First of all, I want to state I am not a soccer mom Anyway, I walked into Toast Inc with my two boys after their big game here in Tenafly hoping to grab a quick bite to eat before trekking the road again. The service was quick, staff was friendly, but the overall quality and size of food was mediocre and the prices were as steep as the boys 2014 playoff climb which culminated in an exhausting head-to-head rivalry match against the impressive Cresskill Cougars. Sadly, the debilitating bout ended in an overwhelming defeat much like my wallet and our stomachs after ordering the breakfast burrito and two, strawberry cream cheese cinnamon raisin bagels. Great service and decent food. I've been to Toast a couple of times over the past few years. My go-to when I'm in town visiting my boyfriend's family is Celebrity for bagels and cream cheese and Tenafly Hot Bagels for their breakfast sandwiches. We decided to go to Toast to "change it up" recently. I got a sausage, egg, and cheese on an "everything" bagel, while my boyfriend got a bacon, egg, and cheese on a sesame bagel. I only really like "everything" bagels and was very disappointed when they didn't have it in the flat option (they only had sesame). So I ended up taking out some of the extra fluff of bread, but overall was pretty satisfied with my choice. Their coffee was decent too. I have to say that even though their food was just "okay," compared to the other bagel shops in the area, I really enjoyed the service they provided us with there. Good bagels and salads for NJ. I grew up on the best of the Brooklyn Bagels. The staff and the manager could use some serious improvements. He is either the manager or the owner and could use some personality training. Gives a big perfunctory hello and does not even look at you. Seems like he thinks rude is an good attribute. It is convenient when I visit my kids and it annoys me every time I go in there. All the workers need a better role model and should learn better English and what a bakers dozen is. They really have a hard time getting orders correct. Write them down if you are consistently getting it wrong. I order the same thing everyday and the guy gets it wrong at least 50% of time. Cant wait for another owner to take over and make the place decent again. The current owners obviously have no experience in food service and haven't made an effort to do something right.. read more

This bagel cafe is ok. Nothing exciting. Seemed to wait a long time for a toasted flagel when the shop was only a little busy. Guy had to check with me twice to make sure I ordered butter. Didn't think the order was too hard to remember. If you need a bagel and you're in Tenafly but just can't make it over to Cresskill...stop in. I love this place for their bagels. Honestly, I've been coming here forever, and they've never disappointed. However, as of recent.....I think they got a new owner. The bagels are still so good but the staff isn't friendly at all. The woman behind the counter (I won't name names) has a terrible attitude and isn't friendly for a second. She huffs and puffs at anything you ask for, and seems annoyed if you're getting multiple products. For example, I asked for 8 bagels. She gave me attitude because I wasn't getting 6 or 12. I didn't want 6 or 12...I wanted 8. I hate to say I might not ever go back to this place again, because I do love their food - however, she has given me attitude the last three times I've been in there, and I'm starting to think I will limit my visits. She needs some serious improvements before I go back in there again. read more

The food there is less then average. There is one person working in the kitchen witch makes the food take forever. Yes, there is a lot of walking area and seating area in the place, but it would help if people were there to fill it up. Daily hot sandwich specials are always delicious, as are their side salads (potato salad, cole slaw, macaroni salad). I got a chopped salad for the first time the other day after watching someone else do it. Choose your lettuce (spring mix or romaine) and 6 toppings (choose from about 20), then they chop it finely in a huge bowl. Added chicken for $1 (meats are not included in the 6 toppings, they're extra). Packed it up and gave me a generous amount of dressing in a side container. The 2 ladies who helped me on this particular day were courteous, attentive and kind. Nice to be able to get healthy "fast food"!!! read more

Love these bagels. I come here particularly because they have whole wheat everything bagels. I live in CA now, but come here whenever I'm home. My mom will occasionally ship a batch to me. Delicious! There are several bagel shops in town, but until they have everything whole wheat available, I can't say they're a favorite. read more

The bagels were stale and almost inedible. The workers were so slow and inefficient that in a line of around 5 or 6 it took me 20 minutes to get a simple order in. Would not recommend, try celebrity bagels around the corner for much better service and food. read more

I love this place. The lunch I had here was terrific and the service/ hospitality was even better. I live in Manhattan, so I've had a lot of bagels, and mine at Toast was great. But also, because I was waiting for a kid of mine to take an exam nearby, I had 3 hours to spend. I went for the lentil soup, too. Delicious. I noticed that the place was busy but not too busy. The perfect kind of bustle. Everyone treated well. The Toast staff was very gracious as I sat, nibbled, sipped, and used my computer and the wifi available. It was just what I wanted. A few weeks later, I had a special project that I enlisted their help on, and they couldn't have been more helpful. I will be back whenever I'm in the area. read more

Absolutely horrible. A simple breakfast sandwich took almost ten minutes to make. After forgetting to toast the bread, leaving it in a toaster that wasn't even on, and charging me six dollars, the server put the food directly in aluminum wrap (making it soggy, metallic, and generally disgusting). I've been to very few eateries that are this incompetent; and none of them charged anywhere near this much. Definitely never going back. read more

If I could do no stars, that still would be too many stars! This place is the worst! The service is the worst, all of the workers ignore you when you come in.They used to have a racist short Spanish guy that i am happy they got rid of. I used to go there every single day before work to get a quick Breakfast and a drink but it was never quick to make a single Sausage Egg and Cheese i had to call it in and still go there and wait. I'm hesitant to say that they are racist because that is such a easy plee but i have stood there waiting while others were helped who walked in after me. I wouldn't recommend going here even if you needed a bagel to save your life, celebrity bagels right around the corner is much better! They should bring back the older White gentleman, always very helpful and would have a conversation with you while he was making your food so it didn't seem like that much of a wait. Hate Toast! For the suburbs not bad at all. The flavored cream cheese could be better. I live in Cresskill, but go to Toast because its the same owner, the lines are shorter and there is a parking lot. Teaneck Bagels on Teaneck Rd is better, but Toast is much more relaxing. The new Korean owner at Celebrity has changed the quality and its now bad. So Toast it is. read more

I should have walked out when two customers came back to complain about the spoiled milk in their coffee while I was in line to order my ice coffee. The owner was very very rude. He did not apologize to anyone but instead gave the customers a nasty look.. After waiting for another few minilutes, (again, no apologies for making ppl wait) I got my coffee for $3.75 and it tasted DISGUSTING!!!!!. It tasted like burn coffee from a week ago. I have to say it is by far the worst ice coffee I ever had in my life. The combination of the rudeness of the owner and their quality in coffee, left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. Ordered a sandwich today and looked at the receipt. They charged separately for the cold cuts! Who does that these days? When I questioned it, the counterperson named Sophia was very sarcastic and tilted her head up and said "we've always done it that way." I was surprised that they didn't charge for the bread.
