This airport is a simple small town airport. TSA seems to open an hour before departure. I'm TSA precheck and man are they serious about their jobs here. I've flown to more airports than I can remember in multiple countries and none as tough as Butte. My biggest gripe here is if you can't get to the airport bar why are the vending machines almost empty with the stuff no one wants. read more

I love this airport and fly here any time the tickets are near the price of Bozeman's. There are great food/coffee/drink options for normal prices, not airport prices. AMAZING. I got through security quickly and hassle free. My guitar capo looked suspicious and they had to go through my backpack, the gentleman who did was so kind and respectful. The vibes here are so cheery and friendly. I moved out of state, but every time I come home to MT, it is a pleasure to fly in and out of butte. read more

Haven't even flown out yet, am already enthusiastic. Needed to drop off rental car today. Did so at a lot. Put keys in the box. Headed for the airport proper (around the middle of the day). Nobody there. Except ..... one person cleaning up the little cafe there. Inquired about where to find a taxi. Oh, don't worry. Almost finished here. I can take you to your hotel. (Really?!) And she really was kind enough to do just that. Very much appreciated the ride, the friendly and interesting conversation, the generosity. read more

This is a simple airport. Boarding, arrival, waiting area, baggage claim, rental cars, cafe, check in and security are all within steps of each other. No TSA pre-check though. If you have it, you can keep your shoes on, but you still need to wait in the same, relatively quick-moving line. There's nothing to do at the gate once you get through security. Get your drinks, use the restroom, bring your food through security, or do without. On the bright side, the waiting area for your non-traveling friends is separated from the gate by a glass wall, so it's easy to make faces and hand gestures to each other through the glass -- at least that is if they're not warming themselves by the fireplace on a cold day and ignoring you. Small airport, friendly people -- even the TSA (shockingly so), nice view of the mountains. There are very, very limited flight options from this airport, so if you miss your flight, you may end up waiting until the next day. Maybe that's not a bad thing, though -- there's more time to enjoy the mountain views. read more

This regional airport is, in a word: Dinky. I have never been in to a US "regional" airport before so this was a new experience. The "terminal" is literally 1 room and a single gate. Currently, Delta is the only commercial airline flying in here 2x per day. When I arrived and had rented a full size car, I was not expecting that the rental car area is literally just a couple of marked spaces in the parking lot. In my space was a huge pickup truck. Haha, was quite funny as I think this is what qualifies as a full sized car in Montana. I was disappointed that it did not have a rifle rack and a flag on the back window of the cab. :( Upon returning to the airport to make my early morning 6:20 am flight out of here, I had received the standard notification on my phone from Delta advising me that arriving at least 2 hours prior to my flight was recommended (as it is at every US airport). I figured that since this was such a small airport that I would not need to be there quite that early so I decided to not show up until about 90 min before. I got to the airport at 4:50 am and the entire place was dark and the terminal was locked. Haha, I guess the joke was on me. Around 5:10, I noticed a couple TSA folks, a lady in a cowboy hat, a lady in a ski hat, and a guy with a gun strapped on show up to unlock the front door. That was pretty much the greeting party that opens the place up. Returning my rental car was pretty much on the honor system by putting the keys on the unmanned desk with the rental agreement. Staffing for the rental car desks does not arrive until 9 am according to the signage. I watched TSA check their machines, one lady staff the check in counter, the other lady make coffee and the armed guy serve as the security monitor. All 3 of us made it through the check point in record time. It was nice that there was actually a separate lane for TSA Precheck. It was even nicer that I was the only one in it. The actual terminal is a single room with lots of space to spread out, sit and relax, grab a snack or a souvenir, and contemplate the simpler aspects of life that often pass me by as a metro personality. My whole experience was kind of humorous as I really had to work on scaling back my typical business travel anxieties. There was really no need to arrive early, gas up the rental car in advance, rush to get into security lines, race to the gate, jockey for a decent spot in the boarding process, clamor to get my carry on bags into an empty space, etc. I really just had to show up and probably would have been fine had I arrived about 10 min prior to actual flight departure. The entire experience was kind of refreshing in a very rural sort of way. Given that this airport and the airline likely does not make much money, it is really nice to see that this is such a nice, approachable amenity for the community. Clearly it provides local jobs, brings in some regional revenue, business and innovation, and definitely makes local citizen lives better by allowing them to travel away as desire. Although this is such a dinky airport with a small town feel, it brings a lot to the community and is a breeze to navigate for the experienced traveler. read more

Kudos to Lisa Shea! Five Stars for the excellent service and work ethic from Delta staff. I recently flew to Butte, Montana for a wedding. Like any wedding, nothing goes perfect, and it's how everyone rolls with the mishaps along the way that makes for a fantastic wedding. The same can be true for air travel. Our return flight indicated a mechanical error on the tarmac, so we had to exit our plane. Bert Mooney is a tiny airport, so Delta had to charter a new plane from Salt Lake City. Unfortunately, our flight was rescheduled for the following morning. This could have been a nightmare scenario, but kudos to Lisa Shea and the rest of the Delta staff at Butte, Montana for working hard (under pressure) to accommodate all the passengers. Delta did right by us, and comped our room at a nice nearby hotel. This included complimentary breakfast and meal vouchers. The hotel was walking distance, but my wife had a bad ankle. Graciously, Lisa shuttled us to the hotel. She went above and beyond. Extremely professional, courteous, and efficient. Thank you Lisa and please make sure she gets all the accolades she deserves. read more

I honestly have never had a better airport experience than here. Parking is free, security check is a breeze, and customer service is top-notch. The employee who checked my bag was friendly and made it simple, and the employee at the gate went above and beyond for me. I travel with a lot of camera gear, so I usually ask to make sure I can get my carry-on actually in the cabin with me, because I've had items broken when I've had to check. She switched me to another row so I'd have it all to myself, and the extra space would ensure my bag could stay with me. I get that at smaller airports, you can have more delays and issues with there being fewer planes and room for flexibility, but that wasn't an issue for me today. So as far as I'm concerned, this was better than a 5-star experience! Update: So my flight actually was delayed by about 2 hours, but it wasn't anything the airport staff could have prevented. So I still stand by my review! read more

Talking about a "country" airport, that it was. Surprisingly easier to fly to than the larger Missoula airport. The TSA setup was done arbitrarily, I felt like anyone could get through that... But nonetheless, I made it in and out. I liked the town of Butte which is over the ridge from the north end of Yosemite. read more

Inside the Terminal, it is expansive, featuring spectacular views and spacious ticketing, boarding areas and new customer-service amenities including a restaurant. New terminal building is fabulous. Has a rustic feel that's congruent with the Montana location. Restaurant serves diners before and after security. Delta staff do the best they can with only two departures per day. My flight delay caused me to drive to Helena airport. The rental car companies made that easy, albeit expensive. Thankfully they stayed open after the last departure. Hopefully I can go all the way with Bert Mooney next time and not just to second base. read more

Friendly staff. Very small and quaint. Landing here is a bit of an adventure. This airport only has two inbound and two outbound flights a day, I believe. As a result, the security checkpoint area (the only one at the airport) opens approximately an hour before departure. Not that there are a huge number of people, but it's just something to note. Also, I was hoping to try the in-airport restaurant, but it was closed for lunch. read more

Ok, this place takes me back to my days as a flight attendant flying into small town airports. But one simply can't ignore the ease of use this airport affords. I arrived 1 hour early as is customary and realized I truly could have slept another half hour. Parking is literally 200 feet from the terminal and all parking is free of charge. Once I walked through the door, another 10 feet to a Delta check-in kiosk. I put in my information and as an airline employee, expected it to spit out a seat request card that I could turn in at the gate for a seat assignment......nope, they had already assigned me a seat and I got a boarding pass just like anyone else. Ok, now we're 57 minutes prior to departure. They have a fantastic little waiting lounge to spend time with family in that exact situation. So off to the lounge we went. I got to spend the next 25 minutes chatting with my grandma and aunt, uncle and cousins. How nice. From there, you can see the actual gate, so once the airplane pulled in, we said our good byes and I headed for security (10 feet away). There is also a nice little bar/restaurant in case you are traveling solo. Security was literally a breeze. I walked up to the ID checker and another TSA agent walked up with a smile and grabbed all my items and put them through the x-ray machine while I was still having my ID checked. All I had to do was walk through and grab my stuff on the other side. This is still TSA right?? On the other side, they had a pretty standard Delta gate. They deplane inbound passengers through a separate ramp to baggage claim, so there was no congestion which was fantastic. Once boarding began, the friendly and efficient SkyWest staff got everyone on board in about 10 minutes and we got off the ground 20 minutes early. Wow! read more

The delta group suck. Cancelled a flight, rerouted through Bozeman, emailed the flight was going to leave 55 minutes late instead of being canceled. Email only. No call, text, or effort from the local gate agents after detailed conversations. read more

Absolutely horrible, this airport has cancelled my delta flight out every time I have come to butte. They blame delta but really this airport should negotiate with other airlines if delta is so horrible. Don't use if you want to get out of town on schedule, completely unreliable. read more
