Quite possibly the best nail bar in Canada! I found Tips last year after searching around Toronto for a place that does nail art, little did I know that I would get hooked! I have come back every few weeks and have also moved my facials to their downstairs salon. Their customer service is absolutely top-tier; everyone I've spoken to at reception is lovely and friendly, and they've accommodated some last-minute changes and requests with zero issues. I'm always greeted by name when I walk in the door and offered a cup of tea. Their nails are AH. MAY. ZING. Seriously. Check out their Instagram if you want to get some inspiration. Every single person who has done my nails has done them perfectly, and I look forward to trying out new styles and shapes. There are no tricks here, just excellent training and artistic capabilities. I was excited to try this place out and get my first ever nail art. Reservations were easy to make on their online system. I got there a little before 7pm. I was greeted by a friendly front desk staff who asked me immediately if I wanted water or raspberry tea. Even though she did forgot to bring me the tea, I was impressed with another staff who asked when she took me to my manicurist. They also gave me a hot towel to clean my hands. One of the reasons I didn't give this place a 5 is because they were late seating me. Even though, they were apologetic, I like appointments that are on time and not 15 mins late. Having said this, I do have to give them cred for taking my friend who was also late to the appointment! My manicurist, Rebecca was very friendly. I told her I wanted shellac with easy nail art. I showed her a sample and she immediately knew what to do. She picked a really nice base for my nails and worked with what I wanted, but also added her own creativity. The only other reason why I am not giving a 5 is because she told me at the end that the nail art was $12 instead of $10 (price for easy art). I think this should have been told right up front so I am not surprised. Even if I made changes midway, i would have liked a heads up. End of the day, it was only $2 extra, but it's the principle. Despite this, I truly love love my nail work and appreciated Rebecca's attention to detail and patience with me. The cost of these nails weren't cheap - I paid $90 including tax and tip. Had a manicure here recently. Very professional spot. You can book online or via phone, but fyi folks you need to give a credit card to reserve your spot. My rating actually falls between a 2.5 and 3 (you'll see why below). Once there I was offered a drink quite quickly and did not wait long to be served. Their set up is interesting -- one long table with manicurists on one side and patrons on the other. The girl I had was not very talkative, so I just sat and enjoyed. She was pretty good, although she was a bit rougher than what I like. I did let her know I have sensitive cuticles before we started and yet she still went at them hard. At one point I yelped and pulled my hand back, so she eased off. Hey ladies -- when someone tells you to go easy - go easy!! K? The paint job really lasted though -- so I did really like that. I did have to put antiseptic cream on a cuticle for 3 days after but then was ok. I wish I could say this was not a common occurrence but really it just boils down to listening! Would you like to see how $95+ CAD (about $70+ USD) gel nails from nails salon calming "where all the beauty editors in the know get their nails did" look like on day 5? This is how. The rest of the nails look a little better but not by much. The CDN gel started chipping in a few hours on the very first day. It continued chipping laster, and the pinnacle was when half of the gel on my right thumb nail just broke off on day 5. Now, please let it be known that I'm a very kind and patient person, and the line of what I can tolerate and forgive stretches way farther than that of anybody else I know. I don't leave bad reviews. I usually only say good things or nothing at all. I actually feel bad for bringing issues to somebody's attention even when those issues are completely their fault and have to be addressed. So, this is completely something out of the ordinary for me. However, I feel that people should know about such atrocious level of service and not waste their money or time going there. I send the above pictures to @Tipsnailbar and asked them to redo my nails. They did see me the same day but they didn't redo the nails. They only redid the half-broken right thumb, and only after strongly urging them filed the tips of the rest of the nails and covered them with a new layer of top coat. The problem with that is that you can still see that all of them are chipping, and the form of the nails doesn't look good. Moreover, not only they didn't apologize properly, they also made it look like it was MY fault. The first words out of their mouth were not, "We are sooooo sorry." The first words out of their mouth were, "What did YOU do?", said condescendingly and with accusation. Guys, I've been getting gel nails every 2-3 weeks for the last 7.5 years with a few months of break here and there in between. I know what I can and cannot do with gel nails. Did I look like I was buried alive under a few thousand feet of mountain rock and had to claw my way out of there with the nails you did perfectly, and now I dared to come and complain? NO. I did absolutely nothing. I did less than I usually do with my nails. Usually, I cook, and clean, and wash dishes by hand but right now because of my health, I do a very physically demanding treatment under general anesthesia three times a week. It leaves me drained. I use a dishwasher and I had to hire a cleaner because I don't have the energy to do it. I came got get my nails fixed the same day I had a treatment, and instead of being treated with respect, I was made feel guilty and like sh*t (excuse my French but I don't have polite words). I am writing this review for the brand new Tips Nail Bar that opened up on Dundas West (near Ossington). Right now there is no Yelp page for it, so I figured I would just write this review here. Was having a pretty crappy week and decided I would treat myself to a nice manicure. I have been to Tips once before and was aware it's a pretty pricey nail bar, but figured: I'm worth it. The brand new Tips is so spacious and beautiful with lots of room for the technicians and big beautiful floor to ceiling glass windows letting tons of natural light in. I was one of the first appointments of the day, and I found the vibe super chill. I was offered a coffee and was offered time to decide what kind of nail art I wanted to go with. I decided on a mod, geometric color block that they had designed for Elle Canada and posted to their Instagram previously. My technician was super friendly, quick and did such a great job at making my nail dreams come to life. She also made suggestions of colors that would pair well together, so that I would have the most banging nails out there. And tbh, I appreciated that because I didn't wanna be walking around nails that didn't make sense. So to whoever, my tech was: thank you. I've been trying to find you on Instagram to give proper credit, but I haven't found you yet. I've read on here about a weird, cliquey vibe at Tips and tbh - I did not experience that at all. I mean, the people beside me were talking about their cats, but I was super here for that conversation because cats are great. Maybe the Danforth location is different? My Tips Nail Bar experiences have been great thus far! The location is nice, the looks of the salon is very clean and trendy. It's a salon where you feel comfortable, the tables for manicure form this long line of table and when the place is full it's a fun atmosphere as you get to socialize with your artist as well as other clients getting their nails done. I have had my best experiences with Naomi, she is pure talent, especially if you want to get nail art, she is extremely talented and quick. I've had many compliments on my nails. Their service is amazing and they treat their clients with respect. Their prices are a little steep, but honestly, they do such a quality job that it makes it fair to pay for it. I've found them to be very thorough while doing my shellac manicure, making sure to go on the sides (many other salons that have cheaper prices don't have as nice as a finish) . Had a wonderful afternoon here. Amanda was kind enough to fit me into an earlier, more convenient time slot last minute. Shirley gave me my first set of chrome nails. She recently won an award for her work, so I was definitely in good hands (pun intended). Everyone was very friendly - I even got some travel tips from Naomi - and I can't stop starring at my shiny nails at the end. I know this place has lots of hype. People comes from all over the city to get their nails done here. They have a great reputation, but I won't be going back any time soon. I went to Tips alone to spoil myself and ended up feeling terrible. The staff and owner are so cliquey I felt like I went back to high school. Everyone else in there was just talking about how fabulous they were, who was the best. They were making fun of people they knew who weren't there. As a customer it was uncomfortable for me. This was a horrid experience for me and my friend. We went here in hopes to find a new go to spot. Instead it took us over 2 hrs for a pedicure. The girl who was doing mine. Had to redo several toes a few times and even get help from another technician. It was disappointing considering the fees for their service. To top it all off. One of the technicians shhh'd us telling us in their spa they don't allow the use of cell phones! The space itself is lovely and serene, the staff are a joy (and riot) to be around, fellow customers provide pleasant company, oh...and did I mention the services are amazing? The pros: The technicians here are incredible, namely Miyuki :) These girls can do nail designs like no other and have the latest and greatest polish selection you can find. Everyone is super friendly and chatty and if you have an appointment, you are in and out. Salon is clean, and there seem to be a ton of regulars which is always good news. The cons: Price. I understand that you get what you pay for...but when a shellac mani with design runs you $80+ it's a bit excessive. I requested a similar design for my nails at my local hole in the wall nail salon, and although not as precise as Tips, the technician did a pretty good job (I received many compliments), it lasted the regular 2-3 weeks, and the best part - only cost me $30. Also, as I said the place is friendly and chatty. This can be a great thing, but can also feel a bit like a desperate housewives congregation. A lot of older, richer women frequent here - and that's the kind of loud gossip you get on either side of you when you sit down. Also parking can be a drag if you are not there during an off-peak time as it's located right on danforth. My last visit I told the technician to just do whatever, use my nails as a creative outlet, and give me something amazing. (Note: I had a gift card so I was ok with an $80 price tag this day and wanted to max out my nail design). She did white with a hint of glitter. Not what I call creative and not at all near what I know she is capable of. Now maybe that was my fault for giving no guidelines, but when my bill came to $65 I was even more disappointed. All in all ,they do a great job (if you offer exact instructions) and worth it to go for a special occasion (wedding/birthday etc.) and IF you want a design or something unique. Since the staying power is equivalent to a regular salon, it is not worth it to go just for a regular polish. read more

This is, by far, the most reputable nail salon in Toronto. Yes, it's hard to get an appointment at the last minute. Yes, you get charged it you cancel without sufficient notice (common sense, no?) The technicians are exceptionally talented, and they art they do is the stuff you see in magazines (and I'm being literal; most of them are brand ambassadors and do tons of editorials). Expensive? Yes. But my $50 manicure will last me 3 weeks without chipping. read more

I love Tips! I've been going since the Fall of 2010, I've never had anything but great experiences there. All the ladies are lovely and very welcoming. I've gotten gel and regular manis and pedis, and gone in for removal only. My go to is Melissa, we've gotten to know each other well and she is great at knowing just what I want to do with my nails even when I don't know myself. Customer service is terrible! I WAS a regular client at this place. To be honest I would never go to this place but girl who was getting my nails done started to work there. The atmosphere isn't friendly as well as the stuff. Specially girl at the reception...she just never smiles...or maybe just to me which is still not good if you work with people and charge THAT much for services! Getting to the point. I live in Oakville and its 40-60 min drive. So today I didn't have a choice but to take my 8month girl with me (my babysitter got sick and I didn't want to cancel last minute). Note: my daughter is a very well behaved and happy child. Before manicure stared the girl is telling me that I cannot bring her (my daughter) with me. I turned around and left. If so, they can say it at the end the service and I would understand that. But she didn't make any noise, no crying, no screaming! Most of the clients and girls who work there make a lot more noise which I find extremely uncomfortable for me when I come to have time for myself and relax. I did realize that there is a pretentious nature to this place, but I wanted certain nail art done and had read they can do all kinds of nail art. The technicians are good. However, I'm writing this because I had an appointment that I had to cancel due to an illness. They charged me the FULL service fee. I understand if you have to cancel and even dentists charge a cancellation fee. This is a nail place! They didn't even have 'time' to hear me out about why I had to cancel, they just wanted their money - not a percentage, but the whole fee! Unacceptable. I won't be returning. Not impressed with my nails at all. Was my friend's birthday and I made an appointment there first time ever to get my nails done. They did my pedicure first and it was heaven, the girl did an awesome job, that was why I tipped $30 for it. And as for my manicure, it was absolutely horrible. I asked for gel based, because I have thin nails and they break easily. NOT JUST SHELLAC. The girl had told me its an hour before close, so they need to charge me for the service first. I paid over $96 for just my manicure not including tips. It lasted for a good 2 days. That night I looked over my nails when I had time, it was all uneven, 3 were way bigger than the rest due to those 3 were the only ones that actually have gel on it. One out of those 3 were falling off on the 2nd day. Had my nails done lots of times, never before this have happen so soon. Usually last for at least 3 weeks. The 3rd day was when the chipped comes to haunt me. The feeling of I'm ashamed of my nails was my big wow. I had people commented "Hey nice bails ...oh." That last part was when they really look into it. No, I would not return to that place. A refund was what they should of offered me. read more

Loved the extra attention to detail and lovely service at this salon. They provide tea and water, take your coat when you arrive, ask if you want the water (for pedicure) hotter, etc. My pedicure was amazing and so was the 10 min extra massage. It was pricier than the average pedicure but worth it for the service and experience. I can see how this salon can be a bit uncomfortable for people regarding the gossipy atmosphere. I am often just not in the mood to talk. I'm quiet by nature and even when I do talk, I'm more of a literary, world events person than a entertainment, fashion person. But it is a nail bar, so the atmosphere is pretty much what it should be. I find 98% of the aestheticians warm and friendly. And I think it must be impossible to change the atmosphere per client when the place is full. For legally blonde types it's the place to go for fun. For the rest of us, it's the place to go for the best nail service in town. I've tried various different places in Toronto, a lot in Yorkville and the Bay and Bloor area where I work, but not matter how much I pay I can't get the quality I get a tips. I'm actually very curious where others are going when they say they get nail service just as good as at Tips. I really believe there is just no reason to pay money anywhere else, I might as well just do my nails at home. Often when I go, I'm tired, it's my day off, I have a ton of stuff to do and I'm not in the mood for a chatty, eighties music, upbeat place. But I go because the bottom line is I want a great manicure. And most likely, the majority of other customers enjoy the atmosphere. The hour or two, (if I get a pedicure) I spend there is more about having fantastic nails for the next two to three weeks, than participating in the fashion/entertainment culture which these places are supposed to be like, and gossip is a part of that world. But for the reviewer who went before her wedding and there was the mix-up over the shellac or reg manicure, if I experienced what you had, I would never go back either. I'm actually surprised to see a low rating for this spectacular salon. Yes, I can see how some can get frustrated when trying to book an appointment - but you wont be disappointed by their impressive nail art skills as well as shellac application. Came here to get the "New Set Tips" for $90 pre tax and tip. The nails were very thick and look extremely unnatural - it was quite obvious I had fake nails and I was not happy with the result. When I went to another nail salon to get them filled in 2 weeks, they had to spend a ton of time filing them to make them thinner. They looked so much better after my visit to another salon that the lack of quality from Tips was even more obvious to me then. GOLD STAR SERVICE AND QUALITY APPLICATIONS! For a while I would bump from nail salon to nail salon because I found when I became a regular client the quality of my manicures would decrease. That all stopped when I became a regular client of TIPS nail bar ( my location of choice is the danforth location). From the very first manicure I was blown away with the quality and craftsmanship each technician applied to my nails. From the very first time I went I have been hooked! My manicure finally became one that I didn't have to worry about and also each technician always have cared for the health of my manicure. What I am also so impressed by is how they approach each application with complete sanitization never reusing files, cloths and even having each tenchincian have their own lights and tools. I love that they never double dip never double dipping! I can see why TIPS is voted as a TOP nail salon in toronto and why every beauty editor goes to them. I had a really similar experience to Stephanie J's but a mistake with my booking made the who experience even more uncomfortable. I booked an appoint for shellac manicures and regular polish pedicures for my mother, sister and me the day before my wedding. I booked far in advance and had a long conversation with the woman on the phone about what I wanted. We even discussed whether there was any need for us to get shellac pedicures too or whether it was a waste. I was quite sure I booked what I wanted because our conversation went into such detail. She even asked if it was for a wedding and when I said yes, she offered to book our services as a sort of party or event. I declined but I was glad they knew if was for my wedding because I thought if anything we would get better service. When we arrived we were told that we booked regular manicures rather than shellac. They were rude about it too. One louder woman who seemed in charge for the day was particularly rude and made sure everyone in the salon heard it was my fault. She then said I should have noticed I booked the wrong service because I received a confirmation email the day before stating what I booked. I tend to be quite meticulous but it would never have occurred to me that there was a mistake because my email said "manicure" instead of shellac manicure". I'm a pretty understanding person and I don't like to make a fuss. I would have been fine if they acknowledged that someone accidentally wrote down the wrong service in their schedule but they insisted it was my mistake. Begrudgingly, they gave me a shellac but my mother and sister had to get regular manicures. Then, there was a shockingly obvious buzz of chatter for the next half hour about what we had supposedly done wrong. When the excitement over us finally wore off things turned exactly as Stephanie described. Cliquey and gossipy. It's such an uncomfortable atmosphere. I really wanted to like Tips Nail Bar. It's a lovely, clean place, they do a beautiful work and it's right in my neighbourhood. Unfortunately, my experience has put me off completely. Also the atmosphere was very cliquey and uncomfortable for me as it was my first time and I didn't feel very welcome. It was a bit disconcerting that the tech who did my manicure had dirty fingernails. It's a very small space with minimal equipment. THIS PLACE IS INCREDIBLE. I flew into Toronto for my close friend's wedding, and when we (the bridal party) walked in (without an appointment) the owner-aesthetician immediately made us feel welcome and special. The entire team worked together beautifully to get us an incredible experience, and they even heard us say how we needed coffee, so one of the staff went to Starbucks to get the 3 of us a coffee! We actually kept making jokes that the bride, for her wedding speech, needed to thank the ladies at Tips Nail Bar for making her wedding so special! They really did go above and beyond from start to finish, and made my friend the happiest and most relaxed bride in the world. We appreciated it a lot, and it helped to make the whole weekend incredible. Worth every penny.
