This is a true hole-in-the-wall nail salon, but they do an amazing job and it's so affordable. Today I got a gel polish change, which included a cut, file, buff, gel polish, and even a short hand massage. All for $15! It probably would've been $12 or 13 if I'd been able to take advantage of their cash discounts. Only cons are that it is definitely a little run-down in there, and it can be hard to understand the employees sometimes. Went in for gel manicure and regular pedicure. I had a Groupon deal - first of all, they said I couldn't avail that without an appointment, which is just rude! Secondly, there were only 2 women who work here and when we went in with 2 mani pedis and 1 mani, they made it sound like we would get done in no time, but made us wait forever! One of them was constantly on her phone or going outside repeatedly. I would give it one more star if at least the quality was good - but the gel mani came off in a week. While visiting Philadelphia for my niece's college graduation, I was in desperate need of a little TLC on my hands and feet. I tried going to Nail Polish Bar on 2nd St and was quoted $55 for a gel manicure! I immediately opened my Yelp app and started searching for another nail salon. I called 4th Street Nails and was told to go right over (even though it was 7:00pm and the business should have been closing at 7:30). The inside gave me pause for a moment, and the fact that there were limited colors from which to choose had me rethinking my decision. Being treated like a queen from the moment I sat down, however, made up for all of that! The workers eagerly agreed to not only give me a manicure but a pedicure as well. Additionally, they went out of their way to find a color I loved. (The male worker put several colors on his own nails to help me choose the best shade of pink!) One worker tended to my feet while two others worked on my hands, and they were all amazingly friendly during my entire experience! Both services combined were cheaper than the one service I was quoted at the afore-mentioned establishment!! My only regret is that I don't live near enough to become a lifetime customer of 4th Street Nails! (I live in Louisiana.) If you are on the fence about visiting this nail salon, don't let the looks of it turn you away. It is definitely a hidden gem. I LOVE this little nail salon! Everyone is so nice and they give the best pedicure in the neighborhood! They have taken covid very seriously, there is plexiglass between all of the stations, it's super clean, and all of the staff is vigilant about masks/shields. I've been coming to 4th Street Nails for a little over a year, and I really won't go anywhere else. The staff is so friendly, and the gentleman who does the acrylic nails is the most meticulous and detail-oriented manicurist I've ever had. You also can't beat their prices, especially in this neighborhood. Regarding Covid protocols, I feel very safe here. I go to this place every few weeks, and while it definitely has it's cons, it is right around the corner from my work and it is pretty cheap (including free airbrushes on certain days). Even though you call to make an appointment, they never write down any of your information or even ask for your name, and sometimes you still have to wait to go after walk-ins, they should probably stop saying they take appointments. I think what this salon lacks in aesthetics it compensates for with its service. This is THE best spot in the area to go for a pedicure. I have come here for my first pedi of the season after a long winter of low/no maintenance or after weeks of wearing heels (which does a number on callouses.) I have definitely been to places where after a pedi, my feel still rough or cuticles disorderly. That is not the case here. They work diligently and also give a good massage. The price of a pedicure is average. They also do a pretty nice eyebrow wax! If you're in the area, try not to be thrown by the outdated look of the place and trust that they have solid service. They're pretty damn thorough on the actual pedicuring part and that's what I really get these for. I don't really care how long a polish lasts as much as i care that they take a lot of time getting my feet looking girly regardless of polish. Jiu-jitsu pretty much blasts thru any polish except for gel so i don't even bother holding my breath for that to last even one training session. Apparently the basic pedicure includes a scrub and massage. She took A LOT of time on the massage and wasn't all weak about it either. Another plus that she didn't make me have awkward chit chat! I went today for the first time and I was thoroughly impressed. I got a gel manicure and a regular pedicure for $45 (gel 25, pedi 20). My technician was very thorough and it is always hard to find someone who is willing to be thorough esp for the price that you pay, but she was great. There were alot of color options as well. It definitely got busy fast even when I was one of the first people to arrive, so while they do accept walk-ins, it might be better to schedule an appointment with them if you can. They do accept credit cards which is also a plus, but they only accept cash tip, which i dont always carry cash with me, so that was a little surprising. Overall, I had a really good experience and will definitely keep this place on my list of future nail salons because they are nice people, inexpensive prices, but take the time to do your nails and do it well! read more

While this salon may not be the most updated place in the area, it certainly is affordable! The staff is friendly and very willing to work with ideas that customers have for their nails. I don't get my nails done often so I try not to spend too much money when I do. When I went on June 1st with a friend we just wanted to get manis and pedis. The price for those together is only $30! What a great deal! I ended up getting acrylic nails with the gel paint, a design, and a pedicure, which only cost $60. To me this is still reasonable considering other salons in the neighborhood. There was a bit of a wait when we entered which was a little upsetting, but expected in a small place. The woman who did my nails worked super hard to get them just the way I wanted. This is by far the best manicure/pedicure I've received in Philadelphia, separate from the price which was very reasonable ($30 for mani/pedi). They really take their time and are committed to providing a quality service, which is far more important to me than the drink or magazine selection. My manicure looks immaculate one week later, which is unprecedented. It was clear during my time there that most of their customers are regulars, which speaks to the quality of the service. The service is great and the technicians are all talented and super friendly. While the shop is small and older I have never gotten a better service anywhere else. I have had pink and whites, pedicures, and manicures done here and all were perfect and inexpensive. The pedicure is what I get done most and for only $20 they spend a lot of time massaging your legs as well as really removing your calluses, not just a quick pumice stone swipe that doesn't accomplish anything. In summary, everyone should give 4th street a shot and remember to tip them based on how great they are, not the total price, $4 tip for an hour of work, even though it's 20% just isn't fair. This place looks pretty scary from the outside, but it's actually alright (although I will agree with other reviewers who said they might not trust the chairs enough to get a pedicure here). I got a manicure and the man who did it was VERY meticulous. He went over any spots he got on the skin with a brush dipped in polish remover and was extremely precise. My nails and cuticles are neat and the polish was applied meticulously. Great for a quick manicure on a work night. I have been coming here for some time now...yes the staff is great but...Tom is the only one that can do overlay/acrylic since Vanessa can't do anymore. There have been several instances where I have been told 'we are too busy & can't take you'! That is really not good customer service considering that I come here often! They need to hire another person as they can't handle the 'walk ins'. They do good work & the prices are less expensive then most (I have a plan B salon & they charge more & do less).
