Due to my job and a family emergency, I needed a distribution from the account. I explained to them it was urgent. This was on a Tuesday and they explained that the funds should be showing "pending" in my bank account by the next morning. I didn't see anything Wednesday nor Thursday. So Thursday, I went into my bank (*insert shameless plug for the wonderful service at CAPITAL ONE). I wondered if they could see something I couldn't. They didn't but they sat with me until we got someone from TD Ameritrade on the phone. It took 2 transfers and a second call but we finally got someone who said they needed some additional verification and they had contacted me and not heard back. They did NOT contact me; all they did was put some message on my account and I had no reason to think I needed to go back online and do anything because I had done the whole transaction IN PERSON with an agent who should have been able to verify anything he needed to. Finally (this after about 40 minutes), we got it straightened out and they agreed to wire the money so it would get into my account that evening or no later than the next morning (Friday). Guess what? Friday afternoon - still no money! And Friday was my deadline! So, once again, back to Capital One and back on the phone with TD Ameritrade. Again, about 30 minutes later, we find that they wired the money to some bank in Louisiana (I'm in Texas)! Once again, we got it straightened out and got the wire transfer sent to the right bank. I finally did get my money on Monday, almost a week late and it would've cost me quite a bit of money had Capital One not helped me out. Bottom line, TD Ameritrade is too incompetent to handle your money. They don't have any respect for you nor for the problems that their bumbling employees or their convoluted system might cause. I got a half-hearted apology and nothing else. This could have cost me several hundred dollars. The only acceptable solution in my mind is for TD Ameritrade to pay me what they would've cost me. Never mind, I'm small potatoes to them so their refusal to recognize how serious their mistakes were and adequately compensate me for what it cost me is going to cost them $35,000. Their loss, Capital One or eTrade's gain!

I had Germania for my insurance for my homeowners policy for my home in Round Rock. I recall switching to them because they were the cheapest policy I could find...well, you get what you pay for! I have been SCREWED twice by this company. 1. We received significant hail damage to our roof from hail storms. The adjuster came out and said we just needed to patch the roof. This was the 2nd time we had a leak and we were told by 3 contractors that our roof was borderline from numerous Central Texas Hail Storms and it should be replaced. When the adjuster met with a contractor he learned that the shingles had been recalled and therefor said the hail damage didn't matter and denied our claim. The shingle recall had to do with installation. Our roof was leaking from hail damage and the contractor said our roof issues did not stem from the installation but from hail. 2. My BIGGEST problem is with Dennis Schmidt. He runs a "one man show" with no one else in the office. His lack of support staff left me blind sided with a cancellation of my policy: We moved out of our home and into a new construction build in April 2011. We opted to have State Farm insure our new home since I was not pleased with the service we received from Germania. I called Dennis in July to inform him that the Round Rock home was vacant, on the market, and would likely close in August, just at my renew time. I wanted to make sure that when the policy renewed I wouldn't have to pay for the insurance on the property since that was being insured at the new house. Dennis sent me the appropriate information and he said "he'd take care of it." Underwriting came back and said that we had to keep our house coverage at $167K even though the house was on the market for $135 and the tax appraisal was $127. Dennis told me that was the way it was b/c rebuilding the home in case of loss was $167K--which didn't make since to me since the tax appraisal also included the lot. Okay, I figured it was no biggie b/c I only had to insure it for a few more months. Fast forward to today. I called to tell Dennis that our closing had been pushed back a few days and not to cancel the policy until then. He said "oh, that policy was cancelled on the 7th." WHAT?!?!?! I had no idea the policy was cancelled, not to mention I called TWO weeks ago to tell him to cancel the policy on 8/31 b/c we were closing. I asked for him to call and confirm and let me know if there was anything I needed to sign. He claims they mailed me a cancellation notice at the end of July. Here it is 8/30 and I had no idea that my house has been uninsured for 3 weeks!!! I was livid. I asked Dennis why he didn't call. He said he had surgery and wasn't in the office. That's right, his company was not managed at all while he was out! No call, no follow up, NO COMMUNICATION! Now I'm praying that my house doesn't burn down in the next few days b/c if it does I loose everything! Bad business folks! I have a network of people I can call on to step in if I have an emergency so that my clients aren't left hanging. Not Dennis. Don't trust Germania because in the end you will pay money only to be screwed time and time again!
