Walking down Park on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon, I peeked into what was the back entrance of a cute vintage shop. Really, I thought immediately the place was out of my price range, but a friendly stranger told me I should go look inside, offering that you could do cute date nights and make your own scents here, but then she assured me the place was black owned, and I HAD to at least see what gems were hiding inside. And there were so many! Bath salts you could mix to bring home, an oil scent lab, and all sorts of adorable accessories that caught my eye: lacy socks, perfect for Docs; some earrings at a great price point; and some sunglasses that no one else will be wearing ANYWHERE, for a mere $20! The woman working the store was just so friendly, and told us to cash is Queen in here store, if you know what I mean? But, I've found my favorite place to invest my modest disposable income at when I'm in Alameda. I'll be back to crate an oil scent roller...for $15! That's absurd. And it was sweet the store has my father's name: To Herb With Love. My mom must've been sending me angel messages. read more

Amazing custom made perfumery! Not only is there a huge selection Martie is extremely knowledgeable and patient. She helped us find all our sscents and we walked away with 10 different bottles. What a wonderful find this store is. Somewhat hidden, you walk down a hall into a woman's dream. Jewelry, tote bags, clothes, and perfume! When you choose a perfume you like you can also choose the size bottle you want it poured into. The selection is huge. Marti Collins is the owner of the shop, To Herb With Love. I never knew about this store until this year at the Park Street Spring Festival. I came across her merchandise while strolling down Park Street. What caught my eye was the lovely totebag of a fashionista (Audrey Hepburn) and the table full of an assortment of sunglasses and some jewelry. Of course, I wanted to see more of what she had, so I stepped inside to a store that is longer than wider, and her merchandise was so meticulously placed in different sections. I couldn't help but ooh and aah at the apothecary bottles of bath salts, the bottles of fragrances, the jewelry and the lovely totebags. Sexy Marilyn Monroe was "in the house" embossed on some of her merchandise. Marti was nice enough to allow me to browse, but I couldn't stay too long as my hubby was waiting outside for me. I love the vintage fill of her store and the total feminity of woman...romantic and so much sensuality...ooh, la, la. This store is a must visit on your tour of Park street. Its a darling boutique with a wonderful proprietor. There is an assortment of cute sunglasses, T-shirts and other clothes. I love this shop for the bath products. The owner makes amazing smelling bubble bath bombs. She will also mix bath salts with a custom scent and bubbles if you like. What prompted me to write this review was that I found the business card during my spring cleaning. Apparently the location changed, but not far from the old one on Oak St. The store is decorated in a boutique style, but very "homey" and "welcoming." Every item for sale sort of has its own place in the store. Marti (owner) is friendly and genuine. One of my favorite perks is that if you pay with cash, there is a discount. Another plus is that she gift-wraps for free and does it nicely. I'd definitely would make a detour to this shop before/after eating at a yummy restaurant on Park St. read more

A cute store that manages to pack somewhat of a sizable selection into such a narrow, albeit long, space. The store is broken up into sections as you move through, with sunglasses in one space, bath salts in another, fragrances, macaroons (yes, many different colored macaroons just sitting and waiting for you to buy and eat them), and finally jewelry and accessories in the back. While not everything was necessarily my style (and not that it matters anyway), I really liked the vibe the place is going for, with the retro feel mixed with that of a Parisian boudoir. I walked away with a very pretty necklace among their varied array of items for $13, but I can't say there was very much to choose from. The owners were very friendly and attentive though, and that's always a plus. I'd recommend checking this place out as you pass by, but not necessarily to go out of your way to visit. However that's not to say it's terrible in any way, it just could benefit from a larger selection of goods, as well as more varied product - there's only so many bath salts and scented oils a person could want or need. read more

I used to come here and buy gifts for my friends and family... she made her own scented lotions and salts and put them in the cutest little pink bags. This was back when her shop was next to Kobe-ya and I loved it. The owner was sweet and just had the loveliest accent! I thought it closed down but nope. It just moved... to a quaint location on Santa Clara... still cute. So I stopped in her newest Park St location. She wasn't there (not that she would recognize me anyway, it's been awhile). The jewelry and knickknacks were still darling as ever. OH HOW I LOVE her taste. I was dying to buy a pair of earrings.... but... the lady (I guess the boss when the boss is away) was really rather rude... I'm not sure if she thought I didn't have enough money to buy anything but she circled me like hawk - and if you have ever been in this store, you know that it's SMALL. Come on lady. Seriously? Give me some breathing room. I'm not a thief, never was, never will be. And I purposely kept both hands in her view in hopes of her backing off. Didn't help. On top of being my shadow, she kept peppering me with questions when I mentioned I shopped at her other locations. Maybe she's lonely in there, maybe she's bored. I am remiss in writing a review of THWL for over a year! This is one of the best places to shop for all things girlie, vintage and faux vintage...and I include San Francisco here. Why? Because Marti has a great eye for unique finds. She offers them at GREAT prices. She is always so gracious and funny and super helpful. The handmade soaps are wonderful (she somehow finds time to make them). And as someone who has shopped there many times, I still come out shocked I bought so much for so little. It's like meeting a funny hybrid of Edith Piaf, Madonna, Greta Garbo, and Poison Ivy. Sure, the inventory is a mix of new, used and knockoffs. This isn't a chi-chi boutique. But if you're looking for various styles that are generally hard to find --art deco, rockabilly, ORIGINAL -- THWL is the shop. I never go wrong here with gifts, especially for the holidays. I LOVE this store, and I love Marti, the owner! She is the sweetest person...genuine, helpful, wanting to make your experience at her store the best it can be. Took my daughter there a few months ago, before she left for college, and she really enjoyed it as well. She travels to LA every week to re-stock so coming in on Saturday is the best bet for the best selection. And I have to share...the first time my daughter and I visited, she was worried that she wouldn't be able to afford anything in the store. Beautiful jewelry and a lot of variety, I would only consider about half of the selection to be my style. I often recognize earrings as products from Forever 21, only marked at a higher price. In my opinion the quality is questionable and usually doesn't fit my budget. My friend was once sold "Ray-Bans" there with the understanding that they were real. When she got home, she researched them and learned they were in fact, knockoffs (like all the other handbags and sunglasses there). Okay, what prompted me to write a review was a search to see what happened to this store. Glad to see it's still around and I will be visiting soon. My friend and I drove by the old location on Oak and were saddened to see this cozy shop had disappeared. My friend lamented over not having her "go-to shop" for perfect gifts for the girlfriends in her life. I was shopping at To Herb w Love when it was over where the Dragon Rouge is now, and Marti has always had an eye for great bling at an even greater price. Her stock is constantly evolving and there's something for everyone's style, from the girly and romantic to things with edgy flair. I am just glad the store still exists. I absolutely love coming to this adorable shop! If you blink you may miss it. Right next to Tomatina. Almost everything in there is hand made one of a kind. They have beautiful jewelry, tops, glasses, soap, candles and perfume. I'm sure more there's even more I haven't discovered. Prices are very reasonable $10-$15 for necklaces and earrings.
