Took my girlfriend here for the first time when she was visiting Watertown and I was really impressed with the quality and quantity of the food. Weather was beautiful outside and the restaurant geared towards our door seating, it was booked. The wait for a table seat was about 40mins, so we went for the bar seat which had no wait time. The bartender that took our order was super friendly and gave us a lot of insight on the portion size and what's a good pick for a first timer. The only down side was the wait time for the food. It took a while longer than an average restaurant, but the taste and quality was well worth the wait. The portions are also huge. We were going to get the French toast meal, but after seeing portion sizes, requested just a single piece which ended up being more than enough. If you're visiting Sacketts Harbor, definitely visit this place, especially since it's a seasonal restaurant. read more

This was my first time here and it was amazing! The waiter knew the drink and food menu inside and out. We sat on the patio...and I may have fed a fat chipmunk a lot of french fries ‍ We started with some Strawberry Muddles. They were perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the strawberries and tartness of the ginger beer. I ordered the Ahi Tuna tacos - but was torn between that and the soft shell crab sandwich. The waiter told me both were amazing but get the tacos first. Perfectly-barely cooked rare tuna (and it tasted FRESH) with a spicy and topped with Asian cabbage and a swirl of guacamole. Rude hostess, excessive wait times, severely understaffed, and loud environment. My husband and I decided to drive a half hour for breakfast because we heard great things. When we walked in, there was nobody around greeting customers, so we waited a few minutes before we walked around to find a "hostess". She said it would be a 45 minute wait - not a big deal, it was a Sunday morning around the time that church was finishing services, however, we saw at least 6 tables open just on the first floor, as well as the entire patio. We decided to go ahead and wait since we heard it was a great place, but when we went back in 40 minutes later, she told us it would be another 30 minutes. She proceeded to answer the phone without asking us if the wait was okay or apologize for the excessive time. When we walked out, there was only one more couple waiting to be seated. Why such a long wait? Why so many tables open? - obviously they have a severe staffing issue. We will definitely not be going back. read more

I don't think I'm going to order anything else from TPG for breakfast ever again. Last note - if you frequent TPG for any other time other than breakfast, you MUST try the spinach artichoke dip. Closer to 3 1/2 stars--I rounded up to four stars. The food here is top-notch. When we lived in the Watertown/Fort Drum area before (7 years ago) we came to this restaurant 2 or 3 times, and we just returned for a visit yesterday. What I love: The food. This is an area that has an abundance of italian food and sandwich type restaurants. I can't count how many restaurants offer chicken parm sandwiches, ruebens, roast beef, etc... Tin Pan Galley has sandwiches for lunch, but they include really unique ingredients like grilled portobello, gouda, grilled apples, honey mustard, herb mayo, etc. These are excellent and flavorful sandwiches. Furthermore, they have a garden seating area complete with a fountain and trees for shade. It's a really nice atmosphere. Where I have to take some points away from Tin Pan Galley is with the service. Years ago, we went in for breakfast and the place was just clearing out from a rush. We were summarily seated and never acknowledged again. I actually flagged someone down and asked if we could get some service. The person rudely said that they would find our server. No one ever showed up, and we left. I can forgive a restaurant for one day of bad service. Yesterday, our server wasn't BAD so much as absent a lot of the time. It was only irritating because there were about five servers and a hostess on duty who also ignored us. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy, and all those servers were just sort of standing to the side doing nothing. I flagged the hostess down and requested she ask our server for refills. I've worked in restaurants, and everywhere I've worked it was common knowledge that we were to keep an eye on EVERYONE's table. I think this staff needs a bit more training or supervision. Anyone who works in a restaurant in Sackett's Harbor is lucky to be working there. The restaurants are quality, and the area is a huge draw for people from all around. They should all deserve to work there and deserve to receive the extra tips from working in Sacketts. read more

I've definitely had better. My mom and I came here for her birthday dinner with a couple of family friends. We had been warned that the service and food delivery is a little slow. That was a little bit of an understatement. It took our server 25 minutes to even come over to our table to take our wine order. It then took another 30 minutes to actually get her to come back with the bottle....which was the wrong bottle. Fast forward another 20 minutes and she comes back with the correct bottle of wine and to take our food order. I was already exhausted at this point. The food took over an hour to get to our table. It was beautifully presented, but cold. We would have walked out at this point if there was anywhere else decent in the town to dine at. But alas, Sackets Harbor is not, nor will ever be, the culinary capital of the world. The only saving grace this restaurant has is it's atmosphere. The outside dining area is beautiful with grape leaves climbing up the walls of the early 19th century building. There was also a hoppin dance floor and busy bar. Most of the people populating these areas were wasted as they probably had to wait 2 hours even for their appetizers to arrive. I don't mean to sound like a snob, but this place would never survive in a big city. The food is there, but the logistics and soul of the place is....not. Perhaps this is worth a shot if you go earlier in the dinner shift and have lots of time. Sorry New York. read more

This is a nice little Gem in Sackets Harbor. The food is fresh and full of flavor and the service from all waitstaff is professional. During the summer, I'd recommend sitting outside because their garden area will make it feel like you are in a quaint, European town. There is live music, which suits the restaurant and creates a pleasant atmosphere. I can't even give specifics on what to order because everything is so good!! This is a very pleasant place with decent food. The prices are reasonable. Of the few sandwich options I've tried, I can't say anything's been exceptional. The brioche is little too eggy for my taste, and it's surprising to see a place like this serving factory frozen fries rather than frying potatoes in-house, but the burgers (especially the horseradish slaw burger, not on the regular menu) are OK and I enjoyed the soft-shell crab on a recent visit. The panko-crusted goat cheese with tomato oil was more memorable, and it looks like the small plates are more creative than the mains. The patio steals the show, though; that's what makes this a destination in Sackets Harbor. read more

(A delicious spin on the classic benedict, if one is in the mood for capi, prov, greens, and a variation of the classic hollandaise.) The romano & prov cream sauce was phenomenally tasty and rich. As glowing as my five star review last fall, this breakfast was the polar opposite from the service to the food. I had a salmon asparagus omelet that simply filled to the gills with a dill yogurt spread that didn't work on any level. Known for their stuffed French toast, I was excited to try it. Turned out, I was more excited to stop eating it after a couple of bites. The soft maple cream turned out to be a 1/4 scoop of butter. The fruit was very fresh but the cream filling was bland and too rich to eat. Disappointed on a new level for this place. I would comment on the device but we didn't get much. No refills on drinks and wrong drink orders. I wish "busy" was the excuse but thereby weren't many patrons there. Not going to return. read more

Tin Pan Galley - if you find yourself in upstate NY (by which I mean way upstate, near the Canadian border, at Fort Drum, or on the Northeast side of Lake Ontario), your trip is not complete without a stop at Tin Pan. The town of Sackett's Harbor is quaint, and nice in its own right. A historic battlefield, on the lake, and full of shops, antique stores, and restaurants. However, look around on a weekend morning, and you'll see a line in one place - Tin Pan. It goes until the afternoon, and then it still has people eating there at night. To be fair, the restaurant is not that big - in the winter, you've only got a few tables inside. Spring, summer, and fall dining are the best, on the outside patio. The breakfasts there are incredible. I can't decide what is better - the gourmet omelettes or the stuffed french toast (though for good stuffed french toast also try Zaftig's in Boston). Prices are extremely reasonable, and the service and atmosphere nice. I was also there for a wedding reception, and found the catered food also to be superb. Make the time, if in Sackett's, or nearby. You won't regret it. read more

(I.e., wanted reg. bacon not Canadian, told they don't have any, but my partner was not when he ordered first w/ reg bacon, and I wanted a side of special bread but was told no computer key to order that & so I had her to go check, then was told they are all out of both special breads even though 2 entrees listed the bread and no mention of anything being "out" when we began ordering at 10 am ). I don't remember what I ate here. All I remember was that it was good. It is located in the "down town" which is literally one block long (not even). My brother is stationed in Ft. Drum (well, he's in Iraq now but he'll go back there once he comes back in Nov) and when I went to visit him up there, I do mean UP state New York, he couldn't wait to take me to this restaurant. I don't think they take reservations, you just walk up to the front of the line at the gate of the patio and give them your name. They will give you an hour wait. You then can go to the other end of the down town (about 3 stores down) and grab yourself some coffee. For some reason, everyone sorta "dress up" to come here (even sat/sun mornings.) Expect to see a lot of sundresses in bright colors and "boating" clothes b/c a lot of rich boating people suppose to hang about. I wore jeans. I think I was the only one. But it's OK b/c I had a cute shirt on and b/c I'm cute. j/k I had both French toast and Omelet (meaning stole food from my brother's plate) and both were very good. But I'm not quite sure if it was good in comparison to other restaurants nearby (ummm what restaurants?) or b/c of the wait, or b/c of the anticipation but it was good. Unlike the post below, I'll probably go back next time I'm up in Sackets Harbor. Never went inside but the patio is so pretty. First day, I sat directly under the sun so be advised. read more

We got here for dinner around 545 saying we were here to have a leisurely night listening to music and enjoying food we had ordered a few drinks and an appetizer and around 6:20 our server came and said we had to be gone by 7 because they had a reservation at 730... I've been in the industry 10 years and never had to tell a table to leave she said well you should understand we've made reservations we can't just make money off one table for sitting there... They have outdoor seating when it's nicer but we sat upstairs and inside; had a bit of a wait but it was worth it. Great breakfast place!!! You pay for the quality Of the food.. Any by no means is it small portions like so many other "ritzy fancy" restaurants. My husband usually goes for the savory items and I stick with the sweet.. It's a perfect combination for the both of us!! We've been multiple times, tough it is a little disappointing it's a seasonal restaurant. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and they're very fast paced. If you get there before 9-9:30, you won't have to wait for a seat! They don't take breakfast reservations, but it's worth waking up early :) read more

Overpriced and overhyped. I went there on the last weekend of the year for the first time with a group of friends. I tried the stuffed french toast which came highly recommended. Honestly it was chewy and mediocre at best. There was nothing phenomenal or that stood out to me besides the design of the restaurant and the location. We waited 30 minutes to even get water, after we ordered drinks and appetizers we didn't see our waiter for another hour and 10 minutes. And when we did see her it was because we went to the bar to check on our drink order. Turns out the order was never even put into the bar. Then an hour and 30 minutes later we got appetizers. 30 minutes after we saw our waiter again and she told us the kitchen was closed, so we never got to eat dinner. After talking to the manger all that was taken off the bill was one appetizer. On this visit to TPG, we went for brunch on a Sunday. It took about 30-45 minutes to get a table; however, we waited well over an hour for our food. So, it is unfortunate that I have to, again, note the slow service. My bestie had the Breakfast Wrap, which he devoured and said was delicious. My mom had the special, which essentially was the Crab Cake Benedict with lobster. I had the Mediterranean Omelette, which seemed to have a shrimp, artichoke heart, roasted grape tomato, spinach, basil, and feta in every single bite. The home fries are fairly unremarkable - sort of flavorless. The sourdough doesn't compare to the real deal in SF but it could compete on the east coast. Overall, the food was beautifully plated, expertly cooked, and very yummy - indicative of the level of quality and satisfaction that I've come to expect from TPG dinners. I still love the ambiance; and, our waiter was fantastic - friendly and attentive. For all three meals, coffee, and a total of four cocktails, our bill was only slightly over $80, which isn't bad compared to the dinner prices. Don't get me wrong, I will always come back to TPG for my annual summer fancy vacation meal - but it wouldn't hurt if they worked to improve their seating and serving timing. read more

The patio is admittedly gorgeous (even though they have no water view), but the customer service left such a bad taste in my mouth (mainly talking about the hosts) which is why I'm bringing my review down to 3 stars. This is "the" go-to restaurant for nice occasions, holiday brunches, out of town guests, etc and because of this the service (by the hosts) leaves something to be desired. The servers and bartenders I have never had issues with, but the hosts have this attitude as though they're working in an A-List NYC restaurant -- and I can say from experience I have been treated WAY better in NYC restaurants than I ever have here. Not only that, but the wait for brunch is outrageous!! Yes the brunch is good, but the Brewery (which has a patio on the water) and Goodfellos also serve great brunch and you won't have to wait hours long to eat there! I've tried Tin Pan several times since moving to the village (once for brunch, once for dinner, and once in the evening just to grab drinks) and going just for drinks was the best experience I've had thus far -- I think because zero hosts were involved. The one and only time I've been to brunch there was some miscommunication between hosts, and the host that took over told me (very smugly) when I asked how much longer the wait would be, that I hadn't put my name down and the wait was now nearing 2 hours. When in fact I HAD put my name down with the previous host, and had already been waiting 40 minutes past the time they told me my party would be seated (party of 3 -- nothing crazy). Annoying. Second time trying it out was for my now husband and I's anniversary. It happened to be chilly and windy that day, so the patio was open but no one wanted to be seated outdoors. We were dressed nice and assumed we wouldn't have to ask for indoor seating since literally no one was out there, but the host attempted to still seat us outside!! In the shade, when it was chilly, and they were having to strategically place salt and pepper shakers on the table cloths to keep them from blowing away. Who would want to sit there?! Then when we asked to be seated inside, she huffed as if we were asking too much. I feel that Tin Pan is a place everyone should try, just to say you've tried it. I can't deny that the food IS good, but honestly the customer service I've had 2 out of the 3 times I've been there is the only thing I end up remembering. My advice: I suggest getting food elsewhere and then coming back for the live music and cocktails in the evenings. We had a great time then, and that is most likely the only way we will be returning. read more

I got here too late for breakfast but right in time for lunch. I sat at the bar since I was by myself traveling for work. Probably better anyways since there was a massive line waiting for a table. This place had the most stunning patio for summer outside dining. Tons of shade, foliage and plant life was booming with lots of colors and just a great atmosphere out in the open. I had the cubano sandwhich. I love a good cuban and this one was awesome. Pork was nice and sweet, lots of cheese and ham was really good too. Tried a few local beers on tap and the waitress kept up a good conversation and was very nice. I wish I had got here in time for breakfast since that is why I had taken the journey to sackets harbor (but got lost) and ended up getting there right as breakfast was ending. This was an overall fantastic meal and prepper me for a few hours of beer drinking at the nearby brewery and Hops Spot. Great little town with lots of traffic and everybody having a good time enjoying the outdoors. The breakfast is good enough where I'm fairly certain I'm going back this morning for two days in a row. I had the huevos racheros which was excellent. Some sour cream or avocado would have put it over the top. But that's not the standout here. My girlfriend had the stuffed french toast. Wow. It was pretty rich but it was some of the most delicious french toast I think I've ever had. Not overly sweet. But don't get it twisted - it's about as sweet as breakfasts come. Not to mention, it was a beautiful day and the patio they have is really nice. Even though it's a really large patio, the way it's set up gives it an intimate feel.
