I cannot believe I have not written a review. Maybe it is because I have been going to Paula (owner of Villa Villa Kula) pre-Yelp. She is beyond fabulous and doesn't charge an arm and a leg for her services. I believe she also rents a space for a massage therapist. Her salon is located near other cool shops including Staccato Gelato. As noted by other reviewers, she is immensely popular and doesn't often take new clients. I have to make sure to book at least two months in advance for my next appointment. They do not have a receptionist and the voicemail will direct to contact each stylist to book your appointment. My hope is she will open again when it is safe for her and the other stylists. read more

Full circle of hair artists, hair stylists, butchers, and bakers.. and back to my one true love, Paula. Went off the path, strayed, cheated, misused my hair.. I was taken back with open scissors and for that I'm grateful. She just knows my hair, how it behaves, how it needs stroking. She will do whatever I ask of her to my hair. I can now walk out of there after a well done hairdo with my head held high. She's that good. read more

I was recommended to this salon by a really nice woman with a similar hairstyle to mine. She referred me to a specific stylist (Nancy I think). I called, I texted, I went on the schedulocity app, but I never even received a courtesy response. Finally I messaged Dani. Same story. This is rude, it is unacceptable, and this is not a place I would ever get my hair cut after such nonsense. I'm from NYC, and I promise you can get an appointment at any salon you like! It may take a few weeks, but there is no salon so elite that your call is not returned after 4 or 5 messages. Really Villa Villa Kula? What are you thinking? read more

Paula is wonderful and did a great job. It was nerve wracking to go short for the first time since junior high, and I never doubted I would walk out looking great. She was highly recommended by a friend who has hair just as baby-fine and finicky as mine. It was a fun appointment, she really made sure she knew what my vision was before even getting started and I walked out thrilled to have short hair! The prices are affordable, the location is convenient and central. I loved the atmosphere in their quirky little shop. However, I have had half a year of terrible experiences with their phone line and receptionist. It started with me leaving a message that took almost two weeks to be returned. I was then told that since I was new, they couldn't get me in for two months, and she was sure I wouldn't want to wait that long (yes, I had her put me on the books anyway). I called back in November to schedule a 2nd cut, a voicemail that was never returned. I gave them one more chance and called in early December, and Paula finally returned that call herself, more than a week later, after I had made an apointment somewhere else. (That 2nd haircut also turned out fabulous - thank goodness) read more

paula jones at villa villa kula gave me, hands down, the BEST haircut and color I've ever had in my life. And her price can't be beat. And she was FAST! I was out of there in less than 2 hours. She rocks. The salon is tiny/intimate/cozy and very warm & friendly. read more

I have been going to Paula for almost 18 years. Her salon is chic, hip, eco and just plain awesome. They use chemical free hair colors. There is a small selection of product - all vera nice. In addition to hair stylist/artist you can also get a massage or hair removal. The neighborhood is pretty great with local eateries, shops and bars/pubs. I schedule my next appointment before I leave my current appointment. Paula is probably the best hairdresser anywhere and it is tuff to get in with her, so I count myself as lucky to be a client. She is fast, efficient and fun. read more

All I can say is I have been going to this place for years and they rock my world. When my hair artist went on maternity leave I cut my own hair because i was not going to let anyone else touch it but myself or my special person. I only did it because it was getting out of hand. They treat me like gold and if you want you hair to look amazing in cut and color this is the place to go. If you are looking for an unpretentious and fine place to get you hair care needs met this is your place. Call ahead to get an appointment. read more

I love Paula Jones and I love my haircut. Be forewarned that Paula is booked up about 8 weeks in advance... Well worth the wait. And the prices are excellent. read more

I'm so happy that I chose Dani to cut my long hair. It's exactly what I wanted. I showed her some pictures of past cuts that I liked, and she got it just right. read more

Villa Villa Kula - Still wet- got a haircut with Dani at Villa Kula Kula - Hair Salons Near Me - Portland, Oregon

I have been going to Dani for many months now, and have been pleasantly surprised each time. I heard about her as a short hair guru, so didn't know if we'd be a good match with my boring long hair, but she has knocked it out of the park for me each time. What's notable is her ability to translate my nebulous desires into a styling session, and her expert bayalage is top-notch. Dani is the best!! read more

I've been looking for a new stylist and I'm so, so glad I found Dani! She has listens carefully to what you want, and does a great job of making your ideas a reality! She's also a fun person to chat with, and the salon itself has a comfortable, hip vibe which is a perfect reflection of the neighborhood. It might seem like a wait to get in, but it's worth it! read more

Back to see Dani... Great as ever! Just give her some general guidelines, so not to squelch her creativity, and let her do her thing!!! She will not disappoint! read more

Paula Jones is not a hair stylist - she is an hair artist! The atmosphere of her shop is very relaxed and friendly. Paula is always warm and cheerful. She is super at finding the most flattering style for your hair. She listens closely to her customers - working with them to give them the look they desire. I can't say enough kind things about Paula. As long as she is doing hair, Paula will be the only one I'll go to for hair care. read more

Dani Myers was the absolute best! I can be so picky with my short hair and she nailed it first time with one of the best cuts I've had. Unfortunately, life events are pulling me back to Chicago before I can return for round two, but if I ever make it back to Portland, I really hope she's still cutting hair. Reasonably priced and incredibly personable. Go to her! read more

I heard about this place from Sherry S. after she read my review on Bishop's. I have to give huge props to her for pointing me in the right direction! She told me about Paula.... but Paula didn't have any openings for a haircut on short notice (I knew this would be a possibility since she IS super amazing and popular). So, I made an appt with Dani. She's FABULOUS! She sculpted my hair into a work of art. She apparently specializes in short 'dos and I found that to be true. She used the razor the whole time and that's what works best with my shorter haircuts anyways. This girl knows her stuff. She's adorable, friendly and talented! I think you have a repeat customer with me! read more

Paula Jones was the first stylist in my curly life to cut bangs into my hair. everyone else said i couldn't have them - my hair was too unpredictable. but Paula couldn't see why that was so and started cutting into my hair immediately! i'm so grateful. i love my bangs and have been for the last year +. all my haircuts are perfect - i don't even have to re-do them when i get home! and the prices are knock-down affordable - just a fraction of what i used to pay in San Francsico. special bonus? she cuts my little toddlers hair at no charge! (he loves her). now that's what i call great service! read more

Mimi has been cutting my hair since for five years. Holy cow. My hair always looks fabulous. On one occasion I made the mistake of going to another place because I was in a rush. Hasn't happened since. I come out of there feeling fabulous. She's wonderful and the place is super cute. read more

Dani is the best!!! I had not had my hair professionally cut in 20 years. I had a bad experience, and had just been keeping it trimmed on my own. It was very long, and it was time for a change. I heard good enough tales of Dani's work to leave the style up to her. I know nothing about hair, and she is an expert. I trusted her judgement, and I am so glad that I did! I ended up with a cute cut that shows off the curls that I never knew I had! It is fun and funky, but still long enough to put up for professional looks. What a makeover!!! DANI IS THE BEE'S KNEES!!!! read more

Paula has been cutting my hair for 15 years!! Holy Smokes! I didn't know I was even that old. I have strayed a few times, but not in the last 10. ;) Paula is consistent. she is talented, fun, it' obvious she loves what she does, and she doesn't dally! She's always willing to listen and give input on my crazy ideas, but she's careful in a way that keeps my hair looking AWESOME! even when going from black to platinum blonde. Villa Villa Kula is always busy, so I make sure to stay on top of it by by always scheduling my next appointment before I leave. Paula reminds me of my appointment if I need a reminder. If I'm (gasp!) late, or I forget - and schedule something else, she asks if I'm ok instead of berating me for my lack of responsibility. oops! Eilish and Mimi are super awesome as well, and it's always a good time hanging out at Villa Villa Kula. I go just for fun sometimes, for a sip of water or a cup of tea. There's always lively conversation, kids looking at books, and men are not afraid of this place either. The prices can't be beat. Go there, you will love it! read more

Paula's the best! So quick and efficient and great judgment. Makes it easy to have lots of confidence in her! Good music, very affordable, and cute neighborhood as well! read more

Dani is amazing!!! I couldnt get in with Paula so I made an appointment with Dani and I cant imagine a better haircut. She was so attentive to my needs having long, thick, coarse hair. I wanted an edgy long haircut and she knew exactly how to execute. I saw many reviews for her for short hair but she SO knows what shes doing with long hair as well. I will be back for sure. Thanks, Dani! read more

I love my haircut and color! Thanks to Dani! What a fun, kind, hip chick! I will be back. Best haircut I've had in years.

I know that us ladies can go on and on about their hair, how they wish it was this, or a little more that...and Paula Jones makes all my hair dreams come true. Sassy, smart, always listening to my new hair obsessions, Paula makes hair magic... and not just for me, but for everyone, men, women and children strut out of Villa Villa Kula with hair that looks, smells and feels fantastic. read more

Paula does the best...hair...ever. Hands down. Go there, often. If you are struggling with your Bishops cut, head over to VVK, they will hook you up, AND look you in the face in the morning. read more

I love the vibe in this salon, all the ladies are super nice and extremely talented. Mimi Price does my hair and she is amazing! I have never had a bad haircut from her, she's always spot on, and she gives you really good advice on what would look good on you. She's totally cool and up to date with all the trends too. I've had countless haircuts from her and was always very happy with my them. read more

Dani is wonderful! I was looking for a new stylist and a friend recommended Villa Villa Kula, after I read a review about Dani being great with short cuts I decided to give her a try. Not only is she a warm and wonderful person, she gives a wonderfully amazing haircut! I am very picky about who touches my hair (scarred by Grandmother owning her own salon) and I trust Dani completely. I have gone to her several times now, she really listens, is great at working with my unruly wavy hair, and isn't afraid to wield the razor. The salon is clean and attractive, I love it all. read more

Paula is so fantastic. She is fast, and doesn't charge a crap ton for the best haircut of your life! Only a couple of downsides; you have to make an appointment and keep it- she's booked, also she is often behind, given her large client base. She is worth the wait, the 5 stars is warranted. read more

I've been going to Dani since I moved to Portland, and she is a find! Finding a hairdresser when you are new in town can be scary, but she was referred to me and I have never looked back. She's great at her trade, both with cut and color, a wonderful person and makes you look and feel fabulous when you leave. Everyone at the salon are friendly and fun, and the location very convenient. Love it! read more

Paula worked her magic again. Helped me pull out and futher highlight the purple in my hair when she layered and made me a bit shaggier and put more platinium in my greying and silvery hair. So glad I can do this in Portland. read more

I've been getting my hair cut by Mimi for years! So has my mom and so has a few of her friends. She always gets it right. She's cut my hair in a variety of ways (long, pixie cut, straight across bangs, no bangs, etc) and it's always been perfect. She's also very punctual. She's so much fun to talk to and is very natural while working. read more

I went to Dani for a short women's cut, and she did an excellent job! I'm sure other women can attest to the usual problems of finding a stylist that "gets it," but look no further! I would definitely go back in a heartbeat. read more

This salon was recommended to me by a co-worker and man am I glad I booked an appointment. Paula was not available and I needed in right away due to an absolutely horrible color and cut from my previous person. I was able to get in and my goodness, Dani NAILED IT!!!! I wanted a razor cut and she did it PERFECTLY!!! She got the color exactly like I wanted and the cut as well. So impressed. I will not be going anywhere else than Villa Villa Kula and Dani from now on!! Highly recommend!!!! A+++++++ read more

I've found my hair artist! I not only love Dani's artfully crafted haircuts, but I love her too! She is patient with my never-bending need for symmetry, perfection and fun all in one haircut. I highly recommend her and simply love sitting in her chair knowing I'll walk away with both a great haircut and happiness from her sparkling presence. She's doing a great service here in PDX! read more

Paula has been my stylist for twenty years. We've been through boyfriends, marriage and babies together not to mention about a dozen styles and hair colors. She is passionate about her skills and talent. I always love my hair and have people cross streets to ask me who my stylist is. I feel honored to be her client and lucky she's my stylist. She's truly an artist! read more

I love me some Mimi. I've been going to her for the last three years...she's a great listener... gets what you want and has an amazing way of transforming your hair. The best compliment I got was when I was in NY and a hair stylist asked who did my hair. read more

Two friends of mine recommended Mimi Price at Villa Villa Kula. I never want anyone else to cut my hair now - she is incredible. My most recent cut has me smiling every time I look in the mirror. I think that's pretty amazing. Super affordable, great people... I'm gushing because it's gush-worthy. Only fantastic things to say about this place. read more

I've been going to Mimi for nearly 10 years and recommend her highly. She's great with wavy/curly hair (which is a hard talent to find) and has always been candid when I've come in asking for a cut or color that will work out poorly on me. Also, I kept my hair very short for several years and can report that she's great at masculine and androgynous cuts as well. Prices are fair for the quality and consistency of her work. Have referred several friends to VVK in the past and they've all come away happy. read more

I needed a new stylist ASAP so I just picked this salon based on the reviews here on Yelp. I was able to get an appointment with Dani in the time frame I needed. The salon decor was fun and relaxing but more inportantly Dani was fantastic! I am pleased with the result and feel completely comfortable with her decisions regarding my hair and her ability to carry them out. I will be going back and will be recommending this salon to my friends. read more
