Fred's Tire Discounters If you are a woman beware. I would strongly advise not doing business with Tire Discounters (formally known as Fred's tires). This used to be the only place I would use but always would have my Dad take my vehicle. I called to make an appointment to see why my air conditioner was not working. I called a few days prior and was quoted $280. On the day of my appointment the 4th of April, I had made to have my air conditioner checked due to it not cooling. I arrived on the 4th and the man explained that they would only charge me for the Freon that needed to be added. After they took my truck back. They advised me that my hoses and everything was good and the Freon was good but my compressor had went out. I asked them how much that would be. They told me they would not be able to fix it that day even though the appointment was at 9 AM that morning. They quoted $1300 for the compressor and having to charge the system again. So once I went inside the office, I found how they had charged me for draining my lines and charging a system of $400 prior to checking my compressor. After talking they agreed that was not right and they were going to refund my money. After giving the run around for 3 days and the refund was not returned to my card, I sent my Dad up there to handle it. They told him it would be returned by April 11th and if not to come back up there. On April 13th he went back up there and was told by Kim to give it until April 25th, they were either going to refund back to the card or send a check in the mail by April 25th. When I didn't receive either one my Dad went back up there on April 27th and was told by Kim that they were not going to refund the money. It took them 3 weeks to give me the run around and then refuse to refund my money. I advise you to find somewhere else to do business. Do not take your car here, they do not know how to balance tires, They had 15 weights in one side of tire and 5 on other side and had them stacked so the scrubbed rotor. I drove off and turned around because of scrubbing noise and he took the stacked ones off . I got home and did some research and this is a road hazard having 15 weights on one side and 5 weights on other side, tires were not to spec my TPI indicator was on because tire pressure was only 25 in 2 tires and 30 in others. We wanted 2 tires mounted and balanced and car aligned and we got this. They tried to upsell me on breaks and said my caliper was going out! We told him we have a mechanic for that and he got nervous and told us no charge for work! I took car to Walmart and they said who ever balanced the tire literally didn't know what they were doing. read more

Dropped my truck off at 10am on Wednesday for an oil change and fuel filter change. Did not get it back until 2:40 pm on Thursday. Charged me $271.00. Diesel oil change advertised for $129.00. 10 year customer but this plac has not been the same since Fred Sr. and Fred Jr. retired. All you hear is excuses for how long it takes to get anything done. Excuses, not enough mechanics, only one mechanic that knows how to workl on a diesel, etc. Last time I ever use them. read more

If I could rate my experience at this location it would be - 0 stars. I was visiting from Maryland and took my 2011Hyundia Genesis to Fred's Tire Discounters (Kelly's) Columbus, GA on October 16, 2023 for what I thought would be routine front & rear brake pads replacement. To my surprise, I ended up replacing the front calibers damaged by them. They then gave me a quote to replace the calibers but later informed me that no one (their distributors) had them in stock. What (my reaction)? So I actually had to locate and order them on my own. Once they were received and installed, my car still wasn't correct. After several days while still in Fred's possession, their supposedly expert technicians could not figure out the problem. So finally It was suggested from the manager Brian that I have my car diagnosed by the Hyundai Dealer. Although I was frustrated at this point, I agreed and on October 23, 2023, had my vehicle towed to Hyundai dealer at Auto Nation, Columbus, GA. The following day October 24th, I was informed by Hyundai that my electronic parking brakes were frozen which stemmed from improper installation of the brake pads. They immediately reached out to Fred's manager (Brian) with their diagnosis and cost of repairs. Following a brief conversation with Hyundai Service Advisor Justin, Brian (Fred's) manager disagreed with the dealership's assessment and cost of repairs and therefore refuses to authorized their services. Finally, I returned to Fred's a few days later to speak with the General Manger (Jackson) but he again deferred me to Brian. And after final attempt to resolve this issue. He (Brian) still refuse to accept responsibly that Fred's technicians damaged my vehicle. After and unpleasant exchange of words, Brain basically told me to vacate the premises and threaten to call the police. Mind you I never threatened him. I simply told him that I was pissed and had ran out of patients! I followed up and ask if I need to contact my attorney. He replied and I quote: " I don't care, call your attorney. Just get out of here with that noise"! Needless to say, I was shocked! I simply could not believe this was coming from a manager of such well known establishment. So I left the premises baffled and in disbelief. Fast forward, I did in fact contact my attorney. And on November 10th a letter was sent to Fred's Tire Discounters, Columbus, GA and received on November 14, 2023. My attorney is strongly urging them to resolve this issue by requesting a copy of their Certificate of Liability Insurance (COI) to file a claim. This is the first effort to resolve the issue. But as of today, November 25, 2023, there has been no response for a resolution on behalf of Fred's Tires. Final Take: As a result of Fred's Tire Discounters negligence, my vehicle is still at the Hyundai Dealership awaiting confirmation for repair. As of today, I've spent 40 days without the services of my car. In the meantime, I've had to rent or seek other alternate transportation for my daily commute. So my advise to everyone is DO NOT have your vehicle serviced at Fred's Tire Discounters. In particular electronic brake repairs! it is obvious to me they do not have the qualified technicians or management to service modern vehicles. I brought my Nissan Pathfinder to Fred's on Friday, May 3, 2024 to replace my front brakes (check to see if my rotors need to be replaced or turned). I was told my rotors as well as my back pads were good. The following week, I noticed my brakes were still squeaking loud, as well as scrubbing? I took my truck back to Fred's. The mechanic that worked on them stated he forgot to smoke my brakes which some refer to as bleeding the brakes. He drove my truck said he didn't hear any squeaking or scrubbing? Not true at all, I left gave it 2 more weeks, went back Friday, May 17th for an oil changed. I referenced my brakes are sounding worst than when I came in on May 3rd. I asked him to check my back ones as well as my rotors because it was vibrating bad & scrubbing to the ground which I knew that should not be occurring. The mechanic stated my back ones were good as well as my rotors. Fast forward, Monday, June 17, 2024, I had enough of the loud noise, vibrating & scrubbing. My husband took my truck to 2 different shops. Not only were CHEAP front brakes put on my truck, my rotors had not been turned or rotated, they were warped. New front brake pads & rotors had to be purchased! I was extremely pissed and dissatisfied . Having to pay for 2 brake jobs within a month. On Tuesday, June 18, 2024 I went to Fred's to make them aware along with my receipts from my visit there, as well as what had to purchase & done to correct the MISTAKE & negligence there. The manager smartly asks after being told what occurred, asked what do you want me to do? Very unprofessional & unapologetic. I will NEVER go there again with ANY of my vehicles(new or used)!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't appreciate the inconvenience, the sarcasm I received which was no fault of mines. They suppose to be the professionals in that area!!!!!!! Who has money to throw away, NOT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER experienced service like this from previous vehicles my husband & I have taken there!!!!!! Had the absolute worst experience at this place. Came in for an alignment. I got there at 9 am sharp. I called ahead to make sure I would be seen and could get it done the same day. The young lady in the phone said the earlier I got there the better. Great! I get there and she asks "Are you going to drop it off or would you prefer to wait," to which I asked "How long do you think it will take?" She replies "About an hour or so." Okay, no big deal. I tell her I'll wait. 10:00 comes...then 11:00...then 12:00...then 1:00...During this time I'm asking her what's the wait. she insists it'll just be a bit longer. I FINALLY see the guy go over to my car...at 1:45. Didn't get my car on the rack until 4:00...they closed at 6. I spent my entire day off here. Definitely not coming back. read more

I brought my 2016 Honda Accord Sport to Fred's to get my back driver-side tire checked. It was completely flat. Before I was even able to leave my office to get it looked at, I had to borrow a co-workers air machine to have the tire inflated enough to safely drive on it. This was my first experience with FTC. Although I know, that over-time, I will have other car issues, this will certainly not be my last experience with the fine folks down at FTC! They were open and honest with me and said they would try their best to fix the tire versus having to replace it. Luckily, they were able to patch the hole. This was music to my ears since my car is a lease and it's up in a few months. If you have an automobile issue, I highly recommend this place. Dropped my car off for an oil change and a tire rotation at Fred's Tire this morning (which I've been going to since I started driving ten years ago). 1. Didn't get a call that my car was ready. When I showed up at closing time, they were locking my car up in the garage to head out for the day. 2. Tried to give me my car back with a missing lug nut on my back right tire. 3. Tried to give me a lug nut that was TOO LARGE and send me on my way with it sticking out about a 1/4 in from my wheel. 4. Now my car is leaking oil, which it has NEVER done before. This place is slowly but surely heading downhill with new ownership. I'll never let them touch another vehicle I own as long as I'm in Columbus. read more

the service to repair a tire seems fine. my issue is they have a fenced area at the bottom of a hill. that appears dangerous for females to have walk to then find your car wedged between two old in rough shape cars that i could barely get in my car much less back out of the space. i looked around and there were plenty of spaces up near the shop so why would the make a women in heels walk down to that parking pit. i dealt with Fred Terry and Tommy for many years, one of biggest reasons was their common courtesy. since they are gone this place has literally gone down hill. read more

We were 1,200 miles from home , in a hurry, and my car was making weird noises that got drastically worse so we decided we had to get it looked at. We stopped at Fred's and everyone was friendly and helpful from the moment we walked in. I ended up needing two new tires but they were so friendly and kind that I was much less upset than I probably would have been. I went to this shop for tires and an alignment on a recommendation from another mechanic and could not have been happier. Everyone was pleasant, I received a very fair price, great tires, alignment and relatively quickly. I will absolutely use them again when our other vehicle requires tires. Awesome. Honest. Fast. I have been using Fred's for years and I have never had a single issue. Fred's has always given me a call if the problem was bigger than I expected. They have stood behind their work and referred to to other shops if the job was outside of their core expertise. When buying a car, for $25 they will do an inspection which very recently would have saved a friend nearly $4000 in repairs when he bought a used car with hidden mechanical issues. Been going to Fred's for years, so am reluctant to post something negative, but a simple tire replacement /alignment problem has caused me a year's worth of problems. I purchased 4 new tires from them in February 2014, and had to take my car back 3 times in hopes that they would fix the horrible rattling throughout my car. They said they had no record of my purchasing the tires from them. After 4 attempts at having them fix a simple alignment problem, my car is now having to get new tires from Bross tires in less than one year of use, no thanks to Fred's. (And, I am not hard on my car). I hated posting this, but I second Thad W's post that Fred's emphasizes quantity over quality. read more

I have bought several sets of tires from Fred's. Michelin to be exact. However I will never take any of my vehicles there again. After spending $609 on front brakes, I still had a vibration in the car. Turn out it was tires and not the brakes at all. I then spent another $800+ on new tires. After all that I then had noise out of the front brakes which was not there before. I was refunded about $381 dollars and was told by the owner that I was trying to get something for nothing, when all I wanted was my daughters car fixed. After spending time out of work bringing the back to this shop, I finally gave up as the attitudes towards me became less than courteous. Needless to say I did get my daughters car fixed somewhere else. I'm very disappointed, I will never use the shop again. I was like everyone else in Columbus, and would always come here. Fred's has proven to be the most ethical and reliable automotive repair center that we've done business with in Columbus. As an example, a few months ago we were expecting to have to pay a couple of hundred dollars on my wife's brakes on her Armada. We were thrilled to get a call from Fred's a couple of hours later to say that the brake job we feared was going to cost us hundreds wouldn't cost us at all due to their being able to clean the brake pads. I did business with this company years ago because of word of mouth! Stayed doing business for years even though it wasn't the best work done each time. There were times I had to bring a car back because of the poor work performed. I'm one who give everyone the benefit of the doubt even at my expense sometimes. Surely it's been years since doing business here, so getting tires, etc. shouldn't be difficult. Right? Well, wrong!! Never again! It's gonna cost you to come here! Believe that!
