The coffee is alright and its quite cheap, so it can be a bit of a life saver. Again, the sandwiches aren't anything too special, but they're handmade and go into the belly without too much fuss. Best though, they are cheap. £2.20 for Egg, Ham and £1.75 for a pizza slice.

They had a whole board describing latkes so I ordered a Cheese and Chorizo Latke. The staff was friendly, heated it up, and put it in-between two plates and in a bag for me. My first reaction was wow, this latke is heavy! Unlike the ones I'm used to, this latke was super dense and not crispy. For just £3.25, I was too full for lunch. I liked that there was filling in the latke, but it was a bit bland and overly oily (though let's be real, when are latkes not super oily?), and it felt like I consumed an unnecessary amount of empty calories (correction: I did, not that I have any regrets). Although I wasn't blown away, Hells Kitchen had a ton of lunch options and is a solid spot with super reasonable prices.

I've probably eaten in here about 30 times over the past couple of years and the standard of the food is consistently good! My favourites are the Welsh rarebit which comes with an egg on top, great for veggies! The scrambled egg on toast, jacket potatoes, toasties, full English are all good choices too whether you are coming here for breakfast, a late brunch or lunch. Fresh orange juice is squeezed in front of you and is a good choice too. Friendly chef and waitress and a real home from home kinda feel. You can't go wrong with an all day breakfast place for those more delicate feeling weekends!

Preston Park Delicatessen is a short bus ride or long walk out of central Brighton, but worth it…read morefor the foodies among us. If you live in Preston Park and haven't yet discovered it, it could well become your weekend treat as it became mine. It comprises a well stocked deli counter, organic dry goods shop and organic butcher. The butcher himself, aside from being the only vegetarian butcher I've ever heard of, is friendly, approachable and willing to discuss your culinary intentions. As a former vegetarian still fairly shy of cooking meat, he was an invaluable fount of information, particularly on which cuts to try, which I found a complete minefield at first. The deli also stocks a good variety of other organic goodies and allergy aware foods such as gluten free pasta. Their takeaway coffee is inexpensive and lovely and their almond croissants taste deliciously home-made, making the perfect Sunday morning treat to take over to the park. It's worth avoiding school lunch hour though, as it's understandably a popular choice with the pupils of Dorothy Stringer and gets absolutely packed out from 12.30 - 2pm. Catering to this rush of lunchtime business, they have introduced a small hot lunch menu which they do really well - organic burgers and pizza slices etc. If you brave the school rush, you too can gorge on junk food with a halo. Altogether, it's worth a visit, perhaps as an accessory to a day in Preston Park - it's a more enticing choice than fighting through the hordes at the cafe in the centre.

The restaurant is downstairs from the hotel but looks out onto ground level, (phew). The interior walls are adorned with artwork that adds to the Parisian vibe their going for. The decor is pretty swish with a window box, leather clad seats and a long cushioned bench. The menu is proper French A La Carte so do not be asking for burgers and chips. The bistro offers Duck Confit, Braised Lamb Shank, Smoked Fish Platter.... i think you get the idea. As usual being a massive cheese fiend i went for the Baked Camembert with Truffle Oil (OMG) and Brie, Goats and Broccoli Rosti (OMG OMG). Both were absolutely fantastic. Great for a first date, not so great for small children. Its not as scarily priced as you might think with the most expensive main at £13 when i went. They also sometimeS do a mid week deal of 3 courses for £14.50, which cant be bad can it?

Housed in the the New Steine Hotel, it wouldn't be an obvious choice either but I'm lucky someone filled me in. The decor is very continental, with banquette seating, crisp linens and soft furnishings adding to the feeling of luxury. Ever the bargain hunter, I generally visit here during the week when you can enjoy a 2 course meal for £12.50, although at the weekends it is only an additional £4. For the quality of dishes they offer this is a remarkable price I might add. Inventive dishes like Skate Wing and Chorizo Salad or Duck Confit (on a bed of lentils and pancetta) are presented with flair and precision and the waiters sweep dishes and fill glasses with minimal disturbance. No wonder this bistro has won the AA Breakfast and Dinner Award for outstanding quality and service. Book now.

I recommend the Oseta's House, a delightful dish of scrambled egg with halloumi, tomato, and spinach... it really is to die for! Coffee is good (to this writer's taste buds anyway, but I'm no coffee aficionado) and there are plenty of other choices on the drinks menu.
