What a cool place with tons of history! Decided to stop here to stretch our legs and walked into the restaurant. We met Brenda who warmly welcomed us and gave us an awesome tour of the grounds while we waited for Chef Woody to make our burgers. This is a restaurant with a full bar, next to a general store (that is sadly closed currently due to staffing issues), with two bedroom suites available for booking. They book for events and the grounds outside looks perfect for a wedding. I can vouch for our burgers being the best thing I'd eaten eaten all day and only regret we didn't get to visit again on our way home. The food was incredible, the staff was friendly and the chef, Jason came out and talked with such excitement about the things the newest owners are doing and the things to come you could not help but being excited to return. Very disappointed in this place. Don't believe the website or Yelp information. The phone number answers with a "this number is no longer in service" recording. We arrived this evening and was pleased to see a few cars in the parking lot, but the doors were locked. I saw a woman in the bar and she came to the door apologizing that they were only open for a private party. She said the restaurant has been closed since June. read more

Driving in between Roswell and Ruidoso we stopped at the Silver Dollar, walking in we were quite surprised at the elegant western setting. The building is drenched in intriguing history that the staff was happy to share. Very cool atmosphere. Tables were clothed and set in a traditional way, with fine glasses and plates and silverware. We stopped in for Sunday breakfast, and while there wasn't a large menu of choices, the choices available were traditional New Mexican breakfast choices. I chose the Silver dollar Omelette, which had three eggs, Steak, and green chili and cheese. It also came with Ranch style potatoes. The potatoes were perfectly fried to a crispy golden bite sized spud, just how I like them. The Omlette was great, the steak came from the ranch of the business owner, so it's local beef. That's big for me. The green chili was roasted and included in mixed with the cheese and other misc. peppers. I would have preferred it served smothered in a green chili sauce, or salsa, but that's just a personal preference that I enjoy with typical New Mexican breakfasts. I had some samples of the biscuits and gravy plate, and pancakes. It's easy to see that their entire menu is made with fresh ingredients and doesn't rely on preservatives like you may expect for a restaurant so far from a major town. Prices are very fair for breakfast and the quality of food far surpasses the point of justification, Which is so rare in the post Covid environment. read more

Been wanting to stop here for years, and finally did early one day. While the place looked nice, I was surprised to see that I was the only customer there. It did not take me long to figure out why. The server was hanging out at the host and playing on her phone when I got there and seem annoyed that I was there to eat. I ordered a soda and while I was waiting for that, I got to notice that the paper tablecloth for where I was sitting was quite dirty from the night before- it was early and dead enough that I was pretty sure that I was the only customer so far. A carafe of water was put on the table, however the carafe was dirty on the inside. As I was sitting there and looking at the limited menu figuring on what I would get, I got to hear cans open in the kitchen. To me, and a restaurant this nice, canned soda is extremely poor. It was brought out in a glass with ice, not even a full can's worth- which then had me wondering if I got a refill, would I have to pay again for another soda and would it be starting to go flat because it's going to be half an open can? The place screamed former glory, trying to hold on, while skimping on basics. I feel like this place could be vastly improved with very little effort, and I would love to go back at some point and actually try the food, but my initial impression was how many small things are missed in the front of house, and some of the cost savings that I witnessed/heard, I did not expect the kitchen to be clean. read more

I can't say anything about the food as I 've never eaten here. We tried to buy a gift certificate for family that lives near. They promised to send it to our family by their anniversary date, but it never arrived. We tried to contact the restaurant several times & left voice mails, which were never returned. One day we started calling at 11AM when they opened & no one would answer. We called like 38 times and they finally took their phone off the hook. Lovely setting and a great waitress. The appetizer was great (green chile with hominy) We ordered the special which was a 12 Oz sirloin and was supposed to be medium rare. We received I suppose was 2 6 Oz pieces of meat cooked like shoe leather. The manager did take that off of our bill, but that was fine, we couldn't eat eat it. We are at our condo in Ruidoso and decided to drive to Tinnie New Mexico for dinner. The drive was very nice and once we got there we walked around and looked in the cute little store just doing the tourist thing then went to dinner. My husband had the Posole to start with and I had a wonderful salad. "Both Were fantastic" We both had chicken fried steak best I've ever had!! Tinnie Silver Dollar is a well known steak house out in the middle of the hills in New Mexico. West of Lubbock, Texas by about two hundred miles, is little hidden gem. Why do I give a Texas reference, is that I have heard some folks still believe that New Mexico is still part of Mexico, funny, yes I know, but true! Over time it has turned into a well known steak house restaurant! Tinnie has been here since the 1870's, starting out as a post office and general store! It was purchased by Robert O Anderson, an oil man who lived in the valley. He did not want to drive all the way to Roswell or Ruidoso for a good steak meal. To start with the salad bar is always a big plus, it's not huge but the quality is top notch. My go to choice here is the filet mignon medium rare with a baked potato. They age the steaks and they will melt in your mouth! The service here has always been very good! I do recommend that you call ahead of time and get reservations! read more

I'm a steak connoisseur, so when they told me my steak would be cooked over mesquite I was intrigued. It was about 9:30 that night and we were their last customers, so the manger came and grabbed us and took us to the kitchen and showed us exactly how my steak was being cooked. They truly have an oversized grill in the kitchen that runs of mesquite wood, this is unheard of. Most places have some grill in their kitchen that runs of gas or propane but not this place, only fresh mesquite and you can tell when you take that first bite. I always eat my steak rare and most places overcooked my rare steak, tinnies cooked my steak to perfection. This place has an awesome atmosphere and is well worth the drive from ruidoso. I live in Roswell and will be making a 45min drive to tinnies in the future, it's that good. The staff was awesome and made you feel wanted. And if you've ever tried tinnies in the past you need to give it another chance it was formerly owned by the cattle baron corporation but has since changed owners and is putting out great food and service. And their chef comes from le cordon bleu which is unheard of for a rural nm area. Any negative reviews you see for this place comes from the previous owners so do yourself a favor and try tinnies. read more

Ate here after a long drive from Abilene thinking a steakhouse would be wonderful. Ordered a filet mignon and green beans. Steak was tough and flavorless. My green beans were FROZEN, yes, you read that. FROZEN. The owner gave me another drink to compensate. Nice and friendly, but the food just isn't up to par, especially for $35 per plate of steak. My daughter's hamburger was better than my steak. Green beans re-cooked and were hot but lacking in flavor, no seasonings. I've eaten better steaks at Texas Roadhouse, and my husbands own recipe. Haven't eaten here in many years and we were planning in being in the area so thought to try it again. The steak was outstanding, so was the baked potato and pretty much everything was perfect. The restaurant had a full house so were smart to make a reservation a few days before. The ambiance was relaxed and not stuffy and the owner walked around and even helped out the wait staff. An amazing place. We were there on a Friday night and the only people there when we arrived -- which is a real shame. The experience was wonderful, starting with the gorgeous building, the wood built bar, the thick walls, multiple stained glass windows and unique fireplace. The decor only enhanced the delicious food. The posole and elk tips and were absolutely delectable. The servers were just the right amount of warm and friendly. We are from out of state, it will be difficult to come back, but we will tell anyone we know traveling through this part of New Mexico that they should check this place out. I tried to book an event here since my family is from the area. I had no problem contacting them and receiving information about reserving the venue. However, I was told I would receive information on catering within 24 hours. I did not receive it. I was contacted by the venue again and was told once more that catering would send information. I still received nothing. It seems there is either a lack of communication between the venue and caterer, or they simply didn't feel our event was large enough to bother. read more

We have been to Tinnie's twice now since it reopened in 2019. Once for a quiet anniversary dinner and one for Sunday brunch with a crew of 20. We reached in age from 1 year old to 94 years old. Both times the service and the food were fantastic! The atmosphere is wonderful and they have some really nice signed Peter and Michael Hurd prints. If it's a nice day the patio is wonderful and it's easy to take kids if you're on the patio because they can run out in the lawn behind the restaurant. We went here many years ago and remember this place to be pretty good. Today we went for their Sunday Buffet. The meat selections, some kind of rolled up chicken and roasted pork were very dry. The pasta was not very hot. The chile chicken soup was excellent. Salad was good and of course the desserts were good. The restaurant was clean. The service was really bad. We have family about 25 miles from here so we have passed by many times but have never stopped. This weekend my wife and I decided to go ahead and stop, and we are EXTREMELY glad we did. I had the filet and it was THE BEST steak I have ever had. It was slightly crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked (medium rare) in the center. The chef and GM, Jim, came around asking how everything tasted and then offered to take my family on a personal tour of the restaurant. We walked around the property and saw the two suites (which are incredibly nice and under priced), the kitchen (including the mesquite wood grill), and the amazing bar (that was owned by Al Capone). If you are visiting anywhere near here (within an hour) this is a must eat place. There is some really neat antiques and tons of history here. This is great! When we lived in Roswell in the 60's, we used to stop on our way back from Ruidoso to spend our winnings or drown our sorrows. The best steaks, and the best bar for 100's of miles in any direction. Glad to know it's still going strong. read more
