So I took my UPS battery backup to the store after its battery failed, thinking I could get the battery replaced. It's a popular model, but they don't carry the replacement. So I bought another one entirely and the price was still reasonable after having the old one for seven years at least. Prices are always competitive at B&H. If Management is reading this, there is one area where improvement can be made. Some products require the coordination of different departments and a person can find themselves on the ground floor asking about the UPS units, then going upstairs to ask about your server racks for future expansion and better cable management, then back downstairs to Pro Audio for further understanding of the racks sold by B&H; a little more information on what UPS and server units might fit a server rack and be best for my needs; and generally how a person could configure a home rack IT system adapted from Pro Audio for whatever a person may have or will expand to have, including modem, router and printer. This kind of coordination among departments without a point person of this type of expertise to address this query and others like it could be improved at B&H. I am certain there are many people who have this type of inquiry and go to B&H for the expertise to make the appropriate purchases. I was okay with what I purchased, which put me in the same operational position I was in before the UPS battery failed. I was back in operation just hours after returning home. However, it would be great if Management reads this and locates the person at B&H who can address my inquiry succinctly without running all over the store. This is not a complaint in this review. On the contrary, I would not even address the Management of other retailers knowing full well there will be no cogent response. B&H is of a different standard and I am confident they will direct me to the right person. Thanks B&H 4.3 stars!

Overall, I felt that he genuinely cares about both the service he provides and the people he helps. Because of this follow-up and support, I am revising my overall experience to a 4-star review. I also hope the company's culture continues to reflect this level of care and professionalism and continues to support both customers and staff. --------------------------------------- Previous review -I brought my MSI laptop to this shop for a lid repair. At the time, there was a small crack on the left side near the hinge, and I was worried it might get worse , but the screen bezel was intact. I was initially told that once the part arrived, they would notify me to bring in the laptop, and the repair would then take about a full day. The part arrived on December 30, 2025, I dropped off the laptop on January 6, and picked it up on January 9. -After I got home, I turned on the webcam to prepare for a meeting, and noticed that the screen displayed a blue image. I contacted the shop immediately. I was asked to bring the laptop back for further inspection, but no explanation was provided regarding the possible cause of the issue. -Since the shop is about an hour away, I asked whether a remote diagnosis could be done first to better understand the situation. I was informed that there would be a charge for that service. At the same time, I looked into common causes of this issue and found that it can result from a protective film not being removed during repair. However, this possibility was not discussed. -If a likely cause had been communicated, it would have helped me better understand whether an immediate return visit was necessary. Without that information, the situation was unclear and required additional time and travel to resolve. -More recently, about four months after the repair, I noticed that the bezel near the hinge has cracked, even though I have been handling the laptop carefully. This area was not damaged prior to the repair. Given that the hinge area is a high-stress point, I am concerned that the repair or reassembly may have contributed to this issue. Overall, my experience was disappointing. While the initial interaction felt welcoming, it was followed by a noticeably self-protective approach when issues arose. Although the repair was completed, I encountered additional problems afterward that required significant time and effort to resolve. Based on this experience, I strongly recommend that others ask detailed questions about the repair process, confirm what testing will be performed, and ensure the device is thoroughly checked at the shop before taking it home. In general, I believe that clear communication and transparency are important in building trust with customers over the long term.

After a sad trip to the Geek Squad at Best Buy where they wanted me to pay a ton of money up front with a 50/50 chance of recovery, I went home and did some research and found SDR. I called them right away, and immediately spoke to Mitchell Moore. I was amazed that I was speaking to a person and not a machine/not being put on hold for ten years. He was so helpful, positive and calmed my nerves. I live in NYC where they luckily have a drop off station, and the hard drive was in their hands the following morning. It took a couple weeks longer than expected, and it was pricey, but everything I needed was restored and in perfect condition! I REALLY appreciate how hands on this company is. They are on speed dial any time you need them. I called almost everyday with multiple questions, even sometimes just saying, 'I'm feeling discouraged!', but Mitchell was always understanding and patient, and never once made me feel like my calling was an inconvenience.     Our family paid $2,247.55 to Secure Data Recovery after being told that the recovery was largely…read moresuccessful. The primary reason for seeking recovery was our family photo collection. The recovered data was delivered in a highly disorganized format that was difficult to navigate and verify. Because of the condition of the recovered files, we were unable to determine whether our complete photo library had actually been recovered. We were told that missing files were likely mixed into the "Lost Files" recovery. After receiving the recovered data, we independently used recovery software costing less than $100 and recovered an intact 810 GB Mac Photos Library with organized chronological browsing by year and month. This recovery was substantially more usable and easier to verify than what we received from Secure Data Recovery. Had we understood that our primary photo library was not being delivered as a functioning Photos Library, we would have evaluated the value of the service very differently. We contacted the company multiple times regarding our concerns, asked questions about missing data, and requested additional assistance. After expressing our dissatisfaction and requesting further help, we did not receive any further response. This review reflects our personal experience and the recovery results we observed.

It feels a bit like a cousin of B&H with a slightly different personality and focus, but the same strong sense of expertise and professionalism. The store is large but not overwhelming, well-organized, and clearly oriented toward photography and content creation, though it also has dedicated sections for musical instruments and scuba gear that make the place feel unique. The scuba area is a little unexpected at first, but I suppose people who love gadgets and gear often overlap with that world as well. I honestly haven't purchased much here over the years aside from a few items, though I definitely bought a PlayStation controller here during COVID. A lot of the appeal for me was simply walking around, learning about new products, and talking with staff who actually know what they're discussing. You really get the sense that the employees are enthusiasts and specialists, not just salespeople. Their pricing also feels very competitive, with an emphasis on staying current and cutting-edge while still maintaining a "money well spent" mentality around sales and service. The atmosphere is calm and professional, and while the store is smaller than B&H or Abt, it's still an excellent size. If you're downtown or near Union Square, it's also much more convenient than heading all the way to the Penn Station area. Highly recommend for anyone into electronics, photography, audio gear, or just technology in general.

    The name is a bit misleading. Yes, they do sell computers and peripherals. However, NYU's…read morebookstore is also at this location. And even calling it a bookstore is misleading, because it also sells NYU shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, and other NYU paraphernalia. Regarding computers, I have noticed that the prices are competitive with other retailers, and when I once purchased RAM for a computer, it was actually cheaper. You will probably get better prices online, but if you need something computer-related immediately, you should check this place out. Textbooks, however... Well, as my dad says, "that's how they get ya'!" They are way overpriced at any university. Unfortunately, the Barnes & Noble on 5th Avenue and 17th St., which used to have decent prices on textbooks, is no more. I loved going there as an undergrad and grad student and saving a few bucks. If you are a NYU student, you are probably stuck getting your textbooks here, unless you shop for them on Amazon or something. On the other hand, you can rent textbooks at this bookstore. I have never rented a textbook before, so I can't say anything about it. There is a regular bookstore, and the prices there are decent. They also sell classics at a discount for $3-$6. The clothing section is pretty good, and the prices aren't bad. Depending on what you get, items can vary from $15 (t-shirt) to $70 or so. They used to have a cafe, but unfortunately they closed it down. However, it is a nice place to visit, especially if you want to pick up an NYU shirt.
