I went here last night and although the food was good i noticed many things that did not line up with covid safety policies 1. The tables were not cleaned while we were there, the people in front of us left and the server sat another pair of guests there without even cleaning the table which leads me to believe the tables are not cleaned after every use 2. The server took menus from the guests in front of us and then proceeded to give us the same menus right after without even cleaning them 3. The server sounded slightly ill and if someone is sick they probably should not be coming to work considering the circumstances Another thing that really bothered me was that it took the restaurant almost and hour to give us our second round of sushi, and during our whole time there which took over 2 hours bc the service was that slow, we saw the server maybe 4 times? I have to admit, I was really afraid to eat here... to the point where I thought they might spit in my food and shove a plate of garbage in my face. Why? The Yelp reviews are terrible! Honestly, the reviews really don't do this place justice. Not only won't they spit in your food here... they'll give you a great deal and friendly service... and the food is delicious! I highly recommend reading my good friend, Josh G.'s review as well, since we ventured here on the same day for a 30th birthday party (and his level of detail in reviews puts most of us YE to shame). As I mentioned, we came to Tobiko because a mutual friend wanted to have her 30th birthday here. She had organized for a reservation of about 30 of us for dinner and arranged for us all to sample the all-you-can-eat menu ($19 value). What I LOVE about this menu is that you truly can order anything you want and as much as you want for $19! That's an absolute steal considering that the menu includes soups, salads, appetizers, sushi, rolls, entrees and desserts. The only thing it doesn't include is alcohol, but that's certainly understandable. When you do order from the all-you-can-eat menu, there are a few rules you must follow. They print them very clearly on the front, and it was the one reason I was skeptical about ordering from this option. First is no sharing (that's fair... can't have a 2-for-1 deal when you're ordering anything you want from the kitchen in any quantity). Second is no take out bag (also understandable). Third is the time limit of 2 hours (ok... also fair). Fourth is that an extra charge might apply if you don't finish your food (honestly this one I don't particularly care for... if something tastes off or disgusting, I wouldn't want to be charged extra for not finishing). Nevertheless, none of us received a charge for leaving a little bit of food on our plates, and honestly most of us finished everything anyway because the food was delicious! In my case, I sampled the salad, California roll, Snow Mountain roll (sounds like it should be a Disney ride), chicken teriyaki, and chocolate ice cream for dessert. Everything was spectacular! The sushi was much better than I expected after reading the reviews for this place (fresh and satisfying) and the chicken teriyaki was also fantastic. Had I had a larger appetite (shouldn't have had that big lunch), I would have loved to sample more. Fortunately, I now have an incentive to come back here and sample even more food. Everybody else in our party loved the sushi and entrees as wel. The staff was also very friendly! Again, I was surprised after reading those awful reviews, but everybody was very friendly, especially our head server (we had about 3 people helping our large table). They usually give good service and when I come here I always sit in the restaurant to get half off sushi. So unfortunately, my wife, sister in law, and her boyfriend wanted sushi and we decided to go to Tobiko. I promise this review is worth the read. The 4 of us and my 1 year old daughter sit down and order the $17.99 AYCE. They denied my 1 year old daughter free AYCE because she's over 30 inches tall. Gonna have to blame my genes on that one... Anyway, we ordered a bunch of stuff. Rolls, rice, noodles, etc. A ton of stuff. We also ordered this one chicken and lettuce wrap thing. We literally ate everything except this chicken and lettuce order that tasted absolutely awful. At the end of our order, we ordered ice cream. The elderly waitress comes over and starts yelling at us, putting this sign in our face saying that we have to pay for the chicken and lettuce cause we didn't eat it. Totally rude, no calm in this woman at all. We told her to bring the manager over. The Manager, Oscar, told us to read the sign and we had to pay for it. I told him to call the cops cause I'm not paying for it. This dude REALLY called the cops over a small bowl of chicken and lettuce. Times are tough, blame Trump right??? Anyway, the cops come, get both sides, and go back to Oscar. The cop literally said to the manager "You know this is ridiculous right?". The cops sided with us, and told them at this point it's a civil dispute. I can't say I'd be surprised if the restaurant really tried to sue me over a $5 bowl of chicken that tasted terrible. The manager even told the cops that this is an ongoing problem with their restaurant. Since there is nothing on these signs that say the customer is responsible if they don't like the food, the cops recommended they probably remove AYCE, or update their policy properly. The guys that worked at the restaurant that bring out the food were so apologetic. They said that they were sorry, but they had to tell management because if they didn't, management would TAKE THE MONEY OUT OF THEIR PAYCHECKS. Are you kidding me? Our first experience at Tobiko inspired me to finally get back to writing online reviews. Here is the skinny on all you can eat sushi in the Brooklyn Queens area. Tobiko counts, even if it is just outside of Queens. This place had unbelievable sashimi. It was fresh, thickly cut, and great quality fish. Their rolls, however, almost all seem to be deep fried combinations of the same ingredients in different ways. That's an obvious trick to get you full faster, which I can understand as a fellow business owner, but I'm a rolls guy and my wife is a sashimi woman, so she was happier than I was. The service was very friendly across the board, and we had three different women rotate through our table in our two hours. Unfortunately, like many are you can eat sushi places, they forgot a few of our rolls and left us hanging a lot even though there was nobody there at 4 PM. We were eating at the senior citizen hour, ha ha. We will definitely come back. But I would probably put this place in third behind the other two. The waiter came over and told us "first finish, then check." We assumed he thought we meant to bring us the check once we cleared out plates. My first time at an actual sushi bar and the experience was a good one. I tried this place on the recommendation of some friends who frequent this place often and I must say I wasn't disappointed at all. There was plenty of seating and the place was pretty crowded, and most importantly my girlfriend and I were able to have a nice conversation without having the table next to us involved in it, one thing I can't stand is going to a restaurant that tries to pack the place out without regard to the comfort of it's patrons. I'm still somewhat of a sushi neophyte but from what I could tell you'd be able to get anything you'd desire at a sushi bar and my choice on this visit was the Angry Dragon which consisted of crab tempura, shrimp tempura and spicy tuna with sweet plum sauce and I washed it all down with my favorite beer in the world Sapporo! The meal was not overly filling yet VERY satisfying and easy on the pocket. They take all major credit cards and cash. They also have take out for those on the go. I had asked for a salmon avocado and the salmon was brown, I asked the waitress to remove it from my plate that the salmon was bad.
