We had the best experience last weekend at tips! Carly was very busy but did a great job making sure we had drinks and food. Last time we were in we had a very rude server who almost scoffed at us when we asked for water. My husband I stayed at the BigSky Resort and had met up with a friend at the The Wilson. While having a few drinks there at the bar we wanted to get some food. It was Sunday and the bartender recommended us to go to Tips Up. At first glance the place looked cool but dead since it was going to close in 25mins. We sat down looked over the menu and ordered with in minutes. The young very thin dirty blonde waitress took our order. When I asked how many wing came with the order she said about 8-10 for 20 bucks. When our order came out the wings came out in one of those paper trays that you would get when buying carnival food, not too big of a deal but there was only 6 wings. I was so shocked I asked the waitress " that's what you get, 6 wings for 20 bucks?" She looked at me and said " yeah well things in Montana are expensive" I told her it's not the money it's the principle. She started walking away and told me since I told you a different amount of wings I could discount it for you. Again it was told very sarcastically and rude and I told her no we're fine. Long story short it was very unprofessional and rude of her to assume what's expensive to anyone. Please understand it wasn't expensive it was a rip off. 6 wings for 20 bucks and there was nothing special about them. We've spent 7 long nights in BigSky and were new to the states, with not many food options here in the town we still never went back as it put a nasty taste in my mouth. Which is sad because it looked like a cool place to have gone to at night for drinks. One last thing, we asked for a amaretto sour she looked confused and said "I'm not sure we can make that." So here are the details. Fried cheese curds were tasty. Everyone (including kids) liked them. But what's not to like about lightly coated, salty, fried cheese. Skip the deviled eggs and the chicken crisps. Just not worth it. The chicken wings are decent, but the fried chicken is better. Go with the fried chicken. Crispy, juicy, and fried to a dark brown. Delicious. The crispy spicy chicken sandwich is really good. Big, crispy, juicy, chicken breast in a soft bun with a slight kick of spice. If you really want spice ask for more sauce on the side. It's more of a Buffalo flavor than Tennessee hot, but still good. So tots or fries? Both were fried perfectly. The tots are your traditional type and the sties are thin and crispy. I vote for the fries, but can't go wrong. Kids food, chicken tenders are good (but the fried chicken is better), cheese burger is solid. Classic melty cheese burger. The hot dogs are big. Good diner style grilled hot dogs. The beers were good, too. Cold and tasty. And check your bill. We got charged another table's more expensive check. read more

Tips is a restaurant/bar. The establishment is very roomy and fun. They have an outside patio to dine out or in. I was with a group of four people. We all experienced the same problem. Holy SHIT this place was bad. Waited about 25 min to be seen by a waitress, waited an hour and a half for our food, and when it did come out, it was fried to a literal crisp. Do not get any chicken sandwich they have. I'm almost convinced it was left in the fryer for the hour we were waiting for it to come out. It was black, tasted like leather, just awful. The tater tots were the only good thing on the menu. I would recommend going to quite literally any other establishment that sells some form of food before going here. I politely asked what they were putting in my huckleberry mule just because I was curious to see what local liquor/mixers were going in it (I am not from Big Sky) and they responded in an EXTREMELY rude manner. Classic C- experience. Food is perfectly fine and mediocre, like you would expect at a country club pool. Service is slightly slow and they weren't busy. Our server was nice. I can see it getting busy and there being a huge wait. Anyways, I got the burger and my sister got the chicken sandwich, both agreed yeah fine I guess. Fries were terrible fries, but we ate them because they are fries and even with terrible ones they are decent. Sat ourselves as directed. 2-3 other tables in the restaurant were taken, so not busy. 2 waitresses walked by us several times. After 10 minutes one came over and said "oh...your my table.' Ok. Ordered wings to start. Literally 1 minute later, boneless wings came out. I stated I didn't order boneless wings and inquired why they came out so fast? "Probably left over from a wrong order" she stated. Our wings came out. And were pink! Sent them back. Two minutes later our sandwiches came out. They were fine. But my tater tots were from the bottom of the basket and just leavings. We were looking for our waitress to get another beer, and there she was walking across the street! Was able to get another beer from the lone waitress and was told our waitress went to help out in the kitchen at their other waitress. Yay...our wings are back! This time without ranch, carrots or celery. Great expediting! Took them to go. Hey our waitress is back! They didn't need her. We got our bill...on a tablet, with 20% tip attached. Funny. Having worked in the bar/restaurant industry for years in ski towns, I gave her the 20%.
