I don't like to buy suits from bulk-barn type stores like Tip Top or Moors because their stuff is geared towards older people and doesn't stand out. Yet, like most people in Halifax, I can't always afford the exuberant prices of exclusive brands carried by stores like Duggers. The Suitor was the best of both worlds. I was able to find the modern look and style I was looking for, and the pricing was perfect! The store is owned and operated by a Master Tailor who provides custom fittings for anything you buy. I bought a Calvin Klein suit with a french-cuffed Sean John shirt. I didn't like how the shirt looked on me and wanted a more 'slim fit' look. He took my measurements and custom-fitted the shirt within 24 hours. This little hidden gem of a store works mainly on word of mouth and has been for several years now. They can custom make a suit for you in any style you desire. Regardless of your body type, if you like the look of a particular luxury brand (like a Hugo, Canali, or Zegna suit), bring a picture and they'll make a suit for you just like it... but for a fraction of the price!

I didn't have super high expectations based on the redundancy of the commercials. Cheeseball Quotes such as: "You're going to like the way you look" and "When everyone's looking at her, she'll be looking at you." - were playing in my head and as a result my expectations were low. As it turned out, Moores was actually a pretty decent shopping experience at this location. I realize that selling a suit to a guy who comes in with his girlfriend might be tough for some but our tailor/saleslady was great! She measured Mark and then sent us to an area of the store with all of the suites in his size. Once we had picked a few out she reappeared with more helpful hints on tailoring. We even left with shoes when all was said and done! Overall, a great experience! Perhaps this is uniform to tailoring in general but why the extra charges, Moores? If a suit comes without a hem then I don't think you ought to charge someone to finish sewing it. At Moores the cost of basic hemming is $10 and in Mark's case there was an extra cost to extend the sleeves as well... seemed odd to me but other than that, this was a great suit shopping experience! Painless, even for M.

Dang budgets. When you first enter the store you'll find yourself faced with tables and tables of adorable nick nacks and homewares to browse though - so many cute mugs and beautiful candles! One day I dream that my home will be filled with them. They've also got journals, books, even a kids gift section. Further back you'll find clothing - men's is on the upper level and women's on the lower. They've also got a killer jewellery section (which is where I've found myself most often drooling over the rings and earrings). I never look closely at the clothing because I don't want to tempt myself (out of my price range), but just glancing at the racks I and tell there are a lot of cute things that I hear are really great quality. From the little bit of browsing I've done the sizes are all pretty small...whomp whomp. In the men's section you'll find wallets, shave kits and some really fun socks in addition to the standard clothing fare. Don't miss out on the back section behind the men's clothing where the sale stuff is! They've always got a good selection of sale things. I really love the idea of shopping at Biscuit General, but unless it's some of the smaller items I just don't have the budget for it. It can get very pricey very quickly. That being said if you have more room in your budget definitely give Biscuit General a shot - it's definitely a local gem!

The staff is very friendly and knowledgable about their products and I don't find them pushy at all and are always willing to help. They all make note to know you on a personal level if you are a frequent shopper. They have a very limited clothing selection I find they have a bigger display of accessories and shoes. There was a sales associate who was wearing a navy blue jumper and I immediately fell in love and knew I had to have it. Unfortunately they were completely sold out everywhere so one of the girls tracked it down in Calgary and was able to ship it to my house. They do tend to steer customers away from MK outlet stores saying they aren't the same thing as the regular stores. They have an amazing selection and their products are made to last. About a month later I returned just for the heck of it. I needed a backpack. However, this time I was dressed in a Club Monaco dress with a shiny new Coach purse flung over my shoulder. One of the sales associates I recognized from the previous month's "experience." I had barely stepped foot into the store when I hear: "Hello! Do you need any help finding anything Ma'am?" I guess I give them a star for that quick response, also another star for the wide array of merchandise available at this location. Meh.

I don't really indulge mush in Monaco's offerings; the prices are on the high side, but fairly so for the lush quality. Can we please talk about cashmere? My heart goes va-va-voom for this sensual, seriously aphrodisiacal material. So you'll imagine my libido revving when I discovered a $100 cashmere scarf slash large blanket shrug at Club Monaco a season or two ago. I didn't make the purchase, but I do wish to this day that I owned such a treasure. The employees at this location are ever so helpful; bringing you sizes, offering options, and simply being attentive and professional. And heyo, they give a student discount if you show your ID, which is a huge bonus if you're buying expensive items! So have at it, my friends. And while the prices are enough to leave you high and dry, sometimes its just worth it. I noticed a few changes in the store's layout since my last visit. The infamous sale room has been transformed into a brooding mens selection. Disappointing for me, as I always enjoyed having this specific little room to browse discounted goods. Sigh. Alas, sales have been moved to the back corner on the opposite end and still offer some token steals. I found a gorgeous periwinkle colored chiffon blouse for $29 (Regular $68) with just the right amount of sparkle. Charming-- it was love at first sight. Another top with a super soft touch and scoop neck-back had me at hello. (Also $29) Check please! The store's spring/ summer selection was drool inducing-- svelte trenches, willowing summer tops and dresses to class up the best of us. Club Monaco never disappoints when the warm months roll around. I decided upon the two shirts-- they were steals after all. And to further add to my excitement, I received an extra 20% off my purchase because I had my student card. Shwing! It was the ultimate icing on the cake. Students must get 20% sale prices, and I applaud Club Monaco on this. All in all, CM is usually stocked in high class. Prices aren't always friendly, but the quality is great, and shoppers can find some true deals if they hit at the right time. My most recent visit renewed a past love, and I'm looking forward to sporting my new discounted threads. Whew!

Eclectic musings come together to form Lost & Found's fashionably homemade North End boutique . The shop's mood is quiet and thoughtful, just as its clothes. Music is easy, and the store keeper sews away in a corner wooden chair. Piecing through the assorted racks, I become awe struck by the profuse selection of gorgeous things. Most times I am able to edit down final selections before the efforts of the fitting room; however, this was not the case. The clothing variety is of impeccable taste, as every item on display is hand picked, and/or altered with special detailing. And with such reasonable pricing-- it all seems too good to be true. (A large rack dedicated to post-season sales provides some gorgeous steals!) Clothing is displayed on thick wooden hangers, and well managed framework; the result is chic and polished confines. Divorce Records is an added bonus to the Lost & Found experience. Peek through this Halifax based label's selection for some stellar anti-industry music variety.
