Two Mary's Mercantile just opened on the estuary side of the Alameda waterfront, and I'm already obsessed. This place is beautifully curated -- part boutique, part apothecary, part old-school general store, with a little coastal magic mixed in. The shop is filled with a thoughtful mix of items, from small-batch teas, spices, and pantry goods to ceramics, candles, vintage glassware, bar tools, and art. Everything feels handpicked and intentional. There are also fun little surprises in every corner, like tea sets, cool matchboxes, cozy textiles, and a display of playful gifts and cards. It's the kind of place where you come in just to browse and end up leaving with something you didn't know you needed. The space itself is warm and inviting, flowers, beautiful lighting, and ocean vibes with a touch of funky charm. The marina is right outside the door, so you get that peaceful, dockside feeling as you shop. The staff was super welcoming and happy to chat. You can tell a lot of love and creativity went into building this space. It's a great addition to the Alameda waterfront.

    Beautiful setup

BEST GIFT BOUTIQUE EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD. Two Marys' and Mercantile is a hidden gem in Alameda, CA. A small business trying to help other small businesses share their love with the community. I purchased two diffusers today: Homme and Fresh Fig. I appreciate boutiques that are owned by relatable and approachable people who are kind and thoughtful. I spent about an hour chatting away with Tiffany while enjoying the aromas of the diverse ray of candles from the "Everything" candle to the candle that had a peony glass jar with a gleeful gardenia scent that reminded me of childhood. It was such a relaxing experience exploring the different scents and feeling memorable textures of the pillows to the cards and stickers. There's so much to choose from with the gorgeous scenery right outside the door and just a quick walk away from Mosley's Cafe for seasonal goodies and delicious drinks. Purchasing from small businesses comes with a price but I do it because I have the satisfaction knowing that big corporations aren't receiving as much support from my piggy bank. Thank you Tiffany and Scott for your commitment to provide a lasting experience to all.

As others have mentioned, this store is gigantic. The last 2 times I've gone in, I immediately…read morelooked for a store employee and then asked that person where the item(s) I was looking for could be found. The first time I tried this strategy, a manager who happened to be near the entrance, walked me all the way back close to the opposite/diagonal corner to see the tub safety mats & shower curtains. (Both the items bought that day have been highly serviceable, still look nearly new.] In the past, before trying this approach, I'd left empty-handed after 15 to 20 min of fruitless wandering. Can't imagine how long it would have taken me to find that area without her help; 5-star service. Today, I asked assistance of someone who appeared to be a clerk and she pointed to the correct area and simply said, "Behind the pole." I went where she had pointed, and when I looked where she'd said, I did find a small section with flatware. Nothing there suited my need. As I was returning to the front, I came upon a snack/treat section and found a bag of dark chocolate-covered cherries marked down to less than 1/2 their original price! Yum! That saved me a stroll over to the See's store down the way AND from paying c. 80% more for chocolate-covered cherries. Yes, I know how good See's is but times are tough... The moral of the story is - unless you have a good, long time to wander around this huge store searching and/or you already know from a previous visit where to find the item/dept. you need - seek out a store employee when you first enter and get directions. Seriously. The checkout was initially a bit slow today but after c. 10-15 min. waiting in line, another clerk came up & the line speeded up.

I'm guessing they've either fixed the problem or you just can't please everyone because they ticked all the boxes today. Firstly, I could not find the duvet cover that I wanted and when I asked an employee, if there were more to be found, she looked a little bit and then said you know what I bet they might be mixed into that sheet area and they were I was able to pick up two excellent queen duvet covers for a guests Everyone knows that HomeGoods is the only place to buy dog toys and they have the mother load in right now. I bought an entire bag full of them for Christmas gifts for friends and family with pets. Secondly, I found something I wanted and looked for about 15 minutes for another item like it because it didn't have a price tag. I braised to have someone roll their eyes when I asked them to price it for me and one of the girls was so great she was gone for a while, but I didn't mind. I continued to shop and she brought the blanket back with a brand new spanking tag on it. Had an absolutely stellar experience with Dion at the register. He had no trouble wrapping delicate fragile items, and in fact insisted upon it. This employee goes above and beyond.

I approached him and said, "I don't know much about gardening and I have a feeling you do! So I'm wondering if you could help me. I have hydrophobic soil, and my lawn is patchy." He said, "Well you shouldda used compost." I said, "Let's try again, and not start with 'you shouldda.'" I smiled and continued, "We had the seed put in in October, and they used compost. We will be reseeding and re-composting in the fall..." He interrupted and said, "Well I have some advice if you would LISTEN." I said, "I'm listening." He said, "I have some fertilizer with soil conditioner." I said, "Well, I used soil conditioner yesterday." I never raised my voice or took an attitude with him. I just said, "You have expertise, right? And I respect your expertise. Well, I also have expertise, in another field, and when people come to me for advice, I don't speak to them this way. So I'm going to leave now. Have a nice day." My grown son was with me. I asked him, "Am I crazy or was that man very rude?" My son said he couldn't believe the way Greg spoke to me. I looked him up afterward to be sure I wasn't naming the wrong person. It was the owner, Greg Dupuich. I will not be returning to this nursery, and I would not recommend going there as a woman. I have a feeling he would not have spoken to a man this way. Greg did not bother to take the time to understand my problem or ask basic diagnostic questions. When I got home I looked up some examples of questions a helpful specialist could have asked: -What is your soil type? -How deep down is the soil dry? -How old is the lawn? -Have you added any bark, mulch, or compost recently? -Have you tried using a liquid wetting agent or aerator yet? -Are you looking to buy a tool to fix this, or a chemical/soil product? Those are the kinds of questions a skilled, knowledgeable person would ask, and I would have appreciated it if he had taken the time. Beautiful nursery, but I will take my business elsewhere.
