Took an hour to remove dip from my nails: person doing so was trying to soak my nails and use her fingernail to scrape the dip off vs. a drill or file. Tried to leave (after paying) after an hour mark hit and she decided to try and do someone's gel while waiting for my dip to soak more... she put her hands on my shirt and shoulder and tried to pull me to stay in the store. I've been here so many times and always thought it to be a decent nail salon. The experiences have been generally hit or miss - depending on which manicurist you are assigned with. I do maintain though that Michelle has a real talent when it comes to french manicures. Today was exceptionally disappointing however. It was the lunch hour of a work day so certainly the place was busy and I did not mind the initial 20 minute wait. However after several people who came after me were matched with a manicurist, I politely asked one of the employees how long she anticipated the wait to be. She said another hour and then immediately turned her back. I said (nicely) I wish someone had relayed that to me when I first walked in that it was going to be about a 1.5 hour wait. No one in the world cared less than this lady as she just continued to walk away. Good customer service would have been someone (anyone) acknowledging the customer when he/she walked in with a simple message, synonymous with: "feel free to wait here but you may want to return in an hour if you can." First thumb down for having information that was useful to your client but instead leaving her in the dark. Second thumb down for lack of emotional intelligence - your frequent customer just wasted 20 minutes of her lunch break waiting, you just delivered bad news, the least you can do is pretend to care. I'm relatively undramatic in life - I didn't make a scene when I pulled out of my mouth a long blonde hair baked into a slice of bread at Audrey Claire. I lived without their apology. However I've been going to this place for years. I thought they would have some regard for my loyalty. read more

Needed to get a quick gel manicure in during my lunch break and this place was right around the corner so I popped in. I didn't catch the name of who did my nails but it's definitely one of the best gel manicures I've gotten in a while. I hate when usually my nails are sharp on the ends after getting them done, but she made sure to check the tip of each nail and file off any sharp edges from the polish. It was $30 total which seems to be the typical price for gel manicure. I'll definitely be coming back since it's so convenient! read more

I've been to this place 4 times now. I've received pedicures, a regular manicure, and a couple of gel manicures. The pedicures and regular manicure I received were consistently good. However, a recent gel manicure experience was not what I was expecting. I got a gel manicure for my friend's wedding and 5 days later the polish started peeling off. On certain occasions, I'll get gel instead of regular polish since it lasts longer, but not in this case. Also, I was a little confused on their pricing. This last time I got a gel manicure they charged $5 more than what I normally pay. Rather than $25, they charged me $30. My friend who frequents this place more than me confirmed that she pays $25 for her gel. So, I'm not sure if they change their prices from time to time? Other than the pricing confusion, they do conveniently sell sandals for $3 if you didn't bring any to walk in after your pedicure. They aren't those paper thin pedicure sandals. They are the old navy plain sandals. Overall, I gave them three stars because they consistently provide the expected service. read more

The worst. I chose this salon only based on it's location. I live a block away and was in need of a manicure for the weekend. After 5pm in the city it's hard to find a place that isn't packed let alone one that's open somewhat late. I went in for a basic manicure and wanted a white polish. The guy seemed annoyed but it's my hands and I'm paying for it so who cares. After he clipped and filed my nails I noticed that my thumb nail was crooked and uneven. If asked him to even it out and he did. He clipped my cuticles to the point that when he wiped my nails w/ alcohol before he polished them it hurt b/c the skin was broken. After he applied the base coat he noticed there was not enough polish. Instead of asking me if was ok with choosing a new color or even getting a different white polish, he diluted the polish. I inspected as best as if could while allowing my nails to dry. Once I left and was outside in natural light if noticed that my nails look terrible! We all know it's hard to paint your own nails with your non-dominant hand but if honestly believe if could have done a better job. You can clearly see where there is two coats and where there's not. Not to mention I haven't even had this manicure for 24 hours yet and the polish is chipped on majority of my nails. I guess this is one of those "you get what you pay for" moments when I realize that a $13.00 manicure is exactly that. My advice? Pay the extra money and go to Young's! They take great care of you and they have a loyalty card :) read more

Walk-in on a calm Saturday noon, for a gel mani and regular pedi, and brow wax, left 1.5 hours later. I didn't post pics of the pedi since they were worse than the mani, and you can imagine what that would look like. She skipped using the cuticle pusher, forgoed laying a towel on the work table, despite my request to please do so. I also didn't post pics of the brow wax since I ended up doing most of it myself with her tweezer and wax stick because the technician did not understand what I was saying to her and altogether skipped the underside and side of the brows. I had a horrible experience my first time here. When I walked in I told the lady I wanted a gel mani/regular pedi and was told to pick out a gel color. I was under the impression that whatever gel color I picked also had a matching regular nail polish (like all of the other places I've been to) but after my mani, was told that they didn't have ANY matching nail colors. They told me that the only way they could have my mani and pedi match was by mixing colors (and it still didn't look alright). When I asked if I could pick a new color for my pedi and then have them redo my mani with regular nail polish, they said no. While getting my mani I had an inkling that the color was different than the one I picked and when I went back to look at the samples, I found that there was a slight difference in color. I pointed it out and was told, very loudly, that it was the SAME color. I was told that over time the samples fade but still don't think there should be this kind of difference in color. The manicure wasn't done very well either. There was visible nail near my cuticles and on the sides and a decent amount of nail polish left on my fingers. My nails were reshaped (which I didn't appreciate) and quite a bit of skin was nipped as well. I don't think the quality of the actual mani and pedi are anything to be happy with. Overall, I ended up paying $55 for a gel mani/regular pedi and left extremely unhappy. I was not even offered a discount and felt that I was treated very rudely when it is their responsibility to 1) tell me that they don't carry matching nail polishes with the gel colors and 2) listen to me when I say that the color isn't matching. I even took a photo which I will be posting. I wish I could demand a refund! There needs to be visible signage for prices. I will NEVER be going back to this place and have told everyone I know to never go there as well. If the owner of this establishment reads this, please reach out to me. read more

They have totally changed my opinion. I tried it once more since this review and they were so nice that I tried again and again and again for the past couple of years and they have been amazing. Annie does my nails and she is always so sweet. She also does an awesome pedicure. Always asks about my kids and family as well. She's super sweet. The atmosphere is welcoming as well. There are definitely the stereotypical side conversations but I never feel like I am the subject of any of them. They make me feel so amazing when I leave. I tried this place because I wanted to get my eyebrows done during work hours (3PM) and don't know the area well. I won't be going again. The eyebrow waxing is only $7, but it's not even worth that. The lady quickly waxed my eyebrows and then that was it. She attempted to clean up one side and then rushed me out of there. I had to stop her because she left wax on my face, which tore some of my skin when I tried to clean it off later. I ended up tweezing my own eyebrows later that night because they were still messy. The lady seemed ungrateful for the tip that I gave her, which was generous considering she did a horrible job. There was also an elderly lady in there getting a manicure and they kept badgering her to get a pedicure too. She repeatedly told them that she didn't have time and that she needed to be home by a certain time to get ready for an event that night. They kept pushing and she had to talk them through her entire time table of the rest of the afternoon in order to get them to give up. read more

I had the day off and headed into the city to meet my handsome husband for lunch at Village Whiskey. After stuffing our face with oysters, burger and fries, we walked back to his office. On the way, I noted that my toes needed some TLC. My ever observant hubby noticed a new nail salon that opened up recently next door to his building. So I moseyed on over there, with only 45 minutes left on my parking meter, and crossed my fingers that they were a) not expensive and b) had a pedi chair available. Within a few minutes, I was seated and my toes were soaking in the tub. One of my favorite things about getting a pedicure is the chair massage. Boo. The one I was was broken and only massaged my ass, which I didn't like. :) The pedicure was fine, nothing crazy, but it was thorough and the paint job looked nice. There were not hot stones or a leg massage, but when the clock is ticking, I don't need all that. This nail place is close to my office and has recently become my go to place. Wait times are minimal, they actually honor reservations versus just taking every single walk-in, and do a quick but attentive job. I've gotten regular manicures there that have lasted 4 weeks!! The absolute best place for a mani/pedi! If you're in a rush, they're gold (and who isn't in a rush anymore?) Prices for a gel mani are the best in the city & it lasts for weeks. All of the nail stations & pedicure areas are very clean, the employees are friendly & efficient and there's a huge selection of regular + gel colors to choose from. Hi There!! So, I just recently moved to outside of Philadelphia, and LOVED (still do) my NJ salon. However, the salons that are close to my new PA home were not great. Since I do work in the city, I thought I would try a new salon during working hours and came across JFK - and I am just a block away - PERFECT! I didn't want to write a review based on one experience, so here I am after 2 visits, and I am very pleased! I am strict, gel mani every 2 weeks. I love gel because it lasts longer and looks nicer than regular polish. My 1st visit, I LOVED it. Great mani, and they used the CND light which I never had before. The CND light is a faster drying system, even though gel drying is already quite fast. During the 2 weeks, barely any chipping, didn't go dull, I pulled one off about 10 days in just because it was barely lifting and was annoying me. I went for my 2nd visit today and requested the CND drying system. STILL IN LOVE and will be back!! The gel removal also was much faster than in the past, and is stated on the CND product site. It is nice to have a clean salon with friendly staff close by to the office. And moderately priced, considering they are in Center City. $30 for gel mani, $20 for gel change. Overall Opinion: I will be back, and you should definitely try this place! read more

I've been coming here regularly for years on a monthly basis. I convinced a friend to join today and as we were asked to pay we were informed the price is now $37 not $30. Over a 20% increase in price in a few weeks?!? You'd think a sign notifying customers of this would be posted somewhere. I do believe the ladies there do a good job and I've always overlooked the fact that they have the most minimal polish selection because of that and the price. My go-to nail spot no matter what time or day of the week. They have about 10 stations (Mani and pedi) and always at least 5 nail techs working. never a wait! Nail color selection is not all that fantastic but they offer a little bit of everything. Pedicures are always 20+ minutes long and manicures are always done well... If you are not satisfied just ask to have it re-done.. they dont care. No frills but clean environment with quiet atmosphere and 4 big screen TVs to watch while you lounge. Cheapest prices I've seen in the city. Gel mani/regular pedi for $25 and refill/pedi for only $30. I am beyond disappointed in JFK nails. They recently raised their prices from $30 for a mani/pedi ($20/$10) to $37 ($25/$12). Not only is that a rip off (you can go somewhere much nicer with free champagne for $35), but they have not one sign in the entire establishment with prices on it. I was there last month and paid $30, and then I come back this month and it's $37 - without the courtesy of being told beforehand that the prices went up. I will never be coming back here; it simply is not high-quality enough to be charging these prices. But even more, it is terrible business to not inform loyal customers of price changes - it's dishonest. read more

Very pleased with my 1st trip to JFK nails! Yelp reviews have been very helpful to me in the past, so during my recent trip back to Philly I searched for a basic gel mani at $ price point (not the $$$$ experience that includes champagne & hot stone massages). After reading other Yelp reviews for gel manis in Philly, I was impressed by the reviews for JFK Nails and decided to try it. Thank you JFK Nails for providing a great experience at a reasonable price! I got a meticulously well done gel mani + basic pedicure for $40. My technician was so helpful picking out polish colors and asked several times if I was pleased with the color and/or was comfortable. The facility is very clean and does not have any strong odors. There are multiple TVs throughout the shop, tuned at that time to the local news. You are greeted quickly and at 4pm on a weekday I did not have to wait. The pedi was first. They have about 6 back massaging pedi chairs. The pedi includes trimming, cuticle cleanup, foot scrub, moisturizing lotion, and polish. Did not include massage, reflexology, razor blade/callus remover. Process took about 20 minutes. Moved over to nail station next. Basic mani sequence including trimming, cuticle cleanup, gel polish with intermittent UV drying, and lotion. The UV driers are located on each side of the counter so there is no awkward placement and each nail gets full time in the drier :) The gel mani did not include much of a hand massage (10 seconds maybe) or scrub. Process took about 30 minutes. Again, this place has what I was looking for at a lower price point. There are many places to go in Philly; but, if you want just the basics (without all the extras like massages/alcohol) this is a great choice! JFK Nails is economical with a staff that takes pride in their work and wants to please you! Pros: nails look great, lots of colors, price, clean facility, engaging staff Cons: wish they did a bit more foot/hand massage (especially since they didn't have anyone waiting) Will I go back? Yes! Poor polish selection. Almost all of the polish they do have is dried out, not closed properly, sticky with excess polish. Got a mani pedi, no callus remover. Got a mani/pedi that was fairly priced. Nails came out looking pretty good but the quality of the experience wasn't so great. My feet were soaked in uncomfortably cold water. I was in desperate need of a manicure and pedicure (which I rarely ever get, why spend money on something I can do myself?) and at the last minute I decided in the middle of the day on a Saturday to treat myself. JFK was the second place I called and when I told them I was looking for an appointment within the hour, they did not hesitate. I was also thrilled to find out the mani & pedi special was only $25! A STEAL! I walked in and was assisted immediately. Though the space may not be "luxurious," it was clean, quiet, and friendly. My techinician was incredibly sweet and really made me feel comfortable. I couldn't believe the place was not full on a Saturday afternoon but it was also great because the technician was not rushing to get me out of the chair and on my way. Had gel manicure with a manicurist who used my fingers as her chopping board for her frustrations in her life. She was rude and did an OKAY job on my nails. She was filing to close to my skin and was so rough that I felt like my cuticles felt "beaten". Great place for a non-fuss manicure. I used Hannah and she worked meticulously to make sure I had a flawless manicure. When I get a manicure, I usually watch the person who does it like a hawk to make sure there's nothing wrong and this was not necessary for JFK. They took their time. Bonus- I originally went in thinking I only had time to take off my disastrously old gel manicure ($7) but when I realized I had time to get a manicure that day and came back in the afternoon, they took $7 off the cost of the manicure since they wouldn't usually charge that if you had your nails done there. read more
