I was in town for a family reunion when about 30 minutes left in my three hour drive to town, my car started making a weird noise. I would only be in St. Augustine for 24 hours, but I was going to have to make a six hour drive after the reunion. So, I wanted to get a diagnostic on my car as I was worried the noise belonged to a problem that could cause my car to breakdown on my drive. My aunt who lives in town recommended this place to me. I made an appointment online for 8 am the next day, and it was super easy. I got there right when they opened and as I was walking in, I noticed they were already getting pretty busy. There were four people in front of me in line and three people behind me. However, they were quick and efficient. I told them my issue and what I wanted, and dropped of my car and was out of there in 5 minutes. At 1:30 I got a call about what the problem was; it was my compressor. They said it needed to be replaced or recharged, but I had it replaced in September. So they went ahead and recharged it, but at 3 pm, I got a call that it didn't work and should go back to where I got it replaced. They were very nice and when I went to pick up my car, they didn't charge me a thing!!!! I also noticed once I left that they filled my tires with air. They were awesome. read more

This review is also for the Palatka location! I purchased new tires and had them shipped to the downtown location. I asked them to check my alignment and price a couple other things as well. After sitting for a couple hrs, the tires were done. They quoted me on something entirely different and didn't even look at the alignment. The girl said "we will check all that when you come back for the brakes". I left and went back to work. On the way home, my tires were shaking. I made an appointment at the Palatka location, as it was closer and I didn't want to return downtown. They told me my tires were NOT balanced properly and I definitely needed an alignment. I took another day off of work. After 5 hrs of sitting there till closing, they gave me my truck back and said "we fixed the balancing and we are sorry, but the alignment we tired, but you need cam bolts so we couldn't complete it, but we will price it and call you"! I said I just need it done. I don't need it priced as I couldn't imagine it being drastically more. These tires cost me $1300 of money I didnt have and I didn't want them ruined. I left there and my steering wheel was at 2pm! The alignment was WORSE! After a week of not hearing from them, I called and was on hold for a while then disconnected. By the time I was able to get the time off of work again and bring it somewhere else, my two new front tires were shot! I got the alignment somewhere else but unfortunately don't have another 600-700 with installation to replace my tires again so I've been driving long distance, a while on a bad tire. I am so disappointed with this company. If you are a tire shop and cannot balance tires or perform a simple alignment. How are you even in business? Now I will be just under $2500 for tires and alignments when this is all done, due to their negligence. I pulled in the tire outlet a few weeks ago because my tire was rapidly dropping pressure. I dropped it off and they said they would fix it. They never called me back and ended up being into the next day. When I went to go pick it up they said it would be free and didn't give me any paperwork. I was happy about that until I got half a mile down the road and had, a complete blowout causing me to have to pull over on the side of the road and put on my spare tire. I immediately went back. Manager was kind of dismissive and said oh you have another piece of metal stuck in your tire. That's when the mechanic came out and said, "you gave that back to the customer? I wasn't done with that yet. I told you that there were, two holes in the tire that needs to be repaired. "They sent me down the road with a tire that was about to blow out. It could have caused an accident. Then they told me that I had to buy a new tire. They still didn't give me any paperwork and it took them three weeks. They never called me back and I had to keep calling back over and over and over again. They gave me a little bit of a discount on the tire, but it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. The management team is absolutely worthless. And I would warn anyone before going there. I'd rather go to Walmart, and for me, that is a lot. read more

Like most people - whenever you come to a place like tire outlet it's never the best of news. Being that I'm from NYC, I have had my share of mechanics trying to hussle me when it comes to my car. However I must say, everytime I have come in here like today- they have always been professional, and helpful in answering any and all questions concerning my car. They are not expensive and their labor charges are way better than any dealer you can go to. I went to the Kia dealer recently and just to see what the problem was it was $120.00. I had a similar situation pop up with my other car and for free they looked at it and help me diagnose the problem. They are trustworthy and professional. Give them a shot!! Several months ago I took my z-71 in for some Tires and an alignment. I was told I needed lower ball joints. I decided to get a couple more opinions. (I had these looked at by two separate reputable shops and an independent. They all stated the ball joints were fine and it was the struts. The struts were replaced) As an owner of several businesses we've used old city tire on several occasions. We've always had such a good experience I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and have them do the alignment. Today is the last day unfortunately. I had one of my project managers take the vehicle in for an alignment. It was dropped off and a few hours later I received a call from a gentleman who stated he was the manager. He explained that the lower ball joints on both sides were faulty. I let him know that I would give him a call back. I called both shops and asked them again if they saw any reason to change the lower ball joints. They both said absolutely not. I called back on again. I once again gave the benefit of the doubt and ask how much it me the price and I explain to him that replacing the lower ball joints of the other two shops was $140 less If I wanted them to do it even though they said I did not need them. The manager told me that he doesn't like being called a liar. I asked who called him a liar as I've never stated that and even responded with. I never called him a liar. In the end this turned into a time suck to the point we have picked up our vehicle taken it to another facility only to find out from them the ball joints are in fact in hood working order. This is a real shame as previously stated this was our goto for these types of repairs and now I'm left wondering how many repairs we've paid for that were not in fact warranted. read more

A week and a half ago, I took my car in for two front tires and an alignment. I was going out of town with my kids the next day and wanted to be safe. Once on the road, I noticed my steering wheel was not straight. When my car got up to 50 miles per hour, the front end began very badly shaking. My hand on the steering wheel was vibrating. I was very afraid for our safety. On Monday, Melvin at Old City Tire was called to alert him of the situation. I was going to have to take off work again to bring the car back to them to have them rectify this issue with the tires and the alignment. When I returned in the afternoon to pick up the car, Melvin assured me the steering wheel was straight and no problems could be found with the new tires, the balancing, or the alignment. On my way back to work, GUESS WHAT....my steering wheel was still the same. When I arrived back at work, I called Melvin again. I asked why my steering wheel was still not straight. Melvin stated that I should have had all four tires replaced due to wear on the back two. When I inquired as to why this was not mentioned or recommended verbally or on my bill, he had no explanation. He did state that his "guys don't always follow through or do what they are supposed to do." I did not have any vibration in my car prior to having the new tires put on. Melvin assured me one of his "better" techs actually checked the balancing and alignment to find no problems. Melvin stated "I find it hard to believe your steering wheel is still not straight." Why would I lie about that fact? Anyone can see this. It should have been checked, especially when that is part of the reason I brought it back. When I asked to make an appointment this week to come in to wait to have the alignment RE-re-done, he said I could make an appointment but they mean nothing. I will still have to wait in line. I HAVE ALREADY HAD TO TAKE OFF WORK FOUR TIMES, HAVE SOMEONE GIVE ME A LIFT TO AND FROM THEIR SHOP AND MY CAR IS STILL NOT RIGHT!!!!!! THIS HAS COST ME 4 HOURS FROM WORK AND YOU CANNOT MAKE ME AN APPOINTMENT????? Melvins' response was "Your work situation is not any concern of mine." This was repeated several times by Melvin. So now I will have to take off another hour to drop my car off, another hour to pick it up and HOPE it will be done properly. SO Ladies, if you want to be talked down to, patronized, and treated poorly, please go see Melvin. The kicker to this story is that Melvin IS THE MANAGER and still talks to customers that way. Never was an apology given for my having to return so many times, for my time off work, for my gas, for my fear of driving with kids in the car with it working improperly. I called to speak with a District Manager. I also attempted to contact the corporate office. NOONE FROM THE CORPORATE OFFICE EVER CALLED ME BACK. The district manager did eventually call me back. I was encouraged to go somewhere else to have my problems rectified and send them the bill. read more

Old City Tire is just that. They sell unused "OLD TIRES" as new tires. We purchased four "new " tires for my daughters car for her commute to college. Unfortunately, after a short time the sidewall started to peel away. The tred is fine but the sidewall is gone. When confronted with the issue, they stated that we could not prove that we were sold old tires as new. We confirmed the age of the tire at "tire kingdom" as 2008, a four year old tire. WOW. If that isn't putting your life in danger, you could have a blow out at anytime especially in this heat on a compromised tire. Took over an hour to change one tire, told me it was done and went out to leave and the tire was completely flat. Took them another 45 min to change that tire out and offered no apology or compensation, would've settled for just an apology but got nothing. Pricing was good and people were polite though. Just listening through what the employees were talking about I kept hearing the the counter guy apologizing to other customers for mistakes and getting into another employees for a poor Job on another vehicle, a trailer that needed new tires was done incorrectly. I bought new tires and had the front bearings packed on my 1982 GMC. The price I paid for the no name tires was high, but not too bad. However, when I got the truck back it pulled hard to the left when the brakes were applied. So hard the steering wheel would spin under my hand. They said it was a coincidence. After a bit of complaining, they pulled the wheel and reassembled the caliper. It seems to be fixed, but never a woops or sorry or anything. Last dollar they get from me. I will never do business with Old City Tire again, after generations of our family farm using nothing but Old City Tire. If you don't like giving your money to an owner that doesn't care, at all, about you or his employees, this is NOT the place to go. Old City was bought by a new owner two years ago. Since then all long term employees have fired. This owner managed to KILL a business, take away livelihoods and destroy the Mom and Pop icon known as old city tire in St. Augustine. Under the new ownership, one employee was fired for smoking in the designated smoking area, for his 1st break of the day, 4 hours into his workday. Another was fired after returning from work comp due to a broken foot, which happened while on the job. Another was left for dead on the side of the road after not returning from a service call. Instead of tracking his route and checking on his well being at the end of the business day, they locked the doors and went home as this man (a LONG term employee), laid on the roadside with a stroke. Word has it that ever since the long term management was fired, you will spend hours getting a tire plugged or a valve stem changed. God help you if you actually need a set of tires installed. The new management is not friendly and customer service is horrible. What used to be a very busy lucrative shop is now left with hardly any business at all. The empty parking lot tells the story. We were on vacation and our car's tire pressure sensor lit up. We stopped by to have them check the tires, we thought we might have a puncture. They took the time to check each tires pressure and found that they were under inflated. They filled up each tire to the necessary pressure and sent us on our way. My family and I have purchased our tires at Old City Tire for years. However, after recent purchase with them, we will no longer use them, nor recommend them to anyone. Their customer service is nothing like it used to be. We recently purchased 4 tires from them, had an incident with one of the tires and needed another one. We asked for the same brand as the other ones, ordered it because we were told they don't keep those in stock, and ending up with a DIFFERENT brand. When confronted with this problem, the staff at Old City Tire was rude, condescending, and flat out lied to our faces. They had the one we ordered but only admitted to it AFTER exposing their untruths. This business has been sold and the new owners do not care about you or your safety. Went in for an alignment and two new tires. One month later we had two completely bald tires and the bushings were bad with the tow had over an inch of play. BEWARE. Poor business practice and customer service. I had lost tire pressure and needed to replace both front tires asap. Went to Ol' City T. They had to special order tires for my Honda. I did not have the time to wait for 5 hours nor could I have driven the car. They talked me into purchasing 2 used tires. Employee:"They are almost BRAND NEW!" lol. I drove off the lot with my new used tires. After about 3 miles the low tire pressure light came on. I went back immediately. They said I had a TINY hole in one of the rears. They "plugged" it. I paid. I drove away and a few miles later the low pressure light was back on. I took it back and they said I damaged the tire and showed me a small bulge and a small cut in the side of one of the used front tires they had sold to me. They put on another used (almost new) tire and charged me for all three visits.....I had no choice since I needed the car. I would have been the first to admit that I scraped a curve, etc, etc. I did not touch a thing.....I was pretty contained but very upset when I left. I guess they lost a customer forever and I will not recommend them to anyone. read more

I had a screw in my Jeep tire, but was unsure of the depth or if it was causing leaking or posed any danger. I brought it by Old City Tire and two really nice guys immediately took a look at it for me. They tested it before and after removal and said the tire was fine.
