They don't care to work with you and don't honor your requests. I had 2 requests: a lift-gate truck & 3 movers. Tony replies: "got it, no problem, no problem." What the hell?! as a small ramp truck stops 20ft away from the open rollup door with 1/4 of truck already full of boxes. Everything in storage is already boxed up. It's storage to storage. After calling many times and paying amount of $7700, Two weeks later July 8th, at 10:00 am, my home goods are delivered to Michigan. First the driver hit my neighbour's mailbox, only two movers arrived, The mirror on my large vanity was cracked, broken lamp, large picture shattered, my daughter's bed was left unassembled, another mirror broken. I had a 2 bedroom apartment. I was told it would cost $120 an hr for 3 movers. The day of the move they were 4 hrs late. The guy then told me that i have too much stuffs and it would take them 15 hrs to do the job , then disclosed all the hidden charges and wanted me to sign a 15 hr contract. I called the owner to clarify what the guy was saying. Then he was told to charge me per hour. They called in another guy and the per hour rate is now $165. It only took them 5 hrs to do everything. DO NOT HIRE THESE MOVERS. They low ball you with their promise of 140 an hour, 3 hours minimum. They take forever wrapping and moving. And they charge you for everything, the tape they use, the blankets, if your place is 75 feet away from the truck, AND it's 5 percent extra if you don't pay it all in cash. They took 6 hours with our place, which was tiny, had two beds and a tv. And they moved it a mile away. And with all their fees it ended up being 1,445 dollars when the rate times the 6 hours should have only been 840. They seem nice but waste time and rip you off. They appear very nice and professional at the beginning. HOWEVER, they will overcharge you. My brother and I were moving from a small 2 bedroom apartment to another apartment only 1 mile away. We also helped move and unpack a majority of the time. In total it took 6 hours. Initially they quoted us at $140 per hour which SHOULD HAVE equaled $840. When all was said and done, they had several hidden fees. They charged us $175 extra because our apartment was 75 feet away from the street. How is that our fault? They also charge for every piece of tape, box, and shrink wrap they used. It was $45 per roll of shrink wrap!! When all was said and done a job that should have been $840 cost $1445. Last time I moved it was about $800 total. Completely overpriced and a rip off. read more

I have used TLC Movers for over 10 years and without a doubt they are the best local moving company. The owner takes pride in his company and it shows in his employees. I have referred over 20 other of my friends to him. Talk to Tony he is awesome!!! They show up on time, they go above and beyond, and super nice and clean guys. Excellent prices, professional, friendly, great communication and waved fee's. I just had spinal surgery a few weeks ago and needed to hire movers to help me downsize my 10x10 storage unit to a 10x5 to cut costs. Whatever could not fit into the 10x5 I was going to have them take back to my home so I could sell it. Out of the 10 moving companies that I spoke to Tony called first. He was friendly, understanding, helpful and listened to me explain my situation carefully. After I explained that my 10x10 was only 75% full he was confident that he can make everything fit in the 10x5 without me having to sell that much. Tony quoted me his hourly rates which were a lot less expensive out of the 10 competitors I spoke too. When I met Phill and Joseph (the movers) at the storage facility they were very polite and professional. They were sympathetic seeing me in my spinal brace and kept encouraging me to sit down and relax while they move everything while being kind- hearted. To my disbelief, they were able to fit everything in the 10x5 except for a sofa that I knew I wanted to bring home and sell. It's such a relief that I didn't have to sell anymore of my precious things because they were able to fit it all in. They handled everything with care, moved quickly and were patient with me. There was also a miscommunication on my part where I neglected to see a fee that was supposed to be charged to me and Tony ended up waiving the fee. When it came time to pay, he cut another cost as well. I thought this move would cost me a lot more than it did. Everything went as planned and smoothly just like Tony said it would. Great business Tony with TLC was very flexible and understanding with scheduling as I had to cancel and or reschedule multiple times. He was also very upfront about any and all incurring costs which I appreciated. If you need additional items picked up, they offer that as well. They drove to a couple other houses to pick up furniture I purchased and then brought it all back for moving in. Cesar and David were both very kind and quick yet careful with everything they moved. Anytime there was a preexisting mark or damage, they made sure I knew before the item was moved. They even moved my piano which is more or less furniture but it is exceptionally heavy, cannot disassemble merely for the sake of transportation, and it requires extra care and attention being a fairly fragile musical instrument. Tony has contacted me after submitting a quote. At first I was quite impressed with their price and happy that they were able to do the job. After I've sent a picture to Tony of the item that need to be picked up he immidiatly raised the price. Fair enough - maybe it's larger than he though. Then it turns out they don't take card but only cash on the spot. Very strange and qnnoying especially when I can't be on site, but ok. I agreed to pay for an extra driver to deliver the cash for him, and when I request to be notified when the guys leave the pick up spot he tells me I should find another company. Mind you, it's about 12 hrs before they suppose to collect the item. Highly unprofessional and would not reccomend it, you might run into continuous obsticles with this company. read more

In fairness to TLC, not entirely sure how many of my issues may be industry-wide problems. The movers themselves were nice enough and worked hard, though they were an hour late. They also had clearly been trained in the art of upselling. I was moving from a two bedroom apartment to a two bedroom unit in the complex next door. So no loading of the truck or driving, but instead of walking 100 feet or so from my garage to the truck, they walk around 300 feet all the way to my new place. More on the walking later... The movers immediately tell me there's no way they can complete the move in 3 hours (though there are 3 of them). They also "recommend" every single thing be taped and bubble wrapped. Even when I suggested some of the pieces were small or already scuffed and thus not in need of ultra protection, they make you feel a little dumb and urge you to fully protect everything. I also didn't think I had that much to move. No appliances. One of the bedrooms just had a bed (and bed frame), dresser and end table. It wound up taking nearly 5 hours. Of course I now realize that taping and wrapping everything is an excuse to extend the time it takes. They also charge you a steep markup on each roll of tape and wrap they use. Then I get hit with a "long walk" fee. Because I moved next door, and they had to walk my stuff around 300 feet, rather than load it on a truck, drive somewhere, and unload it, there's this extra hidden fee. And it's not like they had to lift my stuff for a longer duration--they just had to roll it farther on a dolly. Why should that incur an additional fee, that escalates with each 100 feet? If you do use them, just make sure you get a detailed quote beforehand. Hopefully that will give me a more accurate sense of what they're actually going to charge you. read more

I wanted to pass this along to you prior to Yelp. I want to start by saying my initial call was pleasant and professional. When I followed up it was the same. The day before my move things changed. I received two hard sell phone calls about adding a third mover. This was not professional and I did not appreciate it. When your movers arrived I was again given the hard sell and impression if I didn't pay for the third they would be moving much slower on purpose. Once I agreed to the third mover is when all the up selling began. Buy some blankets, by some plastic wrap, buy a bunch of tape, where I was changed for more than was used. I was ready to pay when the bill was presented lots of add ons were also included. Twice the drive time, 5 hour minimum. The final straw was when your "supervisor" tried to quilt me into a tip. He explained to the two real workers I was not giving them a tip. I had tipped them moments before since they did all the work they earned a tip. I hope that this email is not in vain. Pls READ before using this company to move you. We called for a quote to move a one bedroom apartment only 3.8 Miles away. They quoted us 3 movers for 3 hours for $360. When Paul showed up in our apartment on moving day, he told us it would take 4 hours. We didn't have a choice but accepted it. We were completely packed and all our stuff were ready to be loaded In the truck. They retaped all of our boxes and cover everything with blankets. I was impressed but didn't know they were charging extra. 4 hours later.. They had just finished loading the moving truck! They left our old apartment at the same time with my husband. The movers disappeared for 2 hours without notifying us. Meanwhile our new apartment was holding the elevator for us to use. They finally showed up and said they were entitled to a lunch break. My husband was calling the TLC office and of course.. Not a return call back. We let them take our things to our new apartment. My husband helped as well. The movers were on their phones constantly and were comfortable drinking all our bottled water without asking! It was finally done! We were slapped with almost a $1400 bill! I can't say enough how AMAZING TLC is... We recently moved from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Not only did they give me an amazing price, they moved my piano and were able to deliver our stuff on the same day that we moved!!! No other moving service was able to offer that. Our movers, Ethan and Hamood, were so accomodating, helped us at every step, and were super professional. The most incredible part about TLC was that we had a huge struggle with getting our funds available at the bank because it was a holiday weekend. After reading some of the negative reviews I was a bit uncertain about hiring them, but it ended up being one of the easiest moves I've ever had (and I've moved around a dozen times) and the ONLY move in which not a single item was damaged. Even our few pieces of IKEA furniture (which their insurance won't cover) arrived at our new home intact. Tomas and the two men with him were friendly, professional and careful. I'd read reviews saying the men deliberately worked slowly to try to run up their hours, but that didn't happen to us. The move took about as long as I would have expected. They packed for us the day before and that took about as long as expected also. TLC was also the only local mover that didn't make a fuss about moving our upright piano. It did end up costing more than I'd anticipated ($2,300 for a local move from a two-bedroom apartment to a house). That included packing service. I went over the invoice and all the charges were legit, so just be aware of the costs for boxes, tape, etc. when booking. If you can pack yourselves you'll save a lot of money.
