All about the toasted sandwich. Every type is here. Nice layout and really the place to go if you feel like a toasted sandwich.

Mucho Burrito

Mucho Burrito

This place has only recently popped up on North Street and makes a right nice little stop off on…read moreyour lunch from work. I suitably devoured this chorizo burrito in seconds after sitting for a solid 10 minutes complimenting the sheer weight of the thing. Gotta say, it's not quite La Choza (a nearby burrito haven) but it's great if you're on the go. Myself and a pal called it 'subway for burritos' you just rock up, pick your fillings and chug it back to your table ready to devour. I wish I noticed they sell beer too, I got enviably jealous having not seen that they stock coronas, that I kept giving fellow customers the evil eye! The chorizo was a rather strange 'shredded pork' kinda concoction that initially didn't sit well with me, but once the lashings of guacamole & sour cream were on, I was as content as a lamb. I'm giving this place a 3/5 mainly because I wasn't used of the set up - the whole experience made me feel a little dumb because I had to ask the cashier what every single filling was (God bless his patience!) but I think if I was to return again and try the triple tacos (my pal got them, they looked AMAZING) I'd probably give the place a 4. Definitely worth a try if you're into your Mexican!

I am eternally on the search for a really mouth-watering burrito in Brighton, so when I had the…read moreopportunity to try out this place with a few friends over lunch I was very excited. The system is very Subway-esque in here, as most takeaway burrito places are, with an friendly member of staff waiting to take your order and build you a custom burrito right in front of your very eyes. I would advise taking a long peek at the menu before you get started with this, because once you engage, the server will start moving at the speed of light, talking so quickly that all you can do is nod and hope for the best. This can be a little off-putting, yes, but luckily it does mean the service is fast and, let's be honest, is there anything that you wouldn't say a confident yes to anyway? Cheese? Yes. Beans? Yes. Guacamole for an extra whatever pence? Yes. Yes please. I opted for the chicken filling which I regretted as soon as I saw it being scooped up and aimed at my prime tortilla. Whilst the other fillings were shredded and looked as if they had been soaking in flavours for hours, my chicken was cubed and looked a little parched. Too late though. The show must go on. Everything else was met with an uncertain nod of my head and, hey presto!, my burrito was ready to go - tucked snugly into it's little tinfoil blanket. As always, I wanted this to be the one. It was massive, it looked amazing and it was a pretty fine looking burrito, at the end of the day. It had all the ingredients to amaze me, and yet sadly it did not. Whether I was thrown by the cubed chicken, or put off by the fact that by the time you had reached the half-way mark the burrito had cooled to an unpleasant temperature, this burrito did not blow my mind. The flavours were good, just not great. I even treated myself to a 'spicy chocolate brownie' in the hope of redeeming my meal, but it too was a bit of a let-down. It was very original - with spicy flavours and a crumble topping - but in many ways it actually didn't taste like a brownie because of these traits and when I order a brownie, it's usually a brownie that I'm after. I'd like to leave this review clarifying that the food here is good - it's fresh, it tastes nice and you certainly can't fault them on the portion sizes! It's not won me over as the best burrito in Brighton - that's still out there somewhere, waiting to be discovered, but it was certainly not a negative experience for me. I will return, probably more than once, to try out their other dishes and sample what I image is good, tasty and fast Mexican food.

Foodilic - Main + 3 salads (vegan)

Really great spot for healthier salads with copious options. I stopped in for lunch one day, and…read moregot their 1 main + 3 salads (£11.50 for eat in, £10.50 for take away). They had about 10 salads to choose from, most of which were vegan, and a bunch of mains, two of which were vegan. For the main, I got a decadent butter bean dish that was wonderfully flavoured, albeit quite oily. The salads were all quite intensely flavoured too, with a broccoli salad that had a nicely horseradish-dominant dressing, a tomato and bell pepper salad that was nicely dressed, and roasted sweet potatoes. Very filling and good value. I was really happy with the food. I capped off the meal with an American (£2.40), which was definitely above average for UK -- seems like the place is run by Italians, so that might be it. Super friendly and helpful staff who kindly pointed out everything that was vegan. All in all, highly recommended spot near the centre and beach.

I walked past and happened to notice the sign out the front advertising an all you can eat lunch for £6.95 per person. If that wasn't enough of an arm twister, the food on display in the window looked AMAZING! Today's hot menu offerings were vegetable soup, beef goulash, vege moussaka and Caribbean chicken drumsticks with mash or rice. And then a gorgeous array of 7 fresh salads to compliment your meal. Fresh, fast and tasty! This quiet and cosy restaurant had super lovely staff, and the food was just fantastic. Great little spot for lunch on North Street.

I hate leaving bad reviews but I am worried someone might DIE here…read more I ordered a whisky and after sitting down noticed it had fruit flies in it. I went back to the bartender and he apologized and then offered me another drink. I looked at multiple bottles and ALL of them had flies. I said they needed to throw them away and I would just take a beer. He gave me a beer free and then went outside to hang with my friend. I then watched him pour the bottles through a strainer and then back into the bottles. Not only did they never rinse the glass but didn't rinse the strainer that had the flies in it. So - Do NOT drink any whisky in this place. In fact don't drink any hard liquor in this place. Other bottles had flies but didn't see them "recycling" them. Bartender was very nice and amicable but this place should be shut down. Someone will get sick. No idea if they clean their beer lines or not but just stay away.

I went here after seeing Kings of Leon and Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds earlier this year and noticed lots of other people from the shows wander in. The staff are friendly, the bar stock everything from Guiness and ale to quality spirits and the atmosphere is warm and bustling. There's clusters of wooden chairs and tables and a window seat where you can watch the world go by or strike up conversations with - equally intoxicated - locals.

Firstly, the people that work here are totally awesome - very chatty and genuine - just the kind of people that you enjoy giving business to. I had a green smoothie and a chicken Bibimbap to go. The smoothie was very green indeed! I loved it, but be warned - this tasted like veggies. It's not one of those healthy smoothies that hides behind sweet, fruity tastes - it fully embraces it's healthiness, rocking the broccoli and spinach unashamedly, so if you don't like your smoothie to taste to 'green' then this one isn't for you! They have plenty of tasty options, so perhaps go for one of the other smoothies insetead! As for the chicken Bibimbap (which I horrendously mispronounced, might I add) this was very tasty! I'd never really had this sort of thing before, so it took me a few minutes to get used to the flavours, but once I got past that it was a very good take-away meal. The portion was massive and they'd packaged it all up really nicely, making it easy to take to a park and eat in the sun without any bother or mess. There were so many other things that I would have happily tried in here! They had amazing looking fresh sushi up for grabs which, though a little pricier than elsewhere, did look rather great. I'm sure that I'll be back here! Next time you're walking past, pop in and see what you think! :)

Including the desserts. I loved it so much that I excitedly tweeted to them that I would singlehandedly keep a restaurant open in Brighton. And they replied to me telling me to wait. Well... the wait is over! Today I was invited to the opening of the new Leon Restaurant in Brighton which replaces Eat. I think this is a brilliant swap as Eat was far too similar to its neighbour Pret. But Leon is quite different in that it offers warm, hearty food. Setting up just before winter is also probably a good move. The decor is really nice and chilled out. They make good use of the space which I've previously found a bit dark and claustrophobic. Katy and I were greeted by some of the nice workers at Leon and told we could each choose a meal and drink to have on the house. We both went for the Moroccan Meatballs (on my recommendation). I had a lemonade to drink and Katy went for a green smoothie. We also picked up a few sweet treats: my favourite lemon and ginger slice and a billionaire shortbread for Katy. The meatballs are my favourite so I knew I would like them, but Katy had never been to a Leon and she loved it as well. She began talking about how close it is to her work and how she will be able to pop in on breaks for a relatively healthy and warm meal. We also tried searching for the menu online and a sneaky link to Deliveroo popped up. So we're hoping they're going to be one of our delivery options soon.
