Cute shop with nice selection of crystals. I got a few crystals and a bracelet. The woman who was ringing me up asked me if I knew the price of two of the stones. I didn't, so she went to look. The total came out higher than expected, but I waited until I was home to review the digital receipt. Turns out I was overcharged for two of the stones and charged for 8 items when I only bought 7. Could possibly have been a mistake but enough to make me not want to go back. read more

I am writing this review based on the racism that I witnessed and experienced with their new partner Prism: Before the Pandemic, it was just Maker's Loft. A wonderful shop that showcased local artists. I would visit the store with my partner often as I live a few blocks away. I have met one of the owner's of Maker's loft: Rachelle multiple times and she is one of the sweetest and most honest people I have ever met. I was walking through the neighborhood 5/16/2021 (I am biracial and have the privilege of being lighter skinned AND an Oakland Native who has lived in this neighborhood all of my life) with my younger sister (who has a darker complexation than me AND also an Oakland native who has lived here all of her life) and my partner (who is white). We noticed they had their sign on the street saying they were open. We were super excited and wanted to visit. We learned that the store has a new partner and it is now Maker's Loft and Prism. Cool right? No, Not so cool... The only employee in the store was the owner of Prism (a white blonde woman with glasses). As we were all browsing the store, I witnessed how my sister was being watched throughout and then followed around by the new owner to the back of the store multiple times. Viewing this and seeing the look on my sisters face, I walked over to my sister to help comfort her. While the owner stood by, not watching my partner at all in the other part of the store. My sister felt so uncomfortable that she decided to wait outside the store while my partner continued to browse. So as my partner browsed the exact same areas my sister browsed, the Prism owner stayed put not following her around. A completely different experience I felt so embarrassed that this was what my sister's first experience here.. Knowing if Rachelle was there it would not have been like this. I understand being nervous and "protective" of your brand. But the behavior that was displayed is unacceptable. This new partial owner needs to understand people of color live in this community and if she's going to be a part of it, she needs to not be so obvious in showing her racism.. It really pains me to put 3 stars here as this place was well deserving of 5 stars. read more

Absolutely adore this shop! Combining DIY crafts with locally crafted wares from female entrepreneurs creates a refreshing place to explore and create. Maker's Loft has a distinct Oakland vibe that's both welcoming and inspired. Great space to host a birthday party, learn a new hobby, shop, or even network on First Friday's! Love this boutique! This is a hidden gem on a street with some Chinese bakeries and older stores, a true diamond in the rough. They sell local women creations from cards, candles, clothes, and jewelry and they also host crafty events that are great for your next outing with friends or to meet new friends. They also have succulent plants for sale that are always a great addition to a home. The owners are super friendly and super trendy. Love that they are best friends outside of being business partners. I love that they are promoting women creators and supporting other local businesses! Don't bypass this place, I bet you'll find something you like or at least for someone. read more

Super cute store with friendly and inviting staff! Attended a Yelp elite event here and enjoyed the space so much. If I only had a bigger wallet, I'd definitely come here to shop and attend their workshops. Its located in a really random area sandwiched between questionable businesses so its kinda hard to find FYI. Its a small space, but they make do with creating a very aesthetically pleasing store. They host alot of different artsy workshops (not sure about price) and sell a large variety of vintage, handmade items from local vendors. This ranges from clothes, accessories, beauty products, decorations, art supplies, etc...the list goes on. There's a small area in the back to try items on. They also have a small bathroom and sink crammed in the back of the store which is a doozy to get around when its crowded because the sink is in the skinny hallway so it can become a clusterfuck when you're trying to wash your hands and use the trashcan and you get caught between people haha. Like I said before, they do a great job with making the space beautiful, even though its small. Its super clean and doesn't look crowded. It looks so nice, it honestly doesn't look like it belongs next to the other neighboring businesses... Anyway, its a super cute shop that you can spend alot of time browsing in. This is my favorite local boutique to get reasonably priced handmade goods. It's my go to store to get a wide variety of gifts. I've taking many of their workshop classes as well and they are so much fun. They even offer them virtually. I also do a lot of my clothes and accessories shopping here. If you're into art and home decor I'd check this place out too. Ohh.... and they carry the cutest greeting cards all handmade locally. I'd definitely recommend shopping here not only to help local small businesses, artists and makers but because they have thoughtfully curated products you and people you care about will enjoy! read more

I had a great time and was at ease during the workshop and my plant is adorable, I shopped around in the space as well and learned of other workshops they host too. Their soy candles made locally smell divine, I bought 4 because I loved them so much. It is a woman run business in Oakland and features handmade goods from our local area which is great. Hosted an art event with a team here and it was so warm and inviting. About 100 people filtered in and out. We fit a DJ in the corner, refreshments, and art all along the wall. We opened the back up for local vendors! Overall GREAT place to host events. You can move seating outside in the summer for people to hang out, and there's a drop-down canvas and projector if you want! read more

I hosted a Retreat for Women of Color in late March at Maker's Loft. We initially landed on Maker's Loft because of its proximity to bart. It's a quick walk from the 19th street bart station. What I love the most about Maker's Loft is the way the space can be transformed. Previous to hosting my own event, I had been to a series of the events that Maker's Loft hosts. So when my co-host and I arrived for our meeting with Rachelle, the owner, we were excited to discuss with her how we could transform the event space for our theme. Our goal was to create an entire set that looked like a Living Room in a home. What was initially reaffirming was how ecstatic Rachelle was about turning our Pinterest board into reality. Rachelle immediately began brainstorming with us how best to utilize the space, and how she could best assist us with creating the environment we needed for our event. We were able to use both rooms on the ground floor to create two different interact experiences for our guests. We moved in a series of rugs, couches, lamps, and books to recreate both a Living Room and a Bedroom. My co-founder and I loved the finished product, which you can see in some of the pictures I've attached. In general Maker's Loft has great creative potential, which makes it an ideal event space for any occasion. The second thing I love about this space is that even with its depth and size it still allows for a more intimate experience for guests. It was super important for my event that everyone walked out feeling like they had interacted with everyone else in the room it least once. Maker's Loft is definitely a space that I would describe as quaint and is romantic in a very welcoming way. I would love to host another event in this space in the future. A beautiful space holding fun and easy community events. The owner/manager is a lovely person, very friendly and welcoming. I went to a terrarium class and the teacher was helpful, supportive, and nice. All supplies were provided for a low cost. The class was fun and many people from the surrounding area showed up to meet others, have a fun evening, and make a terrarium. I would highly highly recommend this venue and the classes held here for any locals looking for a place to meet new friends, as a date night for couples and families, a great place for large groups, and even fun for kids and elderly to be creative and have some fun. The location is convenient and there is street parking, I recommend using Lyft or other similar ride share services to get here. You won't regret having an event here or going to a class. read more
