Located on a lovely quaint street not far off of I91 made it an easy and delicious stop on our trip to Springfield, we enjoyed our lunch very much! I loved my wild mushroom and spinach sandwich, hearty and perfectly cooked. The New England Clam Chowder had wonderful flavor and consistency. The Pulled Pork sandwich was overstuffed making it a little messy but worth it! and the Egg and bacon sandwich - well, how can you go wrong with that? The service was quick and friendly, the atmosphere was clean. There was a separate space for people who wanted take out coffee or to stop by for a quick bite. This place is amazing. We stopped here for breakfast on our way up to Maine. The food was so good I forgot to take pictures before I ate! I only have a few. I had the gravalax toast on sourdough. Was yummy Then I had a side of corn beef hash. It was so good!! They make it from scratch and you can tell. My fiend had the chorizo which she said was excellent. My mom and brother had the eggs Benedict with corn beef hash. The homemade posted with the eggs were perfect! And the jam is house made too! Toasted in Northampton Ma. Used to be the old beloved Sylvester's. Second time here. Second time feeling like the food was very mediocre. On the menu it says they make their own gravlox. They also offer bagels which the server said was nothing special. I thought I'd take a chance I asked for a bagel with cream cheese, lox, red onion, capers, etc. pretty traditional. As you can see from the picture, it's a little tiny bits of tomato like from salsa... And long strings of onion, etc. etc. so traditional bagel and lox is a thin round slice of onion and of course a slice of tomato, etc. the lox was nothing special. It actually was quite fishy and was hard to get down. Bagel was kind of like a lender's bagel... I don't think I'll be coming back here. The service was awesome. We ordered pick up, maybe that was the wrong way to go? A few big errors. And it wasn't a big order. We ordered two omelettes: 1. 3 eggs, roasted mushrooms, spinach, and goat cheese with sourdough toast 2. 3 eggs, peppers and spinach and veggie sausage with sourdough toast The veggie sausage omelette had peppers and spinach with cheese AND real sausage, and the mushroom omelette had tomato and mushroom and no cheese? I went back in and said there was no cheese on the mushroom omelette and they were nice enough to bring a side of goat cheese but then we had realized the cheese was on the other omelette as well as real sausage. I stopped by Toasted Noho recently for brunch. The place was packed around 12:45pm on a Saturday. The dining room to the left was completely full, but there was seating in the cafe area to the right. I headed to the cafe area and was immediately told that they were only serving the breakfast menu even though they had a lunch menu that I was hoping to order something from. Eggs dominates the breakfast menu, which I had enough of for the week. Others also stopped by or called and were told the same thing, no lunch, breakfast only. Some left the place in disappointment, while some made the best of it like I did and ordered afternoon breakfast. I found a seat by the window, but I had to order at the counter and pay first and my food would be served to me in normal fashion. My food came out in 10 minutes. I ordered a Vegan Omelet ($14 plus tax), which was actually lightly grilled diced tofu mixed with choice of three toppings (I chose avocado, mushrooms, hot cherry peppers). served with home fries and buttered toast (I chose cinnamon raisin). The portion size was good. The vegan tofu omelet mix was a good healthy alternative to eggs for protein. The grilled & seasoned home fries were really good. I went up to the counter and requested a to go box for half the food. Note: They charge a 4% card fee, so pay cash if you can, which is what I did. read more

We came in for lunch on Easter Sunday. Arrived 40 minutes before closing. Never felt rushed. Staff was fantastic! Order some sandwiches and eggs benedict and French toast. As well as 2 carafes of mimosas. Pleasant. No one raved over the food but no one complained either. :) wished I'd ordered the grilled cheese rather than the benedict. The most comfortable and relaxing place in northampton for breakfast. All the folks that work here, Sara, Brad, Nate, Kerri and the rest make you feel you are at home. The food is phenomenal and custom made to my every request. I had my wifes 60th birthday party here. We had roughly 35 people and everyone loved it. They praised the food and the staff. I disagree with many of the older reviews here - which indicates to me that the restaurant staff have listened and responded. We ate here as a table of four and had a mix of breakfast and lunch foods. The clam chowder was excellent, as was the guacamole chicken sandwich. The smores latte was prepared with care (I loved the marshmallow). We frequently came to Sylvester's and we are happy that a comparable place has taken its spot. People in this area are way too negative about restaurants for the fact that we pretty much have annoying fusion restaurants or fried food restaurants around. read more

There were 4 of us and 2 had their meals only partially served with the rest coming about 20 minutes later. Nice person but he isn't cut out for the restaurant business. I am so disappointed in this restaurant and I will never frequent it again. This is the third time I've tried the restaurant and it sure is not anything like the previous wonderful Sylvester's. On my third visit I ordered a frittata and coffee. The frittata came so soggy that I had to ask if this was a frittata or an omelette. It was lukewarm with two pathetic pieces of soggy lettuce. I had to ask two different waitresses and finally walk into the kitchen and ask for a refill of my cup of coffee. There was not a waitress to be found even after I had asked each different waitress for a coffee refill. I just didn't understand this. The kitchen staff sent somebody and I still had to wait quite a bit for the refill. And then the coffee was lukewarm at Best. This is just unacceptable and it makes sense now that at 12:15 in the afternoon for a breakfast and lunch place there were maybe six tables of people and none of them had more than three people at a table. I may even be exaggerating the number of patrons. I guess people are getting the message that this place really has gone downhill . Actually, I don't know if it ever had an uphill as each visit has been worse than the last. This is not what I would expect from a restaurant in Northampton and with the prices that they charge. I am usually very generous with my reviews, but brutally honest and I would warn people against spending their hard earned money at this place. Really a disappointment. Very, VERY rough. Milk for coffee was curdled. Took half an hour to get water after asking 3 times. Wrong food was brought to our table. When the right food eventually showed up, the pancakes were a texture I've never seen before or knew was possible for pancakes. Maybe the batter was frozen at some point? My toasted was burnt black but also somehow cold. Ambiance needs some kind of background noise, possibly light music, could hear a pin drop inside. read more

We arrived at 1:15pm on a Tuesday for lunch. The place was empty except for two other parties, ( 3 people in total).We were greeted and seated in under 5 minutes. The server was prompt in taking our orders and bringing water. We order the corned beef Benedict and French Toast with real maple syrup and a side fruit cup. We sat for twenty minutes before the server or the food showed up. The Hollandaise on the Benedict was lukewarm, the poached eggs were more raw than cooked, the corned beef hash was spread thinly on two burnt English muffins ($16.00). The French toast was at best soggy, tasting like it had been dipped in water not milk, not a trace of egg was evident ($8.00). The maple syrup was good ($2.00). The fruit cup was small and contained white sour pineapple, eight sour to mushy blueberries, a tasteless strawberry, and we stopped trying to eat it. ($5.00). The server checked to see how we liked everything, and we told her all of the above. She offered replacements, but we declined. We waited for the server to come back wit the check, but after 15 minutes we went in search of her. By this time we were the only people in the restaurant. For our trouble we received a five dollar discount. This was our first and last time at Toasted. Sylvester's it's not. read more

In my opinion, this is the best breakfast in Northampton now. If you like more of a foodie type of experience with gourmet touches and nice plating, then this is the place. The bacon was thick cut and the bread was excellent. The eggs were top notch and the coffee was not diner style but more of a rich, dark roast that you would get from a high end cafe. Some people might remember a place in North Amherst called Salt and Pepper that was an excellent breakfast place and Toasted reminds me of that place. read more

We've been three times and very pleased every visit. I had a two egg omelette with cheddar mushrooms and chorizo the first two times and both times delicious. Tasty potatoes too. The third time I had the gravelux on toasted wheat and it was really good and generous. Friendly and good service too. I didn't look to see if there was that 4% credit card charge but it would have really annoyed me if I saw it. So don't do it or try to justify it. But the place is a breakfast winner and I'm going back soon! read more

I'm disappointed to give it only 2 stars because I really wanted to like Toasted. We tried it 2 times in an effort to give it a chance. In a few words, it's lackluster & mediocre. When you walk in it's not very inviting. Sylvester's had a great coffee bar and cases of pastry on the bar side. Now, there's just a lot of space & the register. I get that Toasted is not a bakery, but I'd come up with something better than what they currently have. Order from Small Oven or Woodstar. The decorations are just blah. As for food...first, when we go to a breakfast place, we expect great coffee/tea. Good news is that they kept Pierce Bros. Fogbuster, but it was warm. And for tea? Forget it. They have Bigelow tea. Yup, same cheap tea you can get at Big Y. They really need to up their game here imo. Ordered eggs, bacon, pancakes, toast. In a nutshell, it was the same food you'd expect to get at a basic diner. No homemade bread or higher quality products. And for the price, not worth it. I understand the owner makes his own sausage, but imo I think there's room for a lot of improvement all around. Sylvester's was fantastic--Northampton needs another high quality breakfast place. I hope Toasted improves, but until then, I'm off to have breakfast elsewhere. read more

I came for breakfast with my daughter after she got home from college. We ordered eggs Benedict with home fries. This was our first time at Toasted. Food was prepared well, eggs cooked to our liking, coffee was hot, all good. What turned me off was the plastic plates they use! We are sitting inside at a sit-down restaurant. Plastic dishes, really?! My daughter had a bent fork that she was able to bend back on her own - cheap flatware too?! It's a detail that really brings the place down. I ordered two eggs over easy, homemade chorizo, home fries and a side of the homemade corned beef hash. My eggs were over cooked as well as the chorizo (dry and crispy in parts). We love to try corned beef hash when it's on the menu, it was more of a mushy consistency. The sourdough bread was great and the blueberry jam wasn't jam like but was flavorful. With the expensive prices (every little thing is an upcharge), the mediocre quality, and meh service I won't go back. read more

A happy place with a sour ending: I heard some good things about Toasted, so I wanted to visit the former Sylvester's space to get a sense of what's happening now. First of all, the weekly hours are more extensive than are posted in Yelp, so if you intend to visit, check the website or call. Serving breakfast and lunch, I found the food quite nicely (though a little sparsely) prepared. I had French toast with a topping of fresh blueberries while another had an absolutely delicious chicken guacamole sandwich. Pros - clean, well presented, tasty, same decor as Sylvester's, lovely service. Cons - loud kitchen staff, dark corners, 'nickel & dime' for standard sides, toppings and beverages. Although nice food, it is not as robust in flavor or volume as the old Sylvester's. But what made it sour at the end was the surcharge for using plastic to pay. This is absolutely one of my pet peeves and I will boycott any restaurant who charges me extra for a cashless payment! I understand thoroughly why some are doing it. But I don't have to tolerate it. I will not return and I will inform anyone who asks me about the 'secret' charge at the end. read more

We have been to this place several times. So, we do not mind the place but could be better. The food has been hit and miss. We have tried various breakfast dishes. Some have been good and some not so much. E.g., asked for sunny side up egg and it was hard, or we have had warm to hot coffee. Pancakes had different textures everytime we had them. Service was fine and we have no complaints. Finally, for basic breakfast the price is too high. I do not mind paying a bit more to support local businesses but we want more consistent and flavorful food. read more

I really wanted this place to be good. Obviously, I was disappointed. They seem be very new to the restaurant business, so hopefully they'll learn how to correct many of the missteps we experienced. It wasn't that there was any one big thing, but rather death by a thousand cuts. Here are a some of our issues: 1) Service was slow...very slow even though there were not many customers. 2) Food was overpriced for what it was. Plus there was a service fee for using a credit card. Seriously? Is that even legal? (honestly, I don't know) 3) I ordered coffee and was asked if I wanted cream (I did) but they brought out a mug that was, literally, filled to the brim. Was I supposed to mix them in my mouth? 4) Toast for the kids was blackened. I'm sure some people want it this way, but I've never met a kid that does. I later saw that they will make the toast to your liking, but they didn't ask and to assume you want it black seemed odd. No jelly or butter on the table to make it palpable. 5) Got an egg and cheese "toastie" with bacon ($11). Sandwich was very big, but the bacon was scant. 6) My kids got juice and were charged $6 for each. That is the price for a large, but they either received a small or their version of large is comically small. 7) One child ordered one chocolate chip pancake which they loved. It had a LOT of chocolate chips as in more chocolate chips than pancake batter. The $8.50 seemed excessive. Bottom line: The food was okay to fine, but overpriced. I can stomach a high price point for good quality. But, I've had higher quality for lower cost at most greasy spoon diners. The service was slow and, seemingly, inexperienced. I'll try again in 6 months if they're still in business to see if they've gotten past their growing pains, but I cannot currently recommend this place. read more

We had a delicious early breakfast today at Toasted. First time there. Glad to see the location of the former "Sylvester's" back in operation. Got there soon after 7AM opening, so not many people yet (and free street parking out front until 10AM). Very friendly and attentive service. I ordered a two-egg omelet with three fillings, and my wife got the daily bennie with a few modifications. The server happily took all the mods and the dish came out exactly as ordered, and delicious too. My omelet was also hot and very tasty, no additional condiments needed. Good coffee and tea. Toasted was everything we were looking for in a hot breakfast this morning. It's on our list for a future return! read more
