We had lunch at this restaurant today and it was a terrible experience. Ordered cafe con leche & cortadito when we first sat down. It took at least 15 minutes & arrived cold. Sent back & they made new ones which were ok. Cuban sandwich was missing pickles, very thin & not pressed. Frita was just a burger, no seasoning at all. Ordered croqueta with Swiss cheese & mayo. Was told that they would bring the mayo separate. Arrived cold & no mayo. My only positive remark is that the restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated. It took forever to be served. Masitas de Puerco Frita (fried pork chunks) was delicious. The pieces of pork were tender and moist. Very, very good and would highly recommend. However, it needed a little bit more seasoning but I fixed that by dipping them in mojo. One of the dishes my husband has been searching for is Arroz Imperial. We found it here as one of the Daily Specials. My husband loved it. They're very busy so the attentiveness of the servers is a little spotty but overall, still good service. I arrived to the location and the table was dirty. Second when my cream of cheese soup came to our table the soup was not hot at all. Tasted good but was need even hot.Next my partners sirloin steak came and mind me when I said it was more fat that's meat literally! My family and I have been coming here for more than 20 years. Food has always been good here,only bad thing is the terrible service with new staff. I picked up order and the waitress stacked all of the plates on top of each other, when i got to the car i noticed the food containers got crushed and everything started spilling from the sides of the metal plate (spilling everywhere).After I cleaned up the mess in my car,I go back inside only asking for new bags to take my food since the containers were all filled with spaghetti sauce and the bag was a pool of sauce and instead of apologizing for stacking all of the flexible plates on top of each other and messing up my car (which i would have understood because accidents happen),the employee at the front desk told me with a very rude attitude that it was my fault that happened in front of everyone in the restaurant....terrible customer service,never ordering here again. Great tasting food! This place is a total gem! Authentic Cuban restaurant! We tried the fried pork chops( seasoned to perfection) and the ground beef spaghetti! The spaghetti was so delicious! Customer service was okay but I think it would have been better if we spoke Spanish. I think there was only 2 people on staff that spoke a little English. When looking for authentic Cuban food, this is a where you would find it! They have different locations around Miami, 4 that come to mind, but after eating at those 4 I have concluded there's nothing like the one on 29th street! I've been visiting this location for years, other than some remodeling and some new faces the staff has remained the same for quite some time. The pan con bistec here is always amazing, but the pizza is really what they're known for. The pan con bistec is deliciously seasoned, comes with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and papitas! I loveeeee papitas! The pizza is nice and thick, deep pan bake and always cooked to a crispy perfection. My only complaint this week when visiting had to have been the mojito for the mariquitas... It tasted exactly like what the steak was marinated in so probably won't order that again, it's been a whole since my last visit and don't remember it ever tasting that way. This location has been my favorite since I was a little girl and although I don't live in the area, it's worth the drive for me. read more

Recently, I spent a looooong day working nearby and decided to walk over to Polo Norte for lunch. We ordered 4 personal pizzas and a half dozen garlic rolls. I'm really not a fan of "cuban pizza", but I decided to order mine a little extra cubany (trust me that's a word) and added sweet plantains as a topping. The garlic rolls came out first - nothing fancy, but pretty darn good! Once the pizza arrived, I have to say, mine looked really appetizing and it was. I finished 3/4 of it and gave the rest to someone else who also enjoyed it. I've never thought to put maduros on a pizza until then... not a bad idea! Everyone else was happy with their orders as well. I'll definitely be back again some time for that pizza. Almost forgot! Later, we walked back over for the ice cream. That was also very good. The service was terrible. Our waitress came over completely flustered and didn't even greet us right away. After ordering my father noticed a bug in his water. He didn't make a big fuss, and he even pointed out that maybe it flew in. The waitress took the water away but never bothered to bring a replacement. Two of us got our food, but not my two children, their food came out 10 minutes after mine, and I had to ask my 1 yr old and 6 yr old to patiently wait for their meals. My father ordered an ice cream and found a piece of metal in his ice cream. The waitress shrugged and said it must be from the bowls, offered a replacement ice cream but that was it. After two issues the bill came at full price, even after some of stopped eating after the two issues. No apologies, nothing! Needless to say I won't be back again. What's best about these folks is that they aren't just another Latin diner, they also have a full ice cream section to their restaurant which further encourages you to leave space for dessert. It's a solid spot to cure your Latin food craving and with items on their menu for every picky eater of every age group-it makes it perfect for large groups that need variety. It's very clean inside and you'll constantly see someone brooding and wiping down tables which shows that cleanliness is definitely one of their fortes. They've branched out and opened up several more locations in Miami but being raised in Hialeah gives this spot precedence on my list. Just thinking about Polo Norte right now is making my mouth water.. I'm Cuban and raised in Hialeah so i know good Cuban food, and this, is GOOOOOOD Cuban food. The best i've tried. I've had many of their dishes but my two favorites are the pepperoni pizza and the bistec uruguayo. Their pizza is mind blowing. Very fat and soft dough with a lot of cheese. The best part about this pizza is the crust, of lack thereof. It doesn't have much of a crust but the cheese always gets burnt and crusty in the back and it will bring tears to your eyes. Now... for the absolute best Cuban dish i've ever had.. The bistec uruguayo. Oh my god. This is a Polo Norte specialty. It's fried breaded steak stuffed with swiss cheese, ham, chorizo and bacon. Need I say more? I really can't put into words how good this is. Just take my word for it.. although I can't explain it. The serving size is very large, just like every other dish here. I usually order it with white rice and platano maduros. Be warned- If you order this, you will force yourself to finish this plate until you can no longer breathe... this is normal, don't worry. read more

They don't greet you they just bring water and menu and then u have to wait half and hr to take the order then almost 1hr for the food the food was blah the waitress were very slow and not attentive to our needs. Just to be clear, there are two Polo Nortes in Hialeah, this one and the one next to the Palmetto. If you're looking for pizza, spaghetti, or ice cream and want a quick bite then go to this one! But if you're looking for a nicer atmosphere and want a real good dinner then go to the one next to the Palmetto. Since I was a child, I have been coming to this place and I love that it is casual and there's always seating. This might not seem like a big deal to most, but the arcade corner is great for entertaining a little kid and the crane machine actually works! I've been coming here since this placed open under original ownership. I just had the worst experience in almost 30 years, the delivery took over an hour which sometimes that happens, normal they are busy, food makes up for it. The pizza arrived cold and the ice cream was melted, looked like a soup. I called to let them know. Silvia apparently the one In charge told me to put it in the freezer as the option "no se que hacer" Style response. I asked to speak to the owner and she replied she was trying to give me a solution I explained putting in the freezer is not one. She offered to send the ice cream again, great, 1.5 hours later ice cream still doesn't arrive, I call for info and I'm told delivery is on the way, at this point they are rude on the phone and someone tells "este otra vez" to silvia when she basically stopped answering. Long story short, went to the store to return the ice cream and I'm confronted with a younger bald guy from the back telling me "que no te pongas hablar tanto" trying to tell me they are always full (duh that's why I've been coming here for so long, when you make a mistake you own it and fix it) Additionally I asked for his name, Silvia advised she was not going to give me his name and she's been there for 21 years and never had an issue, at this point I remind her I want the owner to contact me. Then this older guy comes from behind me asking me what the problem is, ends up being Silvia's husband that was trying to intimidate me from the escalation. This is the only Cuban place that is up to par with my Abuela's cooking. If you come with a big party, be prepared to wait. It does get full on nights and weekends so keep that in mind if you decide to dine with them. They offer take out and delivery which is a great alternative to waiting at the restaurant for a table. The food is exceptional and the prices are more than fair. You can never go wrong with the pizza here! I would also recommend the churrasco if you're very hungry, you'll get a big piece of meat for a great price. If you're a cheese fan, try the crema de queso and experience true deliciousness. Their menu has so much variety that there is something for everyone, including kids. The best part is that the food comes out fairly quickly, even when the place is full. Why four stars and not five? Sometimes the service can be lacking. I don't know how many times I've come with friends and family and the waitress forgets to bring someone's drink.
