The chicken was bland - I don't think they seasoned it at all. It also looked bad - just one big white piece of chicken that looked like they just threw it on the grill with no thought. The food was absolutely spectacular -- hands down the highlight of our visit. Everything we ordered was flavorful, fresh, and honestly exceeded expectations. It's clear the kitchen really knows what they're doing. The restaurant was very busy, which I completely understand. I know how overwhelming it can get for servers, especially during rush hours, so I'm always patient with that. That said, the service was just alright. We were a bit ignored at times, We even spoke Spanish since the staff were Hispanic (and so are we), hoping that might make communication smoother, but unfortunately the service still didn't match the high standard set by the food. Best Chilaquiles in Chicago?! While I wasn't impressed overall, I am thrilled that Tiztal Cafe is decidedly NOT a greasy spoon. I'd ordered the ones with chorizo, which was recommended as having the egg and chorizo scrambled together. While not homemade, massive props for them cooking the chorizo beforehand so it isn't swimming in a pool of yellow fat. If only the rest of the meal was as impressive. The resulting dish was made of three disparate parts, plus a salsa. 1. Home baked, crisp tortillas topped with a healthy amount of cheese and a little onion and cilantro. 2. Baked potatoes with a light sprinkle of herbs and salt. 3. Chorizo and egg scramble. 4. Salsa verde - very little, thank you to the server for recognizing how little there was, and offering to bring more. The individual components were just fine, nothing to write home about, but no real complaints, either. However, I feel with chilaquiles, it's about the gestalt. Usually it would be up to the salsa to tie everything together, but, this very mild sauce seemingly made of tomatillo and pepper was too mild to make a difference worth noting, let alone bind its compatriots together. What I did enjoy was the orange juice. It was fresh squeezed, a taste that no brand sold in stores can possibly touch. On the topic of beverages: no complaints with the coffee, and the water was hilariously over-lemoned. The service was friendly, knowledgeable and fairly speedy, considering the freshness of everything. Prices are in line with the market, given the product and location. Final verdict: while I appreciate a focus of reducing grease in chips, potatoes, and meat, Tiztal would be served well by diverting energy towards more cohesive dishes. We got seated outside on the patio. The inside was busy at 11 am on a Saturday. The patio has a nice roof with an attached fan. It was nice and quiet outside. The chicken and steak chilaquiles were delicious. We asked for steaks to be done medium, and they were! The chicken was seasoned well. The spinach and chicken crepe was big and stuffed with generous portions of chicken and plenty of greens on top. The potatoes were also seasoned but not just the typical salt and pepper. I wasn't sure what it was, but it was yummy. All dishes were big and could easily be shared. Pecan waffles had pecan bits mixed in the batter and were soft and huge. It gave waffle a nice flavor. Vampiro drink has beets, celery, carrot, apples, and oranges. The beet and celery flavor came through. I felt like there was a good balance; the apples didn't make it too sweet. The table water was lemon flavored. You could see the pulp floating around in the water jugs. A nice touch! It's very egg heavy - not always great for me - but I had a quesadilla that was very good. The older woman working, not sure if she's the owner, came by and asked if it was our first time dining there. When we said yes, she came back with a bunch of sample cups of their juices and smoothies. The oatmeal smoothie was sooooo good, I am definitely getting that next time. Unassuming on the edge of Andersonville across from Leland park, is the delightfully artistic and authentic breakfast spot providing the Chicago vibe with genuine Mexican flavors. Sandra is so kind and shares a generous demeanor, I really appreciated her attentiveness as I could see she was doing many things at once. She knew I was indecisive trying to pick a smoothie or juice, and she was willing to make me a vampiro juice (beets, carrot, celery, apple) with mango, pineapple, and strawberries. We shared the appreciation of fresh ingredients which you can taste. It was so refreshing! The best way to jumpstart my body and my day, I came back the next day for food too! I only had a few days in the area but if I lived here this place would easily be a regular spot. For food I got the Leslie scramble which was delicious with the salsa verde. The tomatillos really came through. I was able to substitute the toast with fruit for no added charge which was amazing! The potatoes were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft home fry style on the inside. The portions were big and filling. The chorizo scramble was a highlight and with the thin medium steak rolled into the warm soft corn tortillas was a head bangin winner. The cheese baked in was just a heavenly cheese pull. Lastly, the pecan waffle was the perfect amount of not too sweet with a nutty flavor since the pecans were baked into it. A deliciously balanced and unique sweet treat to round out the meal. I asked the hostess for an update and mentioned we were waiting for over an hour. She told me she only sits people when table are open. She showed me her notebook and she had written 3 instead of 5. Keep in mind she had been serving groups of 3 before us to the people that arrived after us. I told her we had 5 people and instead of providing us an option, she turned around and went back inside without giving us an explanation or turning down the party of 5 that arrived after us. Had a very unpleasant experience today. Have been there during the week, and today was a bad choice. It was a 40 minute wait to be seated. My omelette was OK, not very hot. And we waited another 1/2 hour for our food. My friend ordered a crepe, which was not a great choice. However, when we told the waitress, she was not very polite. Tiztal Cafe is the only place I can go for Chilaquiles. I have been coming to Tiztal Cafe for the last 6 going on 7 years and they have remained consistent. I am so happy in this day and age with things becoming more expensive and it becoming easier to cut but on food quality to save money it does not seem as though Tiztal Cafe is taking that route. I love that I still see some of the staff that I saw when I first visited back in 2016. Tiztal Cafe gives you the feeling of a family restaurant even though they get really busy. The staff is always wonderful! No matter how busy the restaurant gets the wait staff is always smiling and patient with everyone. I truly cannot order an entree outside of the Chilaquiles because they make the best on the Northside. I have tried other Chilaquiles around the Northside and always find myself comparing them go Tiztal Cafe that I no longer try. I am happy that Tiztal Cafe still gives you large portions of food. I easily get three meals out of my breakfast. The trick to keep the chips from getting soggy is asking for the salsa on the side. I remember once when they accidentally put salsa on top, the waitress gave me extra chips to take home without me asking. That moment solidified why I keep coming back and telling anyone that will listen about Tiztal Cafe. The amount of food you receive is worth the price. They align with what you would typically see on the Northside. I highly recommend coming to Tiztal Cafe. If you aren't big on crowds, come on a weekday or really early in the morning on the weekend. We both got coffee, then I got a strawberry, peach, pineapple smoothie w apple juice base. I wish I could have this smoothie daily, it was so good!! Tiztal Cafe is a cozy venue on Clark that offers daily breakfast and lunch throughout the week. The menu features hearty American fare with a Mexican twist and a lot of red or green Chile and chorizo scattered throughout. You can also get traditional items such as waffles and French toast as well. I chose the chorizo scramble, loaded with four eggs, cheese, cilantro, sour cream, chorizo sausage and a nice homemade sauce. All of this came with four corn tortillas and included American fries as well. The eggs were delicious although slightly overdone, and the potatoes were perfectly executed with a soft interior and crispy skin. Everything came out of the kitchen piping hot. Service was fantastic as well. They didn't have any open seats for a single diner so they cleared space at the bar for me to sit. Great folks, fast service on a busy Sunday morning. This is a keeper. So glad we stomped on this place because we were happy. We sat in the back patio around 10 AM and by 11 it was packed. The service was top notch. My coffee was always topped and warm. As a sleep deprived parent, what more can I ask for? Just kidding. I would have expected the food to be good and Tiztal delivered! The food came out so fast and was so fresh tasting. I've had better, and I will say that the chilaquiles were pretty salty. The potatoes and even steak that I ordered on top of it were salty as well. I was good, don't get me wrong, but I may need to ask for them to use less salt next time I go. My friend got a side of pancakes and the Country Breakfast platter. I didn't try his food but overall said it was good. I'll have to come back and try the other things. We were lucky that we only waited about 3-4 minutes for a table to get cleared off on a Sunday around noon, but this place gets very much, so just be prepared! read more

Crispy potatoes and chips on the chilaquiles, mild and flavorful salsa verde and big ol pieces of steak! Wash it down with a giant fresh squeezed frozen lemonade or my fav, creamy oatmeal shake! The restaurant is small so you'd want to get there early or an hour before closing as they don't take reservations, but you do get seated quickly. Their Meat Lovers omelet was absolutely stacked, and might have been the largest type of egg dish I've ever seen at any restaurant. I also love their Greek/gyro omelets they have on their menu as well! Real filling and savory, perfect for a low to no carb breakfast! Tiztal is also known for their freshly made juices that are blended in-house. This is actually part of the restaurant's roots, as they started out as a juice shop in the Logan Square 'Megamall' before its untimely demise. 16 years later it's amazing to see Tiztal thriving as a popular Uptown establishment. We came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. This place is very small with all the tables being occupied when we arrived. We didn't have to wait long for a table either. As soon as you sit down and they someone with a pot of coffee ready to serve you coffee. Definitely my kind of place. The wife and I both ordered their chilaquiles. I ordered mine with chorizo which was supposed to come scrambled. I wait to get our food was longer than I would have liked but when we received our order, both of our entrees were the same. Chilaquiles with no meat. When I mentioned to them that I had ordered my with chorizo, they took the plate back and added chorizo to the top of the plate instead of making them scrambled. I was honestly fine either way. We were just finishing up with our food when our server came with another plate of chilaquiles with scrambled chorizo. I'm not sure where the mix up was, but it was definitely not on me. She told me we should have spoke up and refused the original plate. I told her I did; they took the plate and added chorizo on top. The chilaquiles were good though. They were served with fresh tortilla chips and green salsa, topped with chihuahua cheese and served with potatoes. It wasn't too spicy and the sauce tasted great. My only issue is that our server didn't come to check up on us. Had she came earlier when we record our food, I would have been able to explain to her what had happened. She unfortunately didn't come until the very end only to give us another plate. I will definitely be back though. read more

Tiztal is one of the best places to have breakfast and/or brunch in Ravenswood! What you should know: you can't make reservations so come early on the weekends or prepare to wait, order any of the chilaquiles dishes and thank me later, the oatmeal granola shake is the go-to for those with a sweet-tooth, prices won't make you cry tears later and service is super quick and friendly. When I visited on a Saturday, my boyfriend snd I had a 45 minute wait after putting our name and number on the list in person. We ordered the oatmeal shake, eggs ranchero, the steak and eggs chilaquiles and in my opinion the chilaquiles were much better, though the ranchero was solid. From the outside exterior I really didn't know what to expect from this place. It was in the middle of summer and My friend Diana invited me out for breakfast. Going into the front entrance the venue was quite empty what I quickly found out all of the action was in the patio area. Tiztal Back environment was very inviting super cute and the day we decided to go was perfect weather. The wait staff were very professional and nice. The venue has a bit of a Hispanic feel to the restaurant I remember a really cool sculpture on the wall. I got stake and eggs with French toast. Wow yum! My friend took me here because she has always been raving about the chilaquiles. It was a rainy Saturday morning, so it felt like the perfect weather to eat something warm! There was a wait, and the waiting space is really small. Thankfully my friend had an umbrella we were able to share while staying outside. The estimated wait was 40 minutes but I think we only ended up waiting 25 minutes! I am a sucker for chorizo, so of course I opted for the chorizo chilaquiles. Been here so many times for their shakes, what can I do, these shakes are healthy and nutritious and oh so good!! They draw me close whenever I'm in the vicinity. I'm stuck on my favorite which is the blueberry, banana with either oatmeal or granola. The shakes are so thick - I usually skip breakfast before coming here.
