If I could leave zero I would. Was told I had to return a jewelry item at jewelry counter which was fine. Went to jewelry there was one person being helped. The employee never even acknowledged me. She went to find the item for the other person. Fine. I get waiting my turn. The employee then proceeded to ring up the customer and then went ahead and did the rest of her purchases, about 20-25 items all non jewelry. Then the woman paid her $250 bill with $20 credits. Not once did the employee apologize or acknowledge that I was waiting while she did a sale for mainly non jewelry. The manager came over and grabbed a key but never acknowledged me. Came back about 5-10 minutes later as I still stood waiting. Asked how to help then told me I would have to wait. At this point is was clear I was frustrated after waiting over 20 minutes. The first apology I got but it was only kind of half hearted and at this point it was 25 minutes too late. I have no trouble waiting my turn. But I was there before that sale even started. That employee should've said I'm sorry, but given that there's other people waiting, (myself and someone else behind me) I'm going to have to ask you to make the rest of your purchase at the front of the store. There are so many other TJ Maxx that are so much better than this one anyways. I'd save your time on this one. read more

You have to be equipped with an above-average level of patience to navigate even the best TJ Maxx. This one may require a booster shot. I typically come to browse the beauty section because their deals on hair products and makeup can't be beat. It's disorganized and chaotic. I also recommend having a fully charged smart phone at the ready so you can read reviews of a product online before buying. This afternoon I stopped in looking for a diversion more than anything else. It was mobbed, which I expected on the Sunday of a long weekend. I wandered through the beauty section, shoes, and purses without finding much of interest. I checked out the sunglasses display (I keep breaking mine) and found a decent selection. From there, I browsed active wear and selected a sleeveless top that was a good deal. And then I got in line. Where I waited. And waited. And waited. I'm not sure what the hold up was but I waited more than ten minutes for a cashier with only two people in front of me. I felt sorry for the eight people behind me, including Joshua who *really* wanted gummy candies but his mom reminded him he'd already had a treat today. Although a newish space in a nice location for the chain it's still not one of their nicer stores. Merchandise is constantly scattered and unorganized. They do have the pricing you expect but for some reason this and the previous location it resided in are poorly executed and managed. Still worth sifting through but not one of the best locations I have experienced but still has the deals you desire. GET THE MAX FOR THE MINIMUM. read more

I love this store. Especially in January, March and September because they have crazy good clearance deals. They have a great jewelry section. I've noticed this particular store carries some really good high end stuff, Gucci and Michael Kors. I like the strip mall it's located in bc there is a Trader Joe's and Nordstrom rack in it. My mother and i were checking out A LOT of items and with individual transactions. There was an associate named selma who was working the register-she was extremely patient and kind-overall wonderful person to check out with. I think she was new because she asked her manager follow up questions on the harder transactions but honestly after all the years of going to this tjmaxx, albeit the fact that she may be new, she helped us out wayyyy better than a lot of the cashiers there. read more

I decided to come here yesterday since I don't have any work to do. I entered this store and I saw a lot of discounts. Some of my clothes that I like were not at a discount so they were too expensive. Their sales and discounts are on limited products only. So you're lucky if the products you like are at a discount. They have mens and womens section. There are a lot of clothes to choose from. I went to the hoodies area and I can see a lot of different colors, designs and sizes on them. I purchased a beige plain hoodie. And also I added an anime hoodie to my purchase. I also bought pants, shorts and a shirt. I bought a lot and I paid it at the counter. I'm happy with my purchase. Zoya was totally rude during my return. I had two items to return and one didn't have the tag on it (because it fell off) and was returning it because it had a snag! She totally lectured me on "having a tag attached" and how she was making an "exception". Excuse me? The snag is clear as day. It wasn't worn at all. For me, this is the most convenient TJ Maxx. I use it if I have some extra time to kill and just stop in to see what they have. This is not the best location that I have seen but occasionally I can find something worthwhile. The other day I found a really cute pair of slides so I bought them. Decent selection of merchandise but the staff as a whole is just plain rude. Refused to take back a HomeGoods purchase even though they carry the item and other tjms have taken back the items. They're the same store Then threw away my receipt for another purchase after I turned to put the bags in my cart because "I left"... another worker had to ask for the receipt from the woman who rang me out. If you don't like being treated well- this is the place to go! The customer service is the worst. There were four registers and two of the customer service reps were chatting away at their leisure. As soon as the first one was done chatting, she refused to check us out and was just putting clothes on the hanger. As soon as the second rep Cassandra was done talking to her customer and her customer left we walked over. We didn't interrupt her and were patiently waiting. The light indicates that we can be checked out. She proceeded to give my mom an attitude and said that she needs to wait. She reprimanded her like a child. My mom told her she was unprofessional and then Cassandra walked away from the register refusing to even ring her up. The manager apologized, but it's not enough. Hire good people and if you don't like your job you shouldn't work there. I will not be returning. read more

49 Skokie Blvd. Northbrook IL 60062 Worst customer service ever. I just attempted to return 3 articles of clothing to this store with tags still attached & the receipt. Total was less than $75. The clerk at the checkout advised me that I was past 30 days. Fair enough, all I wanted was a store credit, I didn't want money back. She can't do that. She points to the bottom of the receipt, & says Store Return Policy states "other restrictions apply" on the bottom of the receipt. What restrictions? Where is it posted? How is the customer to know? I asked for the store manager. Manager came up. No, he won't give me store credit "the items are not in the system for this store". I have the receipt AND the tags are attached. He then said, "I can't verify that these tags belong to these products." He walked away from the checkout & headed for the back office! What?!?! Did you just accuse me of trying to scam the store?!?! And you left me standing at the register?!?! If ANY Store Manager in my current company treated a customer in this manner, they would be disciplined & probably wouldn't be holding that title or position for long. I've been in Management for a major retail chains for over 25 years. What ever happened to making sure the customer leaves happy? I truly can't believe that your company would risk the potential of bad press for less than $75. I'm appalled as to how I was treated. I plan on letting EVERYONE I know what happened at this location, how you treat customers, & how uncustomer friendly your return policy is. read more

I love TJ Maxx stores, but the Northbrook location has the rudest employees I have come across compared to other TJM stores. I was yelled at by a cashier because I returned two items on the same receipt at two different times. She wanted to know why I didn't make it easier on her by returning them together on the same day. What? The North Shore clientele is tough, I grew up there. Regardless, if you can't be civil, go home for the day. On the other hand, the merchandise is good quality with good prices. That is why I will continue to shop at TJM, but at the Evanski location where the staff is friendly. read more

I've been a customer at TJ Maxx for years, this is by far the worst TJ Maxx. DO NOT SHOP AT THIS LOCATION!!!! I spent over $500 at TJ Max and tried to return $40 of that merchandise. The manager Joe G refused to return any of it saying that he won't accept returns on anything without a receipt if he no longer carries that item! TJ Max also states that you can return to any TJ Max store - BUT NOT NORTHBROOK Joe states if he can't find it in his local system even though it was within 30 days of purchase he will not return it. He informed me that TJ Maxx has a new policy that if they no longer sell that item and they're sold out, then they no longer accept a return of that product. So Joe G is telling me there's an exception to the policy that's posted on TJ Maxx wall. That if they're sold out and you don't have a receipt you can no longer get store credit. Worst customer service ever .. from a retailer that I have trusted in my home State of Arizona for many years. I purchased a condo within a bus ride from the TJ Max at 49 Skokie Blvd Have been making numerous purchases for my new condo. On May 9,2019 I purchased $377.59 in merchandise at this location and on May 18 I spent another $297.59 at the Vernon Hills TJ Max Today, June 7, 2019 I shopped the Northbrook store at 49 Skokie Blvd for 2 1/2 hours and had a huge shopping cart full of additional items for my new condo, along with 7 items of clothing. I also had a return from my previous trip.. a shower item for removing callouses that came apart the first time it got wet. Probably $2.99 out of my $377.59 in purchases The clerk couldn't find it on the receipt that included 15 items that said BATH SHOP He called another employee by the name of Joe to explain the return. I said to both men, I have presented you with 2 receipts of purchases made in May that totaled $680 .. do you think that I am trying to screw you over for a $2.99 item? Joe replied " Well, you didn't bring the price tag with you..so we have to figure out which item to return " I said " Why would I keep a cellophane wrapper on a pumice bath item?" I said " Why don't you ring up my purchases while someone else handles my refund" He said " There is no one else here" So.. who was Joe, then? He was obviously in the store and an employee. I then instructed the salesman to give me back my 2 receipts and the item to be returned and to check me out for today's items and I will contact the customer service at the headquarters. I had probably another $375 worth of merchandise that needed to be checked out so that I could call an Uber and home. The man continued to scan my receipts. A second time I said ", Give me my receipts and the item and ring up my purchases! I am mad and getting madder. " Again.. the man ignored my request and kept ahold of the item and my receipts. I said " All this over a $2.99 item. He said " It wasn't the same item number for the $2.99 receipt item." I said , " Well there are several $2.00 Bath items... just pick one and let's get going " He said " I can't do that ". I said " Hand me my receipts and the item.. I have asked twice already....I am leaving and I am angry." He finally handed me the receipts and the item and said " NEXT PLEASE" for the next customer as I left half of the items I had already unloaded onto the counter and the remaining in the basket and left the store Such horrible service! read more

I have shopped at this location since the day it opened! My family and I in general are TJ Maxx addicts! We love it!! I had the worst customer service experience tonight! I had bought my fiancé slippers that were too small. I went to return the slippers and an associate Zoya called me over to the register. She was super friendly and an AMAZING woman. She started the return only to notice that the shoes are 2 days over the 30 days return period. She was kind enough to inform me about the policy. I explained to her that I had these shoes in my car for this month and have not had a chance to go to the store. She kindly told me to wait and asked the store manager who was standing next to her, helping another customer. Once the store manager stopped helping the other customer, she came up to Zoya and Zoya asked her what we can do. With out even acknowledging me she directly looked at the recipe and said "no 30 days" and walked away. I found this type of service completely disrespectful and not customer friendly. Zoya then approached her again because I explained to her that I purchased it on my TJ Maxx credit card and am a loyal customer. The store manager made and acceptation. Although the item was refunded to the original form of payment I did not respect not like the lack of customer service that the store manager presented to me. She is not setting a good example for the other employees. Zoya was very patient and understanding. I appreciate her work and because of her I would return. Eri is a disgusting person she's the "coordinator" here and did not want to accept my return because I had tested the product and when she asked me if something was wrong with it I said "no" and she didn't like my answer I didn't know I had to go so in depth on why I want to return a product I simply did not like to get my money back so she says "well next time you cannot return any merchandise you test" I asked where in the policy it said that and she snapped back with "does it look like we can resell this?" I was almost at a loss of words with how uneducated and poor her customer service skills are TJ maxx did a horrible job at hiring this trash I then asked for her managers name and to write it down and she refused to do that! WARNING!! If you are thinking purchasing men's Polo brand shirts think again. I've purchased three shirts, separate occasions, long, short and polo style and each one had a surprising discoloration after first couple washes. And no it wasn't the washing machine...all my other shirts are fine. Seems that the Polo shirts are irregular and have discolorations that don't appear from being washed regularly. This is the most unfriendliest TJ Maxx out there. This cashier (coordinator?) with glasses gave an awful attitude just because I wasn't well informed on the return policy when I was trying to return something. It was my mistake of not returning the item within a month but she could of told me in a kinder manner and not berate me. After she berates me, she still tries to get me to enter the rewards program. I tried telling this to the short manager but it was like talking to a wall. She didn't even look at me and just said " thanks for the feedback" in a condescending tone and quickly walked away without acknowledging what happened. This store has the worst customer service I have ever experienced, I bought boots online, just received them two days ago, when I opened the box I found that the boots had a broken zipper and looked as if they have been worn before, I went to the TJ Maxx store in Northbrook to return this defective merchandize. I explained what happened with the order, first I was very patient but the manager Joe, told me that he could not accept this order because the boots looked worn. On the TJ Maxx online site it says very clearly that you can return items to the TJ Maxx store if ordered online, I tried to reason with him explaining what happened, he looked at me and accused me of wearing the boots and told me to send them back online. I have never been so rudely treated by a manager of the store. I easily spend a fortune at TJ Maxx and so does the rest of my family, after this kind of treatment and customer service, I will never step into a TJ Maxx store again, when they hire such crappy, unprofessional managers, they don't realize that they are turning away thousands of dollars for a $50 boot purchase.
