Not only did we have to throw away everything we had and our baby's stuffed animals once we realized we were infested with bedbugs in this nasty motel room that looks like a set on a Criminal Minds episode but they kept our 200$ deposit for "towel replacement" when there were NO TOWELS in the room to begin with. The self declared "manager" of the facility was completely drunk and unprofessional and the only person that wasn't a family member was the prostitute and her pimp next door. Trust me you can find a much better place for the same price in Butte. Don't put yourself through this nightmare. You've been warned.

The room kept warm on a cold night (perhaps just a little too warm, but we just opened doors/windows) and the shower's hot water came quick. Their rate and pet fees for our two dogs were reasonable. Our welcome with Lori the next morning was bar none the best ever! She greeted us with a plate of lemon bars! Keep in mind it's off season and we were the only visitor passing through. I can't imagine this is a regular thing she does but worth mentioning to show you her kindness and generosity. They were the real deal, with shortbread & super lemony filling! Also she asked for less money because we chose the smaller site. Wow when has this ever happened in our many travels? Never! A storm was coming through the next day so we decided to wait it out with two more nights and 2 days at Boulder Hot Springs 1.5 miles away. Loris fb page gave us a great idea of what we could find in town. We visited Hanks aka Boulder Hardware to get propane. (Thanks Chloe for your help!) By 3rd night we learned about the infamous steaks at Windsor Bar and treated ourselves. What a fun place and it appeared to be woman owned and run. On our last morning we were visited by two tall birds. Lori had corrected us and said the heron aren't here yet, there are three pair of "Sandhill Cranes," what a glorious sight! We look forward to returning to such remarkable and sincere hospitality. Many thanks Lori, we are very grateful to be able to spend three nights here. Did I mention how affordable? $35/night for full hook ups, yikes!

My 5 star review is slashed thanks to the archaic policy of deposit (whooping $250 for a $100…read moreroom). Deposits have disappeared in quality hotels and were used to either boost their ledger and/or the hotel is a history of unruly guests - either way it holds the guests money from use for days! Since the clerk does not check the room upon checkout and releases the deposit without checking, deposits are meaningless. Deposit policies should be easy to spot on reservation webpages and BEFORE you arrive at the hotel. I typically leave hotels with these deposits as seems unsafe. Not to mention I have to verify return of deposit after I leave the hotel. Extra work for a nights stay. So the 5 star I was leaving plummeted thanks to a unnecessary and unwarranted deposit - especially with such a large number Improve? Take away the deposit

The guide was very (overly?) enthusiastic with some exaggerated "facts" (didn't seem quite right to me, so I researched a few things afterwards). Indeed Butte was a very important, crowded and rough place in the early part of the 20th century and the stories you will hear on this tour give a good flavor of that time, just know that it's more like watching a movie "based on a true story", than a documentary.
