    Bagel
    Mango M.

Toasted in Northampton Ma. Used to be the old beloved Sylvester's. Second time here. Second time feeling like the food was very mediocre. On the menu it says they make their own gravlox. They also offer bagels which the server said was nothing special. I thought I'd take a chance I asked for a bagel with cream cheese, lox, red onion, capers, etc. pretty traditional. As you can see from the picture, it's a little tiny bits of tomato like from salsa... And long strings of onion, etc. etc. so traditional bagel and lox is a thin round slice of onion and of course a slice of tomato, etc. the lox was nothing special. It actually was quite fishy and was hard to get down. Bagel was kind of like a lender's bagel... I don't think I'll be coming back here. The service was awesome. The young man who served me was friendly and upbeat. Has anyone else tried this place?

Really delicious breakfast! Busy on weekends but loved the mimosas got blueberry lavender, mango, and grapefruit juice to add! Quick service once we got in. Old Sylvester's sign up, love it!

strawberry lemonade they gave you a bottle so you pour as u like. ! And if you don't finish it you can take it home

the place was nice they had a bar the vibe was very relaxed . The French toast was my favorite & the waitress was super nice probably wouldn't come here again though .it did take a couple min for them to come to us while some people walked in after us and the waitress came up to them super fast .this was our first time here but nothing to special about this place that'll make you come again the eggs wasn't good at all I'm not sure if it was the cheese that made it horrible but if you look at the picture it looks like way to much ! Doesn't even look edible . On the other hand if you looking for a good strong mimosas. she only had 1 but makes you feel very good

Bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs and white toast. Crispy!

The place looks great and the food is exceptional. The best part of our visit today was the incredible service by Kerri and Nathan!

There were also no bones, which was great, though I wish there was some sort of dressing or more oil and salt in the sandwich. The fish itself was plump and substantial, and the veggies tasted fresh. The bread was also hearty, but it felt like it was missing something, maybe acid or fat. Oil or lemon would have been a nice addition, but it was still a solid meal for an afternoon of walking. The staff was also very friendly, and the restaurant inside was nice and cozy. Though we didn't eat inside, I did notice that the air conditioner wasn't quite working and it was a bit warm inside, but it didn't affect us so much since we ordered to go. They also had a nice display of desserts at the register that I'd love to try on another trip back here!

This means, that the coffee you get here is going to be Catalpa roasted beans, but with a higher selection of "fancy" pastries. (The apricot croissant I had was very very delicious. ) I do not love Catalpa espresso as much as Shelburne Falls coffee, because it has a very sweet taste with a bitter finish, I prefer something that is more of an earthy or mellow light roast. Just smelling the ground coffee makes you think of something flowery and sharp. They have limited breakfast sandwiches and a few drink specials that remind me of what they have over at Catalpa . Unfortunately, because all three stores are linked, that means none of them have soy milk anymore, which is my go to espresso add-in. It is even still on the sign at the counter. The staff is friendly, and it's at a nice spot near where Shelburne Falls used to be. Their main advertisement is their croissant, so four stars for having a super delicious croissant. For not having any seating, and advertising soy milk and having any, one star deduction.

Got an almond croissant and it was very dark on the bottom - so disappointed. Cookies were good but expensive. They used to have such a variety of pastries and other baked goods. Now, it is hit or miss. Whomever is baking the croissants needs some training. Got a spinach feta croissant which used to be a favorite of ours, but was almost black on the bottom/inedible. Looked ok in the case. So sad this bakery no longer lives up to the standards it set in the past.

And it was all so incredibly delicious. Props to the chef, hands down. I opted for the high tops when making the 8:00P reservation and it was still busy at that time which was great for them. I do wish I'd have known the size of their high top as I might have chosen a different table but it was still great. Our server was very nice, I wish I remembered her name! We got there around 1:40 p.m. and they closed at 2, so my friend was a little worried, but we were still welcomed and the staff was very friendly. It's a small place, but I actually liked that it felt cozy. We ordered 12 oysters, two orders of gumbo, a kale Caesar salad, the catfish special to split, and a bourbon-based drink. The oysters were $2 each, which I thought was a pretty good deal. The gumbo was really, really good. It came out a little lukewarm, but the flavor was absolutely there 10/10. The oysters were fresh and also 10/10. The bourbon drink was another standout. The presentation was beautiful, the little flower was such a nice touch, and it tasted just as good as it looked. The kale Caesar was where things dipped a little. It was pretty dry, so we asked for extra dressing, but the dressing didn't really add much flavor. When our waitress checked in, we were honest and said it just wasn't our favorite. I hate sending food back or complaining. I'll usually just stop eating it but she was so kind and apologetic. What really stood out was how they handled it. They told us they were taking the salad off the bill, which they absolutely did not have to do. We had planned to just take the one we had already eaten from home and fix it ourselves, but one of the staff members made us a completely new salad to go. She even massaged the kale so it was actually tender and enjoyable. That was such a thoughtful touch. The catfish was a hit for my friend. It wasn't my favorite, but I still ate it. Overall, I would definitely come back. Next time I'd probably keep it simple; oysters, gumbo, and a drink and I'd be happy. The service was phenomenal, and honestly, service really makes a place. Feeling welcomed and comfortable matters, and this place absolutely gave that.
