Wonderful family place that we stumbled upon. Saw lots of cars so we figured that was a good sign. Greeted by staff and guests alike with friendly hellos. Enrique was attentive and cordial, as were the other staff. Food selection was great and what we ordered was very tasty. Excellent for the price, which was lower than we normally encounter and plenty of food. Cute interior and decor and plenty of Smokey Bear sprinkled about (with a few tigers ????). My only negative comment, and only made in hopes it can change for them to keep them being a great place, is to clean the air vents on the walls and ceiling, address the lightbulbs that are out, and possibly change out the drip ceilings. These things take away from the overall ambiance. I'd love to see them continue for years. Definitely recommend!

Lunch - A man wearing glasses and a blue shirt is sitting at a restaurant table with a bowl of salad. The restaurant has wood-paneled walls and framed pictures.

Has carpet on the floor and is very clean! Chips and salsa is very good, the chips are fresh!! If you driving along 380 in New Mexico stop in. This is a locals favorite

Chose this breakfast stop based on recent reviews! Lovely people and cute cafe. - Inside Smokey Bear Restaurant, customers are seated at wooden tables, and a staff member is working behind the counter. The decor features wood-paneled walls and framed pictures.

Traveling thru New Mexico on nice spring day. Small town, lunch time & hungry - what a combination. This is how you eat small. All 12 of us enter a busy restaurant and get seated within minutes. We weren't the only large group with the same idea. So from the start these guys have got it together. Our server arrived promptly with menus and took drink orders. Drinks arrived and orders were taken. Our food was at the table within 15 mins. Hand Breaded Chicken Fried Steak with fries & cole slaw and steak fingers with tater tots. The Chicken Fried Steak was nicely fried without the overdone edges on the ends. The Steak Fingers were also hand battered and nicely fried. The Gravy was well spiced went well with the lunches. The service was equally outstanding. There was someone by our table frequently checking for needs and refilling drinks. As busy as it was this was no small feat! A great stop, great food and great service - it doesn't get much better than this. If you're in the area I highly recommend a stop here!

If you're making the drive between Santa Fe and Roswell, this is realistically the only stop--and…read morehonestly, it's a pretty solid one. Penny's has that classic roadside diner charm, complete with the shiny silver exterior and that satisfying old-school diner door. It leans into nostalgia in the best way, like you accidentally pulled into a time capsule somewhere along a desert highway. Inside was clean and well-kept, and the staff were attentive and friendly without being over the top--exactly what you want when you're road-weary and hungry. Food-wise, the burger hit the spot and the tots were crispy (always a win). Simple, classic diner food done right. A couple of knocks: the bathroom was just okay, nothing terrible but not great either. And the soda... not good. It had a strange flavor, almost like the lines hadn't been changed in a while--definitely stick with water or something bottled. Overall, it's not a destination restaurant, but for where it's at, it absolutely delivers. A reliable, nostalgic pit stop that does the job well. Worth the stop? Yes. Just skip the soda.

When you see the lights are on, it's a relief. From what I understand, they're able to stay open 24 hours because of a contract with Big Rail, which keeps train crews fed and honestly, the rest of us travelers benefit too. I love that the choo-choos take care of their people while providing a service to anyone passing through. It's a cozy, welcoming stop when you need it most. The kind of place that makes a long drive feel less lonely. In the instance I'm in those parts of New Mexico or Colorado, Penny's is my go-to. Five stars!

The businesses all put their heads together to create a magical place where there are everything from sundry stores to acute log cabin church, to strip malls that are decorated in a log cabin style, feeling with rustic signage, Christmas lights everywhere and they even adorn the driving path with lit snow snowflakes. One thing that made me laugh was there is a hardware store with 101 Dalmatians decorating it out front! So back to big daddy's, you walk in and it is a wonderful local feel to this place, rustic design, super friendly staff, the foods brought out quickly, and it was hot and fresh a huge menu of items to choose from!! There is plenty of parking and lots of space to sit, including a bar area. We ordered the fried pickles - they were outstanding! I had the triple chicken tacos soft and hard shell they were homemade tortillas and shells and just delicious! The French dip was also ordered to our table and was huge order with onion rings. Soooo tasty! 5 stars!
