We recently became empty nesters and have decided to try one new restaurant each weekend. This…read moreweekend we ended up at Bog & Barley and it did NOT disappoint. The restaurant has a really neat vibe and is decorated better than most of the restaurants in the memphis area. We came at 5:00 on a Saturday night and we were seated immediately without reservations, but when we left, they did have a small wait to get a table. We started with the pimento cheese toastie which was garlic bread with melty pimento cheese on top. We both really enjoyed it. I decided on the filet with peppercorn sauce. I asked for it it to be butterflied. My steak was cooked to perfection with the perfect amount of pink and it sliced like butter. I got the peppercorn sauce on the side and used it for a dipping sauce. I really liked the sauce, but it is really peppery. While I loved it, some might find it a little spicy. My husband had the bourbon glazed porterhouse pork chop. His was cooked perfectly fly as well and was super tender. He really enjoyed it, but mentioned that the sauce did have something in it that gave it a little spice. We shared an order of rosemary duck fat fries as the entrees come à la cart with no sides. The fries re heavy on rosemary which my husband didn't care for. I enjoyed them, but they were definitely not my favorite. Neither of us cared for the mayo sauce that they came with and preferred to eat them with ketchup. Overall it was a great experience and we will definitely be back!

Unfortunately, the food has been consistently underwhelming during my recent visits. I first ordered the lamb chops. They were not what I would consider traditional lamb chops and were surprisingly chewy and difficult to enjoy. I returned and decided to try the Irish Curry Chicken. It was, without exaggeration, one of the worst dishes I've had there. The menu described it as chicken thigh, but it was clearly chicken breast. The dish lacked basic seasoning and flavor. There was very little salt, umami, or curry flavor. The rice was wet, overcooked, and mushy. Overall, the entire meal tasted like something taken from a grocery store freezer section and reheated. At this point, I would recommend sticking to the fries and the burgers, which remain the strongest items on the menu.

But still good Cabbage had a nice bite and was still slightly crisp, needed to cook down a bit longer to lose some of the sour taste. But still good. Mash was fine a bit starchy and heavy but well seasoned. A few tablespoons of butter or cream would have made them perfect. A nice yeast roll on the side. Service is decent not super fast but nice Only downside is the smoking inside. I don't like that otherwise very good

There's nothing like eating a grilled chicken salad dry. Funny thing is, all the people who ordered a salad were in the restroom within the hour with diarrhea. I had the fish and chips. They left out the malt vinegar I requested. Soggy fries were in the same container and we received a roll and a piece of cornbread nobody ordered. Just a total lack of incompetence once more. If this is considered a "neighborhood" restaurant, there's no wonder for sale signs are all in the area. They really need to pay more attention to to-go orders especially when they are getting gratuity. I had to explain to the millennial who picked up our food what Joe Pesci said in "Lethal Weapon 2" in regard about the drive-thru. Needless to say, he never heard of Joe Pesci or "Lethal Weapon." Anyway, Patrick's justs needs to do a better job all around. Everyone else thought their food wasn't fresh. Nothing spectacular. It's a shame they closed Piccadilly down the street because I would have much rather had that instead.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner in its sun room with a neutral natural palette that I once indulged myself at the Rose Tavern in Canandaigua in Upstate New York. That nostalgic feeling of being in a beautiful tavern is pure delight. Absolutely beautiful restaurant, truly deserves limelight recognition in Germantown. Our darling Annalise server was extremely friendly. We loved the presentation of our dinner, but the octopus was a bit soft for our taste. I've had plenty of octopus in other cities and understand the dish is typically more expensive, but a small single mediocre tentacle is quite pricey for $28. I personally prefer a crispy and firmer chew for octopus. The scallops and shishito peppers were a delightful pairing. Valet parking shouldn't be forced upon the customer though? I felt bad that I don't carry cash to tip the valet, and valet is mandatory unless you want to park on the side streets and walk over. Do carry any cash! I wish that a portion of the parking lot was open for self parking though as those boys don't need to help out every guest who don't need valet and subjecting them to wait around for the boys to grab cars that we're perfectly capable of doing ourselves.

We found ourselves waiting about twenty minutes for our server to bring a check. The food was solid, and we all enjoyed the mashed potatoes which were well salted and had a different flavor, maybe lemon? The pimiento wontons were a hit. My beef with this steak restaurant is that there was no host outside the 5th floor elevator at the host stand, so everyone had to meander in to find help to be seated. Also walking through the hotel lobby, the smell is strong- cigarette smoke and cheap cleaner. It bothered me a great deal, but I'm not reviewing the hotel. The guests appeared to be a mix of local cougars at the bar, reservations from within the area, and hotel guests who weren't all necessarily dressed for the occasion. Overall, it was a pretty nice place.
