We learned about apples, orchards and this amazing local business. They sell "you pick" apples for , what I believe, is the lowest price around. They sell local products like sourdough breads, jams, pickles, cheeses as well as their own homemade baked goods. Their homemade apple fritters are delicious. There are also other vegetables grown here to buy. Their new restaurant is in a renovated barn on their property and even has a deck with a beautiful view of the orchard me The food was excellent and the service was great. They have all kinds of pumpkins (edible heirlooms and traditional orange in all shapes and sizes), plus gourds and minis, mums, corn stalks and hay bales, perfect for decorating (and GREAT prices, at $7 for a full-sized hay bale and $20 for 4 gorgeous heirloom pumpkins). Last year I bought 4 heirlooms and used them inside for my seasonal display and they lasted through winter, at which point I processed them all for soup! For families, they have games and play areas, a corn maze, a petting zoo, rides, and an apple blaster where you shoot apples at targets (more fun than it probably sounds!). The apple blaster is also perfect for a friendly competition between friends... Inside they have lots of fall themed decorations available for purchase, plus food that includes fresh apple cider donuts (available as singles, 6 packs and dozens) and local cider, coffee, hot cocoa, fresh popcorn, chili dogs and cookies. We ate a chili dog (good sized red hot with a nice meaty chili and red bean topping), pumpkin coffee, 6 donuts and popcorn while walking around picking our pumpkins, and were very pleased with the taste, portions and quality. When we arrived to the purchasing shed we already knew we had to purchase wrist bands for all three kids for the activities on the farm. No big deal. We had been talking about today all week, the kids were excited. We told the employee we needed three wristbands then the employee stated if I or my husband wanted to go past the sign/string that surrounded the whole activity area to watch my kids then I would have to purchase a wrist band along with my husband. I explained that wouldn't be necessary because neither of us would be using any of the activities they offer. I simply would keep an eye on the kids especially the 3 year old. He stated even to do that we needed wristbands. I told him we didn't need them and went through with the transaction of three wristbands. As I am standing watching my children behind the line I realize other moms and dads thought the same thing. Many parents within the "line" or past the sign where the activities were had not purchased the wristbands either. About five minutes go by and I see a different employee start checking for parent wristbands. And if he didn't see them wearing one he would hand them a wrist band and show them the card reader to pay. We were all shocked. How can you justify charging a parent that is just trying to keep their child safe. They were not using anything. Maybe I am overreacting but when groups have multiple children and purchase three plus wristbands at almost 16 dollars a piece adding another two bands for people that won't even be using the activities is wild. We truly just wanted to keep an eye on the kids that was it. Instead we watched from so far away we missed out on certain parts of the day. We hope they consider changing that soon. She was annoyed that we wanted to purchase a tree late in the day (we called to make sure it was OK to arrive at 4:30pm before we arrived). She made a comment about "the next time someone calls about coming in at 5pm I'm telling them no" right in front of us. We usually purchase items from the gift shop in addition to the tree but, after that encounter, we left without shopping (loss on their part as we normally spend $100-$200 in the gift shop).
