I ventured outside my safe and predictable bubble this week to try something new. I used the "Talk" feature on the Yelp app to get a recommendation for a new stylist. I've been seeing the same hair colorist for over 10 years, so finding someone new to manage my hair coloring needs filled me with anxiety. Thank you Sarah C. recommending Tint in the Hollywood neighborhood. I was immediately greeted with warmth and professionalism by my stylist, Barri. She is perfectly lovely, and made me feel safe and comfortable. She looked at photos of my favorite hairstyles in the past, offered some recommendations, then immediately set to work. Barri worked quickly, yet remained conversational and pleasant the entire time. We had a great conversation while my hair was in the foils and the color set. I am really pleased with how natural the highlights look. I would like to thank Barri for her remarkable craftsmanship, and welcome her as a newcomer to Portland. She is a fantastic stylist and great communicator, and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a new stylist. Tint is a charming salon in the Hollywood District. This is where the amazing colorists will give your drab hair the va va boom it needs. Parking is on the street so get there a bit early. I have been to two of the stylists, Melissa and Chelsea, and I feel they are both at the top of their game in the hair world. They enjoy their work, take the time to listen and ask the right questions to make sure your hair do and color is fabulous. Tint also offers massage and they also have a esthetician/make up artist on staff. There is a large selection of products to choose from to keep your locks fresh. I went here for a brow service with their wonderful esthetician, Sara Dyer. I have dark hair but some of my brow hairs are very blonde and look spars, and doing my makeup takes so much longer. I wanted to try a brow tint service to see if it'd make a difference. My only other experience with tinting was a lash lift and tint gone wrong at another salon, so I initially felt nervous going into this. Thankfully, Sara is so kind and warm and made me feel incredibly at ease! The aesthetic of her studio alone made it feel calm. Sara asked me lots of questions to make sure that she tailored my brows to my liking, explained every step of the process so that I knew what was happening, and even offered to help clean up the little stray eyebrow hairs so that my brows looked their best. I was so grateful for that!! One thing to note is that Tint's website lists an eyebrow tint for $15 when Sara's actual price is $25. I totally didn't mind paying that at all, but it is a ten dollar difference. For the most accurate display of services and prices, I'd click the link to Sara's website on Tint's esthetic section. Neal Foy has magical hair powers, on color and cuts. He gave me what is apparently the best hair cut of my life (and I have been around for a while and gotten hundreds of cuts). I have a cowlick that usually forces my hair forward into my face, forcing me to pin it back. Neal cut it in some fantastic voodoo way and now it stays back on its own. He also highlighted my hair with a vibrant deep purple, and it's lasted for weeks and I get many compliments! Thank you, Neal! You're amazing. read more

I've had my hair done a few times now by Chelsea Gomes at Tint Salon, and she does an amazing job! I like to have natural looking highlights added, especially during our dark winters when I start to lose my real summer highlights. I talked to Chelsea about what I wanted--which was definitely not a cheap looking dye job that looked fake. I am pretty scared when it comes to adding color to my hair, and we've all seen those people who have gotten a botched color job, eeek! She really listened to me, and made me feel confident. Chelsea knew exactly how to blend in my new highlights with my real ones and the hair color looked amazing and natural. I think Chelsea is one of the best Portland hair colorists in town. She also gave me some tips on a better haircut, and added volume to my long hair with some carefully placed layering around my face. I got tons of compliments. She is an experienced stylist who really listens to her clients, and she is super nice and easy to talk to. Also, she is really efficient, and I didn't feel like I had to spend half my day in there, which is nice because I am always too busy to go have my hair done. I just returned from a trip to see Inga for a facial. It never fails to amaze me what a relaxing, inviting environment Tint has created in this great, old house. From the moment I open the front door to the walk upstairs to Inga's little slice of heavenly real estate, it is a GOOD experience. Inga has a knack to make me feel completely relaxed while she is engaging me in conversation. My eyes are covered with cotton, but the smells are recognizable. Lavendar, rosemary, fruits.....my skin starts singing! I cannot name my favorite park. The peel? The massage? The steam? The creamy potions? I know my least favorite part is LEAVING. I was always intimdated by facials....I cannot tell you why. It intrigued me, but I was nervous. I have been going to Inga for 3-4 years and it's one of my favorite appointments to write in my book. I was a masage girl for years, but now I would choose a facial over a massage. I leave relaxed wth radiant skin. And it LASTS. I look hydrated & sparkly for a week if not longer. I highly recommend Inga's at Tint. They provide many services....many I have not yet taken advantage of, but intend to do so soon. read more

I have been going to Denny at Tint for 5+ years now. He is an expert and will make your hair look gorgeous. And usually, if he's in a chatty mood you can get some good gossip out of him while he's styling you!;-) The bungalow remodeled for the salon is super charming, the hair products at Tint are top of the line and their color work is amazing. Several of my girlfriends also see Denny as well. The only drawback is that it can be tough to get in on short notice. So if you need a treatment in less than 2 weeks, you are usually out of luck unless you can go at an off-peak time. Denny is usually booked at least 3-4 weeks out, sometimes longer. If you want to go to a solid colorist who you know will do a fabulous job, no question Denny is it. read more

When I booked a facial with Inga I thought I knew what to expect as I have gotten a couple of facials before. What Inga bestowed was so much more than your standard skin care experience. Inga's room is an oasis. Everything has been considered. Soft music and candles combine with perfectly appointed decor to create a relaxing, welcoming and stress draining environment with which she uses to transform your skin into a better version of itself. Comfortably nestled under a blanket, Inga started with a thorough cleaning of my skin, followed by an wonderful progression of treatments. She was professional and intuitive. Behind closed eyes, I have no idea what she what doing (even though when I asked later she told me all the magical things she did.) All I know is when I was worried that it was almost over, I heard the beautiful words, "We are about halfway done." Not only was the experience itself tremendous, the affects are lasting. Days and even weeks later people commented on how rested I looked. 41 years old and carded more regularly than I was ten years ago. Am I going back to see Inga again? I have baby fine hair & pretty much no skill in the styling department. Tanya is patient with me & helps me find a cut & color I can handle without being pushy or snobby. Funny story, but when I was interested in a new stylist, I used the advice of looking around to see who's hair looked great & asking where they go. There's a woman at my gym who has gorgeous hair & I finally worked up the nerve to bug her about who she saw...obviously, Tanya at TINT! Tanya is amazing with color & is able to make it look like your color is supposed to be there...not that obvious 'I color my hair!' effect you see on some women. She has even told me to wait until the next appointment to color instead of taking advantage of the fact I don't know what I'm doing =). I moved to Portland about a year ago and have been looking for a good stylist since with no luck whatsoever! Fortunately, I called Tint and they fit me in for a cut and color the next day with Neal. I wanted an ombré that looked pretty natural (as natural as they can look) and Neal did a fantastic job! The blending between the blonde and brown is perfect and I have received so many compliments. The salon is also very cute, in a really nice house, and all the other clients in there appeared to be regulars (with fantastic hair) so it really seems like a solid business.
