Went with a group of 7 people on a Thursday evening. We were seated immediately. Three of us ordered the lobster pasta Thursday special and we all said it was good. There are pieces of green, yellow, and red pepper in the sauce which gives the sauce a fairly heavy pepper flavor. I like bell peppers so it made the dish for me but if you are not a bell pepper fan this probably isn't the choice for you. I also ordered the bisque. I will say that the flavor of the "broth" could have been a bit creamier but in terms of actual meat in the soup I have never had any bisque that has come even close to the amount they put in. I would order the bisque again! Several people got the 2 piece fish and said it was outstanding. I have been coming here since I can remember, I grew up in canton and my family and I would often visit for dine in and take out. After moving out of canton many years ago, I recently moved back closer and decided to try my childhood favorite again, I don't know if I went on a bad night or if this is the new standard but the fish was BEYOND greasy, so much that the breading was mush, it lacked in presentation and flavor and for the outrageous price for two pieces of fish and a side I would expect more. I have loved this place for years! My parents started bringing me here years ago. It's been a favorite of mine. Great fish! I used to get the fried fish, which is excellent but as I've gotten older, I try to eat healthier. So now I get the broiled seafood platter. It tastes great. Apparently April 25th the day after my birthday they weren't honoring their Coney special at least not for me I ordered 12 counties Nate took my order he comes back and tells me that they only have sauce for two now this was 12:15 okay they just opened up at 11:00 or 10:00 ...I know they hadn't sold that many coneys...I asked Nate how long will it be before she makes some more coney sauce... he states she's not making any today... okay so 3 coneys a@11.99 are you serious!!!! Have been coming here for 30 years.. the food is still good on most occasions (depending on the night), but the service has steadily declined as of late...Tonight I came in on a Friday night at around 8:00 Pm with my family. All of the waitresses including the boss were sitting at one of the dining tables drinking pop and folding silverware, not paying any attention to the few guests that were in there. Through the course of the meal, I had to ask for a glass of water for my one year old, my wife had to ask for hush puppies (that have always come with the meal), and my glass of beer sat empty throughout my entire meal...It felt like we were inconveniencing every employee in the place because they were too intent on folding silverware and sending people home...I want to keep loving this place, but with service like this, I cannot do it anymore.. read more

Venice Beach? Oh no my friend, you're in the tropical restaurant known as Tim's Tavern. Established in 1957, this oasis in a box will brighten anyone's day from the moment you walk in the door. The main dining area features painted wall murals that reflect a realistic beach like environment. The glass block privacy windows helped shield my young eyes from the dismal world that is Canton while providing just the right amount of light. In fact, I had to rub my eyes twice to make sure I was still in Canton, luckily the Keno TV screen hanging in the sky above the beach brought me back to reality. After scanning the room for a few minutes it was clear that we were the youngest people in the room (by 30 years). I was alarmed at first, but then I reminded myself that I love the friendly banter of the elderly. Shortly after we sat down our waitress appeared with a big smile on her face and a perkiness to her chest. We were inquisitive about the lunch specials and she was very accommodating to our inquiries; it was like a match made in heaven! While waiting for our food to be served we enjoyed the witty writings of the publication "The Coffee News". Once our food arrived I was quick to notice the Mount Vesuvius portion of mashed potatoes on my plate. Simply spectacular! My two piece battered fish featured a beautiful golden-brown hue like that of a thoroughbred horse who just won the Belmont Stakes. As my mouth watered in anticipation and my eyes swelled up with joy, I immersed that flaky golden fish into the chilled tartar sauce and placed the fork into my mouth as a vortex of favor engulfed my taste buds sending them into a state of shock, and then bliss. Tim, you have done it once again! My fellow colleagues had a different experience than I did, even though we were sitting at the same table together. I can not... no... This place was pretty much subpar at best and I'm only giving two stars because they do have great hush puppies to bad that is the only thing that was good that I had. To start off ordered the shrimp and crabmeat dip for a appetizer when it came out it was ice cold they forgot to microwave it and scooped what we had on our places and said they would bring a new one out. They just went back and zapped it and brought out the same one which made me a little a rig because they just straight up lied. For lunch ordered the crab cake Blt which was not good at all. The bun was way to big for this sandwich and the the sandwich basically had no taste at all pretty much a bland probably pre packaged crab cake served on a bun with a slice of bacon. I also ordered a side of Mac and Cheese it looked and tasted like something from a banquet frozen dinner so save your money. The only thing that I liked on the menu was the hush puppies I gotta give them credit on that they where awesome. Overall I was happy with my visit here mainly because the food that I had was mediocre and the staff messed up and didn't want to take responsibility or even offer to make things right. While working in the area, I treated a man to dinner who had contributed to my success. I was prepared for a fancier restaurant but he chose Tim's Tavern. He ordered a fish sandwich and I had a burger. Tims's is active, busy, noisy and fun. I was sad to learn that Tim, himself, died earlier this year, the sad end of a truly well-liked Canton citizen. I love the greasy fried fish that this place serves up. My parents have been coming here for many years.....they talk about the days when their fish was served on paper plates. In the past 30+ years it has become more and more popular with Canton folks. For a place that claims is "famous for fish", the fish I had was very subpar. My girlfriend and I arrived and found the decor to be odd to say the least. One wall had a giant childish murals of bumper cars and clowns while every other wall looks like a dated sports bar. The service was ok, I found it weird that I had to seat myself but other than that I had no complaints. Our food arrived pretty quickly which was great, but the fish the we both ordered was very bland and tasteless. It almost seemed like it had no seasoning on it whatsoever, also my fried fish seemed very dry, almost like it had been under a heat lamp. Some of my favorite items are firecracker shrimp, shrimp tacos, two piece fish dinner, onion rings, Cole slaw, hush puppies, tavern fries, and steak sandwich which is an actual steak cut up in chunks. Their soups are also to die for- shrimp lobster bisque and clam chowder. It's hard to choose between the two and I have never tasted better of either at any other restaurants, I even had the lobster bisque at Ruth's Chris steakhouse & wished I had Tim's soup! I have gotten food from here plenty of times in the past 6+ years or so and it's always consistent. Carry out was quick- 15 minutes. And the inside was packed when I picked it up. Tim's is as good as ever. Definitely the spot in canton for yummy bar food and good quality fried seafood. A lot of the servers have been there for years & are quick & attentive. Yes they have tweeted the menu a bit and prices are higher but with labor costs going up that's true everywhere I was very happy with the 3 meals we had. The chowder was great. Have been to this place many times but more often as a when I was younger. Decided to come back on Sunday evening for dinner and it was awful. Service was bad, meals were not delivered together because the cook made a mistake, one of my sides was served cold and the other was forgotten, the wrap looked like they had wrapped a tortilla around a wedge of iceburg lettuce, the fish was nowhere to be found. I grew up in Canton so we had Tim's fish often on Friday nights for a treat "back in the 50's and 60's". Always enjoyed it. Over the years, the quality fell off for one reason or another so when I heard recently that the "original recipe" was back, I couldn't wait to try, as I hadn't been there in over 20 years. We went on Wednesday, senior citizen discount, and both ordered the two piece fish meal with onion rings, coleslaw, and green beans. Got a side of the hushpuppies as well. Now when I compare fish dinners, my #1 standard is Mike's Place in Kent, about 25 miles north of Canton. With Tim's, the portions were a bit smaller, but flavor was good. The server was excellent and very personable. The onion rings were very large and plentiful. The coleslaw had very little flavor and zero heat. The green beans were a bit less than average. To be fair, this meal is less expensive than Mike's Place, but for fish, I'll take Mike's any day. The hushpuppies were not to my taste. read more

My friends and I from out of town visiting the Hall of Fame wanted something close after a drive and 18 holes of golf. We were looking for a great meal with large portions at a great price. Tim's was right on the mark. There were 7 of us and the service was fast and right on point. It was a Saturday night, several got the Fish Fry all you can eat, others got other seafood specials one or two got burgers. All left very satisfied. Went there today with a friend that had never been there before. I bragged up how big the fish was,the last time i was there,10 years ago. We ordered fish sandwiches for $6 each. When they arrived,My fish barely covered half of the bun! When I complained, I was told All of the fish was weighed out to 4 oz! It was about a fishstick and a half! 4 sandwiches to a pound of fish? I went to Tim's because I heard about there famous fish. I was disappointed with the atmosphere,quality of food and service. COD was the only fish available on the menu after trying to order walleye or catfish.Once dinner came out food was very bland no taste,no seasoning.Needless to say I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Like many others, I remember my Dad bringing that wonderful greasy fish home as a kid. I still love seafood, and since moving back to Canton this past year, I am always searching for a restaurant with good fish. My meal was disappointing; the waitress was rude, and by then, my appetite was gone. I did order some food to take home. The pieces were very small, but fish was nice and firm. Clam strips looked good and were larger than usual, but unfortunately too leathery. Maybe because they were thicker strips. Onion rings had good review from my husband. The two stars were for the courtesy of the Manager, Tim's son. He was polite and did in fact remove the rejected dinner from my bill.
