2nd time stopping in on a whim, 1st time was at least a year ago. Very friendly & helpful. I was a walk-in & they took me (typically appt only.) I didn't catch the name, but I believe my pedicure was done by the owner or manager or something because she was giving orders to everyone with the best badass authority attitude & I loved it, lol. She also introduced me to some Jennifer Garner movie about being 13-will have to watch. AND- we totally vibed off of celebrity gossip, I learned so much, she is a fount of information, . Anywho, Very clean & cool space & cool staffers, with regulars who have been coming for decades. I will be intentional about giving them my repeat business. Tip-both times I was able to walk-in b/c I went at odd times during the week day. Get there before 3 pm (or at least call ahead) & you should be fine. read more

Great nail tech. If I recall correctly her name was Kim, she was especially good at shaping my nails and was very gentle on my cuticles. This was my first time but the vibe was nice, everyone was friendly, in a very Philly way. Other reviews warned it would be dirty, they were right. It needs a deep clean, new chairs, new sanitary shields, etc. Regardless I would come back anyway. Great prices. read more

I was recently in Philly and needed to get my nails done ASAP. Called Tip Top Nails and they took me right away without an appointment. My nail tech was wonderful and patient while I chose a nail color. She was very thorough with removing my Gel X nails and was gentle in soaking them off. She did a beautiful gel manicure that I'm obsessed with. Very reasonably priced ($40 for gel manicure and Gel X soak off). read more

Found this place by chance. Not super friendly. I've had 2 visits. The 1st visit the owner or maybe son? Only male cut my nails entirely too short and it hurt. But the polish was great. 2nd visit I had an older woman and she was great except I felt very rushed and she only did one coat of color and top coat. I Had it done on a Thursday and by Sunday my nails were all chipped. She did an absolutely wonderful job though on my pedi. I like to go back but a bit nervous about who or what I'll get. It's a really good price but all I can say is, " you get what you pay for." read more

I would avoid this place at all costs. Reg mani $20 even though their recent pricing says $10 and all they do is file and buff your nails... I let the woman know that the nail polish was too thick, and she tried to tell me it's because I didn't do gel... alarming since regular nail polish has been around for decades. Also, not sure if there's a sanitation procedure taken place. I still tipped 20% because I didn't want to be "that" customer but really... The nail tech's colleague also tried to argue with me? Unprofessional. read more

Sooooo I'm just now seeing angry fan note that was left by who im assuming is one of the owners or workers idk! It was years ago but I feel like being petty today ,,,First off how do I expect anything for free when I literally paid for what I asked for?!! And like I said most places don't charge like that for gel polish but whatever, their price is their price I just wasn't paying extra for some bs that wasn't gonna last anyways. Reading the more recent reviews seems like this place is still a hit or miss and is trash! P.S. stop tearing up ppls cuticles like how I've been seeing, seems like some of you need to go to some nail tech classes. read more

Everyone is so friendly and is of a certain quality of work that I don't see often. My dip nails weren't drying. And they were patiently redoing it until it was right. They also squeezed me in for a normal pedicure between their other clients. Andy was very sweet & explained the options for me. Laki was helpful and fun to talk to. Definitely a good experience. Highly recommend this place! I will be back! read more

I try to always get my nails done at tip top! I love how they take care of me. I try to always make an appointment and I like to have cash ready, they do take card and cash app. My preferred shape is square, and I think they do great shaping. I am always satisfied with my designs, and on top of everything , I feel like you will have a good experience with any of the nail techs working on you! I've had almost everyone that works there service me and I am very happy every time. I tend to get a pedicure with all of my sets. I am personally happy with the prices. these are some of my favorites. read more

I've been here a couple times with variable experiences. This time they let me in despite not having an appointment. I waited about an hour. I had Miss Lacky. She first told me I should've just gotten acrylic if I didn't want my nails that long. Of course this was after I got the extensions. Many times the drill got too hot and hurt me. Additionally, she filed so vigorously on the sides that it hurt and did not stop even when I said "Ow!" It seems she made the shape too round, to the point where it doesn't even completely cover my actual nail. This left awkward segments where it looked like I had badly fit press on nails (see photos). Some of the nails are a little lopsided and I had to ask her to cover streaky nail polish. It's two days later now and my cuticles still hurt. Additionally, I guess she is the owner or manager? She was busy answering the phone and texting and letting people in the whole time, so manicure was frequently interrupted. I paid $55+$10 tip. I love the design, but my hands hurt. read more

I've been coming here for years, I mean years. I prefer to go on a Sundays, less people and quieter. My only issue with this salon other than how noisy it can be is that the place is no longer as clean as it use to be and that's a major issue for me. I think generally they keep the equipments they use clean at least I hope they keep their equipments sanitized, but the shop itself needs to be cleaned. The chairs customers sit in needs to be clean. Felt so uncomfortable sitting in the salon after putting down the pedicure chair handle and seeing all the dust from work that was done and no one cleaned the goddam chair. It's like covid ended and they said to hell with cleaning. It's actually disgusting but my favorite nail tech works here. read more

I just moved to Philly from the DMV area and really needed to get my nails in order (to make some good impressions at my new job). The first time I came, I made an appointment for 11 but when I showed up the lady at the front desk seemed confused. About 15 minutes later i was seated at a manicure station and left alone for about 20 mins with the solution on my hands to remove my old gel nails. I just wanted a new polish, not a full manicure. The girl who attended to me seemed to take her time (in a good way) and did a great job. $15 which seemed like a steal to me; I was used to those D.C. prices. I didn't have any cash in hand...don't be like me, this place doesn't accept cards on sundays...random (there is an ATM in there). 2 weeks later I decided to come back on a weekday for a gel manicure and polish on my toes. Didn't bother to make an appointment this time. I thought i saw online that the place opens at 9:30...i could have misread but the place opens at 10. The lady I had this time did a complete rush job, especially on my feet, polish patchy in some places. The manicure left a lot to be desired, they didn't even moisturize my fingers after but everything came up to $45 which again isn't bad at all. Overall, this place is ok. Will get the job done for a decent price but no frills or anything. Some of the staff are quite friendly while some are just indifferent to you. Not much ambience, it's pretty much a hole In the wall but there is a pretty decent polish colour selection. I like when I can see the autoclave for the instruments (which I did here) and the plastic liners for the little pedicure tubs (which I didn't see here). I may or may not return, I'm going to look around for other places. read more

I really really wanted to like this place. Honestly, I felt like a douche for wanting to complain because the customer service is so good. I've been getting my nails done for 15 years and I've never experienced such pain in my cuticles. I got a full set, with gel polish... $25 + $15. (Stating the price because I was under the impression of a completely different price.) I asked him to cut my cuticles. I've had places do this for FREE since I'm already paying for a service, and he said okay it's normally $10 but I'll charge you $5 since we aren't doing a manicure. I'm like okay I'm not going to dispute his business, I will just pay the $5. You guys, I have NEVER been in so much pain. He was cutting my FRESH skin. There is a difference between dead cuticles and fresh skin. I kept flinching and he apologized saying it's just that I have a lot of cuticles. WRONG. it should not ever hurt to cut dead skin. It's dead. Deceased. So now I have 4 fingers bleeding and burning! Hours later by the way. He does GREAT nails but if you care about the health of your nails and skin, I would not come here. I am afraid I will get an infection after this appointment. When I move my fingers, it hurts!!! That is not okay. I am upset with myself for not requesting a discount. I hate to give nail techs a hard time because I see how sometimes customers are A-holes, so I didn't want them to think I just wanted a free service. But I will just take my lesson the hard way and never spend money in this business establishment. read more

Made an appointment the day before and was greeted and welcomed at the door. The girls there are so friendly. I asked for a light pink/purple short coffin shape for a wedding. Kim did an amazing job I can't wait to go back again... feels good to find a good one! She shaped them so perfectly and they are the perfect length and thickness. Seriously did an awesome job. I've been coming here for over a year now, every 2 weeks faithfully. I've been living in Philly for 6 years & as someone who deeply cares about their nails it was hard finding a place I could be consistent with. My girl Lacky is the best in the shop especially if you want acrylic. Everyone seems to do great manicures and pedicures which are done well & $20. I dropped one star because I'm a person that makes appointments and I've experienced twice where I made an appt & they booked over it or late getting to my time. Nothing too bad that I didn't return but I wish they would tighten up on appointments. read more

Andy did an absolutely amazing job! They are beyond friendly and accommodating! I would highly recommend them!

Visited today for a full acrylic set. Asked for short coffin style nails and showed a picture for design and my technician went above my expectations! Had to put down a 20 dollar deposit and after my service i owed 50 dollars- which i think is reasonable for a full gel set with design. All the technicians were very friendly and felt super welcomed! Horrible gel manicure done by a male. Normally I only go to mei mei but she wasn't in . This guy sat on the phone with T-Mobile my entire visit. So unprofessional. Then because he was so distracted he filed my natural nails down until you couldn't file them anymore then argued with me saying that he didn't do it . I now have 12 year old hands. I'm never visiting this place again thanks to his screw up .I grew my nails out for a whole month prior to my visit just for him to file them down In a matter of 2 seconds so disappointed. read more

I was recommended by my hotel on a business trip. I was going to get a pedicure and manicure. I sat down to put my feet in the water for my Pedi and it was so freaking HOT. Took her a few minutes to even come check on me when there was nobody inside. After getting my feet in the less hot water I noticed a sign at the front saying "Cash only on Sunday". Well thank goodness I had cash for my Pedicure, but couldn't get my Manicure because I never carry cash. The paint job was just ok and the massage was not worth returning for. Great pedicure and service. This is coming from someone who really HATES getting pedicures because I'm very sensitive about my feet. The salon was clean and had an excellent nail color selection. The male nail technician who took care of me was gentle and really nice about re-touching my nails after I smudged two when I was walking towards the drying lamp table. I'll admit the price took me a little by surprise, but I would usually do my nails myself so I probably missed the increase in average pedicure rates. I was in a lurch because I'd missed an appointment at another salon, and this salon takes walk-ins so the convenience made up for the slightly higher price. And for the quality and service, definitely worth forking over the extra $5. read more

Not an up-to-date salon, with very limited array of colors to choose from. However, they did get the job done when I walked in for gel polish change and toe polish change. They didn't have a regular polish (for my toes) to exactly match my gel polished nails. The gel polish was rippling during application but the top coat smoothed it all out- thank goodness! The guy that did my nails was friendly and professional. His wife did my toes and she was pretty unfriendly and rushed through everything. Writing this for my friend as I came in with her. She came to get her eyebrows done as she usually does to this place. We came in and the front desk told us where to sit. The wait was relatively reasonable at the range from 10-15minutes which would be expected because this place was full. When the lady came to my friend, she was very professional and I thought it seemed she did a good job and was very gentle. The price is reasonable, I believe my friend paid about $6 or more but no more than $10. Prices at this place are not too expensive. As we left my friend told me that she loved that the lady did her eyebrows because that's her favorite worker to do her eyebrows. It's great that my friend has a favorite in this place which is why they are getting a five star! According to my friend, this place is family ran... so I highly recommend this place to everyone!! This is an inexpensive no-frills nail salon located under the Hilton Garden Inn Convention Center at 11th & Arch. PROS: 1) Inexpensive-- $10 manicure! 2) My nails came out looking fabulous. CONS: 1) Dingy decor from the 90s. 2) Small selection of Essie & OPI nail polishes. Lots of cheap drugstore nail polishes. 3) Indifferent service: the manicurists hardly speak English, and my girl was half focused on my nails & half focused on the Vietnamese soap opera that was on. So I have this friend that loves Tip Top Nails but is too lazy to get a yelp account. In order to diversify my yelp profile and certify my confidence in my masculinity, I am paraphrasing her opinion of this establishment. The staff is super nice, helpful, informative. The son of the stylist had a bag of gummy worms that busted open and it was SO, SO funny. Prices were fantastic and Lackie (Jackie with an L?) was so super. The place was really clean and they do walk-ins, she had an appointment but she probably could have just walked-in. I got a gel manicure at tip top nails a week ago during my lunch break and, literally, within hours it had already chipped on my right thumb. That should've been my first clue as to quality (or lack thereof) but I went back later that same day and they fixed it at no cost. I appreciated that and figured the chipping was a fluke because it's gel there's not really any room for human error. Or, so I thought.... The chipping increased rapidly and got worse on pretty much every finger since last Wednesday and now, here I am, only 7 days later and the polish on 4 other fingers is chipping off!! I have NEVER had this happen with gel polish anywhere else and can usually leave it on for 2-3 weeks easily with it only growing out and not chipping off. Although the girl that did my nails was nice enough, all and all, I'm pretty disappointed with the quality since I was hoping to make that my new nail shop as I'm new to the neighborhood. I paid for a gel manicure and my polish for a regular manicure would've been cheaper and lasted probably just as long. I guess the search continues... read more

I normally perform all of my beauty rituals at home by myself, but this New Year's Eve we had a guest staying at our place, so I decided to leave the house for a leg and underarm wax. I came in early in the afternoon of the 31st, and told them what I wanted. At first the woman told me $8 for underarms, then someone else (the owner, I suppose) glanced sideways at me and corrected her, saying it was $15, plus another $30 for a half-leg. I was going to use them regardless of their prices, but I thought the rate change was a bit suspicious. I set an appointment for 3:30. When I checked in at 3:25, the woman who would be waxing me said it would be another five minutes. I went and sat down, and watched her start on a manicure, which took a full 20 minutes. Seriously? The wax was slow, but virtually pain free, which I was happy with at the time. It wasn't until I came home that I noticed entire patches of hair had been missed and my legs were extremely irritated as they have never been before, to the point where shaving would have made it worse. I had to wear opaque tights that night to cover them up. The next day, I already had stubble, making it apparent that the waxer had simply broken the hair rather than tearing it out at the roots, which also explained why I had experienced relatively little pain. Honestly, if the wax had been any good, I wouldn't have cared that the room I was in looked like a back alley abortion clinic, or that the flimsy curtain intended to ensure my privacy wouldn't stay closed. The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is that this is primarily a nail place, and maybe they're good for that. In any case I'm not coming back for any more services. read more
