This isn't communicated to you at time of purchase in the store and there's a small sign which they point to that's not near where I paid. For those purchasing online and picking up, the return policy is not communicated BEFORE you pay. They will tell you it's on the receipt, which you receive AFTER you pay. This is a review for the Diana O'Connor Designs masks and the shop's customer service. These are the BEST face masks to wear during the COVID-19 pandemic. They're breathable, comfortable, and come in fun colors and patterns. The unique design makes them roomier while still molding to your face. I got the behind the ears version, but they also carry an over the head type. I bought two, my mom ordered two, and my boyfriend's mom just purchased some. We love them! Plus the customer service was excellent. They didn't have the pattern I wanted so they placed an order which arrived in a few days. They called me to follow up. Beautiful and clean shop. The little shop on Piedmont is testimony as to why one need not wait for the High Holy Days to pick up a little something for that special someone even if that someone sometimes happens to be you. Cases of tastefully selected local artist jewelry mostly for the her. Now in the window ornaments some of them unicorns and one oddly made it to Bar Cesar go figure. Pens, wallets, stuffies, other fuzzy warm things, once a unicorn head that now hangs in my living room. Arts and crafts and truly interested and enjoyable lovely people helping because they sincerely enjoy you and want you to come back again. The wares rotate and if you go often enough you are invited to sample their frequent traveler box for a token of their appreciation. Things in the outside made up prevaricating world are indeed not what they seem. But. Inside her space it's different. It's real. Comforting. Fundamental. LOVE this shop. You can find handmade silver and semi-precious stone bracelets, rings and necklaces here. Also items such as cutesy homewares, photo frames, etc. In the back, you can see the artisans busy at work. Other jewelry designers are showcased here. Definitely the place to come for unique, locally-produced one-of-a-kind pieces. More on the delicate and dainty side, it is also reasonably priced! I could understand one of the Yelper's reservations about service. Compared to Pimlico, it is more standoffish, which is a shame. As the saying goes, "you attract more bees with honey." This little shop is perfect when you're looking for a gift for yourself or a friend. I enjoyed browsing through the jewelry -- there is a really great selection of rings, necklaces, bracelets etc. It's not cheap jewelry, some of which run well into the hundreds of dollars, but there are items which run under $100 or even $50. They have a bunch of knick knacks as well so take your time browsing. The store looks small but they are packed with a lot of stuff. I ended up buying a business card holder from here and my son wanted this unusual wallet. Really cute store and they told me they get new things all the time. read more

Since I overspent on my budget for jewelry for this month at Jennifer Tuton, I couldn't buy anything but I just really enjoyed looking at her jewelry which was simple and delicate. I could totally see myself wearing her pieces but I wish she had pieces that were in rhodium, silver usually tarnishes on me and since I'm allergic to nickel I'm not able to wear her earrings. Having visited Philipa Roberts for the first time 5 months ago, at which time I purchased a gift for a friend and signed up within the customer system, I decided to visit the boutique again, excited to check out a pair of gold hoops I'd had my eye on for myself. I loved the originality of the design and my first visit was a positive experience. I recalled there being sale items and hoped to see whether I could snag a deal on a gold piece. Upon entering the store, there were 2 other shoppers. I was not greeted by anyone until I spotted the section I was looking for and ventured there. As soon as I started picking up some of the items, I was approached by the sales assistant who very directly and somewhat rudely asked me if I needed something in particular. Her energy immediately put me in defense mode while I explained about the hoops and she rebutted "what reduced section?" and corrected me that it was called the "bargain bin" and that it wasn't where I gestured it to be. It felt like an interrogation. I stood around for a few minutes longer with a piece in my hand that I already intended to purchase and eventually decided that I deserved much better treatment, returned the piece, and left. My previous experience was MUCH better and I would have purchased an item today had I not felt offended. I'm often mistaken for being younger than I am at 30 years old. I get that Oakland can be a dangerous place and the social climate here is tense what with the disparity, but ageism and other prejudices won't keep customers in your store. Sorry if I wasn't dressed nicely enough for you, lady. Really left a bad impression. read more

I had a wonderful experience this morning being helped by a young salesperson named Madison, I believe. I have had an anxiety-filled time finding the right earrings for my sister's wedding. (Bad customer service and bad selection at other places.) I came here expecting more of the same but was completely surprised by my visit from start to finish. Madison was very engaged when I walked in the door and she started helping me. It honestly made my entire day. She helped me pick out various pieces according to my likes and showed me the little details on each one that she personally liked. And she was really patient with the amount of stuff I was trying on! I super appreciated it. So yeah, this place has a gorgeous selection of unique fine jewelry pieces that aren't too expensive. I went with one of Philippa's pieces but there's also plenty of pieces from other designers all over the country. Plus random little gift items that are pretty cute. I'm only giving 4/5 stars tho bc I believe my fellow people of color who have left comments stating they were made to feel unwelcome due to their race. I sincerely hope it is not the case, but it's happened to me other places too many times. This is a nice jewelry store with mid range pieces. It seems that most, if not all the items are from local artist. There is an emphasis on sterling silver with clean lines. A would be great place to buy gifts, unfortunately, I can only give the store 2 stars because the customer service was atrocious. After glaring at me throughout my visit, the sales lady told one of her associates to watch my friend and me while she went in the back to look for a non display item that we were purchasing. Do you know how, if you're like a lot of women, your heart speeds up a little when you spy that familiar teal of a Tiffany's box or bag with its distinctive black lettering? Well, I've found my new version of that experience. The tiny packaging that will make my pulse race is now is a tasteful beige with four olive looking circles that form a stylized flower next to the name: (in lower case) Philippa Roberts. I came in for a soiree, but stayed to shop! This store rocks! If I had more than a few pennies to rub together, I would have bought much more. As it was the friendly staff pretty much had to kick me out at closing. At one point, I literally said, "Do I have to go? Can I please stay?" Podge, Jen, Stacey, Adam, and (of course) Philippa are amazing kind and down-to-earth people. They were humorous and charming. I won't bore you by going into every exchange, but suffice it to say that I enjoyed some nice conversation with each person. The store has a wonderful range of jewelry, household decorative items and appropriate gifts. I bought a wonderful delicate necklace (which, alas, was not one of Philippa's) to which I added some letter pendents. I look forward to returning and buying one of Philippa's pieces. (Better yet, somebody should buy me some!) What was nice is that the staff all seem to know where the other bits come from. So anything you buy here supports a cool artist. read more

Love this shop! Tonight was my first time there. I was a +1 for the Yelp event. We got to got across the street for wine tasting, them come back to make our own piece of jewelry! Being the indecisive person that I am, it took me a while to pick my materials, but everyone there was super helpful and patient with my clumsy self. Philippa was there and totally helped me with my necklace and I totally (heart) Adam for his help with both of my necklace. (Thanks for your patience, Adam- you totally rule!) We also spend like an hour looking at all of the adorable and fun stuff there. I will definitely come back here to shop on a normal day. I purchased a rose & 14K gold personalized emblem necklace and am loving what it has done for my décolletté! Philippa Roberts jewelry is the just the right thing for your picky mother's, sister's and daughters. The designs are simple and tasteful, yet unique enough to catch anyone's eye. It doesn't stop at jewelry though, she has amazing gifts for any time of year. I bought Christmas presents for so many people here last year. Their style is crafty, homemade and elegant style (I know, a bit of a contradiction). This lovely little shop popped rather quietly up on Piedmont late last year. I'd seen Philippa's jewelry in Pelago, so I thought the store was only going to showcase her collection. I was wrong. She shows other local artists and designers, as well as her own work. The store also carries housewares, books, cards, baby gifts, and all that delightful clutter. I don;t mean to say that the store is cluttered, just that they carry the kind of stuff I like to buy when I have extra cash, and which then takes up space in my house. You know, all those pretty little things. Aaaanyway, it's not often I walk into a new shop and shell out $60 on a gift, and then find I'm very happy about it, but that's what happened. I love the simple style and the way she uses different metals together. The customer service is excellent, they take their time to help you find exactly what you are looking for. Piedmont Ave at its best. This is THE BEST gift shop/boutique on Piedmont Ave in Oakland. The staff are pleasant and there's no pressue to buy. I'm addicted to Philippa Roberts almost in the same way I'm addicted to coffee and narcotic pain medication. Ok, not really, but still. I can't tell you how many unique, fantastic gifts I've gotten from this place. And not just jewelry either. Scotch rocks and a poop book for my husband, an awesome leather man with fancy wooden case for my 15 year old nephew. Funky purses and belts for my teenage nieces. Adorable toys and blankets for new moms. And oh yes, dozens upon dozens of pieces of handmade jewelry.
