dog like nothing happened while our daughter screamed and cried was honestly unbelievable. In my opinion, not worth the visit for the subpar wine, if you want to take your children/dog somewhere. The poodles were friendly to me, and other adults, until we saw their behavior to other dogs & then my child....The complete lack of concern from ownership after a child was injured was shocking. Frankly, they are fortunate we chose not to escalate the situation further. Parents should absolutely be cautious visiting here with children or pets. An off-leash dog with territorial behavior has no place interacting freely with guests. Absolutely shocked and the owner should be ashamed of his actions & response (or lack there of) to the situation.

I am a nobody. Sure, I am a longtime Wine Society member, but I don't expect a Michelin Star restaurant and one of Forbes best places in the world to remember me. They didn't know me; but it didn't matter Justin Winery and Restaurant, treated my party fantastic! Service was excellent. Food was great. Wine was superb. The tasting went slightly off list, which was welcomed with the heat. Lovely white wines to start off, which lead into the bold reds. 10 out of 10 atmosphere. 10 out of 10 for service. 10 out of 10 for food. Wine was a solid 93 average. IYKYK

The people there care for your experience and every wine you taste is great and doesn't change with every sip. This place mostly was focused on extracting money. I went there because they were recommended by so many friends to me. That's probably where they are lucky. That's why people visit them and because they are so hyped the person visiting has to also like them. The employees here are not motivated enough to be nice or attend the guests properly during the end of the day. The lady on the front desk in front of the entry was super rude. In a 3 mins conversation she mentioned at least 4 times how they were about to close and they are unable to provide us anything except the wine tasting. We had an appointment for 3:30 and the winery closes at 5:00. I would have understood if it was 4:30. I was celebrating my birthday and I mentioned it. It literally meant nothing to her and she never mentioned it in her notes while she mentioned that they will do a chocolate flight with a candle. The guy who helped us with our wine tasting was good but visibly tired. He tried his best. Even arranged a charcuterie board for us. He did mention they were about to close but that made sense. He was genuinely happy to see us when we went inside to pay. The only good deed done to us was asking us if we needed waters for the road. Also I liked the breezy fan feature. The wines are not very appealing. A lot better can be done with the taste, recipes and fermentation process. The prices are very high for the experience and the wines. Next day we went to another winery with Amazing views. They were so welcoming and warm and the moment I mentioned I was celebrating my birthday they were extra pampering. There wine flights were appropriately priced.Every wine we tasted was great and even after my wine purchase I did not feel robbed. That was some unforgettable experience. At Justin our experience was DULL and TIRING and not good at all. I am never going to recommend Justin to anyone. PS- Don't go there because people are mentioning it the moment they hear Paso Robles. There wines are no better than the wines you get at the medium shelf of the drugstore. Views are just OK. Use your money at a better winery.

I explained I had been to a few other wineries on the San Miguel side and he said, you know, we're part of the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail (13 wineries on the San Miguel side). I didn't even know about that, but come to find out some of the wineries I previously visited were part of the trail. I was thankful to Pedro for this, as it helped me plan out the rest of that day on the trail. This particular trip to Paso was a few days before the Labor Day holiday weekend. I wanted to get away, but also wanted to be as safe as possible, by going at a time where I felt there would be fewer people. In the morning a few hours before my visit, Vicky called to confirm my appointment. I appreciated that and I'm sure she did too. Vino Vargas is on the far end of the trail, so it's a little bit of the beaten path, but so worth it. Because appointments are highly recommended during this time of COVID, I happened to be fortunate enough to be the only one at the winery at that time. It was such a great experience. I was able to have a great (socially distanced) conversation with Vicky. Learned so much about her and Pedro's wine-making journey, and the wines they make. I suspect it's not something that would happen with much regularity on any non-COVID style scenario where tasting rooms are typically full or busy. The wines were also delicious. I'm not much of a white wine drinker, so I passed on that option on the tasting menu and went straight for the reds. I wound up buying four bottles - 2017 Toro Tinto Tempranillo, 2016 Rio Ruso Pinot Noir, 2017 El Taxi Cabernet, and Paso Rosa Rosé Dessert Wine. I was very luck to have gotten one of the very last bottles of the Paso Rosa and I was thrilled, because it is absolutely delicious. If you can make Vino Vargas part of your Paso Robles adventure, I would highly recommend it. Pedro and Vicky are the nicest and so love what they do. Their wines speak so much about the care they take in making them.
