When you first enter the store you'll find yourself faced with tables and tables of adorable nick nacks and homewares to browse though - so many cute mugs and beautiful candles! One day I dream that my home will be filled with them. They've also got journals, books, even a kids gift section. Further back you'll find clothing - men's is on the upper level and women's on the lower. They've also got a killer jewellery section (which is where I've found myself most often drooling over the rings and earrings). I never look closely at the clothing because I don't want to tempt myself (out of my price range), but just glancing at the racks I and tell there are a lot of cute things that I hear are really great quality. From the little bit of browsing I've done the sizes are all pretty small...whomp whomp. In the men's section you'll find wallets, shave kits and some really fun socks in addition to the standard clothing fare. Don't miss out on the back section behind the men's clothing where the sale stuff is! They've always got a good selection of sale things. I really love the idea of shopping at Biscuit General, but unless it's some of the smaller items I just don't have the budget for it. It can get very pricey very quickly. It can be a little on the high end for some, but the quality is very good here. We went when they had a fabulous sale on, buy one get the other for a dollar. You just cannot beat that! She measured Mark and then sent us to an area of the store with all of the suites in his size. Once we had picked a few out she reappeared with more helpful hints on tailoring. We even left with shoes when all was said and done! Overall, a great experience! Perhaps this is uniform to tailoring in general but why the extra charges, Moores? If a suit comes without a hem then I don't think you ought to charge someone to finish sewing it. At Moores the cost of basic hemming is $10 and in Mark's case there was an extra cost to extend the sleeves as well... seemed odd to me but other than that, this was a great suit shopping experience! I'm a pretty lean guy so it's nice to find clothes that have a nice fit and aren't baggy on me, whether it's because of me being emaciated, or just the style of the clothing. I love that the clothes aren't covered in logos and in your face designs; good clothes will speak for themselves and have a timeless cut and colour. The staff is always quite helpful here. On my last visit, they held onto some bulky bags from another store I was carrying around and started a room for me while I picked out a few things. There's even a fridge with bottles of water for 75c if you're really exerting yourself in your clothing shopping!.... I was able to find the modern look and style I was looking for, and the pricing was perfect! The store is owned and operated by a Master Tailor who provides custom fittings for anything you buy. I bought a Calvin Klein suit with a french-cuffed Sean John shirt. I didn't like how the shirt looked on me and wanted a more 'slim fit' look. He took my measurements and custom-fitted the shirt within 24 hours. This little hidden gem of a store works mainly on word of mouth and has been for several years now. They can custom make a suit for you in any style you desire. Regardless of your body type, if you like the look of a particular luxury brand (like a Hugo, Canali, or Zegna suit), bring a picture and they'll make a suit for you just like it... but for a fraction of the price!

The saleslady assisting us was very nice and patient. Adam must've tried on at least 2-3 different shirts and more than 5 ties. She was also nice enough to steam the shirt before wrapping it up. They have this cool policy in the store where you can try to put a hole in one mini golf style for $95 off a tie for $2 (and the money goes to charity!). Sadly, both Adam and I missed. But I enjoyed playing a lot! Mini put inside a store! I was surprised no one snubbed us as we did look very ordinary. I think once Adam specifically asked to try on a shirt, they loosened up and realized we were going to buy something. That's when they got friendlier and offered us drinks. But I really only liked the lady who helped us, the rest seemed unbothered and lazy.

They had just opened up a small shop on the harbourfront boardwalk the same week we were in town. Lucky for me, I tagged along on her shopping trip. The Lost Cod is a fantastic idea for Halifax, and it could work in any city. The logos from old Halifax and Nova Scotia companies are freshened up and can be applied to shirts and hoodies. The price is reasonable, the clothing's good quality, and the worst part is that you can't fit all of the old-timey business logos on just one shirt.

I'm an electrical/power engineer and I had to get a t-shirt with the Nova Scotia Electric on it. They printed the logo on the shirt right in front of me with a hot press. Also, they don't just print on crappy material like most companies out there. They printed on high quality tees and you have the option of selecting what tee you would like. Although I did wish they had a few more V necks to choose from. I went to the shop that was on the Harbourfront Boardwalk, i'd love to check out their Queen's Landing location someday too. I also purchased a couple of awesome stickers with some classic Nova Scotia and Halifax in particular logos. They even threw one in on the house. Two levels - girls on the first floor, guys clothing on the second. They have a large record section upstairs with the guys clothing. The housewares is a little sparse (also upstairs) which is disappointing because that's some of my favourite stuff UO sells. It might be a little smaller than other UO you've been into, but since it's downtown on Barrington I think they were able to scored a large feeling retail space. Today was opening day so the staff was really friendly, and a little chaotic, but that's understandable. I'm sure in a couple weeks it will clam down.
