Tire worn down from poor alignment
George T.

This review is also for the Palatka location! I purchased new tires and had them shipped to the downtown location. I asked them to check my alignment and price a couple other things as well. After sitting for a couple hrs, the tires were done. They quoted me on something entirely different and didn't even look at the alignment. The girl said "we will check all that when you come back for the brakes". I left and went back to work. On the way home, my tires were shaking. I made an appointment at the Palatka location, as it was closer and I didn't want to return downtown. They told me my tires were NOT balanced properly and I definitely needed an alignment. I took another day off of work. After 5 hrs of sitting there till closing, they gave me my truck back and said "we fixed the balancing and we are sorry, but the alignment we tired, but you need cam bolts so we couldn't complete it, but we will price it and call you"! I said I just need it done. I don't need it priced as I couldn't imagine it being drastically more. These tires cost me $1300 of money I didnt have and I didn't want them ruined. I left there and my steering wheel was at 2pm! The alignment was WORSE! After a week of not hearing from them, I called and was on hold for a while then disconnected. By the time I was able to get the time off of work again and bring it somewhere else, my two new front tires were shot! I got the alignment somewhere else but unfortunately don't have another 600-700 with installation to replace my tires again so I've been driving long distance, a while on a bad tire. I am so disappointed with this company. If you are a tire shop and cannot balance tires or perform a simple alignment. How are you even in business? Now I will be just under $2500 for tires and alignments when this is all done, due to their negligence. I will never return and I hope I can prevent others from wasting time and a lot of money with them!

This is what their incredibly poor service caused.

I pulled in the tire outlet a few weeks ago because my tire was rapidly dropping pressure. I dropped it off and they said they would fix it. They never called me back and ended up being into the next day. When I went to go pick it up they said it would be free and didn't give me any paperwork. I was happy about that until I got half a mile down the road and had, a complete blowout causing me to have to pull over on the side of the road and put on my spare tire. I immediately went back. Manager was kind of dismissive and said oh you have another piece of metal stuck in your tire. That's when the mechanic came out and said, "you gave that back to the customer? I wasn't done with that yet. I told you that there were, two holes in the tire that needs to be repaired. "They sent me down the road with a tire that was about to blow out. It could have caused an accident. Then they told me that I had to buy a new tire. They still didn't give me any paperwork and it took them three weeks. They never called me back and I had to keep calling back over and over and over again. They gave me a little bit of a discount on the tire, but it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. The management team is absolutely worthless. And I would warn anyone before going there. I'd rather go to Walmart, and for me, that is a lot.

Pulled this out of my tire!

What to do when you're on a road trip far from home and your tire is flat? Well panic was my first response but once sanity prevailed I got a temporary spurt of air from my hotel and headed to Old City Tire. Definitely not the fancy type of garages I'm used to but these guys know tires! They've been in business a long time, have decent prices and made me feel comfortable from the time I pulled in (no small feat for this big city girl who relies on her car to work!) And the price? Just $15 for the repair (clearly I'm not in Chicago anymore!) I was in and out in no time and reassured that all was well so I could continue on my journey. If you find yourself in St. Augustine and you need tires- this should be your go to spot!

Bogus road hazard warranty sold here! Go elsewhere if you can! They won't cover the warranty that I purchased with the tires.

I had a terrible experience here and strongly advise against going. I came in with a screw in the…read morecenter of my rear tire and made an appointment based on the mostly positive reviews. Despite there being seven employees and only one other customer ahead of me, I waited 90 minutes while three technicians stood around smoking, staring at their phones, and lying on stacks of tires. When I finally got my car back, I discovered they hadn't actually repaired the damage. Instead of plugging the screw in the center of the tire, they plugged a completely different spot. Worse, they rotated the damaged tire to the front, making it seem like they had done the job. I had marked the damaged area of the tire before bringing it in, so I know for a fact that they worked on the wrong area. They charged me around $30, but I have no idea why they rotated my tires without charging for that--or why they didn't actually patch the right spot, which was just a small screw in the center of the tread. When I called to speak with a manager, they put me on with the same receptionist who had been training the day before. When I went back in person, I had to explain myself multiple times before someone finally acknowledged they would look at it. A guy eventually offered to fix the issue, but by that point, I had zero confidence in them touching my vehicle again. I was so frustrated and shaking--I just wanted to get out of there. Now, I'm up the road getting it checked out, and because they plugged the wrong spot, the tire can't be properly repaired. I have no choice but to replace it. I'm now opting for two new tires and a tire alignment--so what should have been a simple $30 repair is now costing me over $800. I don't know if this was incompetence, miscommunication, or something worse, but I wasted two days dealing with it, and now I'm paying the price. Avoid this place.

I found out that I had a flat tire at 5am this morning. Had to bring family to Tampa and decided to…read morebe at Mavis at 7.30 am. They open up at 8. The "manager" was there and after explaining it was a bit of an emergency he said, my guys will be here at 8". No problem, I will wait. They took my car on the lift at 8.05 and started working on the flat tire. So I thought. At 8.45 I look in the workshop and the hood is open. A mechanic is checking the front brakes etc etc. I ask why the hood is open for a flat tire? "We always do a multi point inspection sir!" So I asked if I gave them permission to do this as my car just had a full service of 800$ at my dealer one week ago. The front desk told me that this is State regulation. What???????? There is only one person that gives you permission to open up the hood for an inspection and that's me! What a bullsh!t nonsense. When I said you only do this to upsell me things I don't need they became angry. Well so did I......... very angry. I told you I was in a hurry and you just wasted 45 minutes without telling me. Another customer came in and he was told they would do the inspection. The guy laughed and said, no way (as well) When I (once again) spoke to the front desk guy and told him I was not pleased he pissed the payslip under my nose and did not want to talk to me anymore. That made me even more angrier so the manager threw me out! I went to Mavis with 3 of my cars since they opened up in St Augustine. They never did this in the beginning. They lost a good customer for ever!!!!!!!!! By the way their hourly rate for a mechanic is 158$ per hour. You better realize this! This is close to what a consultant charges per hour! I HAVE to give one star, but none would the best here. UPDATE: I FOUND OUT 3 HOURS LATER THAT THE TIRE IS STILL LEAKING. My advice, avoid the place at any time! LAST UPDATE (I promise) I called Discount Tire on the 16 in St Augustine. I could come bevrucht away. Arrived and was shocked. Min 50 customers, full workshop. Iff course...... they are next to the I95 on the Saturday after Christmas! I thought, this will cost me the rest of the day. Very, very friendly staff. And honest. Within 20 min the technician called my name. He's ready. Huh? Yep, there was a hole in the center of the tire. Easy repair. So Mavis screwed this one up completely! I got ready to pay and thanked him for the quick service. No need.... It's free. Excuse me? No not charge for this. Unbelievable. So I tipped the guy 20$ and left as a happy bloke. Guess who will do my tire stuff from now and won't? Exactly!

I missed the call so I returned to them thinking they were calling to tell me my car was ready. Wow was I wrong!! I returned to find my car on the lift w/all 4 tires off!! They told me they did an inspection (which I never asked for) and said, based on the manufacturer's recommendations, suggested I do a whole host of things from struts, shocks, to radiator flush's and much more, totaling $2300!! At this point the oil change still wasn't done! Fortunately I know something about cars. This is how you take advantage of seniors and those who are not knowledgeable with cars. Be careful when going there, you might get more recommendations$$ than you want. Never again will I come here!
