Grilled cheese and tomato soup special
Bobb S.

How time flies! It has been 12 years since my first review of TTT and definitely in need of an update. I was in the area and decided to stop in for a light bite. The interior is just as cute and cozy as I remember although with winter coming, the single door entrance is problematic letting the cold air in. As before, a solid beer line-up with a few house cocktails to choose from. For food, the menu embraces it's tavern/pub vibe. On a chilly night, the grilled cheese/tomato soup sounded ideal and it was a solid dish. I love their use of Madison Sourdough bread as it definitely elevates the sandwich. My daughter opted for the Chicken Burlesque (aka chicken tenders). House battered, the strips were plentiful and perfectly cooked. I would come back simply for those. Our server was attentive. Definitely feel it has earned a rotation into a spot on my frequent visit list.

Love this place, great menu, great service, so chill and welcoming! Great neighborhood restaurant.

Classic tavern vibe with upscale food! Came and sat at the bar and had a wonderful burger and ice cold miller light. Service was quick and kind! I'll definitely come back!

Small House Salad

Best dive bar patio and fish fry in Madison. I have never been disappointed with the walleye and I get it every time.

We are travelers and had a hard time finding a brunch spot downtown that didn't have a long line out the door, saw this spot recommended by locals on Reddit and even though they too were packed - we were lucky and got into a table for two almost immediately. They were efficient with the flow of people, most not having to wait. They offer self-serve coffee ($3)/water, and can order other drinks - I thought the coffee was well brewed. Our server was kind, attentive, and our food came out fast. We went with the carnitas verdes and the rooster. Both were decent, good portion size, and good value. We preferred the rooster a bit more - like a breakfast blt - super flavorful sauce on it and good bacon! The carnitas just didn't hit for us, lacked the flavor we were looking for but the meat was well cooked. Loved the ambiance and vibes here, felt like an old school small town spot where everyone hangs!

Not pictured: fries and fried pickles because we ate them too quickly. The food here is always great fresh, delicious, and exactly what you expect. The service is always great as well. They have different seating sections for any mood.

Another great experience at Tip Top Tavern for date night! Server was great and moved quickly through the entire space. Food was on point! GF bun wasn't tough or dry.

One of the best burgers in town @tiptoptavern! Tip Top Burger includes heritage farms grass-fed beef with lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles and tip top special sauce served on a buttered bun.

Memorable and super helpful staff. That's my 87 y.o. Dad's description, which is high praise. Finding somewhere to eat on game day in Madison is challenging to say the least so we were happy to find this place. The atmosphere is traditional Wisconsin tavern but the food is a step up! Loved their take on an eggs Benedict and the Bloody Mary was excellent. when in Madison looking for brunch, stop in! (Or for a beer later in day)

Mushroom melt

First time here and its a cute small bar/restaurant. I ordered the mushroom melt with butternut squash. It was absolutely delicious. My bf ordered the burger. I had the sweet potato fries which were super good. Love that the meal comes with a side salad. The dressing was so good it was sweet, tasted like strawberries. I definitely want to come back when in town.

Beer battered cod fry and loaded baked potato
Sho R.

I took out lunch on a Friday afternoon. I went for their Friday special beer battered cod fry. For side I went for loaded baked potato, which was good. Fish fry was good as well. Coleslaw wasn't as good. The place was empty on Friday afternoon. They didn't have a parking lot. But there was plenty of street parking.

In prior review so many options all within walking distance in downtown Madison. Right off loved the vibes, old school vibes, downstairs area (area checked out), restaurant level two levels, one nice spacious car area, and other section more dining room. All around one thing common lots of widescreens. NFL back weekend games and also big college town University of Wisconsin. It can get loud and crazy. The food naturally had to get some cheese curds. Out of the two spots just as solid. Not the best of the two. I ended up having Thai Chicken pasta the first time carbload night before the race. Solid pasta dish. Nice hearty, nice flavor, and nice portion. The second time went with Korean rice bowl. Another nice hearty and refreshing dish. The service was friendly, attentive, and all smiles!

While we were very happy with our enormous half-pretzel and my partner said Prost made the best beer cheese sauce she'd ever tasted, our mains were kinda lackluster. My partner remarked that the Beyond Bratwurst merely tasted like breakfast sausage. The sauerbraten was just some plain pulled pork with a scant drizzle of sauerbraten gravy, nothing like the well-marinated real deal. The potato pancake wasn't really pancake-y, more like some glorified shredded hash browns. The red cabbage was kinda bland. The pickled veg that accompanied the sausage plate looked and tasted fresh and crisp, with a nice hint of warm spice present in the carrots. The space is a pleasing reuse of an old deconsecrated church, with the requisite beer hall-style dining benches. Sports play on the televisions in the main dining hall and above the bar. In summary, I guess you gotta know what Prost!'s strengths are. Their pretzel is epic, but most everything else seemed to fall short. If you're there just for the beer, you can't go wrong.

The menu is filled with elevated pub food, a few classics and then a few twists on those very classics. Come hinge, because the menu is carb-driven, so be ready to eat! To start, we went with the poutine, because why not! The fries were crispy, gravy was velvety and the curds were firm, yet melty enough for a good cheese pull! For our mains, we both went sandwiches. I went with the Celtic Burger, which is their standard burger with added caramel iced onion, whiskey bacon jam, Irish cheddar and a garlic aioli. The burger was good and cooked well, but it was less impressive than I expected given all the goods they added to it. While the aforementioned additions sound like a flavor bomb, it was still fairly one note in overall flavor. It was still tasty, but again, not as expected. My buddy went with the corned beef sandwich. He enjoyed it, no major issues! I did appreciate that exchanging fries with fried curds was an option, especially after loaded up on fries as a starter. The curds were well fried, pillowy and quite tasty. Perfect side for sure! In addition to the food, they are known for their bar offerings so you know we had to grab a few cocktails! I went with the Golden Dew and my buddy the Old Fashioned. Golden Dew was delightful, however the old fashioned was a bit sweet, but that's possibly the brandy. Service was great. We walked in and hit the wait list, however was able to scoop up a few seats at the bar before our table was ready. The bartenders were friendly, helpful and an overall joy to interact with. Overall, definitely a fan of The Coopers Tavern! When back in Madison, I would certainly swing by again!
