The day we came judging had been completed and we were able to see the prize winners. The food vendor selection was your typical fair findings. We enjoyed the birdland popcorn chicken bucket. Huge portion for $10 dollars. We mainly visited for a special fair tasting event: tastes of Wayne county which cost an additional $15 to enjoy. You receive a tasting cup and you could visit as many vendor tables as you like within the closed off area. We ended up purchasing some delicious locally grown popcorn and you could see many attendees leaving with vendor goods.

It was such a nice surprise and made my dad feel good. The bus shuttles from Sonnenberg Gardens were fantastic. The website claims they run every 30 minutes but basically they are running nonstop and we didn't have to wait either to or from the market. There were tons of food trucks. Potato- licious (something like that) had baked potatoes and sausages, hot cider, kettle corn, spiced nuts chocolates, donuts, a pasta food truck, grilled cheese, macaroni food truck, strudel that also had savory pastries (I wasn't a fan of their sausage pastry due to being extremely greasy), a truck with Philly cheese steaks that my parents were really impressed with, a kebab truck, a beer/wine tent and probably others that I'm forgetting. My husband and I ate at the potato truck. They had $5 zweigles hot dogs or sausages, hot cocoa, baked potatoes in a variety of ways: Buffalo chicken, thanksgiving with turkey & gravy, poutine, veggie & cheese...etc. there were picnic tables under a tent and restroom situation was a few portapotties and multiple trailers that had girls/guys facilities. The market consisted of 3 tents and had some great vendors. There was something for everyone. It was comfortable temperatures in the vendors tents because of heat getting pumped in. (With the picnic tables in the shade, it was pretty chilly there.) It was nice to see all of the decorations in Granger house. They were so nicely done and you could vote on your favorites or not and just walk through and enjoy them. We spent about 3 hours here including lunch and dessert. It was a nice morning/early afternoon!

The Festival of Trees runs from mid-November through mid-December at the mansion, and helps you imagine what it would be like to live during the grandeur that was Christmas-time at the Granger Homestead. Each room boasts numerous trees, each unique in their own right. Every tree is available for purchase through the silent auction. This is one of Granger's largest fundraisers, along with the Christkindl Market that happens in early November. During the 2015 Festival, one room hosted a tree that was made entirely out of books, while another was the skirt for cinderella's ball gown (personal favorite). The entire mansion is decorated for the season, and the dining room is set up for the Granger family to enjoy their holiday feast. There is a station where children can write letters to Santa, surrounded by the characters from Who-ville. The beautiful and grand setting is worth the $5 admission price for adults ($4 for seniors, $1 for kids over 5, 5 and under are free), and you may end up taking home a fully-dressed tree.

There was quite a variety of things to do including visiting the bridge that looks just like the one for a movie, with a real life saving a suicide attempt story to boot. We chatted with Bert, who was out writing tickets on cars and getting to know all the visitors. There were free horse drawn carriage rides, and free tastings of roasted chestnuts which I had never had before. The It's a Wonderful Life Museum is open and was packed as people checked out the information, pictures, and toys they had. Besides the many things to do the big appeal of this festival is just how much it feels like the real Bedford Falls. So many shops opened up their doors and offered free snacks and free hot chocolate bars to visitors and locals alike. Everyone was so friendly, from the local townspeople and vendors to the guests and visitors as well. To me, this encompasses the exact feel of the movie. There were some great food options, from Mrs. Martini's spaghetti dinner and trivia which we missed as it was on Friday night, to local restaurants bringing out tents and serving their best chilis, hotdogs and burgers, and tacos outside, there was something for everyone. The bars and restaurants were also fully staffed indoors if you needed a break from the cold. My husband and I really enjoyed our time in Bedford Falls, if you are looking for something fun and different to do on the 2nd weekend in December, make the trip out to Seneca Falls to feel the It's a Wonderful Life spirit!

I think that had a huge impact on the attendance. We did find a parking spot close to the festival but other people had to park way down the road past the bridge to park. The other thing that we noticed was that in the years past they offered little cups of free sauerkraut and we noticed that there weren't any signs stating you could even buy sauerkraut except for one place did did have it but it was hot and my fiance doesn't like hot sauerkraut she likes cold sauerkraut but they didn't have any of that. Also they had in the past cabbage bowling which was kind of fun especially for the kids I didn't see that either. We did spend a lot of money on the quarter game.. to help support the festival. We did purchase a couple of fried doughs also. Then we drove down the road to shortsville and ate at Warfield's and had a fantastic dinner. :-) because unfortunately Phelps hotel is closed..

The experience was nothing short of magical for my three year old daughter. This is an organized operation- from parking to providing a sled and saw to shaking, baling and tying the tree to our roof- everything was full service. We were in and out in less than 30 minutes which was great. The cost for a medium size tree is $55. Their hours as posted this year are 9-4 Saturday and Sunday. There is a shop with wreathes and a few no cost amenities- cider, 'reindeer food' and coloring books. There is a large variety of trees- from species to width and height they have a lot to choose from. As this farm is only 10 minutes from our home I expect we will come back year after year.

If I could give it 10 stars...I would! As a kid, my dad and I always went to this tiny place to get our tree. This was before Darlings existed. Well, ole boy who has that Christmas tree lot, was only open for TWO WEEKS!! Laaammmme! I missed him by 2 days. I flew in on the 12th, he was gone the 10th (eye roll). So, I had never cut down a tree...until this year. On Thanksgiving, I called my parents from Boise and told them that we were LONG overdue for a LIVE Christmas tree! Every year I'd come home, they'd have this fake ass tree...puke. Then, I came home a few years ago and it shrunk. It was the size of a Hanukah bush, haha! So I told them that this year, I'd buy the tree, set it up, decorate it, take it down and do all the clean up. The agreed faster than I ever expected lol. Made me happy they wanted a live tree again. It's been over 20 years!!! So when ole boy was closed, we tried a few other lots and then I came across Darlings and one other place. The other place was $25, any size. They didn't have the various types of trees that Darlings has tho. So my mom and I end up Darlings on Dec 16th. She wanted a smalllllll tree. I was like...why pay that $$ when I can get a bigger for the same price. No idea why they were anti-big Tree lol. So we sniped at each other for a second and left hahahaha! I've ALWAYS been huge on getting gigantic trees. This year, I didn't get that, because I respected that they didn't want a huge one. I went back to Darling's the following day so I could surprise my parents. Lemme say, my first visit, they were absolutely fantastic! Told us the prices right off, and everything they do regarding the trees i.e. cutting down, wrapping up, loading, etc. I went back on the 17th and again, was immediately greeted with the happiest people! I wish I knew his name, guy around 40 yrs old, super friendly and accommodating. I'm thinking he was the owner or one of them. I began walking around the property, looking for the perfect tree. It was SO hard not to get the 10 footer I wanted lol. I found a perfect 6ft one. Not too big, right? Perfect enough so my mom wouldn't stroke out lol. I was still worried tho lol. I found another employee, Jill. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL human being! She helped me out on the measure and pricing. $55 bucks. For me, that's not bad. Trees today are absolutely RIDICULOUSLY overpriced. So all the prices here were reasonable. Most expensive was $70, I think? Depending on size. Either way, they're up front with you as soon as u get there. If you don't know how pricing works...ASK. THEM. they are more than willing to help. Anyway, Jill got a guy to help me out. He actually cut it down for me, hahaha! Then I loaded it up on the sled and brought it back up. I was talking to Jill a lot. Funny lady. I loved her. Then told her I was off to get a tree stand. They sell them there! However, she offered me one of those old school ones, the green and red metal ones. I obviously took it! For me, that's a score! I LOVE old school stuff that brings back memories. It's practically brand new too. Doesn't look like it was ever used lol. I LOVE IT! Thanks, Jill! Aside from that, you're an awesome person and I was glad to meet you. They loaded the tree to the roof of my car and I was off. From beginning to end, this experience was the best!! I found my new tradition. I will always go back here and always refer people to them. Seriously, Yelpers, I left there with a huge smile on my face. Not one person was negative or "worn out from dealing with the public" Again, pricing is reasonable in a world where trees are WAY overpriced. I'll never understand places in NY and ID...who have Christmas trees growing everywhere...how these people charge what they do..the Tree lots. That's why Darling's is great. Even better if they stay at that pricing. Whole experience MAKES it Christmas. Like I said, there's not one bad thing I can say about this place.
