Hubby and I stopped by Tio Colo's to try the famous bocaditos de helado. These were a perfect late night dessert - not too sweet and good size. We tried the dulce de leche and guayaba. The fruit flavor was on the light side and could have been more flavorful. The sandwich part was a fluffy cake like texture topped with a little sugar. I would definitely recommend Tio Colo's bocaditos de helado!
Really cute ice cream store in a strip mall. This was my first time trying a Cuban ice cream sandwich. I chose Guava flavor which was really good. The server was very nice. I look forward to trying other flavors another day.

So this has been on my radar for a while as I have never tried a Cuban pizza before or their speciality ice creams. I am married to a Cuban, but he is essentially a New Yorker having been a NYPD Lieutenant out there for many years. He told me "you won't particularly like the Cuban pizza" as he claims to know me, and he is also not bothered himself eithger about the Cuban style of pizza, preferring other alternatives. He never has ordered it or had it to my knowledge in the 6.5 years I have known him. Any way....... I came today to try both. I ordered the Guava pizza, as I was very curious as to what it was. I have had a Nutella pizza before and it took me a few tries to accept a sweet pizza, (but it did grow on me). The pizza is definitely NOT Italian that's for sure. I enjoyed it, but it is definitely not my fever, or as us Brits say "my cup of tea". There was nothing wrong with the pizza, the service or the establishment, I just prefer a thinner crispier Italian style pizza. From what I can muster Cuban pizza is more like a doughy thicker softer crust, more like a bread, and that to me is stodgy n heavy. I am very glad I sampled it though, and would not be opposed to trying it again, maybe a different one. Incidentally to be noted the pizza is made fresh and took about ten minutes and was piping hot. Then I tried their ice cream, which is a slice of ice cream sat between a sheet pan cake with a light sugar dusted on it and sealed in a nice package. They had load of flavours to choose from (approx 15 I would guess). I tried the coconut one, which was pleasant, but no wow factor for me. Again I would be happy to try another flavour. These are probably a fun way to get a stack for a party! (if you are a fan of course) The lady behind the counter was very friendly and helpful and told me that it was originally her Fathers shop. I love the fact that it is a family business. So if you love Cuban style pizza, and Cuban style ice cream, this is surely your spot. Go try it out.

It's on the corner of an industrial style strip mall. It's a small location and there are no tables to sit. It's strictly pick up and take out. I was surprised by that. Would love to see a table or two in the future. Cuban style pizza is not for everyone, but I really like it. I ordered the personal Hawaiian pizza. Bonus points for all the ham they top it with- and it's chopped in really small pieces. Of course I had to try the famous ice cream bocaditos and they did not disappoint. I got the mantecado and the almendra. They're really good. The outer cake portion is dusted with sugar. It was delicious. The woman behind the counter was friendly and the food did not take long to prepare. I don't think I was there more than 10 minutes. It was fresh and the pizza was steaming hot. If I'm in the area again I will definitely stop by to try some of the other ice cream flavors.
I'm absolutely obsessed with the bocaditos de helado (aka Cuban ice cream sandwiches) from this spot. I've been coming here throughout the years, and it always hits. Today I tried the dulce de leche bocadito, which was dulce de leche ice cream sandwiched between two soft cookies dusted with sugar. I'm not doing the cookie portion justice because it's definitely something you gotta try to understand. They serve it tightly wrapped in parchment paper straight from the freezer, so you gotta give it just a few minutes to melt for it to be at it's peak deliciousness. Tio Colo's is located in an unassuming warehouse area in Hialeah, so you may get a little confused/lost thinking you're going the wrong way. Don't worry... you ain't. Plenty of parking out front!
Best Cuban pizza in Miami! I absolutely love their chorizo personal pizza, the crispy crust is what always get me! The personal pizza is perfect for one and it is only $6. Aside from the pizza they also have delicious ice cream sandwich which are $2. I always end up buying minimum 4 ice cream sandwich's and a personal pizza. It's a great spot, very small but perfect. My brother heard great things about these little Cuban "ice cream sandwich" bocaditos. I wasn't too sure what to expect. It was a tiny little shop. Friendly staff. Make you feel at home. The desert was unique and delicious! They have a ton of flavors to choose from. Just wish i had ordered more to take home lol. They also have amazing pizza supposedly, but we already ate so we didn't get it. But i really want to try the pizza next time! I wish i lived closer, but I'll definitely be back when in the area :)
Hidden away next to a hairsalon in Hialeah's warehouse district is a ice cream and Cuban pizza speakeasy. You see a counter, a few chairs, and a door. If you say hi to the sweet Cuban abuela at the counter and peek in, you'll see a pizza oven and a cart of ice cream sandwiches (aka Bocaditos). For the uninitiated, Cuban Pizza is similar to Chicago pizza, with more cheese and a fluffier crust but with the toppings on the pizza rather than baked in. I ordered my usual (yep Hawaiian) pizza, personal size and was sure to ask for extra sauce (and they didn't backcharge). The pizza had plenty of ham, pineapple and of course extra tomato sauce. The crust was fluffier than my usual thin crust but all of the taste was there. The shop is also known for "bocaditos" Ice cream sandwiches, and I ordered an orange and pineapple one. It was more of a sorbet, and not overly sweet, and served on a slightly toasted biscuit (tasted like the "base" of a poptart). Service was excellent for what's nominally a takeout spot. I didn't want to take my food home to avoid washing dishes and sharing with Luna (bad dog dad) and the hostess accomodated, letting me eat there.
Tio Colo did not disappoint! Started with the cheese Cuban pizza -- that Cuban-style crust and cheese combo is such a fun twist on regular pizza. Then I tried the Tio Colo Dog Roll: rolled pizza dough stuffed with an all-beef hot dog, pepperoni, and mozzarella, served with marinara. Genius idea, super tasty. I also grabbed the plantain chips fried in beef tallow, and let me tell you -- OFF THE CHAIN!! Hands down the best plantain chips I've ever had. Washed it all down with an Iron Beer soda (such a nostalgic Cuban classic) and finished with two Tio Colo Bocaditos de Helado (you get to pick the flavor) -- I went with guava and dulce de leche, and both were amazing. Authentic Cuban flavor, creative menu items, and great portions. The staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommend if you're in the Hialeah or Miami area. Will definitely be back to try more! read more

We only came here for the ice cream sandwiches! Loved the way they make them. The cuban style ice cream is great and the variety of flavors is unbelievable. They also sell the Cuban pizzas that we will try another day! Great job Tio Colo! Now I can't go back to regular supermarket-plain vanilla ice cream sandwiches You guys set the bar pretty high!!! Great pizza spot in Hialeah. They are quick to make and the pizzas are quite tasty. My favorite was the personal pizza because it offered a crispy bottom without over burning. The only complaint is that the supreme option wasn't as crispy so I would recommend the personal sizes read more

Solid four stars for Tio Colo! Best Cuban Pizza in Dade and Broward. Now that they have tables and chairs you can dine in. I have noticed this pizza taste best when eaten shorty after it comes out of the oven. Chorizo is the way to. 9/15/2018 Another trip to Tio Colo as I had the urge! Pizza was not as good as last time. The crust this time lacked that crunchy texture and the amount of chorizo was on the skimpy side. There seems to be some inconsistency, was not bad but certainly not as good as it has been. Writing it off to a bad day but if it continues I may take it down a notch. read more
I loved Tio colos pizza! The ice cream too even though I shouldn't be eating it cause they aren't dairy free. Lol The pizza was ready in about 10-15 minutes once I placed the order. I actually called and picked up the pizza. I have to say that this pizza was really good! I am so coming here if I don't get my usual at Dominos. The fact that they have a Guava Pizza was what drew me in to come and try out this place. The pizza was a mix of sweet and salty just perfect. I also ordered a Hawaiian personal pizza because that's my favorite. read more

Stopped in this little spot to get what I can only describe as the "Cuban Ice Cream Sandwich", it's a WIN! I didn't witness it but these things look and taste homemade. God Bless whoever takes the time to do this! Imagine a regular ice cream sandwich, but with better quality and MORE product. The "bread" of the sandwich isn't the hard cookie type. These are light, thin slices of cake with a tiny sprinkle of sugar(which isn't necessary IMO). These things are AWESOME but they melt IMMEDIATELY so you may wanna try them at the store. A bit on the pricey side, especially for the size but the time to make and wrap is appreciated and makes up for it. Good Stuff! read more

What a hidden gem!!! Thank god for apple maps because we would have never known this place existed. Small little walk in shop, just sells pizza and Cuban ice cream sandwiches. Hard to explain but think of yellow cake (but not cake) with sugar all over it and ice cream in the middle. Kinda like that but 100x better than what I tried to explain haha. Just amazing. We tried the Guava (my FAV), dulce de leche, cookies & cream and chocolate. Hands down worth stopping by if your ever in the area. read more
One of Hialeah/Miami hidden Gems! This is one of the Best Cuban pizzas I have had in Miami. The dough is airy and not dense at all. The sauce is not to salty or sweet. They use two types of cheeses. Which are gouda and mozzarella cheese. The pizza maker was brought from Cuba to make the Delicious Pies. They have no delivery! You can call your order in and pick it up. I have had the Bacon and ham pizza. Both were Delicious. The inside is small no area to sit and eat your Pizza but I have heard they are going to renovate the place to accommodate some tables and chairs. They also have ice cream sandwiches or Cuban Bocaditos. It's ice cream sandwiched between a thin sugar cake. My favorite flavors to get are coconut, almond, and vanilla. Que Sabroso! This little hole in the wall is tucked deep into the Northwest Hialeah area where warehouses and businesses are abundant. But don't worry plug it into your GPS and you will find it. Plenty of parking is available in the small plaza. This is a must visit. In fact, If I were to do a blog on Top 10 places to visit in Hialeah...this would definitely make the list. Purely for authenticity alone. When you walk into this location, small is an understatement. The pink color is a little shocking at first but you do get a sense of Cuba. You are greeted by the friendly Cuban owner and her son. The one thing I admire most is the drive that some Cubans have to make it here in the United States. The owner and her son have that drive. They have done a wonderful job creating an authentic bocadito de helado Cubano (Cuban Ice Cream Pastry). They have a variety of flavors but my favorites were of course the guava, mamey, and coco. Pure Cubanita right here. My mom had the Chocolate and she loved it. They are $2 a pop so it is easy to go over board. Do not expect an elaborate dessert. Its simple, straightforward, and delicious. No surprises here. The Pizza here blows Rey's Pizza out of the water. It is your typical Cuban Pizza (Please do not compare it to Italian Pizza. You will be disappointed). Thick bread, light on sauce, heavy on the cheese. What's not to love? They have a small size for $5 or you can add toppings for an extra dollar. They also have a large size. This place gets packed so make sure to call ahead if you want pizza. read more

Ok for years now I have loved Tio Colo's bocadito ice cream sandwiches. They are amazing and they take me back to my childhood. My favorite ones is Malta & Mango. For a while back now they have been making cuban pizza and I was a little skeptical about trying it. Well I finally did and oh my goodness, I had no idea what I was missing! Literally the best cuban pizza I've had, probably in my life. Will definitely be a pizza customer from now on! Yummy!!!! read more

I really can't stress how authentically Cuban this place is. This brings back so many memories for me. As a child going grocery shopping daily at Xtra or Sedanos my grandfather will let me get a bocadito de helado at the end. Not only did I enjoy doing groceries with him I especially looked forward to this cake and ice concoction. As I got older and stop going with him on these trips I stopped having my bocaditos. I didn't hear or see if these for at least 10-15 years. Then I saw this place tucked away in a corner of a not so populated warehouse district in HIALEAH gardens (fortunately for me on the same street of my house) and suddenly all these wonderful memories came back. They taste as good as I remember. They have so many more choices than the typical vanilla strawberry or chocolate. My favorite growing up was chocolate now I truly enjoy the Mamey or cookies and cream. Not only do they have the ice cream sandwiches but now they Cuban pizza too. The ham is really good but the best is the bacon or chorrizo. Crazy good better than Reys pizza or any other spot. Support these local Cuban owned businesses and have your self a treat at Colos. You won't be disappointed. read more

Since I first tried cuban pizza five months ago while I was traveling for work in NYC it became my favorite pizza ever. When I moved back to sunny Florida three months ago, I found myself looking desperately for a cuban pizza place... I just couldn't help it... It was love at first sight and I knew it I will be lucky since Hialeah (most famous cuban neighborhood in America) is located in SoFlo. Also as any Yelper would have done, I took at look on Yelp about what would be the best place to find cuban pizza in Soflo so I found this place and I got excited right away! We drove to the address the app shows and we got to one of their locations (tiny space, no sitting tables, is more like a pickup place) but the lady who was in charge was very very nice and told us to try a different location that actually has tables. We got to this location but it was kinda hard to find it because they don't have a sign with the name of the place. Actually they still have the old sign with the old name of the place lol! Even though the staff was nice they seemed to be really disorganized and not prepared at all. We Were seating there and nobody offered us drinks or anything. When the guy who was making the pizza at the kitchen showed up at the tables we could ask him for drinks (thank God). Other customers showed up and they seemed to be also disappointed with the customer service. I'm sure next time I go to this place they have improved their service because even though I had a 'meh' experience yesterday, the food was absolutely awesome. read more

I had been following this place on Instagram for quite some time and had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to convince my man (who isn't a pizza fan - wth , right?!) to go grab some at Tio Colo for me. Today was finally the day! He actually volunteered to go for me (I really try to avoid driving in Hialeah whenever possible) and ... Oh am I ever glad he did!! The pizza is so, so, so delicious - authentic tasting CUBAN pizza. Yum! My man also surprised me and picked up some ice cream as well. The mantecado was PERFECTION. I am laying in bed right now as I type this and my tummy is just so content and all I want to do is go to sleep haha. #helloooooheartburn Can't wait to have some more amazing pizza from Tio Colo!!! read more
